Amazing experience. This place is so friendly and communicative and honest I can’t say enough great things about this place. I originally took my Toyota to Kearny Mesa Toyota Services Center only to have them say it was a head gasket and they were going to inspect further. They wanted to charge me $6000 and not really know what the issue is. A friend recommended this place toMe And I can’t say enough great things. They contact me when they need it to look further to be able to diagnose actual problem, which did cost a little bit extra.They were very clear that it would be Two hours of labor to diagnose the issue rather than one, and I approved it. It ended up being lifters that needed to be replaced and cost $1500 and not the 6000 that Kearny Mesa Toyota quoted. They also tested my head gasket and said they could not find any issues with it in the van should be good to go

Japanese Carmasters are excellent! They are accommodating and will usually get you in for a non-emergency within a week (in contrast to our experiences with the dealerships that often have a backlog of many weeks) and will take your car right away when needed. They are thorough and give you a fair price.Most importantly, they are honest! There have been 2 separate instances where we took our car to a dealership and work for thousands of dollars was recommended and they checked our car and found that some parts of the outrageous estimate were unnecessary.Definitely give them a try and the charge for their time for the estimate is worth it and you will likely have them do the work!!

She knows everything about my car and truck and if I dont understand she will explain it too me until I fully understand. She is very patient and always has a smile and something Positive to say. Amazing service. Hard to trust just anyone when it comes to costly auto repair but These guys are honest helpful and a wonderful addition to the San Diego small business community. April even Showed me some simulations on the computer of what my car was experiencing as well as help me with a very easy and inexpensive financing option that made it possible for me to fix my car properly.

There’s nothing this man can’t fix in a day. Every time i drop off my vehicle, whether it’s European or Japanese, Jeff has it all fixed within the day at the cheapest prices i could ask for. When i arrive the new parts are factory fresh and installed correctly. There’s nothing i appreciate more than someone doing an honest job.

Weve been coming here for our cars for a few years now. They still understand what SERVICE is supposed to be. Great follow up, explanations are always precise and understandable. They wont sell you anything you wont need and they give a great list of priorities. This auto center is awesome. They took in my car at the end of the day and still found time to diagnose it and find the needed part. Great service! The whole experience was very pleasant. Since my first contact with Jeff on the phone until the day I picked up the car. They are very friendly, professional, fast, accommodating and not pushy!!! They ran an inspection on my car and gave me the diagnostic, but never insisted to have the job done. Just as a recommendation. I cant really say if the price is right, because I did not check other places. I would say that they are honest and fair.Ill definitely take my car back to them when needed.

I have a 2013 a Subaru with over 140k miles. With a higher mileage car, I needed a repair shop that wouldnt overcharge me on routine repairs. JCM provides that and more. I had this check engine light for my 03 350z that I couldn’t figure out the source of. I brought it to Japanese Car Masters and they diagnosed it in two days. Incredible service at a reasonable price, would highly recommend. These people know what they are doing. April is very helpful and was patient with all of my questions, and the mechanics are very professional and knowledgeable. In addition, one of my quick release bumper tie bands broke and they replaced it for free, didn’t even have to ask. Will definitely be going back if I need anything else. Thanks guys!

J-Carmasters provided quality service at a reasonable price. My Miata had several hard to diagnose problems that they fixed, with only a little trial and error, and they saved us money. Car runs much better now, Were happy!

Honest, reliable, responsive and friendly and they do great work; what more could you ask for? It’s amazing helpful that they give me a ‘forecast’ of what to expect down the line for my Honda. “This could happen in 3 months if you notice this noise based on what we saw. I had an appointment for an alignment for my wifes RDX on a Friday morning. Fred who was working in the office was super friendly and knows how to give great customer service. The whole process took about 30-40 minutes which was great. The prices here and the service were both fantastic. Ill be back the next time I need anything done for our vehicles.

Came in for a wheel alignment for my CX-9. Scheduling an appointment online was easy and received a friendly email from Jeff soon after. Service appointment went well and I like how Jeff is very approachable and provides all of the details you need about the service with no gimmicks or hard sell. A great place to keep in mind for your car needs.

Amazing service, great staff, competitive prices. I am always hesitant to bring my cars in to repair shops, youve heard the horror stories: Horrible service, overcharged, tried to up sell, None of that occurred in the numerous times that I have brought my vehicle to Japanese. They have always treated me with the utmost respect, made me feel like a person not a moron who knows nothing about cars. Larry the manager, and manny the service tech told me upfront what the cost would be, ended up being a little cheaper, but, I wouldve paid the original quote I was that satisfied with the service, Definitely bringing my car back when needed. Japanese has earned a customer for life.

I had a very bad experience with Japanese Carmasters/JCM (unfair price for a simple job and very poor communication).My Corolla stopped working in a highway and AAA took my car to JCM. Upon inspection (cost $100, which I am not sure it was properly communicated), we received a quote for 4 spark plugs and 2 ignition coils replacement for $670 (way high for such a simple job). Since we were busy that day we were not able to take care of the car immediately. Next day, I called few other shops to get few quotes. I found a quote for $100 (where I provided the parts= $280) and decided to move my car. When arrived at JCM, my car was open but not fixed, even though I did not ask them to fix my car or keep my car open. So had to wait for my car to be ready. I agree with other reviewer that JCM has significant lack of communication (they make assumptions rather than communicating with customer). They will open your car for service with out you authorizing such (or at least informing you that your car is open). It also appears that they are not honest, when I calld 2nd day for quote detail, she just gave me overall price and kept saying including taxes. I asked April if she can give me a better quote and she said no. When walked in to take my car, some guy (maybe manager) told me oh if you had issue with the quote you should have let us know (in front of April who earlier said no she cant give me a better price).Three lessons to share:1) I think they have serious communication issue (they open your car without your permission). They expect you to know that without letting you know.2) I think they are not very upfront with charges. They dont share the details. Which is not great.3) always get the detail of the problem can get few quotes, before committing to one.

I brought in two cars to this place, Camaro and Lexus, for inspection. I also authorized an oil change on my Camaro. They were very kind to drop me and my wife off at our home nearby.They did a good job on the inspection - very thorough. They called me and gave me a verbal inspection report for both cars along with a price quote for each recommended service. They also told me that my Camaro engine oil looked good and didnt need to be changed.Unfortunately, their price quote was a bit too expensive for my meager budget and I decided to go with someone else. So I asked them to put my cars together so that I can whisk them away.When I went there to collect my cars, I had a bad experience -- They had not clearly communicated to me in advance that their inspection service was not free. I was mislead by their report which said complementary inspection. I am not upset about the inspection charge, but the lack of communication.- I was charged for an oil change in the Camaro despite being told I didnt need one. When I confronted them about this, they said that I had authorized it. Although I can understand that I had indeed authorized it, it bothers me that they refused to acknowledge what they had communicated to me earlier that they deemed an oil change unnecessary, instead insisting that the communication may have been for the Lexus and that I had authorized it for the Camaro. (I got two separate calls from them, one for each car - so there was no mix up in communication)- I drove the Camaro straight to the other auto shop. The guy told me that the battery was dead and he had to jump start the car in order to move/work on it. Perhaps this may have been a coincidence or a side effect of their labor.- I went back to grab my Lexus. When I adjusted the driver car seat, it now makes a horrible squealing/squeaking noise. I checked under the seat to ensure nothing was caught in it. I walked in to talk to JCM about the carseat situation. I explained that I had handed them my Lexus with perfectly working seat and now its wonky. They told me that they havent touched the seat and they implied that well have to commission them to inspect the seat. Again it bothers me that they did not clearly communicate but implied the seat inspection instead. Perhaps this was not their doing and just another side effect of their labor. It bothers me that they didnt even step outside to the car to take a look at the problem.Conclusion -- There definitely seems to be a lack of communication from JCM. They need give the job details and pricing up front. Otherwise, now I perceive them as shady.- There have been far too many coincidences during my dealing with them. This can only be explained in two ways - either they deliberately sabotaged my vehicles which is very unlikely; or more likely, they have done a sloppy job with their administrations on my car which caused these side effects to manifest.My advice - Be cautious!

This repair shop is THE BEST Ive ever had my cars serviced at in my life. They are honest, professional, highly experienced, and price is reasonable. My recommendation: if you have some simple needs, such as an oil change or replace a battery, etc., you dont have to go to this shop. However, in case the problem is a little complicated or pricy, then, most positively, give the Carmasters a try.I had my Nissan Maxima recently serviced at the Nissan Dealership for a fairly complicated smog issue, the Dealer wasnt able to correctly diagnosis the issue. Carmasters got it fixed within a very reasonable time frame and charged much less than what the Dealer had quoted for me

Honestly the worst service I have ever had. My car was in this shop for about 2 1/2 weeks. First off let me say that I had to bring my car back 3 separate times before it was even drivable. Second, it is currently about 2 weeks after I drove my car off the lot and it is no longer in a drivable state. I truly feel like I was taken advantage of. I recommend that anybody who has car problems in this area do everything to avoid this shop. I am currently out over $1,650 and my car is barely drivable. BEWARE!

There seems to be a shortage of reasonably priced yet reputable mechanics so needless to say Im so glad I found this place! I can finally say Ive found one of the few that breaks the mold as Jeff, Fred, and Steve are an experienced and honest group of guys.Ive been here three times now and each time has been just what youd expect from a reputable shop. My S2000 was in need of fluid changes (engine oil, transmission, differential, and brake fluid) and Steve got it all done within the promised timeframe. The second time back was for CV boot replacements on the 4Runner which Fred helped me find the most cost effective option for the short and long term. The third time, Jeff and Steve were fixing a botched job from another shop. Ive watched them work and they take care of your car like its their own. This is my go to shop from here on out.

I fell for the classic bait and switch. I told them exactly what I needed and they jacked up the labor charge for a new tailight & O2 sensor to turn the check engine & tailight warning light off. I was told it was going to be one price, but it ended up being $100 more than what I was quoted over the phone when I authorized the work. Seriously, it cost me nearly $400 for a tailight and a O2 sensor that I may not even needed. My sensor lights are now off, but I think it should have been half as much for the services performed. I wont go back again.

New to San Diego, have 2008 BMW z. took car to the dealer, had problem with transmission. They said I needed a new transmission at a cost of over $5000!Japanese CarMasters was recommended by a co-worker at QUALCOMM. Took my car there. they checked it and found the problem was a sensor, fixed it for $125 dollars in about 2 hours. Manager, Larry was very professional, and the head mechanic Alex, really knows what he is doing. I give them 5 stars for fast and HONEST work.

Owner Jeff is very knowledgable of mechanics, as well as his staff of mechanics that know a great amount about the work they do. The VERY BEST PRICE. JCM uses quality Japanese parts, and at virtually cost prices. There are some reviews that post negative remarks however, I did not experience those types of behavior during my visits here. Upfront and legitimate describe this business.

Do not trust these guys with your car at all. I had them work on my car to replace an issue, and they neglected to inform me of a transmission leak and I burned out my transmission. The mechanic failed to install of the parts of my car back on after repairing my car in the first place.
