Long story short, I live in Los Angeles and happened to find a vehicle I was interested in purchasing in San Diego. While searching through Yelp, I happened to come upon Maverick Motorworks. Spoke with Michael and he got me all set up for a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) that same day.Upon first contact, I knew I made the right choice as he explained the process thoroughly and I was sold. Unfortunately, the report showed a ton of issues with the vehicle and Michael gave me a call explaining everything down to the last problem as well as a detailed report the following day. I was absolutely blown away as Ive never received a PPI this detailed. Saved me a headache of driving 2 hours to inspect the car myself.Fast forward to a few days later. I actually ended up finding another vehicle in San Diego yet again and it was a no-brainer; contacted Michael again and he set me up with a second PPI. This car was in absolutely better shape physically and mechanically and he couldnt stress that to me enough. He gave me another detailed report as well as his personal opinion coming from a mechanical background which did help me feel like I was making the right choice.I ultimately ended up purchasing the second vehicle and couldnt be happier! Overall, I would absolutely recommend Maverick Motorworks and have had a beyond pleasant experience with Michael. Just wish his shop was in Los Angeles as I would be more than comfortable taking my car to him for service.

Myself and my family have been coming to Mike to service our cars for many years now. Whether it was just a diagnosis or repairs, he always took great care of the cars and always does quality work. He is definitely the person you can trust for all your car needs.

I brought my truck in because I had a warning light and did not know what it meant. Mike let me know exactly what was wrong (nothing serious thankfully), took care of the problem and gave me suggestions on what else would be good to take care of. He was extremely informative and helped me understand why I might want to take care of certain issues now or if I could hold off for a bit.I will never go anywhere else because I trust him to take care of me and anyone else I send his way!

I just got my ‘84 VW Rabbit GTI checked over by Maverick Motors and (inevitably for a 37 year old car) some work was needed. I couldn’t be happier with my experience, Michael (the owner) took care in every detail and was extremely communicative and transparent about everything that was done at every step. These guys just love cars which is a huge plus if your asking someone to work on a car that you love. I just picked it up and the results are clear in how much better it drives. 100% recommend.

Was extremely satisfied with the work, and services provided by Maverick! I was looking for somebody in Sandiego proper that could help me with some special projects on a 2015 Subaru WRX i had purchased used. After meeting Michael through a mutual friend, and he mentioned building himself a previous generation of WRX, so i felt comfortable working with him on the project. I would say he is a jack of all vehicles having vehicles from American classic cars, to newer JDM turbo projects he seems to do it all! Very responsive personal service, and always appreciated him discussing the available options with any changes or repairs to the vehicle and was very satisfied with the final results! Michael did an amazing detail on my car and a very thorough and complete inspection. He is very good at explaining what issues you might need to address right away and what things can wait but will eventually need to be fixed. He’s very honest and fair and doesn’t try to push anything on you like many other mechanics tend to do. He also has a loaner car he can offer sometimes while he’s working on your car which is super helpful if it’s your only car and don’t have a way to get around while your car is in the shop! Overall super great experience, would totally recommend!!!

Define regret & swindled. My story: On 15SEP20 I had my MK4 GTI towed to Michael at Maverick Motorworks & what followed was a 36-day sideshow that would result in an almost $2000 bill. My 1st diagnostic was that my ECU was blown. Michael “found” a replacement & installed it (02OCT) with a story of just how difficult this was. Surprise when 10-days later (12OCT) I get my next message that it wasn’t the ECU after all & how it has been magically replaced but how the $800 cost should be given to a “wizard” worker of his for the “hours” of testing he has done. Next diagnostic is that the wiring harness needs splicing & dicing & a bunch of more billable hours for more testing. Turns out a part I need is from a dealer with “the last one in the Country”. The red flags that came out of Michael’s mouth throughout this ordeal should have told me something. Finally, on 21OCT I get told to come in for my pickup & instead of the cool/collected Michael I had talked to before I meetup with a stuttering/ nervous Michael that is standoffish & eager to downplay the “countless hours” of testing that now makes up 75% of my bill. I repeat, actual parts make up 25% of the bill while the rest is now some clever wordplay explaining $1200 of “diagnostics labor”.Michael acts nice & is good for conversation. As soon as he realized I was a veteran he mentioned how he works with the local military. I truly hope Michael is not preying among the young, enlisted population that live so close. Shame on him, times are tough right now & we all need to get paid but this “job” he pulled was not cool. Most of his positive reviews are years old or for inspections, whats happened since? Should have done my due diligence. I don’t write reviews, but wow did he earn this one.

After a stroke of coincidence, I had the pleasure of working with Michael in concerns of my Vovlo. To immediate surprise he had an expert level of knowledge on them and managed to identify the issue very quickly. Upon this, he had an immediate plan as to solving the issue in the most cost effective manner possible and kept me knowledgeable on process the entire time. He had and has my full confidence/trust in his abilities and will be my go to guy for Volvos for now on.

He is genuine and honest about what services are needed immediately and which ones can wait, which of course exceeds expectations. He takes the care to inspect the cars problems from start to finish as if it was his own car: from initial evaluations and testing all the way through to providing well-detailed invoices and notes at the end.Took in my 2005 Honda Civic to fix a few things including shocks, struts and check engine light and thanks to Michael my car is running much more smoothly and should last quite a bit longer!

I have been to Maverick Motorworks for years. Michael is very attentive to his business and Im glad I went to him. While I was waiting, he was constantly on the phone helping a multitude of customers from what sounded like an an extremely diverse set of situations.They can do most things related to auto repair, and you can call to confirm. Very fair price and has excellent knowledge around his profession. There are just so many little things that can go wrong with a car its hard to keep up, but I felt no hesitation in knowledge with him regarding all the questions I had asked.Michael is extremely trustworthy and never tried to ripped me off and I highly recommend Maverick Motorworks for all your car maintenance needs. I called Mike yesterday morning after finding him on Yelp to see if he could diagnose my car concern. I dropped it off later in the afternoon and chatted with him more about the issues I was having. He had a clear understanding of the problem even after my very poor attempt of explaining what was going on, so I felt comfortable from the beginning.Mike called me an hour or so after I dropped it off with his analysis, how much it would cost, and the approximate amount of time it would take to fix it. I okayed the repairs and he called me again this morning inquiring about the last time I had an oil change. Since I had been putting the change off for a couple of weeks, I was more than happy to have him take care of that, as well. Once again, he gave me a price and I accepted.When I went to pick my car up this afternoon, Mike explained what he did and gave me an itemized copy of the bill. I feel that I got a fair price and quality work. As soon as I drove my car away, I could feel the difference and was relieved.Mike also pointed out the other concerns he found with my car (ultimately that its in great shape, just a couple of minor things), I really appreciated the honesty. Ive found my new mechanic, though I must say I hope I dont have to visit him too often.

Mike the Mechanic at Maverick Motorworks is by far the best mechanic or general car maintenance professional I have ever dealt with and Ive been going to him for years. I know so little about cars and car care Im often skeptical about who to trust and what actually needs to be done to my car. Mike is so honest and trustworthy I always feel like I know exactly what is going on with my car. After oil changes, 30k maintenance checkups, etc he always gives me an update as to what will need to be replaced/maintained in the future, including how many more miles I can go before that service is REALLY needed, which is incredibly helpful to plan for financially. He also works with other services such as tire shops, doing all work for you to find the tires for your car and can get great rates through deals he has with those companies. I called Mike one morning needing him to patch a tire today, and he told me to come on down in in hour and got it done in 20 minutes! Quality work at an affordable price, and customer service that is unmatched.... I recommend Maverick Motorworks to all my friends in San Diego!*They also have connections with local car rental companies and can hook you up if you need a rental while theyre working on your car!

Very friendly, quick, and most importantly honest service. All I needed was an oil change but also fixed my door panel for no charge. Deffinantly not going anywhere else.
