Beautiful tour of the bay with incredible hosts! If youre visiting the area, dont miss the opportunity to see beautiful San Diego skyline from the flip side. Or perfect gift for those hard to buy for friends or family. A great time, with great people!
Absolutely amazing place to bring your boat/sailboat to. The team and their workmanship is outstanding. My sailboat had tons of serious issues and I was going to do repairs myself and glad I didn’t because now it’s done right by the best Charlie who is amazing gentleman that knows his stuff :) like to say a special thanks to Katie (GM) Charlie (yard manager and boat doctor) Nikkie & Mar the dog (yard tech) George (yard tech)THANKS AGAIN KOEHLER KRAFT
Katie would be the Person that I’m not happy with.A year ago I had my Boat hulled out it’s. A sea ray 370The problem that I had was leaking Shafts.I’m the type of person that will pay for the problem to be fixed properly the first time to not have to do it again! This company likes to blame the The customer for all of their mistakes. It hasn’t even been a year later and I am back in the yard with the same problem. After going back-and-forth with why they’re not going to warrantee it. I agree to have it fixed and asked for any break whatsoever considering that it was justOut last year.I was charged more than they charged last yearAnd They charged me for lay days Even though they did not have the part. This company does not stand behind their work.I own a company working on Yachts for a living and I always take care of all my customers.I can’t say the same about these guys.Best of luck
I recently had my 1978 CHBs stern tube and stuffing box replaced. The staff and crew were incredible, a 20 or 30 year old leak that is common to these boats and hard to even get someone to talk about or look at. They jumped in and figured it out, stayed on budget and worked through my muffler problem plus a random mystery leak. The bottom is bone dry and the smell is gone. I appreciated being able to work on my swim platform and scraping the bad paint to feel the scope of the problem prior to a quality bottom painting. Thanks guys for the honesty about what needs to be replaced and doing it right!
Hands down the best charter/service company you can invest your time and money with in San Diego. The boats are beautifully maintained and are accompanied by friendly staff. Their hospitality stretches well beyond measure. Don’t hesitate to book!
I rarely write reviews or give feedback on businesses, mainly because I simply expect to get the products or services I pay for. But my recent experience with Kohler kraft marine was so above and beyond just getting what I paid for I feel compelled to write a review. I got several bids from San Diego boatyards to handle the preparation for the movement of my 30 ft. sailboat. All were fairly similar in bids. My first contact with Kohler kraft was with Katie, she was extremely helpful in guilding me through the process and provided me with a comprehensive bid. She spent a lot if time helping me to understand what they could do for me (this is my first boat and movement of the boat). I arrived at the boatyard where Katie greeted me and showed me where to move my boat to and sent me an email with a map of the marina. Up to this point I felt Kohler Kraft was pretty much doing their job very professionally and I expect that. But what separated my experience was that Katie seemed to understand my excitement of having my own boat and she showed so much compassion and caring to make this a perfect experience for me.At this point I was working with the crew in the yard, Charlie spent time giving us advice on how to prepare the boat to have the mast and boom removed, since my boat had a in boom roller furling sail he told us how to remove it safely and without incident, he also told us how to prepare the rigging for a quick removal, after all time is money and I was trying to save money by doing as much as I could along with my friend Steve helping. Andrew the crane operator was extremely good at maneuvering the mast safely off the boat. He was very flexible with timing and we were also flexible so we got along great. As they prepared to remove the mast, Bree went up in the bolsums chair to attach the line to remove the mast (not a job I would do) but everyone working there seemes to truly enjoy working there. When you enjoy your job it shows to your customers. The boat was ready on time to be placed on a trailer for shipping, unfortunately due to trailer issues at the boatyard in Puerto Peñasco, the boatyard and myself had to change plans. Enter Katie again who quickly adjusted plans to accommodate this problem. I was upset with the boatyard in Mexico, but it was out if my control.Being a first time boat owner I had lots if questions and everyone helped answer them.I am not able to be with my boat when she will be moved now, I had to get back to Tucson, AZ. But I feel comfortable leaving my baby in the hands of Katie and the crew at Kohler Kraft boatyard. Thank you all for taking care of my boat. I couldnt have asked for a better experience.Sincerely and with much appreciation,Doug Ernsky
Awesome experience with Koehler Kraft chartered boat tour around the San Diego Bay! My friends and I wanted to do something different during our visit to San Diego and this chartered cruise did NOT disappoint. Great views, service, food and fun--highly recommend!
Great yard! Very good communication and very competitive prices. Thanks to the whole crew.
Best DIY yard and crane... lifesaver when in a crunch.
Great job Chip,Kitty, and the whole crew at Koehler Kraft. My Freedom 45got two fresh coats of bottom paint and 3 days later I was back at helm sliding through the water effortlessly. They kept up with the small details and made my entire experience a pleasure.
Ive brought my 1976 Eastward Ho 24 to Koehler Kraft three times for routine bottom work and minor repairs. The staff is experienced and helpful. Chip (customer service manager) was quick to respond to all my questions and was patient in providing explanations and advice. He even gave me a little tour around the boatyard to see the projects theyre working on. Ive had good experiences here and plan to bring my boat back in the future.
Koehler yard has been rebuilding a small wooden boat of mine. Ive had nothing but a good experience with them. C.F. Is one of the best in the industry and has taken this craft and evolved it to work with todays technology. Like any craftsmanship it takes time but is completely worth the wait and investment
I just had my J24 bottom painted last week. I told Chip, the service writer, that my bottom cleaner reported a number of gouges and chips that needed repairing. Chip estimated 6 hours of sanding and repair labor which I agreed too, if needed. When the boat was hauled out, Chip and Jake inspected the bottom and reduced the estimate to only 2 hrs instead of 6 as the bottom was in better shape than my diver led me to believe. I appreciated their honesty. I also spent several days there, dock side, to finish a deck paint job. I found everyone I dealt with to be professional, friendly and accommodating in every way. I had the same experience in 2015, at my last haul it.Good people here...also a great yard cat and couple of friendly dogs hangin around.
Chip had me waiting weeks going back and forth just to get an estimate on a repair, and he ended up referring me elsewhere. I have been nothing but courteous and respectful the entire process. Horrible customer service.
I booked a private wooden yacht charter through Koehler Craft and couldn’t be happier! Check out Wooden Yacht Fleet for more info.
Recently my boat was hauled out at the Koehler Kraft Boatyard for bottom paint, thru-hull replacement, cutless bearing work and a nagging leak that my diver and I could not find. Charlie patiently kept looking and found rusted/damaged exhaust hose clamps in an almost inaccessible area. Troubleshooting at its best! When the hose clamps were replaced the problem-leak was fixed. That was quite a relief since this was the main reason of the haul-out.As most boaters have discovered over the years, the billing after a haul-out includes surprises but not here. The labor charges were explained/settled at the end of each week, they were fair and amazingly fractions of an hour for labor or consultation are used. Now this is a novelty in the boating world.Yes, it was a pleasure doing business with Chip (manager) and crew and most definitely will use their services in the future.
Great service helpful staff
Good and Bad News here so read it all. The good news-this yard feels like a real boatyard with a dedication to wooden boats and real sailors. The yard staff is knowledgeable, experienced and helpful. It is one of the few places you can do your own work, though I did not. The Bad news is their front office and business model motto should be Let the Buyer Beware. Whether due to inexperience, incompetence or shady business practice, its important after getting a quote and before booking, get EVERYTHING in writing and in detail. I wont go into the ugly details, but at several points, I had a very disappointing experience. The YARD foreman, finally tried to make it right.
Although I have not personally had a boat repaired here I do visit this yard regularly. Every time I do visit the workers are well working. Whether it is sanding, scraping pressure washing, painting, taking a boat out of the dock or putting it back in,etc they are doing something for their customers.
Shady business.
