I love seeing Dr Banfill, but the reception makes me want to go to a new clinic entirely. One person in particular likely needs to be fired. I need to see my therapist, not handle the added stress of someone not knowing how to do their job.
Poor manners, poor tact, poor client relations, lack of structure or feedback. The reception and admin staff were all rude throughout my visit. Instead of greeting me, they immediately told me to wash and sanitize my hands. They demanded I keep my mask on in the empty waiting room (even though they weren’t all wearing them.) I politely explained how uncomfortable my mask is & they said I could wear it & stay, or leave. They need to work on their tact and overall friendliness. People are coming for their mental health. Treat them with extra kindness. If it’s a policy to wear masks & wash hands, explain it way ahead of time and politely. Then, Michael Wright greets us, without introducing himself... we go to talk in the office. He is very quiet & seems to be listening, but I had to ask multiple times throughout the appointment for some feedback or tips. Eventually, I got ONE tidbit from him. Overall, waste of time & money. He needs to be more assertive & provide more structure to the appointment.Potential clients: Learn from my mistake1. Don’t come here. 2. Research your psychologist and ask to talk with them before to see if you would get along. Most will do a 15 min free Q&A to see if it’s a good fit. Don’t rely on the receptionists’ elevator pitch. Read reviews. Ask what kind of treatments & therapy they do.
I dont normally post a bad review, but Ive never been treated the way I was today in a professional business, especially for mental health care. My niece was having problems getting a refill on her medication, and said they werent returning her calls, etc. She was running out the next day. There was a bill that also needed to be paid and she needed a copy of it. I offered to come with her to help support her in finding out what happened, work out getting the bill paid and getting her the needed refill if possible. I just listened at first, the lady printed out the bill and then I asked if I could ask some questions with my nieces consent. I have helped advocate for other family members and know they cant give any information without the clients consent or signing a release form. The lady said she couldnt talk with me because of hippa with my niece standing there giving consent. I thought Shed print out the form if needed so my niece could sign it. We thought she could e-mail the bill to her dad to pay, but she said they also needed him to sign a form. I thought my niece only needed to sign it. Anyway, the more I tried to clarify what was needed to resolve the bill, the less willing the lady was to help us. Finally she just said for her dad to go on line to pay it. I wondered if he needed access to a patient portal or what, but she kept saying, I cant talk to you in front of my niece who consented to me being there. Finally we left, still not sure how to get the bill paid. We walked back in to talk with the receptionist. I though maybe she could print out the needed release form and she started to help us, but the other lady came back in and said If you dont leave now, I will call 911. Ive never had that experience, after years of helping my elderly mother, and sister and adult daughter with appointments that needed an advocate. Other medical personnel have always been courteous and helpful. This woman made it impossible to resolve something that could have been resolved pretty easily. I would never do business there simply because of her, and it seems like she is the top person running that clinic. I wont mention her name, but she is not helping their business by the way she runs things.
Our son has been trying to get a refill now since the 25th of January when his RX was due. He has been very ill and up at the U for this illness. It has put him down. An illness that requires extensive testing. Yet Dr. Chen is not replying to his requests. Our son is also an at risk patient for covid because of his pulmonary issues i.e. pulmonary embolisms. This is unacceptable care as well as neglect. We are at a total standstill with this. We know patients must be seen but there needs to be an exception to this rule.
I dont like to leave negative reviews, but I feel honesty is important here. I am very unimpressed with the lack of professionalism and organization. My therapist was great. I wish I could give her a separate review, but the rest of the office staff made my experience over all a negative one.I was visiting this clinic on an employee assistance program. My insurance company gave me authorization to see this therapist, specifically, and they would pay for it. At my first appointment I provided all the required documentation. At my second appointment I was told I owed an $88 copay. I stated that was wrong and asked for that to be fixed. At my third appoinment, same thing. 4th appointment I was told insurance wasnt covering the visits and that I needed to pay for all of them that day. I stated again this was wrong and needed to be fixed. At my 5th appointment I was told again that I had a copay of $88. I agreed to pay at that time as I was tired of dealing with this but refused to pay for the previous visits. This same thing happened at my 6th appointment.I should mention here, that scheduling appointments was also a nightmare. I would have an appointment scheduled that worked with my work schedule, and then with less than 24 hours notice be told my appointment was changed to a time that didnt work for me. SO UNPROFESSIONAL.I stopped making appointments and had to seek out a new therapist. I was being treating for anxiety and this was making my anxiety worse. This was a year ago.I then started receiving mail, emails, and text messages that said I owed almost $200. I tried for A YEAR to resolve this, explaining that they techincally owe ME for the two appointments I paid for when I shouldnt have. But I cut my losses and let them keep that money. Finally, yesterday, they wrote off the outstanding balance as they should have done last year when I explained this was an EAP visit. For a mental health factility, they sure dont make it easy for patients and, in my case, they contributed to making my condition worse.
I am not one to leave negative reviews unless I am really displeased with an experience. I have tried to give Ascendant the benefit of the doubt for over a year, but the last straw was reached today. I really appreciated the therapist I worked with for about a year. She helped me get through some challenging life circumstances and helped with with skill sets to manage depression and anxiety. Since she switched her schedule, which was not compatible with my work schedule, I have experienced nothing but frustration.I have a very tight work schedule and am only able to schedule personal appointments at specific times. The front office has set my appointment times incorrectly in their scheduling software at least a dozen times in the past year. Even when I have called to correct appointments that were set at the wrong time, the changes were still not made. I would show up for an appointment and be told that it was on the schedule for the hour previous. I am a very meticulous person and would not schedule appointments for times that I could not keep them. I have been billed for appointments on days that I did not have an appointment, and have been billed for multiple appointments on the same day on at least 4 occasions.Getting this corrected through their billing department was excruciating.I have observed that providers are frequently leaving this practice, which suggests to me it is not a great place to work from a provider perspective. Dont get too attached to your therapist, because they will likely be leaving.Bottom line, good clinicians, TERRIBLE office organization, follow-through and communication.
This has been my first experience with therapy and truly grateful for the service Ive been provided here. I have been seeing Chris since August and he has been wonderful. The lobby/waiting area is great, I like that there are activities and water while I wait. The girls at the front desk are also very kind and I love that they address me by my first name. They are also helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone.
I had an extremely bad experience with this company. I ended up cancelling all of my future appointments. I am curious if any of had charges that seemed corrupt. I have bee dealing with them for months. I was charged 40 dollars, then told it was 70. I called they stated that I was over charged and they would credit my account back the 70 dollars. I just received another bill for 70 dollars. Im unable to contact the billing department and they never call me back
I have loved going to this center. My son is genuinely cared about and his therapist is so sweet. The front staff girls are great!!! I really appreciate all the help they have given me with the schedule and work hard to make any adjustments I need. I live a hour away but make the drive every week to go because the therapists here are awesome :)
I love love love the front staff! They always make us feel welcomed and dont ever get annoyed with my toddlers, which is FANTASTIC!We see Jan, and she is just Amazing! She is so good with my child. He has had such a great turn around since his first visit with her. It has been night and day! She is really nice to my toddlers as well....We love you, Jan!
Even though they have an office where I live in Lehi, I happily make the drive to Murray so I can meet with Cybele. She is so good at her job and has helped me in many ways that therapy has not helped in the past. I feel real progress each time I go. Highly recommend the therapists! The scheduling staff is a pain to deal with sometimes because they don’t always return calls. But that is worth overlooking to me, if you find the right therapist.
They didn’t do anything unethical or wrong, just against my personal principles. I made an appointment and specifically asked for someone I could see for a long term, briefly touched on the issues I needed to work on.When I showed up, they verified all my information. I thought it was strange at the end of the session Cliff stated he we be sure to refer me to someone who could definitely help me out. I brushed it off thinking he must have meant it in the context If I cant help you, Ill find someone who can.I go up to the front, pay my co-pay and ask to schedule out a few weeks, just incase he gets busy. They tell me that Cliff is actually no longer at this facility and his last appointment will be next week. Honestly I dont like opening up to people, and I am not one who sit and complain to anyone that crosses my path.To me I received the impression they do anything to make a quick buck, even if they means schedule a session for a new patient 4 days before a therapist is resigning from the office. I am not a patient at this office, I am a number with too many issues that I cant solve on my own. Thanks Ascendant Behavioral Health! Its nice to know you care about my well being, and want me to get better. I hope the $25 co pay and amount my insurance covered will help you buy some tasteful new furniture and decor. Maybe some Windex.-Shawn
Worst experience I’ve ver had!!! My mother is a therapist and I’ve run her office for many years. I wanted to receive therapy from a clinic not related and unbiased. I tried Ascendant for three sessions. Right from the beginning and now even four months later after my last appointment, I’m having repeated issues with them billing my insurance incorrectly (provided correct information three times), and also with them keeping me aw recurring in their appointment calendar months after I cancelled them all. This is run so poorly and actually amped up my anxiety and stress more then what I had before. I’ve called and talked to so many people to get it straightened out and they just can’t seem to get it together. The last billing person I talked to was extremely rude and hung up on me.Therapy sessions were mediocre at best, with no results or work done; just 40 minutes of allowing me to vent (sessions cut very short for notes- but cut into my hour).I will never go back nor do I recommend them at all!!
At the beginning of last year I was in awe with how this my therapist helped teach me, my life skill to remain sober. After cliff, my therapist left we had problems with billing and inaccurate charges to the insurance. when i became current on balance owed, I wasnt sure if I would be graduating or if If I needed more classes After several attempts by phone and walk ins I called today and was told my certification was wait for me.. I did not get a single returned phone call from any of the staff. I didn’t not even an invitation to the commencement ceremony, which I rightfully earned. If I could recommend anybody to help get you or your loved one sober it would be to go see Cliff at alium health
So far it has not been what I thought I was going to get out of the therapist. It felt more like an intervention to tell you the true. I will never take medication I never have and never will. To be offer medication in the first vist was something I didnt want to hear . I wanted to talk about the situation not get offer prescription Im not a crack head .
Beth, the medication specialist is just about the only good thing about this place. I flat out told my therapist that I was suicidal and in a very bad place. And what did she do to help me? Nothing. She told me, well, youre doing well considering your current situation. Ive tried more than one therapist at this clinic and none have been able to be of any help at all. Ive been tolerating therapy here for two years. So, I informed them that I have an appointment with a new therapist at another clinic, and because of this, they wont refill my prescriptions. Theyre threatening my health because they know the dangers if I am off of my anti-depressants for even a day. Because of Ascendant, I passionately dread therapy. There are way better and more professional clinics than this one.
I have been going to Ascendant for 3 years. Everyone I have interacted and worked with have always shown me respect and genuine concern for my needs. The doctors and therapists have a passion for what they do and really listen and care. Be patient with your mental health care. Its not an instant fix. Its a process of healing and the people at Ascendant really do care.
I have enjoyed every visit to Ascendant so far. My kids are welcome. They have movies or TV playing, coloring papers, etc....Its been amazing! I have and will continue to recommend to all my family and friends.
First appointment that I made for my daughter was cancelled an hour before my daughter was supposed to be there. Okay therapist is sick we reschedule. Go in to be seen today and wait 15 minutes. Well if I am paying for an hour of time I expect my child to get an hour of time. Doesn’t seem like an unreasonable expectation. So as I go to the receptionist to get my money refunded and leave since I have not had my child seen the therapist finally decides to show up and then gets extremely rude with my husband with my child present because we are leaving at this point. My husband then goes to speak to who we were told was the office manager who is really just billing and they get condescending with him. Well I’m sorry but my time and money is also valuable. If you are paying for an hour of service you expect to get an hour of service. Considering this was her first appointment it left a really bad taste in our mouths. Would rather go somewhere that values their clients and treats them with respect.
In a profession such as this, you are dealing with people hanging by strings. In any case it should be handled with haste, passion, and the feeling that you’re helping to heal the people trusting you. This office is in shambles, and should not be open to the public at all, it is a disgrace how long they have taken to give me a simple call, or help me get a simple prescription. 1.5 months. Not a single pill, not a call, not a check-up Incase there were problems. I am swearing off this location for the rest of my life, In hopes that they will take this as a warning to try and fix this mess they call a health clinic. I have never dealt with such inconsistency. It is truly terrifying that they are still open. Please fix your program or shut this facility down.
Ive been so worried bout seein someone for my mental health, but the people here are super helpful. My first therapist (I chose first without much knowledge) didnt quite fit, but when we called, talked, and looked on their website a bit more. I was able to get paired with someone that really fits now.
Gail & Mitzy are fantastic Doctors, my husband has a lot of needs & they are so supportive & kind. They really make us feel like we matter & thats super important! Support staff is amazing!!
Therapist no showed-- TWICE. Office never sent me the info for the zoom call. I confirmed the appointment, and even got reminder texts. No showed, rescheduled and was told it was ascheduling error, no showed again. Very frustrating.
Wow I love this group.. I had to meet a few people to find the therapist I needed. And I did. I was given tools and skills yo help me heal. Best therapy ever!
Front staff is excellent at what they do and they get to know all the patients. I have loved being here and always feel welcome. Thank you Ascendant!
Karen, Beth and Sue have been so amazing. Karen personally helped me get my insurance and appointments together with a hug! I don’t know what I would do with them!
A large number of staff are not qualified to work at this facility where they accommodate people who are dealing with mental health issues
My son has made leaps and bounds and i appreciate the support. Front office ataff is always amazing! Thank you guys I would ve lost without you
The staff is very helpful and friendly and there is hardly any wait for you to get called in to see a therapist:)
I’m sad I can’t rate less than 1 star. I plan on getting licensed and putting in my own prescriptions. I feel that it would be faster than waiting on this dysfunctional clinic.
Scheduling absulotely sucks at this place! Our daughter needs counseling for some issues and we can’t get a consistent schedule. The receptionist service here is terrible. They keep changing the times and not letting us know. There have been several times the therapist no shows as well. As a parent, when your child is needing therapy and there are things going on, I feel it is important to set up therapy with consistency. We are very disappointed and this will also be reported higher. No mental health business, ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN, should be run this badly, it’s horrible
In the past 6 years Ive seen around 7 therapists so I say this with the fierce conviction of a Scentsy/Young Living rep: Stacie is, and I cannot stress this enough, incredible. Shes like a mix of so-what-is-the-truth-Oprah & that bartender in all those movies that can just *see* you deep down & by the end of your conversation you no longer need that martini extra dry filled up to the brim of your pint glass bc you finally GET IT.Attending the DBT group therapy sessions Stacie has led in addition to our 1 on 1 sessions has helped me learn coping skills, how to communicate effectively with people in difficult situations, and not once has she ever given me any trite b.s. that has induced violent eyerolling on my end. It never seems like its a job to her. Shes helped me change my life. Truly. Not only that, the entire office is fantastic. Taylor and Karen in the Salt Lake office have always been kind & had so much patience with me, a very high maintenance patient. So yes, Ascendant is the Fenty Beauty of behavioral health clinics.(OH! And BONUS! They have cute emotional support animals milling about. Its beautiful.)
The front staff Katie and Carri are amazing and very kind. They are great at greeting everyone who walks through the door. The MA Karen was very helpful.
If you want a place with some of the worst office staff, who never call you back after youve called them twice a week in the last 2 months. Then this is the place for you. My therapist no longer works at this office and since then, trying to schedule with a new therapist has been a joke! Ive called multiple times over the last 2 months and Im told someone will call me back. No one ever does, this isnt the way to run a business.
The front office staff, Carrie and Natasha are warm and caring. They make you feel welcome and comfortable. Pat Ringgold, one of the therapists, is exceptional. She is very in tune with you as an individual. So far, everyone Ive met or worked with seems caring and competent.
I was not pleased with the experience we had while going here. I would not recommend any parent taking their child/teen to this place. I know for a fact, if a counselor/therapist is told something if they feel a parent should or needs to know, they have the right to tell a parent. My daughter felt she was not getting the appropriate help there so we discontinued the visits. The only thing I can say is, what my daughter told to the person she was meeting with, I should have been informed ASAP because she is a minor. When a crime is committed against someone (minor) a parent must be told! I am not pleased with the way things were handled, and no help was given in the area that she needed!
We love Stacey Cotterell. So kind and helpful.
I was released from hospital to go here and speak more with a therapist. At first they where nice but as I went more and more I felt like I was a bother. My sessions are cut short and im still expected to Pay the $88 for my session. I came here for suicidal ideation and being asked if I thought about killing myself as the opening topic is kinda unnerving. I needed paperwork completed to get me back to work and it was filled out 3 times wrong. And now trying to get it fixed again it is urgent its done fast but it was not even filled out all the way.I may look for other facilities
The front desk is wonderful! It will take time to recognize how the therapists are since this was our first visit.
The APRN Elizabeth Harrop is very professional and knowledgeable. The front staff is amazing! They offer so many programs and the Therapists are wonderful!
I love this place. The staff is nice and caring. Would recommend.
Very helpful! We are always welcomed withwith cheery attitudes and our counselor is just right.
The staff are very on point on time. And they treat other staff with respect and as well as the poeple there. Would recommend.
Elizabeth harp is very professional and kind. She exstreamly good at med managment. She exsplains all changes in detail. She put your needs and wants first. Never giving you anything you dont want. Celeste one of the therapists there. She is wonderful at giving real advice use can use in many situations . She exsplains the science behind your thinking. Gives you lots of tools to help deal with stress. Ten stars there! The only downside here is if you incounter the the one mean receptionist. She is allways annoyed if she has to check you in and makes unprofessional comments. If you miss her everything eles is great! But please dont let her stop you from seeking help.
The most unprofessional place I’ve dealt with. If the staff does something wrong expect to be put on hold and hung up on. not to mention they won’t call you back.
They never answer the phone
Good care and professional people to aid in your illness
Waiting for therapist takes forever. My session always starts late
Provider went on vacation without notifying us that our appointment was cancelled
