Since I got my pup North Concho Veterinary Clinic is the only vet he will ever go to. All of the employees make us feel as though we are home when I take him for his appointments and he loves them! This place is interesting. Had an appointment at 3:25PM. I arrived on time, yet was not seen till 4:00PM. They must have invented a new language because I did not know that 3:25PM translates to 35 minutes later. If you value your time, do not come here. Would not recommend.

After using this vet clinic for a number of years, I stopped because of one of their employees. She is very bad at communicating with customers and she shows no compassion for animals. If I didnt know better, I would think she ran the whole place. During the last visit for me, she came into the exam room telling the girl helping me that she needed to tell me I had to pay the full bill. I was sitting right there and she could have just directed it to me. My dog was getting shots so it was a small expense. She is very unpersonable and I believe she is some other employees daughter. She really doesnt have any people skills and she isnt the vet so she needs to stop acting like she knows all. Running of business.

Super friendly let me wait in office even though it was lunch time. I was in from out of town and needed to get and provide shot records to my city. Their staff was very understanding and did what they could to help accomplish this. Outstanding service. While I was there an injured dog came in and discussion of a needed deposit came up, which they agreed to wait for. It was clear that an animals health and well being comes first at this Veterinary facility. Prices? This Dr. is no way after your wallet. I couldnt believe how cheap it was to get my dogs rabies shot and certificate.

I had taken my dog that passed away the day after Christmas to get cremated at North Cocho vet and they were friendly, kind, and respectful. Not easy bringing a loved one in to be cremated but they understand the whole grievance process for the deceased loved one. When I did get the ashes back it was more then I expected which was beautiful. The ashes where in a neat box with a tag with my dog Stewies name date he was born and passed, nice letter about Stewie, a card with his paw print in it, and a couple other cards with poems. My mom and sister been using North Chocho Vet for awhile and never had a problem with then ever.

We first took our rescue dog, that we have had for 5 years, here a month ago. The doctor and his assistance were so nice and answered any questions we had like his age for one as we never knew how old he was. They prescribed him medicine and said he if he gets any worse or you need more just call us and we will refill. We waited a couple weeks and noticed our dogs back legs were getting worse so my husband called up there and told them the situation and if we could get more pain meds. They said absolutely and to come by later to pick up. When my husband came to pick up meds the girl behind the desk (guessing she is the office manager, she sure acts like she is) starting questioning why my husband was picking up meds and who authorized it as we don’t give pain meds to dogs we haven’t re-seen. He told her what the lady had said as well as the doctor telling us to call if we needed more. She then proceeded to tell him different diagnosis and age then what the doctor told us, basically telling him our dog didn’t need pain meds for what she said he was diagnosed for. We scheduled an appointment for our dog so he could be re-seen because he is getting worse, the morning of our appointment they called to say the doctor had a medical emergency and couldn’t see us (understandable), after telling us that they basically said there was nothing they could do further for our dog and that if we wanted to we could take him to a specialist in San Antonio or we could just let him take his course. How would she know there was nothing left to do for him if they can’t even speak to each other and tell us the same diagnosis?? Plus they have only seen our dog ONE time! The doctor told us if he got worse to bring him in and they could do further tests but now she is saying over the phone without them seeing him again that there is nothing they can do and just washing their hands of him! Will never go back to this place for how that lady handled this situation and being allowed to talk to patients like that.Would not let me respond to your comment - I would like to know what verbal abuse took place on my part? I simply called Lisa to ask why she was calling my husband to talk about MY review I left. You, Lisa, are the one who said I was unintelligent before hanging up on me. You never once stopped to listen to what I was saying or my concerns.

Dr. Russell provides an excellent service and his staff are great with the animals in their care. All 4 of my cats are treated there and they have all received wonderful treatment and attention. To give you an example, once I had 2 of my cats in for shots, and when one of the techs noticed they were in office she came out, took them out of the carrier and cuddled/gave them kisses, just because she knows & loves them. That kind of treatment makes me feel wonderful because I know the people there really care about my pets. One of my cats is chronically ill and a very difficult patient to deal with, but they take good care of her regardless, even though she scratches them all and has to be sedated. They dont treat her with any less care.3 of my 4 cats have actually come to me as kittens from Dr. Russell, who was good enough to save them when they were all found abandoned in early infancy and in dire illness. He and his staff are great with saving such babies, fostering them and adopting them out - in my case, after they guided me through caring for the first, I was able to foster (and later adopt) 2 more sick kittens from them with Dr. Russell & his staffs guidance. Dr. Russell and his staff were always there if I had an emergency or needed help with the tough task of hand rearing tiny kittens! I also must emphasize that Dr. Russells education and experience has been proved to me time and again through the adventure of healing & hand-raising so many sick baby cats - one may have never had the use of her hind legs if it wasnt for Dr. Russells training in hydrotherapy. Now she can run & jump & play with the best. Now that they are young cats, hes equally available if they have needs. Often theyll squeeze my cats in even on busy days if theres an emergency. Lisa, receptionist and tech, makes everything easy for us. And Dr. Russell has very reasonable prices on prescription cat food - its actually cheaper to buy from him than it is to buy from the supposed cheapest place online, 800petmeds. Dr. Russells rates in general are extremely fair - I have experience with vets in other parts of the country that charge more than twice what Dr. Russell charges for office visits and procedures. And I have always been able to find coupons for things like rabies shots and spay/neuter.Compassionate, knowledgeable & fair!

Dr. Russell, has saved our diebetic dog for four years now, Rocky just turned 16 yrs old. If it wasnt for Dr. Russell he wouldnt still be here with us. Last week I had to take our little Sammie in, she is 14 yrs old and he had to extract five of her teeth and now she acts like a puppy again. He has such excellent staff, Lisa, his office manager and the other veterinarian tects are very compassionate to all animals. Would I take my babies to any other Veterinarian....Nope Dr. Russell you will have us forever!Since I posted this post, about Rocky, he was with us until he was 18 yrs old, and it was only because of Dr. Russell care and compassion! We had another problem with a puppy that came into our house, we named him Bear, Bear loved to jump up on the couch and he hurt himself, the next day he was paralyzed. I was at the clinic when it just opened with no appointment and they saw him right away, Dr. Russell, and Lisa, got right on top of it and called Dallas, got Bear an appointment, they operated on Bear, and now he can run and play like a normal dog. If it wasnt for Dr. Russell, Bear would have had to be put to sleep. I have been going to that clinic for 25 yrs now and am so glad that Dr.was the one who bought it, when the other Vet. decided to sell it. His staff has always been excellent, and very profession! Thank you all for always being there for me and my babies.

Awful. Its too bad you cant give ZERO stars because this incompetent group of individuals has definitely earned it. I suppose the one star is for the young girl who had a personality but couldnt tell her behind from a hole in the ground. They did not check our animals, who had been missing, at all. They snatched one up and popped him with a chip and round one parvovirus immunization, handed him off and repeated for dog two. Dog one while I was in the restroom and couldnt watch them. The boys came out of the same litter and we made that very clear to them but they still put the birthdates wrong, they werent even the same month! That makes me wonder if they didnt screw up any other numbers, like the ones behind the $. They didnt send us the notices they promised for the other rounds of immunizations, which, after having met them personally, I wasnt surprised. Complete idiots with a thorough lack of attention to detail is what I would have to call these people. Theyre absolutely useless. Its no wonder we had such an easy time getting in to see the vet -- theyve run off their own business! I have to trust a vet and his staff just like I do a pediatrician for my kids or they cant have my money. I will GLADLY pay any individual to do a job for me IF they DO THEIR JOB!!!

Re
Review №44

I don’t even know where to start with this clinic but I am heartbroken enough that I need to warn people so this doesn’t happen to their family’s. I recently took two dogs in to be fixed by this team and had one of the most awful/traumatic events happen for our family. I’ll start from the beginning when I dropped my dogs off. The lady at the front desk was very polite and was taking our information down. Another lady came in from the back and you could instantly tell that she was just in a awful mood. She took the dogs and weighed them and just took one of the dogs back with out saying a word. I could hear him crying as she took him back. When she came back around to get the other dog I asked”did you already take him back?” She responded with “yeah! He’s in the kennel.” Then she looked at me like I was insane requesting to tell him bye. Since it was such a hassle I didn’t push the situation. I came to my office explaining my situation and once TWO staff members have heard where I taken the dogs they told me about some awful experiences they had as well. (That’s their story to tell not mine) I called the vet and was just going to get the dogs and take them elsewhere. One dog was already in surgery and they were about to start on the other. So I called again around lunch time and my call would be answered (I could hear people talking) and then I was hung up on. This happened twice... shortly after I received a call from the place I had adopted the pets letting me know one of the dogs (perfectly healthy puppy) had died. This feeling is heartbreaking. The fact you take an animal, a rescue on top of that, that has survived so much to a “doctor” someone you should be able to trust and they die. Mind the North Concho never once called me and said anything! I went to pick up the other dog that did survive surgery. Not one person acknowledge the fact that one of our dogs had lost their lives just hours ago. So I asked to see him one last time. The vet then came in and told us that he must of had something in his genes that reacted bad to the anesthesia... never did I get one “I’m sorry” from these people when I got home the dog that made it was so sedated that her breathing was very shallow and I was up all night night making sure she was going to make it. Fast forward to this week and I noticed that her incision, a very large incision covered in skin glue had a growth on it. I took her to another wonderful vets office that kept her over night and watched her while they gave her antibiotics. If the growth was not going to go down they would have to open her up again and clean out the infection. Now the Growth or lump had gone down so she will not have to be reopened!! Which is wonderful news, but this all could have been prevented if the “Doctor” had not used skin glue on such a large incision. I also found out that when they (North Concho) took the dog back they were unsure if she had been fixed or not... (these are rescued animals)so instead of calling and letting anyone know they performed an exploratory surgery on her... I don’t know what happened during theses surgeries but I don’t feel neither one of my dogs were treated correctly. I do believe there is fowl play involved, but I will never truly know. I do want to warn others though and maybe prevent this from happening again.I am unable to respond to the staff’s comments back to my review so I will do it here...My first question is what about the 2nd dog and the exploratory surgery y’all performed instead of calling The company who I did FOSTER the dog through, and asking if y’all should do they surgery or not because y’all were unsure if she was fixed or not? You didn’t call me nor the Facitlity she was Adopted from. The dog has been fostered by us. We are her family members. We were tanks family. Idk but if I lost a family member in my hands I would notify the family. As well as the attitudes at drop off and after pick up we’re terrible. I’m not here to be ugly. I’m not here to argue... I am not the only on that has happened too. I just want people to know.

The owners response says that he is unable to find me in their records. My records with them are under my married name. I have attached a copy of one of my pets medical records with them as proof. Before the grooming appointment, I had taken in a cat and two dogs for veterinary care. We have since transferred our pets to Western Veterinary Hospital. We recently moved to San Angelo and have been looking for a vet. We have taken three animals to north concho. The clinicians were very rough handling our dogs. We thought maybe it was because they’re used to handling work dogs that are much bigger in size and our dogs are in the 15-20 lb range. So we let it slide. They offer grooming services as well, and since we were looking for a new groomer as well I thought I’d try them out. We took our 12 year old (that has been professionally groomed her entire life) and our puppy that was going in for her first groom. The groom looked ok but neither dog seemed ok after picking them up. Our 12 year old seemed traumatized and just not herself for weeks afterwards. Our puppy suddenly wouldn’t let you touch her back and suddenly refused to be picked up. She would growl and snap at your hands (which she had never done and she had been a very snuggly and affectionate dog before). Months later, the puppy was laying over my leg and I was stroking her down the side of her rib cage and I felt a lump. It’s a broken rib! Near her arm which means that it is one of the thicker and stronger ones. Obviously I switched vet and groomer. While our 12 year old has recovered and handles grooming and vet visits normally again, our puppy is reduced to a quivering mess when she has a vet visit or grooming appointment. She shakes and lays down and hides her face and whimpers. Prior to her grooming appointment at north concho she had not had any anxiety with vet visits.

My puppy needed dewormer, and when I called to ask about deworming, the receptionist told me that only a veterinarian could administer it. Naturally I made an appointment. When we arrived, the receptionist/assistant was very pushy saying that we should do a full exam on the puppy because of the circumstances in which we had gotten the puppy, so we agreed... who wouldnt? Well the deworming cost $20 for 1ml of fluid and the Full Physical Exam that cost another $45 (roughly) consisted of the veterinarian weighing my puppy and telling me that it weighed 5 pounds.... Thanks for ruining faith in humanity. You could have been honest about everything, but you decided to lie to make money.... NO WONDER NO ONE TRUSTS DOCTORS ANYMORE! Needless to say, we will never be returning and making sure that our friends and families stay away from this clinic.
