If I could give this zero stars, I would. Where do I begin? We booked a car through Kayak (BIG mistake), which said it would be at the San Diego Airport. When we arrived, they told us it was for this location in the CBX.When I asked if they could switch the reservation, since it was through another Hertz location, the man told me flat out no. I asked if I could then cancel that reservation and rent a car there, his reply, you could but it will cost 2-3 times more.We the had to get a $40 Uber to the other location. On the way there, I called Hertz multiple times, same for Kayak and could not get a live person to speak to. I finally got a person, they asked the reason for my call, and I told them my reservation. I was put on a long hold, then received the message that, ...the location youre calling is dealing with an emergency, so there is no one to take your call, goodbye.We get to the CBX location, go inside and zero staff and a sign saying they close at 8PM. How in the hell was I able to make a reservation months ago, for an 11PM pickup, when they would be closed.Called Kayak...closed. Called Hertz, closed. What a complete and utter joke! Will never, ever deal with Hertz again. Just a complete joke of a company.Avoid at all costs or you will be left stranded, like we were last night!
DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HERTZ Location. They are not affiliated with corporate Hertz as they are an independent location that license the Hertz name. They didnt pick us up from the airport and the reason why is they didnt have any cars available that I had actually booked and received confirmation the day before I travelled that my reservation was confirmed. Reservation was for 6 am, no one showed up until just after 8 am. The vehicle had Mexican license plates and the experience was overall pretty shady. Would give 0 stars if possible, avoid and go with a sure bet at another location.
The hours aren’t updated. Their COVID hours are 8am to 8pm. Therefore, when I showed up at 10:30pm, no one was there to assist me. And their number is for a central office that is only open during business hours. Terrible experience. Will not be using this location.
Drove to address could not find car rental office. There are no signs saying the name of the car rental agency. I called and it was answered in Spanish I pressed number indicated for English and was on hold for several minutes and nobody ever picked up phone.
I generally love Hertz, but they are trying my patience this time. The girl at the counter was fine, but they didnt have anything close to the car I reserved, and I ended up with an minivan thats going to get 2/3 of the mileage, and no actual extra room because the bikes have to go IN the van since the bike rack doesnt fit a van.And good news / bad news, I didnt think about the fact that since this location is at the border, I might end up with a car with Mexican plates and gauges in kilometers & liters. Its fine, I can convert, haha.

She refused to help in any way, told us to take a taxi to the airport and try there. Wouldn’t even try and call any other Hertz locations. Complete wast of money and time.
This experience was horrible start to finish. Do NOT rent from this Hertz directly or thru any discount travel site. This site is NOT affiliated with any other Hertz, PLUS they are based in Mexico, therefore you CAN NOT get any support. The desk does not answer the phone with any questions so if you need something you cant inquire with Hertz and the Mexico vranch says they cant help bc they are based in Mexico. Awful awful awful!!!! This is truly a terrible experience. Do not rent here. Rented first car honestly a POS but it ran. I shouldnt have been surprised that the battery died the same evening. We got through to the service number and they came out with another vehicle. 2nd day at dusk we find out that the lights dont work. We call service. The lady tells us that they dont believe us that they want to tell us how to turn on the lights. I ask to speak to a manager she says she cant transfer us to anyone. Well the guy who is supposed to show me how to turn on the lights never calls. Try calling back and Im on hold for hours. Still waiting.

The worst car rental ever. Rude lady at the front (marianna) possibly the most arrogant person I’ve ever dealt with in a customer service environment. I simply cannot believe such a person would work dealing with customers....the face of a business is this lady? Unhelpful, a ton of attitude, and straight up liars.....on top of everything. All the added charges....the car was a Mexican plated and Mexico only Vw virtus....all the settings were in Spanish...miles per hour non excistent...the car was in KM .....i just cant believe i was conned into renting this....

Not a good experience so far. I have a reservation to pick up a car tomorrow morning so I went to the location today to make sure the car would be ready at 6 a.m. as described by the agent.upon arriving at Hertz I was told that that location doesnt open until 8 AM. Yet they made a reservation for 6 a.m. anyway. If I had not gone by to check in advance I would be totally screwed in the morning. Now I have to pay for an extra days rental. At this point Im thinking about going toward Budget or Enterprise. Ive been using hurts for over 40 years but at this point Im thinking about making a change because their customer service has been going downhill dramatically in The past few years.
Fraud office. They stole extra 140$ from my account after i returned the car on time full in gas. I tried to call them 20 times without a response. I contacted hertz customer support and gave them all the details and they said those people are not affiliated with them. I disputed the payment but i couldn’t fill out the paperwork coz i was in Mexico when they sent it to my address.It’s better to take uber or use ANY other rental or method of transportation than dealing with those people.
Stay away from this place. They charged me with $50 USD after I transported my dog – In a kennel– and they found hair on the seat and a unpleasant smell. They never reviewed the car in my presence, before or after I dropped it off. They just sent me the bill with the $50.00 charge and other taxes they didn’t disclose when I rented. I filed a complaint on Hertz customer service but they just inquired what the problem was: This seems to be a Mexican Hertz franchise renting Mexican cars with Mexican license plates on the American side. If you arrive at CBX, take an Uber to a nearby rental car location in San Diego. BUT NEVER, EVER THERE.
Worst experience ever. I was charged for preexisting damages to vehicle, they refuse to refund me even after providing documentation that it was inspected and the damage was already there. Its now May, I rented this vehicle in December.
WORST SERVICE EVER !Got a car that did not asked for even tho I specifically ask for it and also payed the premium fee for basic car. Their front desk couldnt resolve and gave me # to call but never got any answer. Day of return, no manager was around, so they told me to call in a couple of day with the manager Luis Echeverria from Hertz, so I did and so he apologizes and in return I was going to get a extra day on my next car rental, and will email me the forms.5 months past this and heard nothing, Ive sent lots of emails to this office and THEY HAVE IGNORED ME, as for now this office is a SCAM, UNPROFESSIONAL, LIARS.I hold my comment till proven otherwise.
1 star for the cleanliness of the vehicle but everything else was a nightmare! Customer service was HORRIBLE and I have rented from places in Boston and throughout California (and have had negative experiences in some of them) but this location (Otay Mesa) was the WORST! First, the counter location lacks appropriate signage, it almost had me going to another parking lot. Its inside a terminal next to Starbucks. Then the reps are standoffish, you cant even ask them a question because mine rolled her eyes and answered in a bothered way when I took a couple of minutes to read the contract before signing it and asked her what the transaction fee was since I was asked to initial that I was ok with this additional fee. AND yes they charge a transaction fee in order to pay with a credit card which is a percentage of your cost. Then she was also annoyed (by the look on her face and tone of her voice) when directing me to where I was to pick up the car which was on the other side of the terminal (a passage way into the Tijuana border called CBX). THEN there was NO ONE at the pick-up parking lot location. I walked around in the parking lot and no one was there. When I went back to the gate area, I saw a family putting their stuff in a car one of their family members had just pulled up in. I asked them if they were in a rental car and they said yes, I asked them how I could get my car and they told me I had to do it myself just by checking the license plate. I recorded the condition of the car on my own and got inside and as Im about to drive away, a guy approaches me and tells me that he needed the slip I was given and went over the cars external condition with me. Next, I see the car has Mexican license plates!!!! I asked the attendant if this could cause an issue with my 3rd party insurance and he stated that it shouldnt because Hertz had permits to operate in the US. That did not answer my question, and did not make me feel comfortable especially since I was traveling to Arizona (not the ideal place to be driving with Mexican license plates!!). And then to top it off, the odometer was in kilometers which I am not familiar with and signage in the US do not post in this metric system so driving like this is not only dangerous but annoying. You def need an app on your phone for the conversion on at ALL or youll either be driving too slow or too fast. When I returned the car, there was no attendant once again. I waited in the long line to return the keys since they dont have a drop off box and no one inspected the condition of the car. I was not given a copy of my receipt either. Beware that there is also an airport fee even though the airport is in Mexico. The car was really clean with just some minor scratches in the exterior and it did get me to and from Phoenix Arizona with no mechanical issues so Im grateful for that but I cannot stress how important it is to know that the vehicles in this location have Mexican license plates. Make sure that your 3rd party insurance covers this type of rental and also note that you might be forced to drive with an odometer that only reads in kilometers so youll be responsible for the conversion. The Maps app was helpful once I enabled the current mileage reader on my settings.
I rented a car from Hertz Cross Border X, thinking it was going to be cheaper than uber. I would not recommend it to anybody. They tell you they are American company but give you a cheaper car with Mexican License plates, force you to pay an insurance and retain between $200 - $500 depending on the insurance plan you are forced to pick. It takes up to a month for you to get your deposit back. People at the desk are not friendly nor helpful. I have a Hertz account and love the rentals I have had in the past but this particular company, NEVER AGAINHi Justin,I attempted to send an email but your website didnt let me post it. I just got a message telling me it was an invalid post.
The prices at this location are cheaper because their cars are registered in Mexico and that’s why they have Mexican license plates. Since their cars are registered in Mexico the US insurance won’t cover so you will have to add the insurance they have there and the amounts are between $20-$35 per day plus the price for the rental car itself also they place a hold on your credit card between $300-$500 depending on which coverage you selected. You will end up paying almost double of your original price. I recently booked a car and the original amount was almost $200 and I ended up paying for the economy car $340 for 3 days. Also the car was not clean very well since I found other ppls trash in the glove compartment and underneath the seats. Now I know better and I won’t rent from here anymore.
I rented a car from the CBX - Cross border express Hertz stand and before getting the vehicle, I asked can I drop off the car in Union Station in Los Angeles? I was told No, the only place in Los Angeles is in the Airport in LAX. I said fine, lets do that. I get in the car and start driving. Come to findout there was no mileage in the cluster but KM. The radio didn’t work as none of the stations were picked up due to the FM programing that the car had. I arrived at LAX and when dropping off the car they tell me, this car has Mexican plates and needs to be dropped off where I got it from. After a few minutes, the Hertz employee tells me I can leave it but to expect a 75-100+ dollar charge because of this. He wasn’t able to find a number for the place that I originally got the car from and finally he tells me He will try to contact them tomorrow. This is the worst experience that I have doubted with when renting a car. First, the daily price was already at $150/day for a none premium car. Then an additional $75-100 more for a mistake that the Hertz employee made. I haven’t received an email with the original receipt and now I believe that she inputted my information incorrectly in the system too. This maybe the last time I rent a car from Hertz due to this huge headache.to make things worse, gas is at an all time high and I was given a car with half a tank, when i returned it, i nearly filled the tank up. They are quick to charge all these fees and penalties yet wont give any refunds when they are due.

We left an apple computer in the car and we send emails and try to get in touch with the people in cbx, they told us they didnt find the computer, never ever rent a car with hertz again, terrible service and no moral standards in their cbx team.
I rented a vehicle with Hertz for a weekend trip for my students. When we arrived, the vehicle we rented was not available, and no similar vehicles were available either. Our group had to wait for three hours. When a vehicle was ready, it was not comparable to the one we reserved online: we had reserved a minivan, but they only offered us a small SUV. There was not enough space for all our passengers and luggage. Furthermore, the SUV they offered us is not fuel efficient, so we will end up spending more money on gas over the course of the weekend. Finally, when reserving the vehicle, we declined the optional insurance. However, the rental agent told us that we had to buy insurance and forced us to spend additional money. They did not provide a reason for this requirement, and refused to let us decline. The entire experience was deceitful. When we attempted to contact customer service, they disconnected our call and refused to take steps to remedy the situation.
Reserved a car from the Hertz Website for this address (CBX). when I arrived and after after discussing insurance requirements, I was told that the cars have Mexican license plates and that the insurance requirements are different from those in the US. No where on the Hertz website stated that the cars at this location have Mexican plates. I probably could have rented the car and driven to Los Angeles without issue, however, I did not feel comfortable not knowing what driving Mexican registered car in the US meant in case there was an accident. Hertz should notify customers of this before accepting reservation at this locale.
Really terrible rent-a-car.I had made reservation through Hertz official website longer than 2 weeks before my travel, but when I arrived, they told me no car was available and I had to wait for 1 hour at minimum, and no idea how longer at maximum.They suggested moving to Hertz SD AP with my own cost and get an alternative rent-a-car there. I had no choice but just following it. They also told me I could still return the car to CBX, but it was a lie. Hertz SD AP said to me it was impossible because they were different (Mexican) franchise .With no promise of availability even though you have reservation, how can I recommend this rent-a-car?
All the information provided by Expedia for the car rental was wrong. The attendant was aware of it but didn’t seem to care. The cats have Mexican license plates and are Mexican models. Once there they will force you to buy insurance per day. Feel scammed

Was vacationing from Utah and needed a car for a day so I decided to go through Hotwire and end up picking this location. Big Mistake! Horrible horrible customer service! Got there to pick up the car and there were 4 employees there and had two desks One desk had a customer there and the other one had two employees right in front of the computer so I went ahead and told the guy I had a reservation he went ahead and told me to get in line and wait. While those three were there being on their phone on social media the guy was eating a burrito and the other lady was just there doing nothing just talking to the other two! There was another guy waiting in line in front of me that after about 15 min he walked off because of how long it was taking. Out of 4 employees only one was actually working. I had to wait until the girl decided to start working who by the way has no customer service! I didn’t catch her name. Just the whole transaction was very unpleasant because of the rudeness of that employee. On the other hand when I returned the car Michelle greet me with a great smile and amazing customer service all of the Hertz employees at that location can learn a thing or two from her. She was great everything went smooth and fast! If she had been there the day before I wouldn’t be here writing a bad review. Also they gave me a car with Mexican plates!! I rented a Mexican car at a US location. And had no choice to get it because that’s all they said they had. Also I had bought insurance through Hotwire which she told me since it was a third party they couldn’t take that insurance so I was forced to get insurance from them!

I rented a car by Priceline in US and they send me to something related to a Tijuana airport????? With Mexicans cars????All staff were Mexicans, and i’m ok with that! But they want to charge fees for EVERYTHING because Hertz from Mexico works “different”! BUT I BOOKED HERE IN SAN DIEGO, not in Tijuana! Do not risk your vacation with this business. Less if they offer you an offer. They will not respect it and when you arrive at your destination a tipa malencarda will tell you that they do not have your reservation and that no way, leaving you to your fate. Making you spend on things you had not planned. My advice NEVER ACCEPT AN OFFER FROM HERTZ IS A FRAUD.

I made a reservation for a specific car that went with my needs, but when I arrived at the module they explained that even though I had already done this process the system had oversold this car so they had to rent me a compact car, since they were the only ones they had available.Even if your solution was to give me a lower price for the difference in the rental car, it seems aberrant that there are complications in an international company.

I made the reservation to pick up the vehicle at 7 AMWhen I arrived to pick him up the girl who attended me, I replied that I was not ready and that when I was ready she would mark me. He did not give me an explanation, he showed zero empathy to my comments that he had a planned itinerary and that would affect me. He told me that I couldnt do anything and that she would mark me.An hour later I returned to the show, there were already three girls at the counter, and they told me that in 20 more minutes the car would be, I returned and they told me that in 30 more minutes the car would be, I returned and they told me that in 20 minutes more I would be the car. At this point I felt very frustrated, because if they had been transparent and told me that the car would be more 2 hours, I would have looked for other options to move.My itinerary was greatly affected by this, and the lack of empathy and explanations caused us to feel very frustrated.For the delivery of the car, they gave me the full formats, without being able to check the car, and they told me to look for it in the parking lot, they gave me that it was red, and the car was gray, the contract was lined with a pen where last They changed the unit at the time, but did not correct the contract correctly.They handed me the car with 2 gas lines.Upon return, we lasted 40 minutes waiting for the counter for someone to receive us. The computer was on and the drawers open, but no one showed up. In the end, a person arrived with a HERTZ badge and told us that we only left the keys, without asking us anything about the unit, and that in 20 minutes we would reach the closing of the contract by mail, more than 36 hours have passed since we delivered the car and I have not reached the closing of the contract.The unit has the problem that the address has play.I am extremely disappointed in the service received. I understand that there may be problems that delay delivery, but the staff aggravates the situation by not being honest with the times and being indifferent to the problem caused by the failure to meet the agreed appointment.I would not rent in Hertz again at that branch, and I would not recommend it to anyone.Note: The cars have Mexican license plates. They do not allow you to use the insurance provided by credit cards, and they require you to pay additional insurance when picking up the unit, regardless of how you made the reservation.

When you arrive without reservation looking for an economic car they tell you that they do not have and that they only have bigger and more expensive cars, which forces you to spend more and when you leave you can see several economic cars in your parking lot.

Bad service I booked my car several months in advance and when I arrived they gave me that there were no cars that I had to wait like 30 min; I spent an hour and they did not call me. In the end, 2 hours of waiting gave me another car that was not the one I had ordered. Look for the manager and he was not there.
APPALLING! They are some chantas. Do not rent there, the cars are terrible, they charge double what the reservation says and they take you online booking and when you get there ... they do not have cars! Every time we went we had a bad experience, but they take advantage because they are at the CBX airport and they are the only option. I recommend uber to another place and rent in another agency near the CBX because they are cheaper and decent than Hertz CBX. A shame.
I fell into a hook online promotion is not the final price which pactas and you do not specify, insurance and tax charge that is more expensive than the vehicles own income. So I do not recommend renting online, better call and clearly specify the costs, in terms of the vehicle very well !.

The worst experience in my life with renting a car. They gave me a car that apparently left a lot to be desired besides delivering it with Mexican license plates. That for being the only vehicle already available we did not haveMany options Already advanced in kilometers (quite impossible and to return by the itinerary) we realize that the brakes make noises, we tried to speak to the numbers and they did not answer, so that later we would catch the warning of the tires and realize that the 4 were in bad stateWe had to be arriving to air them (and for those who do not know at least in the state of California put air to the tires charge 1.5 dollars) obviously nothing remained but to speak to hertz USA to realize that they had no record of our reservation, Like hertz mexico in none they gave us a solution and in the cbx they still did not answer. NEVER RENT IN HERTZ NEVER !!!
WORST service experience --- I booked 4 months in advance with the car pick-up time starting at 12.00. Result, there are no cars and you have two options: 1) Wait around 4 to 10 hours to receive cars without ensuring the type of car reserved or 2) Move to San Diego (you covering costs) and rent there, without ensuring availability of cars. Additionally, the rate offered is a sham, since they add fees over the airport rate (80 usd) + license plates (25 usd). The insurances dont even talk. This office is operated by Hertz Mexico - and without being malicious, my recommendation is to rent in Hertz USA, where you will have the backing of a global company and a sense of higher quality customer service and empathy.

They charged me almost double what I was quoted. I do not know why Aeromexico makes agreements with companies that do not respect their customers .... In Hertz customer service they do not solve anything, do not waste your time and money with Hertz CBX
They take advantage of the fact that they are the only landlord that provides service after 00:00 hours. Attention and service is extremely slow and the time you save at CBX is wasted waiting in line to be treated. And, finally, when you arrive at the counter, even with online check-in, it turns out that they give you the vehicle they want. I reserved a full size and upon arrival I was surprised that they gave me a Cavalier WITH CHIHUAHUA PLATES, with half a tank of gasoline and when they claimed that this car did not correspond to the one on the reservation, they answered that for them it was Full Size and not There was another option, so you were forced to accept, otherwise you would have to go to San Diego by taxi or Uber and also at dawn. Terrible service. They give fake receipts for the service You ask (not corresponding to the car You rent) and then they CHARGE extra on Your credit card. After Renting a van for three days, We dropped the vehicle in the parking Lot and let the car keys at the mailbox as we headed for the airport. They charged another day (a fourth one) because they did not checked that the vehicle was in the parking Lot. THIEVES !!!!THEY ARE A FRAUD, they offer discounts and all they do is choke you. They give you invoices with other registered vehicles (I rented a Van, they gave me the invoice for a BMW) and they said they had an issue. They charged me the amount stipulated for THREE DAYS, which were respected in a timely manner. What will be my surprise that they made an EXTRA, UNDUE and UNAUTHORIZED charge to the card, justifying that my contract was for FOUR DAYS (which is not true). ON FRIDAY, MAY 18, 2018, they assigned a car that had not even been washed. Very dirty interiors, as well as stained. Terrible cleaning conditions. Upon my complaint, they changed my car. I was assigned a Nissan but they did not give me any additional documents.
