Visited San Diego for a weekend on Labor day and had to get some rolls in for their open mat on Sundays. Let me tell you this was one of the coolest places Ive rolled in and the people were so chill and the room was full of talent! If I ever move here this will be the place to train. Thank you so much for your hospitality and making me feel welcomed! Ill be back fur sure
Legion feels like attending an Ivy League University for Jiu-Jitsu!Classes:My husband Jason, and I attend the “Rise & Sunshine” morning classes which is the perfect way to start our weekdays. Jon’s instruction has started my journey into Jiu-Jitsu off on the right path, with a mix of basic and advanced techniques. Jason also attends the night classes where he learns new concepts to add to his game. Teammates from both classes are a joy to train with!Facility:Consistently clean day & night, from entrance to the mats. Locker rooms are fully stocked, plus hair tie and mouth wash to top off the necessities. Biggest mat space we’ve seen, with non-distracting colors. Tip: always watch out for the robot vacuums so as to not trip over them! :)Staff:Front desk personnel & staff are welcoming and on top of their game. Instructors are extremely knowledgeable with the focus on technical details being emphasized. Bonus tip: watch out for your lapels at this school! All in all, it has been a great experience for us to come here and play. It’s a school that sets us up for success in our Jiu-Jitsu careers!
I primarily train at another academy in SD, but I dropped in for the Memorial Day class/open mat and was very impressed. The facility is huge and beautiful with plenty of mat space and excellent ventilation. Kennan and his team have clearly put a lot of thought into making it a pleasant place to train. The class was excellent as well. Kennan gave some great insight into the Ezekiel and the open mat after was friendly and intense. Had Legion been open when I was looking for schools a few years ago I could’ve happily ended up here
Legion is definitely a notch above all other gyms. Not only are the instructors world class athletes, they have invested time and identified how to best teach Jiu Jitsu to their students. They have an innovative culture, there is always something added to enhance the gym experience. The constant drive for improvement is what sets this gym apart. Anyone that wants to experience the new gold standard for what a modern Jiu Jitsu gym should be, drop by. The vibes are always welcoming and fun at Legion.
Started coming here for Sunday open mat just to get some rolls in. First thing I noticed is that their mat space is huge. Tons of room. Probably enough to accommodate at least...25-30 sets of partners. The girls at the front desk were super nice and friendly and professional. Asked me to sign a waiver, gave me a concise but thorough overview of how everything works and where the lockers are etc. Locker room is spacious, clean, and well-maintained. Same for the mats themselves once I got on them. Its clear that they regularly clean here-- I can tell because Ive been places where its clear that they dont 😬. The folks who show up for the open mats have all been cool. Good mix of skill levels too with all belt ranks usually represented. The environment and atmosphere are healthy and comfortable. Everybody Ive met has been cool. Looking forward to spending more of my Sundays on the legion mats.
Man, what can I say about Legion! First of all the most important aspect about Legion is, you get 100% of the jujitsu you want and 0% of the attitude that you don’t want and don’t need. This is like an egalitarian jujitsu utopia. The instruction is top notch. The people range from the ultimate hobbyist, like myself, to world-class competitors and everybody is there to learn and have fun. I have not encountered a single negative ego yet. The front desk staff which are notoriously snotty at many of the jujitsu gyms around town are kind, helpful, and genuinely want you to have a positive experience. Finally the instructors are fantastic. Notably Andris, such an incredible technician who has an equally incredible ability for breaking down complex concepts into simple actionable steps. He also is able to zoom out and give even low level practitioners a comprehensive overview of why individual techniques are important and how they play into the greater jujitsu framework. No hesitation in offering my highest recommendation.
This gym has the best atmosphere, I immediately felt welcome. The instruction is world class with something for every level. There’s a strength training area as well, which has everything you really need. The facility is always clean, especially the mats. They even have mouthwash in the bathrooms! I’ve never had an issue with parking.
Keenan just came out for a seminar here in Oklahoma City. Everyone had a great time. He was enthusiastic and accommodating of all questions the students had. I’ve also trained at Legion in San Diego and can’t recommend it enough. There’s a great group of instructors and no drama that can often be associated with martial arts gyms. You can’t go wrong here.
Lovely people. Hard training for all levels, from hobbyists to competitors. Instructors are A1 and always willing to go the extra mile. Technique is advanced and well communicated. Facility is MASSIVE. Most mat space I’ve seen in San Diego, with a well equipped weight lifting section and nice locker rooms. Staff is super friendly. Easy 5 stars. Try and convince me otherwise
For sure the best jiu-jitsu school in the area. top level talent teaching and solid students that will help push you to become better. Whenever I am in town I will be here.
This is hands down the best gym I’ve trained at. The instructors are top notch and pay attention to your individual style and are always there to work with you. The gym has a great vibe as well as the people that train there. I would highly recommend this place.
Best Jiu Jitsu gym I have been to. There are enough classes to fit any person’s schedule, and the instructors are top notch. Legion has a laid back environment that makes joining as a new member feel comfortable, and the training ranges from beginner-friendly to intense and competition focused. Definitely worth the price!
Amazing Sunday open mat. Free, welcoming, tons of people, great vibe. Whenever I visit San Diego I make sure to come here on Sundays. People there rolling from noon till after 2:00.
I did a drop in class and everyone at Legion couldn’t have been more inviting and helpful. The class was top notch as well as the customer service (thank you Nina!) would definitely recommend this gym to travellers and locals alike! Thank you Legion!
I started Jiu Jitsu at the end of February. I am so happy that this is the gym that I started at. From the moment I walked in I knew I chose the right place, because everyone was extremely nice, patient, and genuinely interested in my experience during my visit. The instructors are all been amazing. They all have a thorough understanding of the sport and they exemplify that every class. The instructors always make sure the whole class is up to speed, and encourage everyone and anyone to ask questions. There are two parts of Legion that really stick out to me as well. When you sign up, you get access to their weightlifting section. If you are a weightlifter (as I am) then you can see if there is the right equipment in the room for your needs. The other part is Jiu Jitsu X. This is a platform which basically brings the classes to you on the go. When ever I am out of town or get a little banged up, I’ll make sure that I come into my next class having learned something; courtesy JJX.The environment at Legion is one of my favorite parts about the gym, because there is no ego amongst the instructors, other students, or anyone. I always look forward to going into Legion because the community is healthy and positive, which makes learning so much more fun. Jiu Jitsu can be a dangerous sport as well, so the emphasis that everyone puts on safety makes me feel comfortable and confident.
Great Jiu Jitsu academy with top notch staff and owner. I was in San Diego on vacation and wanted to train. I was able to schedule a private class with the gym’s owner, Keenan Cornelius, who is a world-class Jiu Jitsu competitor and was also super helpful and knowledgeable.Highly recommended for anyone looking to train in San Diego!
I’m in love with this place. It is an extremely welcoming environment. The instructors are top notch. The front desk staff is probably the best in the entire world 😉The facility is always clean. Huge mat space. The members and staff are some of the kindest individuals I have ever met. They also have lifting equipment. If you want to learn jiu jitsu, improve your skills/endurance, and be part of an amazing community, come here!!
By far the best gym in San Diego! The facility is out of this world. The environment is super friendly and the instructors are amazing! Next weekend Keenan and all the black belts are treating ALL the students to Açaí after practice! Just another example of how they constantly go above in beyond to make you feel apart of the family.
There’s not a day I leave this place and regret it. I can always count on my instructors to give me great support and constructive criticism which I can apply in real time. Instructors always stick around after to review questions/techniques. Great vibes, great friends.
I went on vacation with my family and wanted to train jiu jitsu early enough while everyone was still asleep. Legion is a great, clean, and spacious location. Sunshine is a great coach and very friendly. The group I trained with was also very nice, kind and welcoming. I rolled with Sunshine, a couple of black and blue belts. All were very technical and sound with great feel, as a visitor I didn’t feel like I was ever in danger of getting hurt. I’m glad I came here to train, and when in San Diego again will definitely come back to Legion.
Awesome experience!!! It’s been on my list for far too long to train at Legion and I finally made it happen while visiting from Seattle. I’m a purple belt and have been training for nearly 5 years. Legion truly has a great and friendly vibe despite there being some real killers on the mat :) Super welcoming experience for all belt levels and it will truly change the way you think about training jiu jitsu!
In town from Oregon, and had to stop by for the open mat on Sunday. Turns out that was a great decision, because the staff and students were all awesome. No ego or chest beating, just good vibes and even better rolls. If you’re looking for for a place to train, you gotta check out Legion.
To start, I should note that I’ve trained at Alliance MG and with 10th Planet guys. Marcelo and Eddie Bravo are great. However, I don’t idolize Keenan the way that many of Marcelo’s and Eddie’s students idolize them. So you know I’m speaking honestly when I say that the instruction and rolls at Legion are better than anything I’ve experienced anywhere else. I don’t say that as some crazy Keenan fanboy—I say that because it’s true. Keenan’s honest, non-dogmatic, open-book approach facilitates an optimal learning and training environment. The instruction, students, and facilities at Legion are top-notch. I’m leaving San Diego for work-related reasons, but if I were to come back to SD, I’d train here again.
Legion is a world class gym with world class Instructors. We travel down from Orange County every week for the incredible instruction and and competition. I highly recommend this gym for all levels and this is coming from someone who trains at multiple gyms per week.
Had a wonderful and safe roll on the 4th of July open mat!! Everyone was nice/inviting and fun! Great mix of skill, and lots of women and younger ones on the mat as well!
Legion AJJ has cultivated an amazing atmosphere, open to everyone of any skill level, all while being trained by the very best in the sport. Very clean facility, very warm and personal staff. There’s no place I’d rather be choked out at than Legion Jiu Jitsu.
Went to an open mat on Fathers day. This place is amazing. Great facilities and super friendly staff who welcomed me right away and knocked out the simple sign in for guests. Place is a mecca for jiu-jitsu. Students from academies all over San Diego and folks from out of town, all coming together for some rolls. Couldnt be more stoked with my experience here. Thank you Legion for your Sunday Open Mat!!
Happy I found this gem. Great training facility, clean environment, and even the bathrooms are clean. Best of it all are the well spoken coaches/instructors and the front desk staff. Always look forward to it.
For anyone interested in jujitsu or improving their skills, you should definitely check out Legion gym in Miramar! It is ran by well known Kennan Cornelius.!Also shout out to instructor Miha🥋
Legion every Sunday for great rolls! We love the community here. Thank you for always being welcoming and opening your doors!
10/5 stars.World class instruction, beautiful facility, and wonderful training partners. The front desk team is super welcoming too.
I have trained at schools all across the US, Legion is the best place Ive trained at so far.The level of instruction is incredibly high. Going into it, I knew of Keenan because I have seen some of Keenans online content, so I expected great classes from Keenan. What surprised me was how good all the other instructors are too. All the classes are taught by high level competitors. Instructors are always willing to answer questions after class and are a wealth of jiu jitsu knowledge. One thing that sets Legion apart in my opinion is that it eschews a lot of the unhealthy gym traditions. There is no black belt worshipping, competitors and hobbyists are treated equally. The vibe is more getting to play pickup basketball with D1 players than a I must bow to my betters and avert eye contact at all times.Unlike some higher level gyms people are friendly. On my first day in I had like 5 different people introduce themselves to me and strike up conversations. For being a gym full of tough guys there are no tough guys. The price point is high but comparable to other San Diego gyms, and there arent a bunch of weird hidden fees like forcing you to buy a gi. The mat space is huge.Overall I have really enjoy training at Legion and couldnt recommend it more.
First time here, came for open mat and this gym is awesome! Super clean and a lot of mat space. Definitely coming back again!
Great welcoming environment! Good, hard training. I brought my friend who was a first timer and she had a blast.
I have nothing but great things to say about Legion. The coaches and my training partners have helped me become significantly better at jiu jitsu since I joined. It is a super friendly and welcoming environment. The facility is clean and the mat space is huge.
Great gym with plenty of mat space compared to what I could find in NYC. There are classes running almost all day for anyone interested in competition prep, in-depth technique instruction, or a place to casually roll with friends.
Joining Legion has been a great paradigm shift in my life. I had not been training for years and on top of that the pandemic shutdown had me feeling like invertebrate mush. Keenan, Andris and the whole crew inspire and motivate me to push my limits. They put it very simply, just train everyday, roll every round. My jiujitsu is improving and even more rewarding is the positivity infused into my personal and professional life. Martial arts is not just self defense or fighting. Keenan has built a temple and the meaning and significance jiujitsu will bring to you is unparalleled by any other aspect of life. Stop by and check it out. Nina and Eleni are very welcoming and will answer all your questions!
The staff is welcoming and the open is not stop rolls. Definitely recommend checking it out!
Came to open mat and the set up is real nice. A lot of mat space. Everyone is nice and was able to get some good work in.
Great staff and great rolls. The customer service is on point, someone is always there to help. Plus, the mouth wash in the bathroom is next level. Can’t wait to come back!
Very happy we brought our 3 boys here. We were looking for something a little different for each of them. One needed confidence, one focus and one control of emotions. Score on all 3 and its only been a few weeks. Amazing transformation and its something that they want to go to everyday. No more awwww mom...
Amazing place to train. Great atmosphere, great vibes. This is a healthy gym.
SUPER FRIENDLY GYM, REALLY CLEAN . THEY HAVE THE BEST SUNDAY OPEN MATS IN SAN DIEGO . AND COOL MUSIC . IF YOURE IN SAN DIEGO I RECOMMEND YOU CHECK THEM OUT . ☆☆☆☆☆
Training at Legion has been the best experience I’ve had in the 4 years I’ve been doing jiu jitsu. I’ve trained all over San Diego and until I made the move to Legion, I had never felt like I belonged at a gym. The facility itself is top notch, very clean and plenty of mat space. The whole coaching staff is amazing, you get to learn from world class practitioners like Keenan Cornelius, Sloan Clymer, Andris Brunovskis, and a multitude of other badass high level grapplers. Legion is a great place to fulfill all your grappling needs, whether it be Gi, Nogi, Wrestling, or Judo, they’ve got it all! The front desk staff is also excellent, Nina is really welcoming and helpful to members, she’s been great at communicating with us about what’s going on at the gym and keeps us updated on class schedule changes. Legion is a great training environment and I couldn’t recommend the gym enough.
Awesome open mat on Sundays ! Great facilities with lots of mat space, good rolls and clean restrooms and changing rooms. Highly recommend
The best part of my day every Sunday. The mats are huge, there is always a rolling partner to choose from and the playlists are straight FOOOIIIIRRREEEE. Amazing gym! Thank you, Keenan and everyone else who runs Legion👏🏻
Legion is a great community welcoming to new Jiu Jitsu athletes. On top of creating a welcoming space for newcomers they have veterans showing the newcomers the ways of Ajj. I try to make it every Sunday for there open mat and always recommend Legion to my new friends looking to train.
Very good vibe. Clean. Nice facility, good welcoming staff. Most of all, great rolls!
Very nice facilities, welcoming and knowledgeable instructors and overall great atmosphere. No complaints and definitely recommend the school
Best place to learn modern Jiu jitsu which works in high level competition as well as self defense scenarios. Both gi and nogi instruction is top notch.
Came here for the open mat, enjoyed how friendly everyone was. Beautiful and clean open space, will definitely be back!
I joined Legion as a complete beginner to martial art with zero grappling or combat sports experience. I was really nervous about jumping into jiu jitsu especially as a 31 year old beginner. However right from the very beginning, the entire staff from the gals at the front desk to the instructors went above and beyond to make me feel very welcome and my nerves completely vanished.Ive been loving my time here at Legion! While Jiu Jitsu is tough, it is so rewarding and made doubly so by the very supportive & encouraging community! I really cant say enough good things about this place! If youre on the fence about trying Jiu-jitsu at Legion, I highly recommended you take the plunge, youre gonna be glad you did.
Legion has been by far the best place to do jiu jitsu. The atmosphere of this place is pretty amazing! Everyone is so welcoming, the instructors are the best (and funny), staff is great and love being able to do jiu jitsu with great people. Definitely would recommend to anyone who wants to join AJJ!
Keenan and the rest of the crew did an outstanding job at creating an atmosphere that allows you to grow in jiu jitsu without any of the drama that comes along with a jiu jitsu gym. Everyone is equal as soon as you step on the mat no matter what rank you are. World class gym, with world class instruction
What in a gym do you look for? Instruction? Sure, every gym has a some kind of medalists and great coaches out there. Facility? Yeah, Most gyms have mat space and weights around. People? I can’t really think of the time when the culture of any gym was significantly toxic. So what makes Legion Jiu Jitsu different versus any other gym that could be more convenient for you? For starters, the gym excels in all three categories.Originally the site of the past Team Nogueira BlackHouse gym, the vast remodeling brings life to what was once was. I would be lying to say we weren’t spoiled then with how big the space was; like wise, Legion Jiu Jitsu benefits from how large the facility is. Combined with a CrossFit/Weightlifting area, I am still amazed that there is a possibility to expand the mat space. Not to mention the Locker Rooms, Offices for Jiu Jitsu X filming, Laundry Service rooms. What is this the Equinox of Jiu-Jitsu Gyms? No…Having all these amenities is not to remind of how fancy a gym is but to make you focus on why you are there in the first place; to practice the art of Jiu Jitsu.“Great … Nice Looking gym, I get it. But I am not only here for that. I am to be trained by Savages” or if you’re new “I am looking to learn about the self-defense” or if you’re a parent “I want my kids to learn disciple and a life skill”. In terms of learning from great instructors, high level competitors, and including the supplemental online instruction provided to Legion members from JiuJitsuX.com; the gym has most bases covered. I could go on each instructor on how great they are but this is not a cult. Trust me from solid foundations to the current BJJ meta you are learning from a great team. The coaches, staff, and community make Legion great because of one key aspect teamwork. This is generally true for most of the grappling community, but everyone at Legion Jiu Jitsu is there to help you progress. From learning for yourself or having a goal to compete. The coaches, teammates, and staff are there to guide you along the way.Did it sound like a sales pitch? Kinda, but no. Was it a honest review? Hell yeah! I hope this review helps you find your way to Legion Jiu Jitsu.
I started going to Legion in early March 2020. My first attendance was for a Sunday Open Mat, and I immediately felt welcomed by the amazing front desk team, all the coaching staff and members! The friendliness and positive energy from everyone is incredible; and not to mention the large amount of mat space and overall cleanliness of the facility!I began my jiu-jitsu journey with Andris Brunovskis’ white belt course. His enthusiasm, patience, and knowledge of jiu-jitsu is top notch. I felt I was able to learn and retain a lot from his class. After gaining some experience and attending the other classes, I can easily say the same about all of them and the other instructors! The incredible quality is all the same throughout Legion’s classes!Even though I recently had to move out of San Diego, I look forward to my visits back to the city and to more training at Legion! If you are thinking about starting your jiu-jitsu journey, I HIGHLY recommend Legion AJJ!
Massive open space for rolls. Great vibe and atmosphere. Professional and sharp staff and facilities for everyone.
This place is the full package. If you’re looking to train jiu jitsu for the first time or if you’ve been doing it for years Legion is for you.I’ve been training here for just under a year now and it’s easily the best experience in a gym I’ve ever had. From my first day, everyone was super welcoming, kind, and make you feel like they really care about your jiu-jitsu. The attention to detail the coaches provide to each and every student in a class is astounding. Not only do they want you to improve but they want you to be safe too. I’ve seen coaches pull students aside and very kindly show them how to be technical instead of spazzing and potentially hurting others. There’s a locker room with lockers, showers, and even mouth wash provided 👌🏼 Water and Jocko Go are available, which is a great excuse to talk to the amazing staff that run the front desk. They are super nice and helpful if you have questions about anything! So if you’re looking to compete at a high level or if you’re just trying to learn, exercise, and have fun this is absolutely the best place in the area. They offer a free week trial too so get in there and try it out!!
Great open mat, staff is professional and friendly. Definitely will be back!
Sunday Open Mat is fantastic. Giant mat area. Lots of rolls with different belts. Everyone who trains should check it out.
Very welcoming staff, and a beautiful facility with great training partners from all around San Diego. If you’re ever in the area, be sure to check Legion out!
Great open mat. Good vibes. Awesome time.
It is an amazing facility. Keenan is great an instructor.
Legion is top notch jiu jitsu gym with great coaches and solid technical instruction. I trained here for 2 weeks while on vacation and as black belt who trains, travels, and competes a lot I really recommend training here. Even as a top competition team, the Legion coaches are still willing to spend time with you to work your game — even as a visitor. Andris truly has a PhD in jiu jitsu, Bruno is alway down to work with you on solving problems in your game, and Connor is just a beast who wants to see you improve. It’s great to get rolls and ideas from a top notch competitors, and the team is a tight knit group that is welcoming to newcomers. The friendly environment ensures that class is always a great time.
Since going here Ive seen a night and day difference in my jujitsu. It’s super clean and everyone is nice, helpful and accommodating.
I absolutely love the environment that this gym fosters. Ive tried a few different locations around San Diego and Legion is the one I stuck to!
Good quality Jiu jitsu. People are friendly, Jiu jitsu is high level.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Definitely recommend for all levels
Amazing atmosphere and everyone was welcoming!! Deff returning
Legion is awesome ! great vibe ! everyone is super friendly . best front desk workers in the game !
Might be the best open mat in daygo 🤙🏾
I joined Legion back in early 2020 and this review is long overdue. First off I would like to highlight the amazing atmosphere at this gym. I was nervous and anxious when first walking in as I didn’t know what to expect but that all disappeared after my first practice in the white belt beginner course. I had tried out a previous gym prior to Legion and it was rough, I was thrown in w advanced belts and it was a fight for survival in which I was using pure strength and adrenaline to get thru the multiple practices I attended. The white belt course at Legion is specifically designed for beginners and it was a very well balanced and comfortable transition into the art of jiu jitsu. Andris is a master and wizard that I’m honored to be a student of, I mean it, this guy will blow you away w his unlimited amount of knowledge and attention to detail. Andris maintains a deep connection with all his students and even at the last practice of the day he comes in attentive and energized to teach and answer any questions you may have always going above and beyond to ensure you dont leave w your question unanswered. Another person I would like to shoutout is Conner who is now teaching alongside Andris for the white belts. Conner is another master on the mats who has a special gift for teaching and for going the extra mile for his students. He will go step by step, over and over if needed, in ensuring his students grasp the concepts and techniques of the lessons being taught that day. Conner hangs out w the students after class and makes sure he is present to answer any questions the students may have and if there arent any questions he is humble and chill enough to just hang out and build connections w everyone around him which is a reflection of his amazing personality. I cant say enough good things about these two guys, and if you ever have the privilege of meeting and train with them you will come to know exactly what I mean. Much love & respect
There is literally nothing bad I can think of about Legion. The two head instructors, Keenan and Andris, are obviously world class competitors, but theyre also incredible instructors. The facility is awesome. Its not even completely finished, and its already miles ahead of every other place Ive been to. Ive never seen a gym with so much mat space. Everything is always spotless, its got to be the most sanitary jiu jitsu gym out there. Also, one thing I love that Ive never seen at another gym is that they have a bottle of Listerine in the bathroom for everyone to use. I seriously think this is something ALL gyms should adopt. The learning environment is fantastic. Keenan and Andris are always walking around giving pointers and details that are incredibly helpful.Definitely recommend checking out the Sunday open mats if youre interested!
Incredible people, big mats, amazing equipment. They got it all 🤙🏻
It was super professional, as well as very well organized. 10/10 will come again!
Welcoming to anyone and everyone. No politics, just Jiu-Jitsu
Awesome school. Great instructors. Very welcoming employees.
Best gym that i ever been to.Top level instructorsTop level facility
Super hospitality! Thanks for the rolls!
Miha and Keenan were the best, definitely coming again
Great open mat on the 4th of July
Very clean and welcoming environment. The staff and instructors are amazing. Womens restroom has spa vibes. Best gym.
Great gym, friendly competition and staff, clean mats!
Great place to train, everyone is so friendly.
Best open mat in San Diego! 💯
If you want to train in a different and innovative way, with a jiujitsu from the future that will change your vision of jiujitsu by improving it at all levels, there is only one solution, come and do a free trial with us, you will not regret it !!! 🙌🏼😀🦅
The level is unmatched. American Jiu jitsu. Where else will you find something like that? Very open minded, and extremely helpful in finding my specific game in jiu jitsu.
Long overdue post, I’ve been at Legion since it’s inception at a friends house learning Jujitsu, cause my previous academy had no open mat on Sundays. I was intrigued by Keenan’s ability to teach to my liking and offer a plethora of information for free, in order to make sense of what I was doing and make use of my time here at the gym on Keenan Online. I like it that if I miss a class for whatever reason I can log in and see what I missed, there’s no excuse to not getting better.I come regularly to the gym I do both gi and no gi, people have come and gone, the pandemic didn’t help, however given the situation Keenan, Miha, Andris and the rest made efforts to keep the training going via streaming, to me this said a lot. This helped me get my mind right and understand better my personnel development as it pertains to going after it and getting it!They started their kids class in June, as I have a young one, my kid is 7 and knew nothing of jujistu. I have noticed a great deal of confidence and motivation to want to go on a consistent basis and have fun. Coach Austin and Paige are knowledgeable with kids and are really involved with the kids, while demonstrating leadership traits that kids will benefit in life and in their learning of jujitsu.I’m impressed at how the gym has come along, and how each instructor adds VALUE to the students, if they’re open minded enough to accept the information given and ask questions. They have lockers, showers, weights lifting area and a free trail for those who are interested. I like Sundays open mat because it WELCOMES & ALLOWS anyone from whatever gym to come and train, so I get to understand and implement different positions.
Those within the jiu-jitsu community need little introduction when it comes to head instructor Keenan Cornelius and Legion. Ive been at Legion for a few months to get in some high level training in San Diego, and the experience has far exceeded my expectations. Here are a few highlights regardless if you are experienced in jiu-jitsu or looking to start:1) Full schedule of diverse classes with a clear direction to accommodate the needs of the students whether you are a beginner, hobbyist, or competitor.2) Immaculate facility and probably the largest jiu-jitsu academy I have ever visited. The facility is cleaned frequently, and there are additional touches such as adequate seating, locker room amenities (including showers), and full gym equipment that sets Legion apart from most jiu-jitsu academies.3) Top notch instruction from the instructors. The instructors are patient and pay close attention to the students progression. Furthermore, there are so many high belts and experienced competitors and practitioners in each class; students are able to train with a variety of people in a safe and challenging manner.4) Friendly and welcoming staff and students. Hands down an amazing culture - just a safe, all-around inviting environment.
Great atmosphere and great rolls!
Awesome coaching and facilities.!
I stopped by for an evening class while I was in SD for business and was please to be greeted by Sunshine. The gym was still being worked on but the mats were comfy and clean. Everyone I rolled with was cool and the only bummer was Keenan never showed up. Other than that I recommend this gym to anyone.
Where else are you going to get a chance to directly learn from Keenan? One week at this gym and my game has already improved. It is a great place to go if youre trying to get a more technical approach to jiu jitsu. innovative and very kind coaches. im telling you if youre not training here idk what youre doing with yourself. at least take advantage of their trial run and i assure you it will make you want to sign up. a very competitive class while at the same time kind and not bullies. also the grip game and guard passes here are 2nd to none. 100% recommend.
Front-desk really putting in the work! 😇
This place will be an institution someday, so I felt fortunate to experience it in its infancy. Keenan and team were friendly and easily incorporated me and a few other visitors into class. This would be an amazing local gym--no surprise there--but I felt like they were doing more than they had to to welcome out-of-town folk as well. Dont miss out.
Dope experience definitely will return!!!
Star struck, huge gym, very welcoming and the highest level of Jiu-Jitsu taught by “Keenan” & his right hand men. Legion has huge mat space for everyone. Honestly On the down low my Jiu-Jitsu game is blowing out the roof right now. Come learn from the best 🤙🏼
Good stuff here
