I reached out to Lori Sherer with a very important request. Rather than sharing the same respect that I had extended to her, she responded by sending a text message that did not address the reasons I reached out to her. I believe that a professional should not respond by text, but rather in person or by phone. I withhold my recommendeation.
I am writing to recommend Lori Sherer, who counseled me during a particularly difficult time in my life. I found her by asking friends for a referral; the group she worked with came highly recommended. I ended up seeing her for a little over 1 year. She started by asking questions to evaluate my needs, and as time went on, she started to make recommendations, not in terms of actual advice, but by asking questions and just discussing some of the issues, it helped me think things through. I wouldn’t say my problems were life-threatening, but I did feel an incredible amount of stress and anxiety as a result of some family and work issues, and it made communicating with people at work and in my personal life more challenging. Lori helped me identify several ways to manage the stress, including using a technique called EMDR.When she first described EMDR, I thought it sounded a little far-fetched as this technique is often used on people who have been through a lot of trauma (like war veterans,) and I had not gone through anything as extreme as a war zone. But I agreed to try it, and it worked incredibly well. Over the course of a few weeks, I went from being stressed out and overwhelmed, to being able to talk through a lot of issues with the people creating stress for me. As a result, it helped me solve some of the issues. I have recommended EMDR to a lot of friends as a way to help them ‘re-set’ the way our brains process information. It really is an amazing technique, and I cannot say enough good things about it.I would recommend Lori’s services to anyone who is looking to gain the skills I mentioned, or simply solve some of their problems. She is incredibly patient, non-judgmental, and kind. In addition, she is very pragmatic, and this above all helped me feel like I was making progress because she gave me a lot of practical ideas too.I would say that ultimately Lori helped me to communicate more effectively during stressful times, and to also manage my stress, two great skills I will continue to use through-out my life when it hands me lemons.
