The facilities are clean and well-maintained. Gym is spacious and has all weightlifting essentials. My only concern is the amount of traffic the gym has everyday! I went on a Sunday afternoon for a quick workout and was immediately frustrated by the inavailability of gym equipment. Two squat racks for that big gym is unacceptable! Golds Gym should consider opening another location nearby to accommodate all that traffic.

My daughter signed up when she moved to TX. She moved to NC in February 2021. After multiple calls asking them to cancel they refused and kept charging my card. This month also added and additional $54 fee. After talking to many people and trying to get this resolved with my credit card I am finding this is a regular practice of this Gold Gym. They even contested their erroneous charges with my credit card. I absolutely will continue to get my money back that they continue to steal from my account and only can help warn others NOT TO SIGN UP!!!!They are crooked company!!

There is so much to do here, and a lot of machines that a great. It’s always packed especially during 9am-1pm and 5-9pm. I recommend coming here as soon as they open in the morning if you wanna be able to do everything you can.

Great gym. Just too many people. I’ve had a membership for a month and have yet to actually use any of the barbells on the benches or squat racks. I’ve gone mornings, mid day, late night and there is never any of the above equipment available. If you have time to sit around for an hour or two until available you might be able to get a workout in

This gold’s gym is just too small for the crowd that is constantly there. Has every thing you need but you’re most likely either have to wait a while to get a rack/bench/machine or find a spot where it’s not crowed to do anything. It’s probably time to relocate to a bigger building since the San Marcos population continues to grow.

They need to work on their customer service skills. Imo the people that work at this golds in particular have a negative, strict, and person-last kind of attitude. I don’t know if that’s from the top down or what. But, if I ask you about a day pass and you say it’s $16 & I come back to clearly show you a free day pass on my phone you should have no resistance to that. As someone who lives in the area, who’s open to getting a membership, and I get told no because I used work at the Golds in New Braunfels as a FDA & PT, it’s embarrassing.

Awesome gym. Huge shout out to Andrew Evo and Sienna.They took to time to help me out with some account issues. Great attitudes!Jacob, the night before was just on his phone and trying to send me away to some snack fitness or whatever, that lets you train for $2. Very unwelcoming, as if he wanted me to leave so he could keep using his phone.Just fix jacobs phone issues and customer service and other than that its a 5 star gym.

I mainly go to Golds for the classes. Golds Fit and Zumba are great. All of the instructors I have worked with have been great. I have some prior injuries that I have to work around and they have always been willing to find alternative exercises for me to do. Zumba is a challenging cardio workout but is also a lot of fun. It makes the time go faster. I am just now getting back to the grind after a year away due to covid and so far so good.

Tried to join Golds Gym and they charged me twice for initial payment. I notified their cancellation email address as I obviously cannot trust them w my bank info. Received generic email message saying theyd get back to me. Havent heard from them, of course. I will have to make a special trip to the gym I NEVER went to to be sure my 5 minute membership is cancelled as I have read several other reviews saying they wont cancel no matter how many times you ask them.THEY SUCK!

Worst subordinate management team Ive ever witnessed. Matt is an absolute disaster and possesses absolutely no personnel or managerial skills. I recommend you take up a collection to buy him a personality. A detriment in every regard to the facility. Perhaps janitorial duties should be in his future......This is not just based upon my observations, but a consensus of a number of other patrons. He is the topic and genesis of a great deal of institutional criticism.

The people who work there have terrible customer service always on their phones or in the back office chatting. I have been a golds gym member for 4 years and have never had anything told to me. Jeremy the manager stares at people constantly while working out and never stops staring at me during my workout making me feel uncomfortable. He harassed me for letting go of the cable claiming I was slamming weights when I was simply doing a heavy drop set and couldn’t extend all the way up. Don’t sign up here the manager is a creep

Gym is starting to show a little wear and tear, probably because funding for gyms is way down after covid. Speaking of, employees either wont or arent allowed to (because of corporate policy) enforce mask wearing. They will periodically announce it on the intercom and tell people when they come in, but many people take it off once they pass the front desk. Im a little disappointed that there isnt a bigger push to back the science behind mask wearing at the gym. However, to be clear, the majority of people responsibility wear a mask including the staff. Otherwise the gym is great! Just wash your hands :)

Visited this Golds while staying with my Mother. Looks like a newer gym. Everything is clean and in working order. All the machines look new.The fitness studio has hard hardwood floors. Kinda hurt my knees during class. Theyre classes on Sunday Morning were really small. 3-4 people. The instructor did a good job.The front desk staff was nice and welcoming.

Golds gym has the most under trained staff and managers in the franchise business. If you are looking to join up Id be remiss if I didnt tell you that if you ever want to CANCEL your membership itll be a nightmare. I tried in September and apparently they lost my paperwork. There is video proof of me going in and doing the paperwork but the manager is to lazy to go screen through the content. Instead they charge me for October and November. Ive disputed the charges and won the case yet they still say I owe hundreds of dollars for December too EVEN AFTER I HAVE GOTTEN A CANCELLATION CONFIRMATION EMAIL FOR NOVEMBER. I will be coming after you Golds Gym with legal force you are violating your own policies and legal action will be taken.

I need to update my review on the San Marcos location. While I did have some issues with my membership add ons....The next day Ian Pena personally called me and looked into it further. I want to give him a big Thank you for following up and going the extra mile. I didnt expect a follow up call or it to be resolved that fast. I just figured I would have to just wait out the issue.While I have learned from this issue I will be waiting 24 hours for a problem to be resolved before posting a negative review right off the back. Thank you again Ian Pena for all your help and understanding.

This gym does not have enough major equipment for the number of members who go here. There arent enough bench presses, squat racks, and other major machines to support the large number of members who attend this gym. Oftentimes, you have to wait for over an hour to use the equipment.

Love it here! But what made me really type this review is the cleanliness. I go back and forth from Dallas all the time and I’ve visited every single location in Dallas and I don’t like any of them because they just don’t compare to the cleanliness San Marcos location has. The custodians are super nice and constantly cleaning. At other locations I’ve visited sometimes they’re nowhere to be found, thank you golds SM for always being my number one location!

Younger gentleman at front desk always acts like he doesnt want to be there. Get very negative vibes from him every time I enter the gym. Will be canceling my membership.Update 7/20/20 : Went in person to cancel my month to month/ no contract membership (you cannot do this on the phone or online) and the girl at the front desk said their cancellation portal isnt working today and to try again tomorrow. She also mentioned that I would be charged an annual fee because there is a 60 day window when you cancel. Still trying to figure out in what way this is a month to month/ no contract membership. The other reviews about Golds San Marcos making it difficult to cancel your membership are accurate.

I know gym contracts are a pain if you want to cancel early or dont want to go for a year...I get it. I would love to continue to workout, continue payments. Im honestly not the type of person to cancel early. Well under different circumstances I really wish Golds Gym was better about understanding the customers during COVID-19.My daughter will be born next week, so I asked if theres anything they can do to help, because Im trying to self quarantine for 2 weeks. Ill be brief here and out, a guy named OZ wasnt helpful at all. Also kinda rude. Even if I would go to the gym not everything is available, so if anythingI think all customers should have reduced payments. I would not recommend Golds Gym, not sure if its the same everywhere but the one in San Marcos isnt great.

I just recently joined along with my husband. I like the body scan they give, you when you first start. They tell you that every 3 months you can have another one for free, just to check and see what our progress is.The people there are very helpful and I love their equipment, especially the treadmill that we can set at OUR speed. It also has a feature I especially like. There is an emergency stop button, in my husband starts to get tired. I would recommend this Gym to anyone!

I came in at the begining of the pandemic to cancel my membership due to covid and signed a piece of paper as acknowledgement for my cancellation. Apparently my account was still being automatically drafted for the next 7 months, mind you I was not working out at Golds during that time. It was my fault for not checking my account but when I went in today to cancel again, they could not wave any of the charges. I wished that Golds would have given proof of cancellation the first time in the form of a receipt. I took a picture of my cancellation form this time just in case any other charges were drafted.

They made me go in to a location to cancel, even though I provided proof of address change and the closest location was 2 hours away. (Seems unethical to risk the safety of their members and staff by requiring in-person cancellation during a pandemic.) Then they still charged me for another month after canceling.

My experience at Golds Gym has been very positive except for the financial aspect. The gym is very clean, members and staff are very friendly. I was concerned about the gym being over crowded however even during peak times equipment is readily available. The class instructors are wonderful, though I was disappointed with the cycle class. It cost extra on top of my membership but did not justify the cost. The instructor was great for those who are advanced. Beginners are not monitored which I find quite dangerous. I am a certified group exercise and senior fitness instructor therefor very aware of the necessity of monitoring new comers to any type of class.I would definitely recommend the San Marcos Golds Gym, it’s a positive experience for all ages!!

Open up regular hours! What does closing the gym early have to do with preventing covid? I didnt sign up for a gym that closes at 9:00 pm. All youre doing is ripping off your existing members. The overall cost and experience in fitness are of high-quality, friendliness, speed of service, and accuracy. I feel the burn in my daily workouts, especially doing 25 sets of 20 leg presses at 200lbs.; I love the hospitality that Chris Lein and his staff provide every time I walk through those front doors. My legs are so sore right now, its incredible.

Ive been a member for about a month now and Ive really enjoyed the staff and equipment offered. I signed up for the Enhanced membership but have yet to find myself in a class yet.. (still thinking about keeping it or downgrading)Overall clean and full of a variety of people! More college kids than anything but I have had my share of experiences with seeing even the elderly come workout.My only tip for now is that you definitely want to come during the early morning or noon .. I came around 6-7pm once and it was crazy busy. I couldnt really focus on my workout and that was a bummer. Not to mention parking is atrocious! But you cant fix that I suppose.I am enjoying my time so far and I hope you do too!My only complaint? Some girl hovered over me while I used a machine, waiting for me to finish, without even uttering a word.Anyone who does this, should really learn about personal space and finding an alternative way to work that muscle! 🙂

I was hoping to sign up and workout at the San Marcos location, and got a 3 day pass. I live in a city right next to San Marcos and is about 15 mins away. They refused to let me use the online pass to simply try out the gym because my city had a golds. It makes no sense considering if you get a membership you can use it at any location in Texas. When I asked to see the manager he wouldn’t even come out of his office even though clearly nothing was going on the and gym was super slow. I probably would have signed up for a membership after my workout too. Pretty bad customer experience.

The five stars I am giving is for Adrian! I try to go to his body pump classes as much as possible, because the work out is so good! He is always pumped/positive about class & has this intense energy that is contagious! I just wished he would have more classes in the evening around 6:30. If you want an intense workout go to Adrian, you will not be disappointed!

I visited almost every Gold’s gym around US, this gym is my favorite, super clean, Great CLASSES coaches are very knowledgeable especially DIANE Zane REACHEL (pump class badass) machines are very good not old, pool great, sauna great, one of the guy MANAGER (Not sure name) is absolutely amazing welcome everyone, always with smile !!!! Comparing to other Golds in Austin (this are sucks) trust me you will feel like HOME in this gym ! Great job 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

I was a member of golds for over 7 years. Cancelled because I thought I might be moving. Long story short, I didn’t but membership cancelled on its own anyway. I called the San Marcos location and spoke with OZ. Informed him that I would come by and re-sign up. When I got there I ran into two younger ladies at the front desk who informed me he would be 15 to 20 min and no one else is available. Like most normal adults I don’t have all day to wait around and asked if I could work out and see him when I’m done to sign up. She says NO I’d need a days pass and that was that. Topping it if she let me and OZs commissions walk right out the door with no other options. I’ve been in customer service my whole life and if you are looking for good service at Golds, in general it’s hard to find.

The hours give you guaranteed access, the quantity of equipment means you dont have to wait on anyone, and the features of every Golds Gym makes you wanna grab your tennis shoes, workout clothes, and your sweat rag! You will get ripped off! If you ever decide to cancel your membership, they will continue to bill you for two months. Its their policy. We agreed to it. But when my wife went in to cancel our memberships (because we were trying to buy a house and needed to clean up our finances) she signed a blank cancellation form. She asked if we needed to do something with my membership, and she was told that our accounts were linked so she was done. We werent done. After her membership was cancelled and she stopped getting billed we realized that we were still getting billed for my account. I spoke with 3 people. One agreed to cancel the account and refund me for the draft that had occurred. She must have changed her mind because the confirmation email I received said that my account had been cancelled and would continue to be billed for two months! I went back to the gym to talk to the same person and she said that it is just their policy and there is nothing she can do. I asked for the corporate phone number. Guess what! They dont seem to have a corporate phone number. The number I found online directed me to the New Braunfels location. I was willing to overlook the bad customer service and the flies in the showers, but I do not like being lied to and stolen from.

Some co-workers and I went in to redeem our one day pass to see what equipment their facilities offered, but was denied due to being residents of other Texas cities. My co-workers and I were (We are from Dallas, El Paso, and San Antonio) told by staff per management that we aren’t eligible for our passes due to us not likely buying a membership anyways. This was verbatim from front desk staff and my suggestion to your company as a whole is for more extensive training on hospitality, business verbiage, and possibly just some basic customer service. Either that or extensive staff replacement, we weren’t even offered a tour through the facilities. My co-workers and I were going to be in town for two weeks due to work and were contemplating purchasing a week pass, but was appalled to say the least with our experience. Their lack of customer service skills from staff and management is deplorable.

I was new to sign up so they input all my information. Lady then asks me if i want to use the card that is on file!?I told her I had not given my card to anyone before. So she takes my credit card info down. I was charged and we went about our way.The next month they say payment issue when i walked in. They ran the mystery card they had on file resulting in an extra $20 late fee. I told the staff member that card was supposed to be deleted and he saw my card on file, so he ran it. I was not told about the fee until i saw my statement. I called Golds multiple times asking questions to make sure that mystery card was removed....nobody ever called me back. I requested someone help me when i arrived at the gym and was told they were in a meeting. Later i got someone to finally help me. He talked to corporate and got everything squared away.This month when I went in I was told I missed a payment from April....I just dont get how they can be so disorganized. MY CARD IS ON FILE....i did my part as a customer. Do your part as the business.Overall they have caused me a lot of headaches. I do enjoy the cardio cinema....however they usually have double subtitles on. Movie selections arent the best. Several stupid superhero movies...last time they were showing Ant Man....I also fear based on reviews/personal experience they will take advantage of my credit card by not terminating charges when i cancel my membership.

Wow! Golds gym in San Marcos is the best golds gym Ive ever been to. Very clean. Today I worked out for 3 hours and Im in love. The premium membership that cost $100 seems pricey but if you actually use the gym. Those gold fit and cycle fit are exactly what you need to feel alive again.Thanks you Wasldo for helping me with my membership. It was quick easy and the man showed me nothing but respect and kindness. I would recommend asking for Wasldo if youre planning on getting membership. $100 a month is nothing when you have the support of the trainers there.

I normally dont write reviews but I am compelled to do it for this place. Like other reviews, I was excited to learn of Golds Gym coming to San Marcos since I started my membership in Austin, TX and was patronizing that location because it was conveniently located to my office. I switched to San Marcos because I live there. When this location first opened, things were great...brand new everything! Now that the gym is almost 2 years old, I find myself frustrated with the lack of attention to maintenance and cleanliness. Toilets, urinals, faucets, or something is always broken and remains broken for an unreasonable amount of time. Locker rooms are filthy and it doesnt appear that floors are ever mopped or showers sprayed down. Paper towel and soap dispensers are always empty. And although I appreciate the friendly front desk staff, the general manager is rude and oblivious to the proper management of the gym. He seems to be more concerned about working out than patrolling the gym to make sure the business is being minded. I may have to reconsider my ongoing membership and switch back to my old local gym which is smaller but at least, its clean and tidy, and the management team is much more friendly.This is an update to my previous review. Thank you for listening to our feedback and taking action on my concerns. Kudos to Tom! He is a respectable and diligent gentleman. He is doing a fantastic job keeping the gym tidy and the mens locker rooms clean! He never stops! During his watch, everything appears to be in order. So thank you and Tom for the good job youre doing now in bringing some pride back to this gym.

Front staff is VERY rude, no customer service assistance WHATSOEVER. Trying to downgrade a membership and they sent me to sit in the waiting area. Took about 20 minutes & still no help received while they had plenty of associates in the front. Did not receive help until I went to ask for it AGAIN. Gym is great, customer service from the associates AND the manager have much room for improvement. If you need anything done, you need to nag them until you yourself get it done. Downgrading my membership took about 45 minutes.

As a place to workout, this Golds is great. The people that lift here are nice, cleaning staff has the place looking great, and equipment is good quality.Sadly, the front desk staff is rude, condescending, and/or incompetent. Trying to do anything but pay your membership or purchase some merch in store is going to be a frustrating processes for you. The managers are even worse. Just know if you want to cancel your membership, the managers here will make it difficult. It took me several attempts at going in to cancel, the managers will straight up ignore youGolds gym as a business in general is sketch. I was always so nervous to start working out, gyms made me insecure. I felt like I would be the fat girl surrounded by super fit people, who would laugh at me.....I overcame that fear the day I joined Golds, and immediately the staff made me feel right at home!!! People all shapes and sizes choose Golds. The Vibe at this gym makes me feel comfortableI. I get random high fives from other gym members, and sometimes the staff as well. The classes offered are GREAT! They modify all the exercises so even very out of shape people like myself will still get a good workout without too much strain. I appreciate that the most!! The gym is clean, the sauna is always hot, and the staff is always friendly. Good place to be.

Plan for lots of time to find parking. I circled the lot for 10 minutes for a Thursday night class and ended up walking quite a ways to make it in time for the class due to parking.

They randomly and without warning made my payment go from $31/mo to $53/mo. Its the scam they run, just like most other gyms. Also when it comes time to cancel they make it as hard as it can possibly be.

It’s a glorified la fitness for more cost. The gym wasn’t bad overall staff was so so. It was early on a Sunday morning empty was able to get in and get out with no wait for equip or machines.

Great gym, everything I need and want for my personal goals, staff is friendly and I’m greeted 9 times out of 10 every time I walk in. My only complaint is the members. How hard is it to place dumbbells back where they need to be? And who in their right mind would think it’s okay to shave at your local gym? I mean come on now. Besides that I love the gym, been going 3 months and couldn’t be happier.

I’ve been with the Golds in San Marcos for 2 years and while the front desk is mostly friendly, the cleanliness still remains to be improved. I’ve contacted staff, manager, and district/regional managers multiple times including pictures of empty towel dispensers, trashy toilet stalls, overflowing trash bins, dirty sinks, empty soap dispensers, etc. While the management team always responds promptly with an apology and promise to change, the gym is clean for a couple of days then back to the ole same o same o. I can’t speak for later in the day but at 5:15/5:30AM these are the conditions one should expect. I’m assuming that the night crew rarely makes sure the place is in pristine condition at closing time. The janitor who’s only there Monday - Thursday does a great job but it’s obvious he can’t catch up with all that needs to be done until a couple hours after he arrives. If you’re coming in at 8:00, M-TH you should be okay, but early mornings don’t expect much in the way of a clean gym. I only stay because many of my buddies workout in the AMs and the location is convenient.

Nothing special,just a place to workout. Pools nice,showers,sauna,lockers. unnecessary treadmill cinema room.too many treadmills in the first place.massive area 4 more free weights would have been better.

Staff has quite an attitude. ZERO professionalism. I’m canceling because I’m tired of dealing with bs from the staff the moment I walk in the door. Also don’t lose that little 10¢ piece of plastic they scan, because it’s $10 to get a new one; what a rip off. Most people come to the gym to blow off steam, the last thing I need is for the front desk employee to piss me off upon entering everytime and give me an attitude. She must be mad to be 30 years old making 10 an hour. Peace out golds

Our experience with Golds has been excellent. The San Marcos location is fairly knew and the equipment is it nice condition overall. The staff is friendly and I never found the gym to be overly grunty or intimidating. Mostly college kids or recent grads workout here. It can get busy during peak times making some of the more popular equipment, like the squat rack of which there are only 2.5 - one does double duty for deadlifts etc, difficult to get on. We were grandfathered in for the childcare so it was a great deal for us. Thanks to people abusing it, its become quite expensive to bring your kids if youre a newer member. My wife enjoyed the classes and we generally liked the staff. Havent used the pool.

My membership is through Silver Slippers, Id signed up through my health plan in Harlingen. Found myself here in San Marcos on the weekends. The front desk help me locate my membership in Harlingen and gave me a 14-day guest pass which I have enjoyed two or three times. They were so nice the first day I misplaced my keys they got a lady from housekeeping to help me retrace my steps, thank you so much what a nice place I enjoyed the movie Walk where they have the stationary bikes in a big movie screen.

Literally the worst gym I’ve ever stepped into. Management consists of a bunch of adult children and they can never keep their story straight on anything. Very unprofessional and it’s always dirty no matter the time you go in. If you ever need help with anything with your account good luck.

The gym is great and Ive really enjoyed the classes and my work with my trainer Seth but I can only get in exercising at certain times and I usually have my daughter with me so I signed up for the Kids Club for her. Every time except for once or twice Ive brought her in there she turns on the waterworks and after 10 minutes they call me in there which only makes it worse because she sees me and doesnt want me to leave so I have to cut my workout short. Why am I paying for childcare when you arent even trying to calm her down and then I am wasting my time and money Ive paid for training and my membership and coming down here to not get what I paid for at all. I dont get a workout, I dont get a training session and I dont get childcare. All Im asking is for 30 minutes a day to myself to exercise and they cant even handle that and they probably wont let me out of my contract and Ill have to be paying for something Im not using for a year not to mention another month and a half of training that Im locked into. Ive had it with thus gym!
