Gets the job done but needs to be updated. The ceilings are always leaking and the AC doesnt work well in some of the rooms. About half of the staff is pleasant but the rest could REALLY use some people skills. Some of them are rude and dont know how to talk to people without raising their voice and making a scene.
Clean equipment and machines, well kept locker rooms, friendly staff.
Great gym. Ac is a little spotty in some rooms but others it is great
Quality fitness center on base with lots of amenities. Sauna is not open at this time but most other services are. Clean and spacious was a pleasure to utilize this on base.
Its a dope gym, can get crowded at times. I wished they had iron barbell plates (round) 45s or kilo plates. No GHD or hyperextension machine, no powerbars or deadlift bars. Decent gym for regular gym goers...
Still open Mon-Fri at 0500 and Sat-Sun 0800 to those with gym access on JBSA. Its a very large gym with about 20 olympic bar lifting stations, 30 stationary bikes, around 10 treadmills and tons of other various weightlifting machines, dumbells and cardio items. They have an Olympic sized pool and a triple-wide basketball thats segregated for additional space with the stationary bikes(due to Covid). Theres a lockeroom with public shower access. They have 3 calisthenics bars, monkey bars and other calisthenics tools. Before the current conditions they had a juice/snack bar that served protein shakes and other goodies, but its been closed.
It definitely smells like a gym, but I love the vibe.
Older facility; spacious; glad the pool is open again
Lots of dust on the walls. Hard to use the stair climber when you are 2 feet away from balls of dust.
The facility has a good amount of squat racks enough for a morning full of people during PT hours. The basketball courts even have cardio machines in them too. The latrines were really clean too.
Im grateful they were open early but the cold shower was a rough start to the day! None of the womens showers had warm water :(
Decent equipment but very hot and usually crowded
Good space.Plenty of equipment. Modern treadmills.Very warm though
Well rounded fitness center. Free weights, machine weights and cardio machines and cycles. Only gripe is the random layout for all of the cardio equipment. It is in every hallway and common area throughout the fitness center. Otherwise, I give it a 98% for equipment and cleanliness.
Decent sized gym. Staff friendly.
They have everything you need and equipment is nice. Wish there was a larger room for more squat/dead lift racks as there’s always a wait :/ . Pre COVID was amazing you could use your ID for 24hr service. Staff that work there are professional and keep everything clean. Like most gyms the only time that sucks to go is Jan-Mar timeframe. Will be packed with new year resolution nubes and dependents for around 2-3 months.
Solid gym just nothing crossfit oriented
Relatively small free weights section and pack a lot of machines in a small space so it gets a bit cramped. Nice staff, respectful people working hard most of the time. Locker room a bit suspect but not horrible. Retired military as majority of patrons.
Great deal of machines. Great for soldiers.
Very nice to work out
Wonderful staff, great equipment, 24 hours, the weight room could use some work though, kinda smells funky.
Wifi, strength training, treadmills, bikes, stairmaster, basketball court, nice locker room and bathroom and water bottle refilling station. Pre-Covid they had racquetball courts, an ab workout area, and outside there were other items to train to pass the fitness test. Some of these features are partially open.
It gets the job done. Its an older gym but it has almost everything youd need. Two racket ball courts occupy the back and each locker room has a sauna. Theres a functional fitness room for calisthenics or HIIT training. Not a bad spot overall.
People will literally complain about everything. The staff is friendly, the locker rooms are clean, there’s enough equipment to fit any persons need, it’s all usable, nothings broken, they clean multiple times a day. It’s a free gym, I’m sorry that you aren’t getting back rubs and caviar.
The pool is permanently closed. Ceiling tiles are stained from roof leaks. Bathrooms are always dirty. The worthy room is small and youll usually wait to use equipment. Parking lot is small. Lots of cycling options and great classes. B there got a great selection of video training classes that you can select to do at your leisure.
Retired military so military gyms are all I have known. This is one of the better ones. I especially enjoy the 24 hour access.
This place used to be great. The Army has really let the place go. The military families deserve a nice pool and activities in it.
Really like this gym, has everything I need. You can ask at the front desk for 24/7 access to the gym to work out on your own time. I cancelled my planet fitness membership, best decision ever!
I wish they had a Roman chair, but other than that they have just about everything. They need a vending machine to allow you to buy stuff when the concession stand is closed. If theres one there, Ive never seen it.
Wonderful place to hear fat cells screaming in torment! Ive lost ten pounds and gained alot of muscle there.
Good gym. Pretty busy. They do offer racquetball and various other services. Separate rooms for weights, treadmills, yoga/TRX, and several others. Showers and locker rooms (at least the mens) are decent.
Plenty of heavy things to pick up and put down. Would be five stars but they have these strange things for this new fangled work out called jogging ( its pronounced with a soft j)
The weight room is about average, but the fact that they have 24hour access available for those who wants to use it is definitely a plus. EVERY military gym should get on board with the 24hours access program.
The staff is friendly and with proper ID its 24 hours 💪🏾
Its a fairly large fitness center with lots of workout equipment, an aerobic room, a dedicated spinning room, three full basketball courts (one of which is routinely used for circuit training or large aerobics classes or Zumba - each with EXTREMELY loud music), free weights, a sauna, a bar where you can purchase various drinks including water and protein shakes, and relatively large locker rooms. It would easily be, in my opinion, a five-star facility if the pool were available; however, the pool is - and has been for a very long time - closed. A staff member informed me that this is due to a problem with the roof and there is currently no plan to fix it because of funding issues.
Gets the job done
Good gym for those that can get on ft Sam Houstons post. Youll need you ID card ... bit crowded for my taste, but had no problem getting my workout. Plenty of treadmills, elliptical and stationary bike machines. The price is right ... free.
Quite a few different rooms with different types of equipment. Very large place. Indoor basketball court, sauna, showers, etc. The staff is also very nice. And if you work on Ft. Sam, you have time to catch a workout on your lunch break!!
Hard to mess up a gym. The air doesn’t pump to the free weight area well but is great, because it’s a gym. Not looking for a cool no sweat zone
Been going for years. Theyll get 5 STARS once they fix that pool!
I go for the pickup basketball but the facility is awesome as well.
Its an army gym. The pool could be a little better. The gym itself was recently remodeled. Later hours would be nice. Good staff and leadership from the USAF Force Support Squadron on JBSA
Great variety of machines. A true plus is registering your CAC with the front desk to get 24 hour access. The sauna is always hot. Only drawback is the crowded male locker room due to limited benches and overcrowded lockers.
Good gym
Decent selection but all the equipment is beat up
This is gym is for military and people who work on the base. The work out area is great with 2 racketball courts. There is a locker room with shower but the showers needs some updating.
Good equipment selection. Staff arent the friendliest. Locker rooms and showers present. 24/7 access available
Great fitness center.24hr access! Only after you sign a waiver and agree to follow the rules.I wish they would do something about the mosquitoes.
I always get a great workout at the Jimmy Brought Fitness Center. 💪
Has an abundance of equipment. But no wifi and even your own phone will not recieve internet or service at all in many areas. For those reasons alone I would rather go to my own gym I pay a membership for unless directed to do PT at this location
Can get really crowded, but has everything you need. If you really like to do pull ups they really do not have any good bars, but there are a couple that can work. Workers can be a little abrasive but helpful.
We come here to play basketball a lot. It has a very nice court. They have plenty of workout equipment and machines.
Great gym across the street from the pool. the Basketball court is currently under construction and there arent any type of puching bags in the building.
Lots of room, many many exercise equipment, 2 indoor basketballs courts and free Strenght and endurance circuit training.
Nice clean gym, very good customer service. Weight room is a bit small and cramped. Nonetheless my favorite gym on base to go to
I love this gym, the equipment is great, staff is great, plenty of room, and they keep it clean, as well as if you have a member card you can go 24/7 which is awesome. However, they have an indoor pool which has been closed for well over a year because of a poor roof, and no idea when it will open back up, and they dont have a kids area.
Large variety of free and machine weights, treadmills, recumbent bicycles, men and womens sauna, 3 basketball courts, 25 meter indoor swimming pool, racketball courts, etc. Find what you want and have fun
Cool place. Like it a lot!
I love this gym. Nice, quiet and clean.
Very quiet at 0100 and clean.
The front desk people are morons. honestly, they dont know how to work the phones, you call..they put you on hold into ETERNITY!!!,,then when you hang up and call again, the line is blocked/disconnected. how hard is to operate a simple phone line??? IDIOTS...i think the name was ALEX, someone needs to show him how to operate the front phone. it aint rocket science, folks. the line was literally occupied for 2 hours..ffs
Great gym 24 h but it smells well used
Awesome since they added the 24 hour access for permanent party.
Provides the amenities for most workouts. Some equipment is outdated and cleanliness could be better. Overall, it does the job.
A lot of machines but need more cross fit and ACFT equipment
Great facility:The hours of operation are standard for most military posts but also operates outside of normal hours for others who require the access. The maintenance team does not interfere with any patrons time and usually starts cleaning towards the very last hour of normal operation. Any torn or damaged equipment is addressed in a reasonable amount of time (with respect to equipment that needs to be ordered). There is plenty of equipment ranging from free weights to cable machines, a basketball court, swimming pool, an aerobic room, a cardio room and a small area for boxing. The facility offers services such as group classes and massages (for a cost). The locker rooms do not have a smelly odor, they have lockers free for use (with your own lock--unless you would like your stuff stolen), showers, restrooms and swimsuit dryers. Sometimes, the showers do run out of warm water or are shut down to water issues. The only real problem to the gym is presented at peak times for military personnel. The best hours are obviously in the later part of the morning/early afternoon prior to 5pm.
Great facilities, swimming pool currently closed, open all the time for active duty troops with cac card.
Large facility lots of equipment to choose from. My only beef is they need maby one more adaptable piece of cardio equipment.
Nice gym but no steam room
Majority of the equipment is up to date but the treadmills are dated and tough to run on.
Lots of equipment. Well maintained. Good mix of weight, cardio, and selectorize machines. TVs everywhere. WiFi would be great. Excellent staff.
Good gym. Its also got a pool
The showers are old & dark, but theres free Wi-Fi.
Love the gym. Everything you need is there.
Fort Sam Houston Gym. Good variety of machines. Space. And activities.
Very nice fitness center!
Love this gym.
Great place and the staff is courteous and helpful.
Nice gym with a bit of everything, as every gym should have. Only problem is the permanent gym smell and the locker rooms, not a fan.
A great gym at Fort Sam Houston, TX.
My favorite gymn to workout in a regular basis.
Helpful staff, good equipment but no working pool
An extremely nice facility with a helpful and knowledgeable staff!!!! Very clean too!
Not very big but it is effective
Great fitness center, pool closed indefinitely though.
Wonderful staff and wonderful gym
Not a bad gym at all!
Pretty spacious, terrific circuit training class on Mondays
Good facilities but can be crowded during peak PT times
I go here on a daily basis. A older building that always smells bad but has all the equipment I need to get the job done.
Great gym to workout at base!
Needs major updating, it’s a very old gym with great variety of equipment the showers are nasty.
No family workout area or room, so parents are not able to go unless they find childcare.
Has plenty of equipment and its well maintained
Loved playing Racquetball in here..
Oldie but goodie.... And they are replacing everything now... Racquetball, basketball, sauna, pool. Place is huge.
Whats not to like about JBFC, great staff and very clean!
This gym always smells weird. They need newer machines and maybe some air conditioning that works... Plenty of dust around the corners, too.
