I enjoy training here. The instructors are great and the atmosphere is welcoming to new people. Higher belts have been very helpful and patient with me while rolling. Highly Recommended.
The instructors are patient and knowledgeable. The other students are very welcoming. This is a great place to train, for beginners or experienced people alike.
Experienced instructors focused on providing quality training for children and adults. The academy has a very respectful atmosphere. My family and I really enjoy rolling here as well as the Santa Clara site.
I started training here about 7 years ago as a transplanted blue belt. I was welcomed in with hospitality by both the instructors and students. Previously, I had trained at 6 different gyms across CA and I can say that overall, RGJJ is one of the best.Head instructor Justin aka Machine is incredibly knowledgeable, observant and patient. He helps you understand and grow as a practitioner without showing favoritism. Additionally, upper belts help bring along the lower belts. Theres a strong sense of community in this gym, with little ego. Its a great place to train whether youre a serious competitor, or just want a great workout.
Great team, friendly people around and professional classes. Alway happy to come to this place. Thanks!
I have trained at the Ralph Gracie academy in the peninsula and South Bay for nearly five years. I started as a noob white belt and am now a purple belt. The instructors, and fellow students have provided a challenging, safe, and welcoming environment to grow into the practice of Jiu-Jitsu. The journey is not easy, but is very rewarding. The instructors at the academy include head instructor, Justin Machine Holder, Dorian D Cartwright, and Darren Chef Ogasawara. The standard of instruction is high with emphasis on solid and consistent fundamentals, sustainable practice, self-defense, and practical execution. The community at the academy are welcoming and hard working, which are essential to learning and getting better. If you are a competitor, hobbyist, have fitness goals, or want a more interesting experience than the gym check out our two locations in San Jose and Santa Clara.
From the moment I walked in the door the first time, the instructors were enthusiastic, professional, and welcoming. The last year and a half I feel like I gained a second home and family. Cant say enough good things about the instructors, students, and establishment!
Awesome local gym. If your kid is into any kind of martial art, this is the place to go! Great chill environment, great instructors, tons of classes.
The environment at Ralph Gracie Jiu Jitsu has been very welcoming,( no gymtimadation ) just Men and Women who seem to love what they do and are happy to share there experiences.
My boys have been going to RGSJ for about a year now, and the instructors and community there have really helped my boys with their self confidence. They have a sense of belonging along with learning that the disciplines they are taught are not just for the academy but also for whatever they encounter in life. My 6 year old has learned to focus better in school, and has gained so much self discipline since he has started. The coaches show and practice what it means to not only be physically strong, but also mentally strong. It is nice to see that this is not only a family friendly environment, but also the care the coaches bring really emphasize how much they want their students to be well rounded individuals.
Ralph Gracie Jim Jitsu is a great school with some really talented, hard working people. The gym is very clean and inviting. I was having a hard time finding a place that fit after moving here from Chicago. I called and was invited to drop in and check out a class for free, so I stopped by in one evening and loved it. Everyone is very accomodating to your skill level. The school has great instructors and makes sure to not make you feel out of place or intimidated when you first start out.A couple of months before COVID I decided to enroll my 10 year old daughter. The classes has already taught her flexibility, control, discipline and respect along with the fundamentals of jiu-jitsu She is super excited and looking forward to go to class and the best part learning how to protect herself. We are both patient looking forward to getting back in the gym.
I’ve been at Ralph Gracie for over a year now. Due to Covid I’ve had to take many months off but can’t wait to go back. I began my jiu jitsu journey as a casual practitioner and slowly gained respect for the sport. Ralph Gracie SJ has a staff that makes you feel welcomed no matter what kind of practitioner you are. The staff is highly knowledgeable and patient. I would recommend Ralph Gracie SJ to anyone who wishes to dabble in the art of jiu jitsu whether it’s for fitness, competition, or overall well being. This is the place to be.
The instruction here is great, everyone is friendly and encouraging.
Great experience. I signed my 7 year old son up for a free trial and he loved it. I signed him up for a membership right after. Awesome friendly instructors make you really enjoy your time there.
My son (8) joined about 2 months ago. The teachers are really great with kids. They are patient with kids, but try to instill some discipline as well.My sons confidence has gone up, and he looks forward to his 2 visits a week, to the dojo.
Really work well with kids of all ages! My grandchildren, a male 8 years old and a female 6 years old are learning so many self defense skills as well as learning discipline and how to focus in general. Ive watched the instructors be patient with all the children no matter what their age or learning level. Such a benefit for the kids and their parents too!
This school is comprised of people from every age group, race, religion, and profession. The class is evenly distributed with experienced practitioners and beginners. Will Dias is a third degree black belt under Ralph Gracie and he welcomes everyone with open arms. The environment is very supportive and there are no words to describe the joy of being surrounded by such dedicated and talented people. There is a strong family atmosphere and I am very thankful to have found this place. It is my home away from home.
I have trained here since 2005 and cant say enough good things about the academy or the people there. The head instructor, William Diaz, is a very caring and incredible teacher. You will get fantastic instructions from a highly skilled and respected black belt instructor. He keeps the place safe and upbeat. The students are friendly and humble. There are no egos here and everyone helps each other to improve. The academy is like a family. Whether you live in the Mountain View area or just visiting, come down and check this place out for yourself. You wont be disappointed!
Very nice academy with great infrastructure and instruction. Justin has excellent teaching methodology that can make you understand and practice all positions showed in class. The students are a very welcoming group as well!
I love this place! Best instructors, plus dedicated classes for the kids to keep them busy all summer. A-1 skills/training by far.
Came here to get more serious about training and learning Jiu Jitsu and I wish I came here awhile ago! Great instruction and atmosphere, everyone wants to help each other in one way or another with Jiu Jitsu!
Great place to train, I came in from London and found the instruction to be clear yet detailed, the students are friendly and helpful and the place itself looks fantastic. Justin, one of the coaches, was extremely welcoming and his coaching was awesome. I Couldnt recommend this place more highly.
Excellent gym. Instructors are all top-notch, Justin, Dorian, Darren, DeShaun, Michael, etc. Every aspect of well-rounded Jiu Jitsu training is taken seriously and managed well across the gym leadership, from warm-ups, to drills, to technique, to positional sparring, to full rolling. Couldnt be happier with the approach and the depth and breadth of skill across the ranks, especially the upper belts. One thing Ive particularly paid attention to and was not disappointed was how situationally aware and concerned the upper belts are with safety and injury over time. Every class, every session at least one (usually many) of the upper belts will inquire if you are ok and take great care in your personal level of physical soreness or pain. This is really great because while these things are inevitable in a contact sport, the leadership at this gym are extremely situationally aware of their students physical state and manage your session(s) so that you stay safe and can recover and continue to train. Top notch group, completely trust them with my wellbeing. The ONLY downside to this gym sometimes can be space -- a healthy and successful culture makes the gym tight sometimes due to the number of people that attend. Cant wait until they expand. ;) I would highly recommend to anyone (with the right attitude) to come in for a try-before-you-commit session.
My BJJ home for 15 years. I stopped pumping iron and running in treadmills because BJJ is addicting. The guys are all long time members that have become friends. Instruction is traditional and straight from the originators of the martial art.
Master Will Diaz threatened to break my arm! The instructor is very experienced and the class is great - but I knew Im not coming back the moment that I made a mistake and Will strongly pulled me off the mat, threw me in the side room and screamed at me that hes going to break my arm if I do this again (this is not a threat, this is reality he said and then used some very strong language that you cant quote in a review). He wouldnt even let me apologize to the person I was working with.I feel that a martial arts master should always make responsible use of his force and this feels like a gross violation of this code of conduct.Stay away, better safe than sorry.
Trained out here during my trip to CA for work from London. Excellent bunch of guys and very welcoming. Will defo train again with these guys during my travels.
I live in Washington state and this is the third time ive been here to train and roll with professor Justin Holder and the crew. From the start professor Justin welcomed me and he helped me with my last couple training sessions before the Seattle international ibjjf open. Great fundamentals and the fine finish details make such a big difference. I was glad to get to the chance to meet and roll with John,Dave,Jordan, Deshawn, Jeremiah and Connor. Thanks and I cant wait to come back.
I travel a lot, and have been to many BJJ gyms (good and bad), and consider myself fortunate to have found a home here. They are a friendly, and helpful bunch. The head instructor Justin ‘Machine’ Holder has been training under Ralph Gracie since time eternal, and has done a fantastic job of instilling in us the fundamentals of Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while still addressing the newer generations of ‘the game’.
Best academy in Bay Area.I recommend.🏆🏆👊👊🏆🏆
