This is a very nice gym with a lot of equipment and lots of plates and dumbbells plus the have Spin classes. One of the really cool things they have swim classes for youngsters. They also have lockers in case you want to change in the gum. Best part it is very clean.
I have an elderly client who had a senior membership she wanted to cancel when COVID started. She was told she would have to come in to do it, but the place closed. Sooo...... A year later and a few hundred $$$ Im feed she shouldnt have had to spend, we finally got it closed. It is ridiculous to make an 81 year old come in to close her account putting her at risk. What if she wasnt mobile? Were they just going to charge her until she died???
My 74 year old mother-in-law and my 16 month old son both enjoy utilizing the pool during family swim. The water has a low impact for moms arthritis, so she is able to move around and implement exercise she has learned at physical therapy. My toddler is still new to the pool scene and enjoys watching Grandma and other kiddos work out and play. Hes learning by example. The best part of it all is that my family is safe because there are multiple lifeguards on duty at the Y 🎉.
I’m kind of obsessed with Ava and her amazing Yoga Flow class! She is the absolute best! I always leave feeling completely refreshed! I never want to miss a single class! Thank you Ava!!!
We are not members so I cant comment on that aspect but we did complete 4 sessions of private swim lessons for my daughter. First, they were extremely accommodating when I could not make the first lesson unexpectedly due to a family emergency and they allowed a make-up date on an alternative day. Second, Jacob was my daughters swim instructor and he was incredibly patient, nice, and kind. She has learning disabilities which can be tough to navigate but he was so good with her and by the final session she had so many more swimming and water safety skills than she had when we started. I would recommend this Y for swim lessons.
The staff at this YMCA are incredibly friendly. Have interacted with the staff at the front desk, weight area, and pool area. Lifeguards are attentive and friendly. Love that we can make reservations for the pool and various classes on the app. Makes seeing what is available easy. Looking forward to taking more classes here in the future.
I love the staff and the cleanliness of these facilities. It gets a little busy in the mornings, but we havent had too many issues getting the machines we want. Great place to work out!
Not crowded and was able to get in and out with no waiting.
Nice place. I am a new member, it would have been nice to be shown around. I was pointed in the right direction and was on my own. I did not feel very welcome.
Took my mom yesterday to sign up, the girl at the front desk no help. Kept tell us the medical is we had, they don’t use, until she was proven wrong. Seemed like she barely wanted to help or was lazy at her job.
Wonderful clean facilities, excellent staff, and massive giving hearts! Sharing their pool and people with the community and helping lend space to The Miss Tristan Foundation to give swimming lessons to young children and spread drowning awareness and work towards drowning prevention! Awesome place! Love all the San Antonio YMCA’s but we just spent a full day here and I felt they deserved a special mention for being so great!
Very thankful for the Tiny Dancers class. My daughter had a wonderful time. Thank you. 🩰 Dance Teacher is excellent.
I was a part of the Healthy Living group online and it helped me go concentrate on my well-being. Now that I am able to come back in person I feel so much confidence in my efforts!
Our son is on the Sharks team. Their Coach this last year is very professional and knowledgeable. He watches each student and gives them pertinent feedback! I pray he doesn’t go anywhere soon. Our son has grown so much!
This gym is good for strictly working out when it comes to the basketball aspect it is definitely not the same, they usually have kids club using half the court which Is honestly horrible I know gyms like LA fitness use the basketball court only for BASKETBALL like how it should be.Another thing is the way they have maintenance is horrible aswell they close the gym for the whole day and the outside courts.
Great pool facilities and swim instructors. My kids loved taking swim lessons here.
Terrible customer service, I ask if they had anyone that speak Spanish and Susana or Susan told me she speaks a little bit Spanish so I started talking to her and then she just hang up the phone, I call back more then 7 times, thinking we may got disconnected but no she kept sending my call back to the main menu, so I call from another phone and boom there she go answering the phone all fresh. That is bad customer service, if you say you speak a little bit of a language that a person ask and is easier to communicate and you not willing to help or you cant really speak it good enough just be honest, but that is very unprofessional to just hang up the phone on peoples face.Picture for Attention!!!
Excellent facilities, competent staff, outstanding programs. They do not charge enough for what a membership provides.. especially if you are going to ever use their childcare! Would give 10 stars if possible.
Attention San Antonio YMCA Corporate Office,First, I need it to be known that I am not a fan of publishing grievances of any kind on a public forum or social media platform. And as a matter of fact, this is my very first review of a business ever. My only regret is that it isn’t a positive review. But I have no choice since I can’t seem to be able to talk to a real person when I called a few your many numbers. My family and I have been members of the YMCA for many years and never had any issues. However, this year, there seems to be a serious communication problem. We registered our child for one of the sports programs like usual. Then we received our notice of the team we were going to be on and also received the schedule. That same email also indicated that this team did not have a coach and that they were looking for a volunteer. So I decided I would step up and volunteer. Since then, I have called multiple times, and if I don’t get disconnected, I’m on hold endlessly. The person that is supposed to call me back hasn’t and there has been more than enough time for my call to be returned. When I found out that the person I needed to speak to is at the corporate office, I called, attempting to speak to the person there, only to be asked by another machine to send an email or leave a message. What ever happened to having a conversation with an actual person? I can’t help but feel that if I would have said I wanted to make a generous donation, that someone would have called me back by now. But I didn’t and so here we are, the day before our first practice of the season and we still don’t know if we have a coach.**UPDATE***Within about an hour and a half of posting this review, I was contacted by a real person!!Thank you YMCA
I love the YMCA. Great family place and friendly workers and patrons. I believe there is something for almost all interests from cooking to swimming and exercise.
The yoga and zumba classes are fun to do.
Great customer service. Child care staff is great. Much better than golds and world gym
This Potranco YMCA comes with the most welcoming and kind staff. Especially,Coach James Spain the previous Sports director has gone above and beyond for my kids and others. My children are in the little kickers class and I have a very active and easily distracted little 4 year old who can be disruptive at times. James is very kind to the children, engaging and finds ways to get even the easily distracted kids to have fun in the game. He gave my son a little fidget toy to help him be able to participate without getting so distracted. It really did help and it was so kind to spend his own money on caring for the kids. He get down to the children’s level and finds the best ways to teach. You can really tell how passionate he is about kids sports. He has definitely had to have had lots of experience in this. I feel my son’s life is changed by the positive impact by Coach James. I’m truly grateful and the other parents feel the same way. Another mom (of 7 children) on the little kickers team said “He is the absolute best coach I have ever met”.I feel the same way! My kids look forward to learning from this coach more than any other person. Thanks coach James for making the kids feel valued and for helping them learn wonderful skills in sports!
So when I thought of joining the YMCA I thought back to the days when I was a kid and when you went to the YMCA there was board gains with little wooden pieces and things like that.. they had organized sports but thats about it.. well coming here is amazing! the gym has all the equipment that you could need There are tons of classes for the kids and is also a library in the same building...when you go to the gym and you wanna have your kids stay in the play area its nice to see that the people theyre taken care of them and actually interact and do projects and things with them to keep them entertained... my kids have already signed up for some other programs that they have there and its great because you get a discount for being a member.. they also have parents night out at least twice a month so that is a definite welcome feature... btw When you go in ask about a corporate discount off your monthly membership they have tons of them...
Great place to workout.Always clean and organized.Pool is clean with great lifeguards.
I absolutely love the mays Family YMCA. Ive been coming here off and on for about four years and the staff is wonderful! They really do care and treat you like family!
I actually went to the library inside the gym.The librarian was very helpful.
The ymca is family oriented! Very clean and people are friendly.
Your kitchen is a wonderful resource for the community and you are making the most of it with what you offer. I signed up for the Saturday series of cooking classes that you have partnered with ChefSA to offer. I take my granddaughters ages 9 and 10. I am driving many long miles from downtown to Garden Ridge to Potranco to take them. It is a great class-well worth all the driving! I wish it was available at all the Ys.
THE BEST PLACE THEY HAVE SO MANY ACTIVIDADES FOR THE KIDS FOR ALL MENBERS IN THE FAMILY
They check everyones temp going in, nice clean family facility. Signed my nephew up for flag football. Give them a try.
Great facility. Super friendly people. Very welcoming. The equipment is nice and everthing is kept very sanitary. Good assortment of machines and free weights.
Library inside location. My kids enjoy going for the library. I like the space on the work out floor.
Great place to work out, clean and great staff.
I got to try kickboxing and Mariah was very nice and explained me everything even I was doing wrongly some times she was very nice and always was waching me for correctly I do working out . I never have kickboxing before . Is fun work out . I wish I could leave 10 star’s this much I like it with her working out. ThankYou Mariah
Great staff! Plenty of exercise equip, classes, and programs!
Stuff is amazing, very helpful and friendly. Instructors are the best!
10/6/2020 UpdateThis location is usually 5* for me but after my latest visit I saw people not wearing masks so I had to ask the staff are masks not required now and was told not while actively working out. This directly contradicts their website which they need to update and let people know. I couldnt get out of there fast enough. To each his own but I feel like their actual mask policy should be posted .love the Y but I guess Im back to my virtual workouts for now.
We were renting the baseball fields at this location and, were kicked off for having a scrimmage. The night janitor James who was higher than a kite accused us of trying to run a league out of the facility and, then said you cant take McDonalds to Burger King(very unprofessional and condescending). I informed him that we were just practicing and played in a sanctioned league already. He then was involved in a seperate altercation having pushed one of our team parents after speaking with them very rudely. A very bad experience after having rented from them for around 2 months and, paying their expensive $50 an hour rental fee.
Very clean,people helpful, beautiful place!
My family loves this gym, there is something for everyone. The facilities are clean and well organized. My kids love it and it gives me some personal care time. Thank you YMCA
My family and I have been coming here since it opened. We love the programs offered, the facility and equipment is well cared for and the staff is unbelievable! Getting a membership here was one of the best decisions Ive made for my family.
Front desk receptionists very friendly, and knowledgeable and patient with me.
Looks great from the outside, staff are friendly but have little knowledge of the fitness equipment. Gym floor is absolutely disgusting. Im not sure if they ever mop it (is guess not) but you can easily see grime and dried sweat and dirt all over the hard floor area, no idea how disgusting the carpeted area would be if tested. Equipment looks very old, Im guessing from an older location and moved here when this location opened.Sadly a lot of good weights and equipment are locked up due to inconsistent covid precautions at this location compared with other locations.
So far so good, I’ve been re-signed up for about a week back at the Y off potranco. Safety guidelines are in full force. As I only go early AM I’ve only been able to speak with Richard at the front desk who is nothing but helpful and friendly. He’s got a great demeanor to him that’s not over the top and In your face..thank God (Proverbs 27:14)No complaints on staff or fellow gym goers. Looking forward to loosing some COVID pounds and getting some legit muscle weight back! Thanks YMCA
Love going back to workout and bring with great company of friends
To expensive, need to make reservations for everything, pool, yoga, basketball etc.
Go to this gym every morning and never had a problem, they have everything you need wether you’re trying to lose or gain weight or add muscle. The staff has never given me a problem and they’re always very nice and friendly.
Im a swimmer. The best thing I LOVE about Mays Family Y is they cater to people who have tough work schedules being open till 9pm on week days and open 1-5 SUNDAYS (unheard of). I wish they would go back to staying open til 7pm on Saturdays because i get off work at 5pm, but I am not complaining. I am thankful for the hours they do have open. Great life guards, great atmosphere. I get my best prayers and my best cries (for strength) underwater at Mays Family Y. You are great therapy for me. 🥰
It is a welcoming place, due to being isolated for a while it is good to get out and work out and feel safe . It seems that all the staff have your wellness and safety in mind and follow all the guidelines to promote it. I truly enjoy the water classes, Hopefully they will be able to offer more soon . Water walking is great as well as the Aqua Zumba being my favorite. It truly will get your cardio up !
Its a great gym. The weight machines and free weights area have innumerable options and there are some amazing cardio machines Id never seen before. Its clean, the staff was super helpful to me my first day there giving me a tour and answering all my questions about how working out works in a covid world and its just great to be back in a gym!
Very fun for even the youngest 3-4 year olds. Great way to socialize and affordable. Very nice facility.
I love this gym, staff is friendly and welcoming. And most members will treat you with respect and kindness.
Great place they have a library they have athletic classes weights an indoor lap pool and indoor heat swimming pool. The place is always clean. Staff is extremely nice and helpful. Restrooms are clean. Its a good fun safe environment and they offer even more than I posted. So stop by and check it out for yourself hope to see you there.
Only in town for three days,,, but had to fill out a pile of forms and wait for 20 minutes... need to have an abbreviated way to handle members who are just passing through the area.
Everything was clean and I saw an employee cleaning all the machines good job.
My only critic is add more early morning classes 😊
We used to rent the field on a regular basis. Last time, they didnt let us practice/play a scrimmage because the boys were all in uniform (+ opposing team) and somehow its no OK to do that. Insurance, blah blah blah. 25 kids had to walk off the field or have the lights shut off on them. 25 families wasted their time and we had 25 very disappointed kids.
I love the fact that its affordable and somewhat family oriented. However when it comes to finding a personal trainer. I feel like i was judged. The personal trainer that i spoke with, was more concerned on if i needed one now or if i was looking to get a free trial. Because of my response, she seems like she was not interested.
The YMCA at Potranco is a well maintained, friendly place to be active and achieve your personal goals. The classes are at your own pace but can also be really challenging for those who are more advanced. For people with children, you don’t have to worry about leaving your kids at the childcare. The staff are so kind, patient, and caring. There are youth programs for the older kids ages 3 and up. They just added a youth baseball field and soccer field for their outdoor sports! I recommend the Y at Potranco to anyone!
I love the Y! I have twin 5yr old and cant always make it at the designated hours for kids watch but the Y has their gym set up that it makes it kids friendly! A T.V. with couches that move for them to lounge at, in eyes watch of your workout. The Y also has all the equipment I need to do my workouts so this is my choice as a kind of #fitmommy
Friendly and nice!!
Temps. taken, mask worn, & its a nice clean place to watch my grand-daughter play. We lost tho. LOL
The swimming coach (Iris) is out of this world amazing. She strikes a tone that motivates and encourages while being firm. Kids gain stamina along with learning their strokes and breathing techniques. After going with another company for several months before coming to Iriss class, theres no one else I would ever recommend.
Josie S is an amazing energetic cycle instructor!! She can pump up a class in seconds! She pushes you to do more! You know she throws an awesome class when people try to get there like 30mins before class, because it gets full very fast! You’re the best!Thank you Josie!
Clean! Great indoor pool for swimming laps.
The atmosphere is great. There’s plenty of room to workout and lots of exercise machines. The child watch attendants are amazing. I don’t know how they do it. The locker rooms are big and plenty of showers. There’s lots to do there and they have gym and pool. Also, you can sign your kid up for different activities. I plan to sign my daughter up for swim lessons.
I love this place. I get my zumba and water aerobics exercise here.
I started attending the Mays YMCA after the re-opening of fitness centers. The staff are very hospitable and full of smiles. There are plenty of free weights, machine weights, and cardio machines to meet your needs. They ensure all equipment is wiped and cleaned.
My visits to the Mays Family YMCA at Potranco have been tremendous. Staff members are always professional and knowledgeable regarding the sponsored activities. The facility is well maintained unlike some other fitness/activity facilities Ive encountered. Thanks for your continued support.
Walked thru facility to check it out. Very clean. Lots of work out equipment. Friendly receptionist.
Love the gym its clean and they allow my daughter to use workout equip
I walked in a man with a mission to work out, and I left accomplished. The two service desk representatives wish me luck in todays work out venture as a trainer coached me through my days activities as if I was the most important person in their life. As I was leaving the organization a woman handed me $200, and told me to keep faith in the Lord. I told her The Word is the word, and left shortly after.
Could not have asked for a better gym. Friendly staff, great classes, employees greet members by name (shoutout to Trevor). I used this gym my last 6 months in town, all the way until my last day. Made San Antonio much more enjoyable. Members practice great gym etiquette with their weights and sanitization of equipment. Locker rooms were clean. Overall a great experience.
Family friendly, awesome childcare
Micheal lopez n anthony cavasos all anthonys r unique btW anyhow the 2 make the experience exciting n fun much passion between the 2 lots a good times n memories rokkn out with boyZ
Absolutely wonderful! The staff is friendly and always ready to help with any questions. Love the arrangement of the equipment and the variety of classes available early morning and late evening! I love my membership.
The kids and I love it
Not enough parking and too many people go there and dont pay there dues.
Kind people, great coaches and good athletes. We had wonderful experiences with the Mays YMCA. They have an indoor pool that works great for winter swim lessons and they also have a library, which is pretty cool. I just wish that we lived closer so we could be more involved in this YMCA.
My daughters went here for swimming lessons. They have indoor pools with bathrooms. The bathrooms are always clean and cleaners are always cleaning right after they are used. This place doesn’t have hair dryers but you can always carry your own. They have a great gym and other facilities. If you work for NISD they give a good discount on membership.
YMCA on Potranco is one of the cleanest gyms Ive been to. The machines are always in working order. There is usually never a wait for a machine to open up. The locker rooms are spacious and clean as well. Location and parking are great too.
Good basketball court and kids club is great and the snake pit is good me my mom and dad always go in there to work out
Great for parents who want to get their kids active, get themselves in shape, and on top of that not have to worry if your child is okay while youre working out. My child never wants to leave their kids club! My mother had me in the YMCA as a child and now I pass that torch to my child so she can enjoy it as well! Great location. My location, Mays YMCA!
Great place to visit. Cant wait to go back when it is not scorching hot outside. The rangers are all very knowledgeable & helpful. Its a must see.
Staff is friendly and helpful its in a convenient part of town also has a library. This is all of course before Colbert 19 so hopefully they open up any day now
Nice place
This is the best YMCA Ive been to. The staff is always helpful, they have a lot of diverse classes and there is childcare. Getting a membership here was a great decision for our family.
Clean, fun, safe, and they have great staff.
The Mays YMCA is one of the best facilities I have had the pleasure to be a part of. The equipment is well taken care of and the personnel working there are friendly and helpful. I would readily endorse membership there.
Classes are great!!! Location is easy to get in and out off. You can take kids to library while there.Everything looks nice. I like that cardio equipment is on second level away from weights and machines
I absolutely love this place! The staff we have dealt with are all kind, supportive and understanding. I have a special needs daughter that loves everyone there; they make her feel comfortable. I cant imagine having to go anywhere else. Also, they have the library inside which is a calm change of pace after working out or swimming.Awesome staff, great equipment, wonderful lifeguards for the indoor pool, variety of classes and even childcare... all in one familial environment! I couldnt ask for a better place to spend our time.
This is an awesome place to workout! Plenty of Les Mills classes and a great time in the evening. Next on my list of classes to try is the cycle class & the Snake Pit. It also has two pools so the aquatic classes don’t hold up free swim which my boys love along with the water basketball! Everyone is really friendly and the staff is super helpful! This has become a daily stop for my family!
I just got a membership and am absolutely loving it. All of the staff are so friendly & helpful and Im very impressed with the childcare providers and different age groups. I did my first group class today (Body Flow) and it was awesome. I love how family-friendly the YMCA is (and bonus that the library is attached to the main entrance!). The SAPL wifi network works great for streaming shows while I do the treadmill (the only way I can stand running!) and the facility is clean and nice. I highly recommend this facility.
