Felt like a safe way to see the tourist destinations. However, even with the 2 day pass, if you get off to explore, theres just not enough time to see everything due to extended wait times to get back on a bus. At times it was faster to forego the bus and take a lyft. We encountered 4 tour guides providing live commentary out of about 9 trips, the first of which was the morning of 8/26 around 10:30 and did not follow a PC script and was screaming into the microphone multiple times while going through a tunnel. The other 3 gentlemen providing the live commentary were wonderful and shared many great facts. We took a trolley to Sausalito over The Golden Gate Bridge and also around the park loop(the green trolley) and found both of those drivers provided live commentary and were knowledgeable and personable people-was quite pleased with both and they were a highlight of the tours.

So regretting booking with this guy/company... If this werent the last minute booking to Muir Woods, I would have just walked off at the ticket counter...Thought I have checked there is a cafe at Muir Woods from the website, I asked if there is a cafe and he said No. Looking at the return bus schedule at 4:30 pm they offered (trip started at 10 am), I asked that question again, the he said you are in the woods and wont be any food, and treated me like an alien...Even worst, the wrong scheduling info was given. He circled the weekend ferry schedule and actually the ferry was running at weekday schedule (it was a Friday). My family ended up wasting 2 hours waiting at the dock.I can tell you there is a cafe at Muir Woods. First time I was given a wrong info at the ticket booth, how professional he is. Thanks very much Paul!!! Now I really appreciate my prior tour experience.

First: Never, Never use this type of bus with advertizing in both sides, you can’t take pictures if you go in the first floor, the driver don’t let you hear the info of each point of interest, talking to much using the PA system with a Hey Baby, Hey Baby .,,Bad experience for my wife and my mother that can’t go to the second floor because they have a disability. Check before you select the bus and want to stay in the first floor. You can’t take pictures because of the advertizing mesh that covers the bus windows.Second: If you buy your ticket online you will need to go to offices to redeem your voucher because they can’t do it at the bus. First you need to go to an office some distance from the boarding site to get another voucher then you need to go to other building office in front of the bus parking to get finally your tickets to board the bus .Wao you need to be prepare for that. I don’t know why they not use just the office in front of the bus boarding site for the new vouchers and tickets .

Do not even consider taking this tour, its bad generally but holiday period dont imagine you can get a seat on a bus without first committing a large portion of your life and sanity to standing in a hot queue.Severe delays on the two main lines, red line cancelled over the busiest weekend and no extra buses added.Spent most of my time in San Francisco standing next to stop signs, which is not the ideal place to see the city. Decided to ask for a partial refund and was refused outright. The process of tedious and unnecessary, asked to email the manager who was not taking any calls. Why?Only managed to catch half of one route in 3 days. The commentary was good and the driver did not crash into anything so they seem more competent than the management. If you want to see all the delightful stop signs for hours at a time this is the tour for you!

There was no communication that the City Sightseeing had fused with the Big Bus company, so we spent almost an hour looking for a bus that didnt existed. When we finally we entered the buses, they were old, hot and super full... These guys are milking the cow and provide no comfort. The employees were really friendly, but it didnt compensate the $100 dollars for a few rides. Driving my rented car would have costed the same but a lot more comfortable.

I was very confused as I booked and paid for city sightseeing who transferred my ticket to Skyline who transferred me to Big Bus tours without me knowing. I dont think there is any #citysightseeing in San Fran, its just a website selling your tickets on. This company is happy to oversell the tickets by a big margin. We specifically asked about capacity when buying tickets and they assured us that there are always spare seats. Lo and behold - when we tried to board the first bus, we were told there were no seats left. OK, had to wait for the next bus (30 min). That one got filled to capacity after 2 stops as well. Fast forward - 4:30 pm, we are trying to hop on the bus and its full as well! We had a choice of either standing until someone hope off or waiting for another 30 min. We close standing on the bus and enjoyed the same story on each stop - people trying to board our bus only to be told to wait.Guides are also very uneven. The first guide was very knowledgeable and practically showered us with historical, architectural, and cultural information about every building or street corner. The other one preferred crude jokes about bodily functions and drugs. Overall, not recommended.

Good tour for seeing the main attractions of the city and learning about its history. But lines for the bus do get long at times and some of the drivers are quite rude and pushy. I did this tour with my 2 kids a couple of years ago. It was great and I told everyone I knew to go on this tour. My family of 5 decided to do it for our trip to San Francisco this summer and it was a NIGHTMARE! We got on the bus fine at Chinatown and rode to North Beach. Got off, pinned the location in our phones and took photos so we’d know just where to stop. Ate lunch and went back to the stop. 3 EMPTY buses flew past us, the drivers barely glancing our way. After waiting an hour we decided to walk to the next stop (Columbus & Beach) and get on there, hoping for more luck. 2 more empty buses flew by without stopping! At this point we had walked several miles and been waiting 2 hours for a bus to stop and pick us up. Finally a bus stopped and we got on. We rode to the main starting point and went onto a new bus to start over. By now it was after 4 pm. The last bus runs at 5. We rode, terrified to get off and miss any more buses and risk getting stranded. On this bus we noticed the driver never slowed down for the designated stops. Twice we had to yell at the tour guide to stop because people were trying to get on the bus! We decided to risk it and join everyone else at the Golden Gate Bridge stop. We enjoyed that and quickly got into another bus with a great tour guide, Giovanni. He was wonderful. Charming, funny, full of great info about the city. Each time we came to a designated stop he made sure the driver stopped. Unfortunately, at this point there was only 1 bus behind us and we weren’t sure it would stop, so we stayed on and missed all the exploring we had hoped to do.Do this tour at your own risk! If you get a good, alert tour guide and driver you should be fine. But if not, you’ll be like us, pushing a stroller and dragging 2 other kids all over the city praying a bus stops. It was a total waste of money. It would have been cheaper and less waiting to take an Uber to each stop!

Their website sucks on a mobile. The real-time tracker was broken for our whole stay. The website said to call to confirm bus schedule but nobody answers. One of the buses broke at the Science Academy stop. One of the trolley almost hurt us while we were riding it and ripped part of the side of the bus in the tunnel to the green/red line transfer. Finally at stop 1 tonight their people add us wait in line after the last bus left until we asked them if another one was coming. Finally, it’s expensive, the buses don’t run for long and not that often. We’ve taken such buses in multiple cities. This was the very worst experience. The only good thing they have for them and worth that star I gave them just for himself is Willy, one of their driver. Coolest dude in town.

Definitely not worth it. Paid $50 per person for basically transport between tourist sights. The red line is too short and the blue line is too long. The purple line is fine but the wait to get on board is too Long. Most importantly the so called ‘live guides’ are well almost live. The lady I had, yawned most of the time. The bus ‘captains’ are just rude and drives without regard to passenger comfort. There were a couple of part time guides that were very good. They tried very hard to be funny and take care of customers. One of them was Jason. So don’t bother with this amateur set up and pay for proper guides.

She was yelling so loudly she attracted the attention of the police. Bear in mind I understand SF traffic, I understand delays. The on/off aspect is kind of neat. We were able to get off and spend as much time in the area as we wanted. Riding the top of a double deck bus over the bridge was incredible!Unfortunately they were never running on time. We generally had to wait over the scheduled time before a bus arrived. At one stop we ended up waiting for over an hour. After that we ended up getting a Lyft and made it to our destination on time.So if you are on a schedule I would not recommend this. My group and I arrived at the Leavenworth office in the morning to pick up our vouchers for the All Loops tour. The office staff were polite and friendly - and helped us right away with our tickets and explained the bus schedule for the different routes. We started off with the Golden Gate/Sausalito tour. We boarded the bus right before departure time and found plenty of seats for the 5 of us to sit near each other. Our tour guide, Spencer, was very outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He made the ride enjoyable and relaxing, but also knew so much information about the city and our surroundings. I found myself learning more about the city even though Ive lived in the Bay Area my whole life!We were able to get off at the stop in Sausalito and spent an hour having lunch and shopping. We were able to get right on to another bus and finish the tour back to the starting point.Later in the day, we also did the Downtown tour. Our tour guide (unfortunately, I forget her name) was new but still very informative and friendly with the group. She interacted with the guests during the tour and, at each of the stops, greeted/thanked every person who got on or off the bus. We left the bus at the first Chinatown stop so we could walk around and explore, and she let us know which ways we could go and where the other nearby Chinatown tour stop was in case we wanted to get back on later.Unfortunately, we were unable to ride on the Golden Gate Park and Night tours because of dinner reservations, but overall I am very impressed by the tours we did and can happily say we will be back again! Each staff member was helpful and kind and I could tell right away that the company as a whole strives to make sure each guest is accommodated.I had a great time celebrating my birthday while enjoying the tours and city with my family and friends. City Sightseeing is a great way to explore the city - whether you are visiting San Francisco for the first time or have lived in the area for your whole life, there is always something new to see and learn!

Its fine as long as you dont get off the bus. For something that markets itself as a hop on / hop off service, it is remarkably difficult to hop on. So we are waiting, and waiting, and waiting. There is a bus sitting there, but we cant take it.Stop 6 seems to be the place to catch all these tour buses, and several of those operators had buses sitting there empty too. Supposedly there was traffic along the line, like between the first stop and ours. When the bus FINALLY came, I asked the girl next to me (who had gotten on at the first stop) if there had been traffic, she said no.No one knew what was going on, and it was chaos. It would not have been so bad, if there had been any shelter from the sun. It also would have been nice if all those people standing around with official tee shirts had bothered to tell us we could walk on block to the other side of Union Park and catch the bus at stop 18.Instead, they said we would have to walk over some hill. When I asked if I could just return my ticket and skip it, I was told I would have to go all the way to Fishermans Wharf. My suggestion is that the company needs to train its people a bit better, and tell them to not make things up wholesale.Once on the bus, it went well, and was a nice trip.

Wow!! Ridiculously unnecessarily rude customer service!! My friend is visiting and wanted to take this tour... It seemed like kind of a rip off to me, but since Im not a native of SF & live in the east bay, I figured that maybe they could show or tell us about some stuff that I didnt know. I asked about their shuttle times from downtown to the office, where for some unknown reason youre required to pick up for their Golden Gate Bridge tour. They said they only had 3 shuttles from downtown within the space of 30 minutes starting at 8 am... uh.. OK?? I thought that was pretty inconvenient given that the tour appeared to run all day... but I thought maybe I was mistaken about that, so I followed up to confirm that the tour did run all day... nothing cheeky in my message, just simply asking if those were also the only time the tour ran. Their response was No those are the shuttle times, thats what you were asking about. ?? That patronizing attitude is totally uncalled for! Why would you treat perfectly polite customers like that right off the bat??Also... (although I didnt even say this to their customer service) why the heck are there only 3 buses early in the morning for a tour that runs all day?? Whats the point of running a tour bus that picks up 22-35 minutes from BART?? Its completely pointless and a rip off!!Their downtown tour is even a bigger rip-off. First of all, besides Chinatown, there is really nothing interesting to do downtown. Second of all, most of the stops are all in walking distance of each other, except for Fishermans Warf, which is also boring, but also easily accessible by public transport!Rude customer service and pointless, rip off tours - do not sign up with these guys!!

There are so many bad things about this tour, Im not even sure where to begin. Outside of them running unregistered, dangerous buses that crashed in Union Square and injured a ton of people, this is a pretty poorly managed tour.As mentioned by a bunch of other people, it looks like the bus picks up in front of the tour office. Literally no one tells you that you are not at the pickup location. I double checked the tickets after seeing two of their buses pass by to a location about two blocks away. I was waiting in front of their business for 10 minutes, and no one mentioned anything. And I thought this was just me.My first tour guide got into a fight with a pedicab that may or may not have cut him off. The front windshield on the top is not big enough for the Golden Gate tour (where you take the highway), so bring multiple coats. I hopped on the bus for the second tour, the bus took off, and they announced the tour had been canceled and the bus was going one way to Union Square. This is probably something they could email out to people with tickets. Or maybe they should have someone tell you the tour is canceled before getting on the bus. That would seem pretty easy. When I asked the person (who probably should have been at the doors) when the bus was returning to the pickup spot, he was very rude. Thanks to this company, I got stuck 25 minutes away from my hotel with no way to get back. By the time I was able to get back to my hotel, I wasted 2 hours and had to pay for a taxi. They did refund 25% of my tour (included four tours), after I asked. I would have been fine with that if I didnt get stuck on the other side of town. There are a lot of really good tours in San Fran, but I wouldnt recommend this one. The next morning I did have a very good tour guide and driver, but man, this company is so poorly run I couldnt possibly recommend them. Just a stunning level of incompetence from everyone involved, and that apparently extends to the safety of their vehicles.

Very uncomfortable seats. Nice that the guide is a person instead of a recording. But the advantage is lost when you can hear only about a quarter of what is said over the noise of the city, the wind, and traffic bouncing off tunnel walls. I was sitting in a row just behind a speaker, and was continually frustrated. I think that there was some interesting information about the early days of Golden Gate Park and something about some of the other neighborhoods. But I couldnt swear to it. I considered moving down to the lower level. But they have wrapped the bus in an advertisement, and obscured the windows in the process. If all you want is a guided tour of the city, its not bad, assuming you get one of the good tour guides (Deborah was one of the best Ive had anywhere). But, youre paying a premium for hop on/hop off service, and they are blisteringly incompetent at being a hop on. Buses dont run often enough to hop off and rejoin more than twice, if its even possible to get back on. They sell more tickets than they have space for, so thats far from guaranteed. We went with this company because their package included tours to Sausalito and Muir Woods. This was a huge mistake. Taking the first bus to Muir Woods in the morning, we were on the second bus back to Sausalito; their routes require Muir Woods -> Sausalito, Sausalito -> Golden Gate Bridge, and then around the majority of the city loop.By purest luck, we arrived at Sausalito seconds before the bus to Golden Gate departed (youd think that would be coordinated, but we were repeatedly told we wont know if you can make your transfer until we get there and look). Upon arriving at Golden Gate, we immediately got in line for the city loop. This was a wonderful vantage point from which to watch every other tour operator (and the Muni) to send bus after bus. When a bus did finally arrive, there was room for five people, out of at least fifty in the line. The driver had zero sympathy, responding to complaints with a surly you should have joined at the beginning of the tour! This is a completely unacceptable attitude for an operator that both advertises as a hop on/hop off, and runs routes that *require* customers to join a tour in the middle. They claimed that they were sending an empty bus to arrive in 10-15 minutes. It did not arrive. We did manage to squeeze on to the next normal bus (most of the line was, again, not that lucky), which arrived after the hourly Sausalito bus had returned. It took 2.5 hours from leaving Muir Woods to get back onto the city loop. Some City Sightseeing employees claimed the delays were due to unexpected traffic, but at least five Gray Line buses arrived between CS buses.Gray Line will be getting all of our tour business in the future.

I was horribly disappointed in the buses, the first two we caught (one at Union Sq at 9AM) did not have guides, as advertised on the website. Half of the headphone jacks didn’t work, so we ended up sharing headphones. The buses were running much closer to 30 minutes than the advertised 15. Then when we took the bus leaving the pier, they told us we had to get off and check into the office several blocks away. How dumb is that! Then when we get back to the bus, we had to go into an office (after waiting in yet another line) and get the “bar code read”. Dumbest practice I can imagine, and extremely inconvenient for the customers. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I am planning to tell everyone I know.

FALSE ADVERTISING - Paid for 3 day tickets for 4 tours and only got 2 day tickets for 3 tours.Do not use City Sightseeing San Fran whose partner is Skyline Sightseeing and operate with the Big Bus Tours. Our family of 6 purchased 3 day Hop-On Hop-Off tickets with the Alcatraz Package via City Sight Seeing San Fran whose partner at the time was City Tours San Francisco. We went to San Fran at the start of June 2019.On our voucher it detailed that we were to redeem it at City Sightseeing 1331 Columbus Avenue, however when we went there to collect our tickets it was not the City Sightseeing office. We asked around, and found out that they had moved months ago to Taylor St. It was very bad that we were not informed of the office move.We went to the new office to collect our tickets, this office was branded Skyline Sightseeing - we received here more vouchers, ones for Alcatraz that we were doing that day, and the others branded Skyline Sightseeing. We had a great afternoon at Alcatraz however the day was soon ruined when we had to collect tickets, we kept looking round for Skyline buses, however could not see anything with the exception of Big Bus. We spoke to a few people and we worked out that Big Bus Tours was the bus company for Skyline and City Sightseeing. We went to Jefferson St/Mason St, the office of the Big Bus Tours and also stop 1 - a conductor was on the pavement, we gave him our vouchers and he printed us a roll of paper which had the 6 tickets contained within it. We quickly jumped on the bus and when I was going through the ticket, I noticed that it only had 2 day bus passes on it. I quickly ran down the stairs of the bus and said to the conductor, he told me they dont offer that ticket anymore and its only a 2 day pass. I went into the office and said to the manager, they informed me that they no longer offer it - instead they do a two day pass with Madame Taussauds tickets, we said we dont to go there as we have seen it in London. He snatched my tickets, and started going through the roll ripping parts out - this was the Taussauds tickets. I jumped on the bus as my family shouted that it was going and I told them I would be in touch.I drafted an email while on the bus, therefore missing all the sites - on closer inspection I noticed that the original ticket detailed 4 tours, Official City Tour, Park and Zoo Tour, Sausalito Tour and the Night Tour however on the maps there was no Park and Zoo Tour. They had dropped one of the tours that we really wanted to see, where they did not notify us. I checked on the terms and conditions of the Worldwide City Sightseeing website where it detailed that if the tours were to change they should publish it - this did not happen, as I searched their social media.I reached out to the company on chat and via email, I even tried ringing them however once you are on hold for 45 minutes and it cuts you to voicemail you are never hearing back from them.In the end we didnt even get to do the Night Tour, as we had planned to do that on the third night as we had plans for the first and second nights. It is now 7 weeks since I sent my initial email - I have not heard a response where I have sent numerous emails asking for a response. I have also forwarded it to the Worldwide City Sightseeing customer services dept who are based in Europe. They say they have to wait for the local manager to respond to them, they also detailed they are having issues with this office and should not be operating under the brand of City Sightseeing.I finally received a chat response back from the San Fran office, they say their staff are trained to tell people that you dont get a 3 day pass, and also that they dont offer 4 tours only 3 tours and that they cant offer a refund. This did not happen, and in any case we should be compensated for the one day that we did not receive and also for there being 1 less day.Very poor customer service, they do not answer the phone or reply to voicemails - they have not once replied to my many emails.

Bus schedule is very poor. They skip stops because they cant stay on time. That said, people sitting and waiting would have no idea the bus is bypassing the pickup location. I would recommend one of the other city tour bus companies if you desire doing this type of tour in SF.

Should have read these reviews before booking. We waited untill 10:35 for a bus that was supposed to arrive at 10:12. Eventually we called an uber to get to the next destination. We were told buses run every 30 minutes throughout the day but that has not been the case. We probably would have been better off taking taxi/ride services around the city. Do not book this bus.

We had a good experience with the company. The worst point is the time you have to wait until obtaining your tickets in their office. In spite of this, the guides and drivers were nice and funny. We had a great time while in the bus. Specially nice was a guide who recommended us to go to Stincking Rose.

You have to get your tickets in Fishermans Wharf, which I didnt realize at first. The first leg of the tour was awesome (from Fishermans Wharf to the Golden Gate Bridge), but the Sausalito tour wasnt super interesting. It was fun to ride across the bridge, but our guide didnt provide any info about anything we saw. The third bus we got on (back at the Golden Gate Bridge onwards) wasnt nearly as good as the first guy. He spent more time telling bad jokes than telling us info about the city. Overall, it was a fun experience though. We did almost miss the second bus because it was branded completely differently than the first one.

The pickup/dropoff locations arent visibly marked anywhere in San Fran, they dont make stops a requirement either, so if you might be expecting to get picked up at one of their stops along the way, its entirely possible the bus will go right by you unless someone already on the bus wanted to stop there. The schedules are inconsistent, and drivers will sometimes even skip stop areas entirely to avoid traffic. To see a lot of the city quickly, this is a bargain, but consider the hop-on hop-off piece of this to be very tongue-in-cheek.

Our first stop was at the Golden Gate Bridge, and we stoped for a snack and went back to the bus stop to get picked up. The bus arrived a few minutes after. Everything was fine until they dropped us off at the Flower Conservatory and decided to make us wait 1 and 1/2 hours for another bus.

Customer service with some of the employees was great! The first contact we had was with a driver chastising is for not having the scroll of tickets from the mothership. We had the printed ticket which instructs us to present to bus driver. Following drivers accepted the ticket until we got to the stop to print them off.We also had several buses travel past our stop, without acknowledging our presence, after we signaled them. Understood the bus may have been full however a courtesy stop to explain situation would extend a long way. We waited a pretty long time at two stops, both in excess of 40 minutes. We had great experiences and poor ones. Really a coin flip. Had we known the waits would be that excessive we likely would not have booked the event!

We took our tour yesterday evening, Dec. 6. We are local SF people. The kids did not get any goody bags. I expected to see more holiday lights. Most of the time was spent on the bus trying to maneuver through commute traffic. Only saw Chinatown, the Financial District, Fairmont Hotel, Civic Center, but no Union Square, no Pacific Heights, no Marina district.

Guides were knowledgeable, but the buses were very old and not well maintained (my picture shows a seat thats not even fully bolted to the floor). Also, buses fill up super quick and you should really start from stop 1 (their office) if you want to get the best seats and a full ride around the routes without transferring buses.

Review №80

On some buses they have reserved seats for guests. They humiliated us in front of a bus when we dared to sit on someone elses seat. They have way too few buses for the city. They make you leave the bus just to board the very same bus again because of no reason. They completely ruined our vacation in SF. We wasted a lot of time because of them in this insanely overpriced and seriously overrated city. And one more thing. They expect to be tipped for everything here. We tip when were satisfied with a service and not by default. And definitely not this time... We did tours on hop-on hop-off in LA, Dubai, Glasgow, Toronto, Rome, and more. This in SF was the worst of the worst. Takeaway from the SF trip: take the recent(!) reviews on hotels, restaurants and services seriously.

They offer hop-off and hop-off on 24 different locations in the city, but you cannt really do this because the long, almost eternal lines to get in back. Lines of 1.5 hours or more. We use five different buses in our two days experience, and the sound system on four of them were terrible. They announced the tour as having translation in multiple languages, but that system is nonexistent. The night tour was a very good experience, but the day ones not at all.

We decided to use City Sightseeing Buses to take us to Muir Woods. We had planned to get to the woods early in order to see everything. We should have expected trouble from the minute we met the rude clerk at reception. Service was rather slow also.We literally had five minutes to cross a couple of streets to join a huge queue. Worse still there was not even enough seats for us. We were a group of seven and had spent a couple of hundred pounds on transport to Muir Woods. We were told to go on a bus and had to get three different buses to get to Muir Woods. We arrived at Muir Woods at 12.00 which was 3 hours before we originally intended. I have never experienced such poor service. 0/5

Not impressed, cancelled services due to traffic being busy on a holiday weekend, who would have expected that? Obviously not this company who happily took our money and that of many others without ever intending to provide any kind of service.... use big bus instead! Actually just get a muni card and dart around the city instead including the tram, definitely better value for money.

Very disappointed with this tour. I expected to hear about the history of SF and see the important locations and buildings of the city. Instead, I learned more about the tour guides dog and boyfriend than I did about San Francisco. I asked for the recorded audio option, but was told it wasnt an option. Some of the sites promised were pointed to as the bus drove by. Until this service improves and offers a quality San Francisco historical experience, youre better-off to rent a car and visit the sites with a history book. The city is easy to navigate by car. Its not worth paying a lot of money for this tour because you walk away with no more knowledge of SF than when you got on the bus. Very disappointing.

Absolutely appalling service. They cancelled the red line at the last minute (with no reduction in price). We watched multiple arguments between staff and passengers. The buses dont actually follow the roads shown on their map on the website. We waited an hour near pier 39 and no bus showed. Despite the fact that the voucher from an online ticket sale explicitly says that it can be redeemed onboard, multiple staff told us that we actually had to go to their main office (6 blocks away) to convert it to a paper ticket. A single star for the lovely lady who processed my refund.

The tour guides and bus drivers are great - as well as tours themselves; however, the office staff are terrible. The office itself is dimly lit and un-inviting and good luck getting them to answer the phone. We waited on hold for 10+ minutes and when we arrived to the office to turn our Groupon into tickets to board the bus there were no other customers and 3 employees. Were unsure why not a single one of the three employees could pick up the phone within 10 minutes.Again, we loved the tour, we loved the tour guides, we loved the drivers, but the overall experience because of the lack of responsiveness from the office staff really brought down the whole experience for us.
