One of the few gyms in SF still offering a focus on weight lifting. This location is new and equipment is in excellent condition. Lots.of variety and plenty of squat racks. A solid place to workout. The overall management is lacking. They do little to assist members and employees often seem completely clueless when you report a problem. The chain has little competition in SF, which is their saving grace.
I go here for my workout. Quite spacious and well equiped. Definitely recommend to anyone in the east of San Francisco
Convenient location especially if you’re working around the FiDi area. Wide variety of machines and a yoga room with ample of space. Clean and new changing rooms and showers are stocked with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner that all smell really good!
My experience with the management here has been horrible. I was able to freeze my membership via phone three months ago, and once my membership resumed, I opened the app to confirm I was able to go. The app had a glitch saying my membership was still on freeze, to which I spoke with Maria and her handling of the situation was unprofessional and dismissive. She left me a voicemail addressing some other issue and when I called the front desk to handle the matter again, I was told I would need to email the Freeze department. My issue was NOT regarding any sort of reimbursement but rather RESTARTING my membership. When I finally got a hold of Maria, her explanation and tone were quite patronizing and combative, speaking over me multiple times and refusing to acknowledge her mistake until I repeatedly explained the situation.I guess you get what you pay for.Back to Equinox it is!
Fitness SF has been awesome! My personal trainer Tina is seriously the best. Fitness SF has also taken so many steps to make sure everyone feels safe working out during these tough times. Including creating two outdoor gyms. It seems like a great place and it definitely is the best gym I have ever joined.
If you are thinking of joining a gym in the Bay Area, DO NOT join Fitness SF. They have instituted a policy forcing all new and current members to install an app in order to enter the gym. Go to your app store and review the permissions and reviews for the Fitness SF App. Take a look at the location permissions. Now ask yourself what purpose it might serve that every time you open the app Fitness SF, logs your location, likely stored in the cloud in an open S3 bucket, together with all your personally identifiable information. And if your wondering if thats likely, ask yourelf how likely it is that Fitness SF is hiring Infosec professionals to lock down that data, here in the Bay Area where billion dollar software companies are having a hard time competing for that talent. If you have any doubts about whether they have instituted this policy call them before you show up to sign up.Fitness SF will argue that you always have the option to go to the web site, log in and get a QR code, but lets face it, do you really want to log in to a web site and get a QR code every time you go to the gym, or do you want that experience to be as friction free as possible. If you are a member of this gym, check the permissions on the app. If you are disturbed by what you see, and at being strong armed into installing the app, and having your location shared, voice your opinion loudly. Write a review here and on Yelp, until you are given a choice. If you are in any doubt about the strong arm tactics being employed, try show up to the gym and say you want so sign in manually, and no longer use the app. See what happens.
Great new gym! This is now the biggest gym in the San Francisco with an unprecedented 20 squat racks, 2 sets of free weights and 8 adjustable benches, and numerous cardio and weight machines. I havent seen this place at the busiest times yet (before and after work hours) but dont imagine that youll have to wait very long for any equipment. Also, the locker rooms are nice and spacious, although the showers have curtains right now until the glass doors are installed. The yoga, cycling, and group fitness rooms are still under construction but will open Jan 6th.
Good gym. Large space.
Pros: Newest gym so has new equipment. Location is convenient if you live/work in downtown. Got plenty of squat racks and machines. The cycling and studio experience is cool too.Cons: Not as big as their SoMa location and doesn’t have parking but that also means it isn’t as crowded
Great gym, tons of squat racks, and great equipment
I love this gym so much
My first time today tried their outdoor gym. Didnt know that they dont have fountain water so i need to be prepare myself next visit. Also, met a very rude member who kept looking at me in a very rude way when I waited for him to finished using squat rack. Please have manner, we all need to share this gym. Other than that, its ok experiences. Staff are helpful and nice. Would be better if you can have back extension machine.
The gym is good, but the policies are not!I was charged ~$90 because I didn’t cancel my account after 3 months freeze. They don’t notify you either. They can’t refund the money they took (policy that doesn’t care about the customer), for the services they didn’t provide.I’m disappointed 😞
Outdoor Gym During Covid-19 Nov/Dec Closure:Was pleasantly surprised by the selection of equipment, it felt like a nice experience to workout there for an hour. There is only one of most machines, so expect to wait and jump on whats open, but thats more just the reality of gym life these days. Two deadlift platforms with squat cages, two separate squat racks, those are popular, but at least there are that many. This is likely one of the very best options in town.Kind staff as well.
Thank you for continuing to find ways to stay open while keeping us safe and healthy. The outside gym is such a great alternative after the stay home order.
Excellent gym: very well equipped & clean. the staff is super nice and accommodating. great job fitness sf team! 👌
Great amenities and very clean. I workout here almost every morning before work and enjoy everything about it.
Great gym but they really didnt think the locker room through. there is one awkward bench for like 40 lockers and a line of people waiting for shower (8am). this place is a 5 star if you go during non peak hours. I would suggest trying out small stools instead of benches taking up all the space
Have been going to the Embarcadero location for the past couple years. The Transbay opening was something that I and many others were looking forward to. Staff is very helpful/friendly. This facility layout is probably my favorite among all Fitness SF locations. Equipment is about as good as it gets, love the indoor turf. Does get packed around peak hours but so does every other gym. Would highly recommend.
Huge open space, safe covid procedures
The staff is super friendly....great location
Uniquely and distinctively SF (washlets 🙏), and superior to any Equinox in town in every way. Support local gyms!
This facility is top notch. It’s in an amazing new building with ample space and breathing room. The locker rooms are clean, spacious and bright. The location is right at the border of SOMA and Financial district. Great for commuters who use the Transbay Terminal to get to and from work.
I recently toured this location and absolutely loved it! One of the managers Nate from the mid-market recommended me to this specific location. I will definitely suggest this gym to my co-workers who work/live nearby!
If you live or work anywhere close to this gym, you’d be a fool not to be a Fitness SF member. Prepaid plans are reasonably priced on a monthly basis, take a free class and use the brand new facilities. It is my hope that the Fitness SF organization will maintain this location properly for the foreseeable future.
I got the chance to tour this location. I’ve been a member for years and I’m excited they’ll have a location close to where I work! They have a massive amount of Olympic platforms and the space overall looks amazing. Looking forward to getting in some good workouts at this location.
Love the gym! Its new, clean, tremendous amount of space, tons of different pieces of equipment for use, and very friendly staff. Ive never seen so many Olympic platforms / squat racks, benches, and dumbbells for use at one gym. One thing I hope to see soon are some additional attachments for the cable machines (Example pics attached). Id go here every day if they had them but Ive been going to other Fitness SF locations in order for some more variation. Theyre usually pretty common bars that you can find at most gyms, so I was surprised when I didnt see them. The options right now seem a bit more limited than normal. Im hoping these are just still on the way or will be added soon.
Large gym. New construction. I was greeted immediately and treated very well. Plenty of space and equipment. I look forward to making this my everyday gym!
Not a huge fan of the shared showers. I know it is currently being fixed, but it has already been several weeks with minimal progress.Update: Lowering my review to 1-star. Shower dividers still havent been installed.
The directions to get here are fantastically bad. Expect to spend 20 minutes wandering around to find the entrance and be irritated the entire time!Otherwise a fine fitness sf. Really big, still finding its footing.
Nice has a lot of equipment
Enormous state of the art gym convenient to multiple modes of public transportation. Be sure to ask for a tour on your first visit.
Where is the outdoor gym? I tried to look for it but no luck.
As a former Crunch member, making the switch from Crunch to FITNESS SF was the best decision I have made so far this year! Sure - the price ($99) is on the steep side, but no contract/annual fee. For once, I feel comfortable taking a shower at the gym post-workout due to the cleanliness and availability of clean towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and Drybar Buttercup blow-dryers in the locker room. I really appreciate the well thought-out areas of equipment in the two gym spaces - especially the space with all the Olympic platforms (Eleiko uses kg!). Its nice knowing that I rarely have to wait for a platform to be available for me to do deadlifts at five in the morning!
Definitely agree with the size, openness, newness, and cleanliness everyone else has mentioned - though they are still missing a number of items (e.g. bosu balls / ab benches and the variety of resistance bands that they have in other locations).Main warning is prepare to sweat - they have heat running and it can make it a bit uncomfortable, especially since some of the vents blow right on cardio equipment and free weights. Other locations tend to run warm too (to the point that some people literally bring their own fans...!), so considering this hasnt changed elsewhere since Ive been a member, not optimistic about any circulation improvements here either :-((. Towels are also only available in the locker rooms, and its quite a trip back there from far end. Also get ready for a headache when classes are going - the door-less studios + super-loud music = bass infiltrating through the entire gym.Excited to have a new spot near my work, but not yet my go-to location for these reasons!
Been going late night so there are less people, has all the actually useful machines, lots of free weights and plenty of squat racks, great gym layout and friendly staff, nice facilities. Also everything is brand new.
Great gym - huge, friendly/helpful staff, tons of equipment, super reasonably priced.
Cold, white, gray, emo modern tech millennial decor with cliche wood lobby. Imitative, follower, rude, awkward, Status Olympian customers. Not as bad as mid Market or SOMA. But the location is great for bus riders in city and Oakland. No food options, except Starbucks on roof. Excellent equipment.
Went in, scanned my card. Start to walk in, some lady accuses me of sneaking in in a confrontational tone, asked if I signed in up front, I say yes. Ten minutes later, she comes up to me again with her laptop, on the screen is a page with a list of some Indian names who are registered for the gym, she says in a mean commanding tone to tell her my name. I do. After she finds my membership, she checks the sign in logs to see if I signed in. After seeing that I had signed in, she then proceeds to blame me for not putting a photo on my profile and then tells me its because people come into this place looking for Greyhound. make sure you have your picture taken so this does not happen againTLDR: racial discrimination; staff member accused me, without evidence, of sneaking in even though I had signed in
This place is helping me make some insane gains. my physique might just give schwarzenegger an inferiority complex
Absolutely my favorite location of all the Fitness SF branches. Great equipment selection with plenty of redundant machines so waiting is rare, even when crowded.
Will definitely recommend this gym to my friends and co-workers, staffs are friendly and helpful specially mariana and jeshua. Plus the gym is huge!!
Clean gym, gets the basics down with large machine selection. Ceilings are a bit low. Would like to see longer hours, as it was initially advertised as open till midnight during pre sale. Weekend hours are bad. Should stay open till at least 8pm on weekends and 11pm on weekdays.
Wish it could be open for longer like the SOMA location
Got gym
Great
