In 2017 the IRS said we owed them $53 K. Fast forward, my husband passed away 2/18/2019. I was consumed with grief. After a month I knew I had to get our tax situation taken care of. Upon recommendation from my tax accountant, I called Darryl Hale at Tp Hat Tax & Financial Services. After my initial conversation with Darryl, I gathered up some stuff and sent it to him via FAX. Darryl called me back about a week later. I was combative and negative and repeatedly told him the IRS was trying to get blood out of a turnip and I couldn’t afford to pay him! I just wanted the whole situation to disappear. Darryl calmly told me that I can make payments to him and that this will all work out. I signed the power of attorney to Darryl and he followed up a day later. And a day after that. And a day after that. Every time that I saw his number on my phone, I dreaded it. Not dreading him, just the subject of taxes and what I now owed. I know we all have to pay our taxes and rightly so, but I just felt like I was in a black hole and couldn’t get out. I was overwhelmed from everything that had happened to this point in my life. If not anything else, this is the most tenacious man! There is no “I give up” in this guy. Did I say I had have no money? I kept avoiding his calls and In the meantime I listened to yet another friend who said file that I should file the OCI myself and save the money in paying an EA. Well, I did. It did not go well. If I can give you a piece of good advice….DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF. I made a mess of things. Darryl called me and questioned what I did. He patiently explained that he is now dealing with an IRS agent who is asking more probing questions based on what I filed. Ugh gawd, just can I please go into a coma? I knew he wanted to reprimand me, but he held his tongue, ha ha. Darryl said, “Please let me help you. I am good at what I do and I can truly help you”. And help me he did. He got this fixed and the IRS is out of my life. He negotiated and re-negotiated and re-negotiated. Did I tell you he’s tenacious? The IRS accepted my OIC two weeks ago on a Friday (before I opened the letter I thought to myself, why do these people always have to ruin a weekend?). When I opened that letter I cannot tell you the wave of relief and happiness that overcame my body. After 30 years of constant worry and stress and I have been set free. I was able to pay the IRS in one lump sum with help from my mother whom I can repay without penalties and interest. Darryl was able to get the IRS to accept $12K. I’m not a whiz at math, but that is a huge discount from $53K. By the way…I was able to get Darryl paid too. He deserved much more, but he was more interested in giving me some peace of mind and instill back in me that there are kind humans out there and people who really do want to help you. I had received a letter from the IRS stating that I needed to file documentation of my health insurance on my 2018 tax filing. I uploaded the documentation needed on Darryl’s online portal and within 2 hours the document was filed and sent off to the IRS. I have never fixed a problem that fad with the IRS in my life.
