Honestly this is more a review of Jesse than anything else, but as someone who has climbed at a lot of gyms over the years it’s rare that you have a setter that their care and thoughtfulness is seen in almost every route they set. Jesse’s sport routes are so incredibly well thought-out and every move feels like it is set with intention and not just a collection of aesthetic holds together. mesa rim, cherish jesse! setters with this much care and talent don’t come around all the time
Im one of the transplants from the wall climbing gym in North county and I went for a session today at Mesa North City and I can say that I really appreciate the facility. I like how clean it is I like how new it is and I definitely like that it was purpose built for what it was supposed to be. A fantastic climbing gym. I picked up a punch card so Ill definitely be visiting again.
Came here for my first time with my friends whos a more seasoned climber, I was given a super hands on an informative course on equipment and belay technique by the instructor Omar who was very patient and friendly and then got to go climb a huge wall for my 1st time! The feeling of elation I had upon completion absolutely made my week! I will be back for more! :D
The staff is above and beyond friendly. Everyone seems to love their job. The facility is kept extremely clean. I being my 4 and 6 year old kids and they love it. This is so much better than the trampoline park.
This place has an awesome setup, in my opinion the best in San Diego. There seems to be more emphasis on bouldering but still plenty of top toping and lead climbing routes. Very fun routes on par with Mesa Rims other locations. Nice staff, clean facility, and a laid back atmosphere.
Great bouldering section! Wide open and lots of space. Super clean, great staff members too! The walls are well set and feel about on par with Mission Valley setting.
AMAZING facility, knowledgeable and professional staff. Beginners: dont be intimidated by the towering climbing courses. My teenage boys took right to the climbing walls upstairs with NO prior training or experience.
I’m a huge Mesa Rim fan and have been a member for several years, but the setting (or lack of it) is not up to par compared to the other locations. I really enjoyed coming to this location when it first opened, but it’s hard not to grow tired of the same boulder problems and routes when the majority of the climbs have been up since they opened last year. The facility itself is grand, but new sets are few and far between. I’d love to give this place five stars and they’d definitely deserve it if they could just get a grip on resetting.
Great facilities. Weight room has a good variety. New routes added constantly. Old routes left up for a decent amount of time to problem solve and master. Yoga is still ramping up from the stay at home order, but experiences have been great.
Wow friends this gym is going to be hoppin once CSUSM is open again! Right next to the campus and with common house next door, this location is great for North County climbers and yogis! All bouldering upstairs, extra tall rope walls, yoga and fitness area with separate entrance. At 10% capacity and with sanitizer and signs about distancing and handwashing all over the place, Mesa has been soooo safe that I feel good going even with my 2 year old and being a high risk individual.
I liked this gym and would like to rate it 4.5 stars, but Ill give it a 5 because my comments are mainly personal preference. The gym was clean and impressive, probably the nicest climbing facility I have ever seen. But I wasnt a huge fan of the vibe. I enjoyed the bouldering routes and area much more than the top rope, but the mats are HARD and I was fairly scared of falling. Top roping routes were a confusing mix of ratings (from some 5.6s being more difficult than some of the 5.10s), and it was unfortunate that a large part of the top roping wall was lead climbing only. Looks like if you climb here, you never get to practice overhangs while top roping unless you lead climb. There are also no autobelays (other than the speed climbing route, which was padlocked when I visited), which is unfortunate that such a new gym would not have any autobelay options. I think if you are a very serious climber, this is a fantastic gym. Personally I would rather go somewhere more practical/with a different vibe. Staff was really nice at this gym though!
In one word, FRESH! From the open air bay windows in the workout and climbing areas to the grit on the holds, everything feels fresh. I like all of the intricate, well-conceived and crafted design elements of this modern climbing facility. The layout and flow of the building is fun and open. Definitely looking forward to working this location into my Mesa Rim routine. And the neighbors aren’t bad either.
Great, new clean facility. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The climbing walls are new and well set. Fitness area has everything you could need. Large yoga studio with great instructors.
Beautiful facility...legit top of the line...setting was fun...but the general layout and setup of the gym...top notch all the way
Amazing. All brand new, many routes, very tall, fancy bouldering area. Also great location near San Marcos University, lots of restaurants, cafes.
Love the new north county location. Can’t wait for them to open the sauna
My second home. Love love love this place. Open and airy. Friendly staff, positive energy.
Great Rock climbing walls here
Best climbing gyms in San Diego. The North County location seems to have less lead/top rope climbs than the Mira Mesa and Mission Valley locations, though Ive not counted. They definitely have more bouldering than the other locations.
Nice new facility.
Brand new facility is great. Restaurants very close by for afterward eats.
Love it here
Great boulders
Love this gym!!!
