If you haven’t ever had the chance to visit this location you should try it. I have been to a few gyms in the valley and it is really hit & miss as far as what I am looking for. That is not to say that the other gyms aren’t fantastic, just not really my cup of tea.I have noticed that all of the kids classes are getting somewhat full since I first started, and that has to be an indicator that they’re doing something right. I don’t have children of young ages, but every night that I walk in the doors there are 30 to 35 kids on the mat. It seems that they really have great kids programs as well because you don’t know if it’s a jujitsu class or a birthday since all the kids are laughing and having fun. This gym is clean and all of the instructors are really pleasant and respectful to the students. There are many of us who don’t have great BJJ skills, and then there are those who are very skilled but the instructors all treat us with the same respect which is what I like the most. Likewise, I like it that they not only have people in their 20s and 30s on the mat but they also have some of us old guys that are 50+. Seems like we are a club and joke about being “the old guys” all the time.If your female - I know that the primary owner of the gym is a female. She actually is an instructor at the school as well for the kids primarily, however she has instructed one adult class that I went to and did a fantastic job.The head Professor is the nicest guy ever, but so are the other assistant professors and coaches. Glad I made the jump to this gym and maybe someday will get my black belt.Lastly these guys have a workout gym in the back of the Jiujitsu gym that I love to use before class. Nice spin bikes and rowers.
A very caring, family friendly environment. The coaches and staff make every single person feel comfortable and welcome. Professors are very knowledgeable and amazing teachers. My family has loved going here and we always look forward to attending class. I highly recommend this gym to everyone I know and meet!
I am a purple belt and have loved my experience at GB Salt Lake City. I started training at a different school but decided to switch over because of what I was hearing from other students from GB. The professors care about my training, they want me to improve. Im learning technique instead of just smashing and surviving. There are a lot of women to train with which is awesome! I have loved the community and friendships. Best jiu jitsu school in the state!
I dont write a lot of reviews but I would be remissed in recommending Gracie Barra SLC, my second home. I have been training BJJ for less than a year, and have fallen in love with the professors, atmosphere and family culture that SLC brings to the table.1. Excellent Instruction: From beginner to black belt, Thiago and Rodrigo have helped with building a curriculum that all can learn at any step of the BJJ journey. The professors love for the sport and martial art means they want everyone no matter how old, what size, how athletic you are, but to enjoy and come love BJJ. I know that I can use ask questions from drills to the eventual sparring sessions, the professors are always there to help and support you.2. Welcoming Environment: I was nervous to start the sport as I was out of shape, trying to survive in a sport that didnt make a lot of sense. I soon came to realize that everyone at the gym is there to help and support on the journey. I have come to value very close relationships within the gym and consider everyone family.3. Personal Development: I can say that Ive lost 25 pounds from the short 8 months that I have been going to SLC BJJ. The class rhythm and personal coaching from Thiago and Rodrigo have helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, without judgement. I truly appreciate everyone that has been involved in building this gym, and so glad I found, maybe just a few years late.I have personally referred 6-7 friends from all walks of life that have fallen in love with the gym and sport. Thanks SLC Gracie Barra
A great place full of extraordinary people. Everything is explained in great detail, and the professors are eager to answer any questions you might have. Ive been here a few months, but was immediately surprised to find myself learning so much from my fellow students as well as my professors. Very open minded to anyone looking to start self defense, and the ideal environment for anyone looking to improve their jiu jitsu.
One thing that really stands out to me about Gracie Barra Salt Lake City is how patient and encouraging the instructors and coaches are. They are excellent teachers in that they challenge you, but they do so in a constructive way. GB Salt Lake City has created a very welcoming culture and inviting community to learn Jiu-Jitsu. I have been thoroughly impressed with their quality of instruction as well as their pristine, top-notch facilities. If you decide to train here you will not be disappointed—the instructors are so knowledgeable and they want to help you get better. Highest recommendation.
GB Salt Lake is a great place to learn for Beginners Or is great for high Level belts as well. I have been taking my 8 year old daughter here for a few months she just loves it Amazing professors and coaches very friendly. I have train at a lot of Different gyms here in Utah by far they exceed my expectations in every aspect. Very clean Facility with amazing people for great prices.
When searching for a martial arts school for my 6 year old, I looked at various options. Gracie Barra SLC had the best class schedule for kids. The instructors herd cats (kids) well and keep them focused on respect/learning.We are excited to part of Gracie Barra SLC.
My son (10) and I started together, and both have really enjoyed it. All the professors and coaches bring a safe, positive, and challenging experience. My son really loves working with Professor Rodrigo & Professor Thiago. And the morning classes with Coach Michel are top-notch.
I’m very excited I found Gracie Barra when I moved to Utah. The Professors are amazing teachers and are great at teaching the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu. Coming to Gracie Barra is often the highlight of my week and the students here are very welcoming. Feels like a big family.
Tried out jiu jitsu for self defense, this place has great instruction. The professors and instructors are amazing and very patient. I went in for my introduction class and it was free. It was fun and so at the end of the class I signed up being told there was a payment every two weeks and I could cancel anytime. I went to another class and wanted to keep going back, however my schedule did not allow me too. So two weeks after signing up, I called to cancel my membership. They informed me that from when I signed up it was a 30 day commitment with a total of two payments. They confirmed on that phone call that I only had one more payment left. I was fine with one last payment to finish up the 30 day commitment. A month later, I find that instead of just the one more payment, they have charged my card three more times claiming that the 30 day commitment did not start until my membership was cancelled, which was two days after I had called to cancel. I was still paying for an entire additional month even after my membership was cancelled!
I have really enjoyed the professionalism and welcoming environment of this gym. The exercise is great, and the instruction is top notch. Ive gotten in shape while learning some great techniques! I started bringing my son to his age group classes as well. They do a great job of instilling confidence and discipline in a fun, family-friendly way. I highly recommend it!
I was introduced to Gracie-Barra SLC from a friend who had been learning jiu-jitsu there for the past year. I was able to take an introductory class to see if I liked it. Professor Rodrigo took the time to introduce himself and shared a little of his life story with me. He communicated what jiu-jitsu could do for me. He and the other professors are inspiring and totally down to earth! The gym has weights you can train with aside from jiu-jitsu and the facility is super clean and well lit. Theres no funky smells (except for the athletes) Dani is a superstar assistant. There are kids programs, adult beginner classes, and advances ones. The schedule of classes allows you plenty of opportunity to get there. The gym supports an attitude of family and inclusion - all it takes is one class to see for yourself this is true. Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone.
My son and daughter joined not long ago . Im not always able to take them because of my night shift schedule . But when I see them the next day all they talk about is what they learned and try to do what they learned on me haha. They definitely have a lot of fun and learn alot . Im waiting for my shift to change back to days so I can join too .
I dont take the class here but my son does he is a 6 year old, & so far he likes it. It has helped him be more confident in him self, at first he wanted to quit it seemed hard but then he got the hang of it. The professor is amazing! & welcoming.
I started a few weeks ago. Professor Rodrigo and all of the staff are great, the gym is nice and clean. There is a lot to learn.
I dont personally train at this gym but Gracie Barra has been amazing for both my son and daughter. The professors are so patient and amazing with the kids. Ive seen small and large classes and the professors do so great every time. Huge thanks and highly recommended!
Super inviting fun environment. In the words of professor Rodrigo your HOME. Thanks for the roll from Fort Collins!
Great place for learning self defense or to find a new hobby. Highly recommend for people who enjoy wrestling
I visited Gracie Barra Salt Lake City from Texas, where I attend the school at Gracie Barra Lakeway. Gracie Barra Salt Lake City is a top notch school, for a few reasons.First, as white belt with 2 months experience, they do the smart thing of easing white belts into their GB1 class, which focuses on fundamentals. I did the 6:30pm class, and we focused on a basic takedown and side control (very basic concepts) for an hour. The more advanced students were across the mat in the GB2 class. Our GB1 instructor, Mike, was an amazing instructor who had a great way of explaining concepts, and pointing out things Id missed in the past.I feel comfortable sparring, so I stayed after and we rolled for a good 1.5-2 hours. The advanced belts were great about pushing me to by limit, but not just smashing me (as youll sometimes see at other locations). The school really has an amazing culture where everyone teaches, and everyone was giving me pointers and trying to make me better. The advance belts allow the newer belts to gain advantage so they can work on their defenses and escapes, which is really smart. I rolled with the Professor, who was great as well. He was only using white belt techniques against me, and was pointing out ways to do things to be more effective. Whats the best part about this school is that the advanced belts, who are really, really good, are so gracious with their knowledge.I would recommend school to anyone, advanced or beginner, who is looking for a place to advance their skills rapidly in a safe and fun environment. Ten starts if I could!
My wife and I were visiting purple belts from Montana and have trained BJJ for 5 years. Professor Rodrigo was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and patient in his teaching. We saw him with a new white belt, taking his time and patiently teaching him basic movements. He rolled with each of us, and of course we felt like newborn babies, unable to do anything. Thank you to Professor Rodrigo and Daniella for the openness to have us visit, and your swift communication. This place is the real deal! The Eriksson Family - Katie and Johan
My son has come out of his shell and gain the confidence needed to succeed. Everybody involved in Gracie Barra Salt Lake feel apart of something. The professors also teach all the kids about how to deal with bullies. After a few weeks every kid will spar anyone in the gym. Doesn’t matter size gender age, these kids are prepared to defend themselves.
I am not a student to evaluate the gym. In fact I am an athlete and the head professor here. But my five stars goes to this amazing group of students. The gym is amazing not only because professors, assistant instructors or owners. You guys definitely make this place special! Thank you all!!!
Great learning experience for my granddaughters! Self defense is what they need. 😊👍
Amazing!!! I highly recommend this school to anyone. The professors, curriculum/drills, atmosphere, cleanliness, and people. It doesn’t get any better than this. Grateful to have found these guys
Before I started learning Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Barra I had no friends, I got beat up by everyone, and when I took my shirt off I looked like melted butter. Now that I’m practicing Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Barra (you know where this is going) when I take my shirt off I look like the Rock. I help my bullies talk through their emotional responses and by overcoming their past traumas that will led them to healthy, non-violent exchanges. Someone named a high school after me. Ben and Jerry’s made me my own flavor of Ice Cream (Chocolate Chase Cookie Jo). I am able to drive an electric car without letting it become my personality. I don’t get any more “Scam Likely” phone calls. And I’ve finally mustered up the courage to remove all the superfluous titles I’ve given myself on LinkedIn.In short, My life is dope. You can’t lose by going to Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Barra Salt Lake City, you can only learn. Also the Instructors are awesome, the facility is nice, and the the curriculum is fresh af.I mean, they put purple listerine in the bathroom and burn candles from Bath and Body Works. Like are we at a gym or at a country club???Sound too good to be true? Yeah, you’re probably right. The location is right next to a Korean food restaurant so, there is always a strong temptation to get some Bulgogi in your Gi before, after, and during class. But if life were easy, everyone would have one.But Chase, what if I don’t speak English?Don’t even worry, and frankly, if you’ve made it this far into my review…you speak English. But I digress…English? Check.Spanish? Check.Portuguese? Check.Czech? Google Translate. So what are you waiting for? Stop sitting on your hams, playing Minecraft with Cheeto-fingers, and slowly turning into a tub of lard! Get on down to Gracie Barra and get a big ole taste “f**k yeah!”
Excellent professors. I highly recommend you give it at least a try. I think Gracie Barra is a wonderful place.
Gracie Barra Salt Lake is a great gym! I was able to visit a few other gyms closer to where we live and no one can compare to the curriculum and atmosphere that Gracie Barra has. The classes are very well structured and organized. I can come to to class knowing Ill be getting some good rolls in, great instruction, and I wont have to worry about someone deliberately trying to injure me. This school is definitely worth the 5 stars and the hour drive up for us.
Gracie Barra is jiujitsu for everyone. I feel safe at this gym. There are no bullies and no tough guys here. Most of the people are here be fit, learn one of the most fun sports in the world, make friends and have a ton of fun. The professors are very experienced and the owners make sure the environment is supportive for everyone. Also, the gym is SUPER CLEAN! Come check it out!
Daughter 6yrs and myself 39yrs we really enjoy the training. Highly recommended for confidence building in kids & adults. Healthy relations and great workout. And a great team/family support!
As a brown belt in Kungfu and having done Taekwondo as well. I have never been to a school that has made me feel more like part of a family till I started training at Gracie Barra. The instructors are all amazing and no matter your skill level everyone from seasoned to new wants to help you become your best. As an officer studies show 96% of our fights go to the ground. I have full trust that the training you receive here will save your life.
The professors here are great with kids and go so above and beyond! The owner, Andrea, is so hands on and involved with all the classes. I can’t recommend this place enough! Every single person I have worked with here has been so helpful, encouraging and AMAZING to work with!
If you are looking for a safe, clean and friendly place to train Jiu-Jitsu this is it! This school continues to exceed my expectations and the instruction is topnotch. It is easy to see how much the Professors and owners care for each and every student. They are hands on and are deeply invested in our well being and progression. I highly recommend Gracie Barra Salt Lake City, you won’t be disappointed!
If you’ve been wanting to start bjj this is the place to train at. New or seasoned everyone is extremely helpful and instructors are very knowledgeable. I can’t recommend this place enough.
Gracie Barra has been a great place to train and meet Great people. The owners are great and the professors teach good Jiu Jitsu. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new or experienced, there is something there for everyone.
Holy heavens! This gym is amazing. Andrea the owner totally gets it. 2 black belts on the mat all the time, lots of training with people willing to go as hard as you like. Some really tough guys but who don’t smash you instead they teach you. It’s perfect!I can’t recommend this more highly. Super clean, and VERY friendly.
This school really believes in Gracie Barras Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone motto. Whether you are just starting your Jiu-Jitsu journey, or have been training for many years, there are students of all levels and walks of life that LOVE training here and have a great time doing it. Come in and ask any one of them, theyll happily tell you why they train at Gracie Barra Salt Lake City. The school is clean, smells good and has a cool kids room with toys and a TV to keep kids busy while their parents are in class. Theres even a hygiene cart with complementary nail clippers, hand sanitizer, breath mints and other paraphernalia to encourage cleanliness among the students - not something Ive seen at any other gym and is a really nice touch. The instruction is really top-notch in both the kids and adults programs. Instructors give personal time to each and every student to ensure that they understand and can execute the (really cool) techniques. The class schedule offers morning, noon and evening classes during the week and morning classes on the weekends, so you can always find a time to train.Highly recommend checking this school out. You wont regret it.
Professor Rodrigo an Thiago are amazing, and try to make the classes both informative and entertaining for everyone. At first, I was going into it out of shape, and coming out of depression. I fell in love with the sport and the way the moves all flow together after two classes. And the community that Andrea built there helped me more than I can ever thank her for.So, my advice to anyone thinking about joining would be- Come for jiu jitsu and stay for the community.
What a fantastic gym! Professors are knowledgeable and patient for all levels of experience. The staff genuinely cares about everyone who attends and strives to learn and improve together. I have not been to a single class where I didnt come out feeling significantly better coming out than I did coming in. The gym is always spotless and there is a kids area that my daughter (8 years old) loves spending time in while Im in class. Also one of the few gyms in this area that I have seen with exercise equipment readily available for members. Thank you guys for all that you do!
Great training environment ! off the chart standards, I love the discipline tradition of the Gracie academy theyre second to none
I went to several other local BJJ gyms before coming to Gracie Barra.I chose Gracie Barra because from day 1 I felt welcomed and excited to be there. At the same time, they were very organized and professional; this is something I didn’t find at the other gyms I tried out.I would highly recommend giving Gracie Barra a shot. If you’re unsure about it, try out another gym and the difference in quality of instruction and professionalism in the business will sell you too.
Im not a student here, but my daughter is and we both are super excited to be part of Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu not only because of their professionalism, but because my daughter always learn something new and she is not shy anymore 🤫. Classes are super fun, we love it!
This gym is so family friendly and inviting. I adore Gracie Barra and the amazing friends that Ive met.
Three months ago I came in on a whim wondering what this Jiu Jitsu stuff was all about. I was welcomed in by the owner, Andrea for a free intro class. She fitted me with a clean gi and I was thrown into my first ever Jiu Jitsu class at age 38. Now a 39 year old ;) ;) I have to say it has been one of the best, most profound decisions of my life. It’s been knowledge and wisdom being passed down from professor to student. Each day is a challenge mentally and physically and offers continuous growth. The instruction is phenomenal. Great focus on each of us individually. I was welcomed with open arms from day one. My heart is at Gracie Barra SLC! Don’t tell my wife ;) ;)
Absolutely, positively an outstanding staff who go the extra mile to make you feel like you’re part of a family. The professors are extremely knowledgeable with every facet of the martial art. They help you build a strong foundation in Jiu Jitsu to progress at your pace. The love I have for this place is tremendous! I love training there! Thorough instruction, and a true lead by example philosophy. A great place to come to and meet new friends as well!
I am a student if Gracie Barra Salt Lake City and recommend this school for everyone. Jiu-jítsu in this school is really for everyone and It is changing my life in a lot of aspects! You need to try. Oss!
My family and I trained at another gym for one year and loved it, so we had high expectations when we walked into Gracie Barra but they far exceeded that expectation. They welcomed us with open arms and didn’t care that we have trained in a few months. They encouraged us and pushed us with full trust and respect. We’re all feeling really good and have already formed camaraderie with everyone on the mat and most of all the instructors. We roll with both of the black belts everyday on the mats. This is an experience that I am very grateful to have. We just love this amazing environment here!OOOSSSSS!
I love this gym. So many women and all so welcoming, as well as the other people. But as a women, it’s always nice to have chicks you can connect with. Me and my whole family go here and our kiddos love it as well. The Professors are so patient and always helping out when we don’t understand a move. It’s so family oriented and environment is great. Would recommend this place for anyone that wants to try out jiu jitsu or for whoever wants to continue progressing.
I am a parent of a student and am very impressed with the caliber of the instructors and the lessons!Purely Awesome!!!
I have only gone twice, but this place makes me want to come back for more. The instructors are very helpful, friendly, and I feel like I am learning a lot. I highly recommend this place.
Amazing place, amazing people and amazing teaching! I love being there, it really feels like a big family. Training mates and professors are always trying to help the students so are the staff. They focus on the individuals as much as they can so we all can reach a great group work! The gym is very organized and clean! Very technical classes, good sweating and workout. Very qualified and experienced professors, you gotta come to learn their history! Love this place, is definitely the place to run for during hard times! Thank you graciebarra family!
I had my first class at Gracies Barra the other day and can I just say, WOW! This place feels like a warm embrace of eternal sunshine, Rodrigo and Andrea were engaging, helpful and encouraging from the moment I walked in the door. Beyond that the atmosphere is simply unbeatable, I could feel the good energy radiating off of everyones souls into one collective unit of power. I walked out feeling like I had genuinely learned something and cannot wait to get paid so i can come back. Gracies Barra deserves all the stars in the sky!!!!
10/10 would get choked here again. The staff is well informed and welcoming. As a woman in an “aggressive” sport they don’t make it seem like a mans club nor do they make you feel like you have to be “tough” to do jujitsu. I hope that more and more people can come!
Some of the most awesome people to be around! I definitely enjoy the atmosphere and learning here! I do greatly recommend training there! 🤙🏾
My six children and I have trained at 4 Gracie Barra Schools; 3 in Hawaii and currently Gracie Barra Salt Lake City. If you are interested in learning a Martial Art, or want your kids to learn self-discipline and self-defense, I strongly recommend Gracie Barra Salt Lake City. Their instructors are friendly, certified professionals. The students reflect the values of the school and are also friendly and welcoming. Thank you Andrea (Coach/owner) and Professor Rodrigo and Professor Thiago. Aloha to Professor Elias Ramirez and his growing family at Gracie Barra Kapolei.
This place is amazing!! The owners and professors are very welcoming, it was nice to be able to go to a gym where on the first day you were not thrown to the sharks! They make sure you understand safety and the fundamentals before they let you move on which makes it safer for everyone involved! I will be making this my home gym and when my kids come to visit they will be training here as well! Highly recommend!
Great location. Large training area, that is well maintained. Superior group of people that I get to train with. Excellent instruction from Professor Rodrigo and Thiago.
This studio makes you feel so welcome since day one.The staff is super nice and the professors are very acknowledgementThe facilities are very clean and newThere are clases for all levels, ages. This studio is perfect to practice Jiu-jitsu with all your family members
I love our school. I say our school because training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has become apart of who I am. My wife and some of my kids also train. We have been with the school since the beginning. Our Professors Rodrigo and Thiago are very knowledgeable and care about all of the students. Their instruction is exceptional. We have a beautiful facility with a very large mat, gym, kids room, and multiple changing rooms.Being apart of Gracie Barra has its own perks as well. As a student of one school you can visit and train at any of the other schools around the world. We are fortunate to have another school just down the road in Sandy under Professor Duwayne and will soon have another school in Park City under Professor Ancelmo.Come check out the school and tell them Crash sent you!
Great place to train for people of all levels. Very welcoming instructors!
As a brand new white belt, it would be hard for me to imagine a better school in which to start my training. Theyve got great facilities, a very supportive group of students, and a wonderful professor. I literally recommend it to everyone I know.
Outstanding academy. It is evident that Professors Rodrigo and Andre are passionate about guiding students and visitors not only to learn this martial art, but to understand how Jiu-Jitsu improves their lives. The material being taught is well-organized, the environment is friendly, and the facilities are clean. I truly encourage those who feel unsure or a little intimidated of stepping into a gym to come and give it a try, you will not regret it.
I train Jiu Jitsu as a woman, mother of 5 who wants to be healthy, feel empowered and strong. Professor Andre and Rodrigo are gifted with all skill levels. My kids all train here and it’s kind of our family thing. The GB community is strong and supportive. I absolutely love it.
Gracie Barra Salt Lake City is great location to learn Brazilian Jiu jitsu. They have amazing Proffesors and great instructors. The facility is very clean and well kept. Gym on site and people ready to roll everyday come on down !
Consider yourself lucky if you live close enough to train at the Gracie Barra BJJ. The State St. location is run by Rodrigo Ziser, who is very professional and teaches a great quality class. BJJs rapid rise in popularity over the last 30-or-so years is entirely due to the Gracie Barra BJJ System. Its intelligent, enthusiastic, evidence-based approach to teaching and developing the art. This location is definitely something special, and you have to experience it first-hand to truly understand. It will change your life. The State St location is up-scale, family friendly, and professional, although make sure you do not walk on the mats with your shoes on.
Great place! Kids are taught well by their professors.
Best gym ever. Awesome instructors. Great culture. Clean mats. One big family. My girlfriend and two kids train. Come join us!! 💯
This is one of the best most inspiring envioments iv been around what they teach my kids and me about self defence and life is pricless. I recommend anyone any age to give this a try and begin a very fun hobby.
I was visiting a friend in SLC who is a student here and they invited me to attend a class. Professors Andre and Rodrigo (sorry if I misspelled) are wonderful teachers. Every other student was a blast to train with. My favorite part was actually watching Professor Andre with my friends three year old son. Andre was patient, played games, taught lessons, did everything you should do to instill a lifelong love of martial arts in a child, or anyone for that matter. If I still lived in SLC, I would absolutely be training with Gracie Barra and their amazing team!
Knowledgeable instructors. Great community!
One of the best martial art school I ever been, ppl should really come to check it out
Awesome Gracie Barra location with classes for all skill levels and a wonderful instructor, highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the Salt Lake area!
An amazing Gracie Barra location. Incredibly welcoming, friendly, and with truly world-class instructors.
The teachers are great
