My puppy was having a bad allergic reaction and they got him in immediately! Absolutely wonderful staff from the first person who answers, assistants and Dr! I was anticipating a long wait and a much higher bill. They were affordable and didn’t make us wait at all! Thank you for putting us at ease and taking such good care of us! Up near Sacramento on vacation when my 1 yr old chocolate lab Rhett fell ill- vomiting, coughing labored breathing and itching. After calling 10 local vets in the area with no one accepting new patients (even for an emergency) I drove an hour to VCA Sacramento, since they were the only clinic who would see him. Upon arrival I was greeted by Allison who took intake on my pup and said he was stable enough to stay and wait in the car with me, which I thought was super nice! Dr Wong came outside and treated my baby curbside- he was so awesome and funny πŸ˜„ was able to diagnose my boy with no need to admit him for unnecessary testing.I was hesitant to bring my dog here from all the poor reviews I did read and was expecting to have to pay an arm and a leg to get him better. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice all the staff was and how straight up Dr Wong was. I would highly recommend this clinic if you are in a bind like I was. Thank you everyone at VCA Sacramento!

In the past I had to bring in one of my cats here for medical treatment, the staff was helpful and professional and saved my cat.Recently, I brought a stray kitten in for some medical treatment. I cannot say enough about the staff and Dr. Wong. While this was a difficult experience, the kind words, professionalism, and understanding, went above and beyond. While we all hope that we never need to take our loved ones in for emergency care, I’m grateful knowing that they are always there to help.

I cant say enough about how awesome Dr. New, Kevin and the entire staff were during my cat Reds treatment! After a horrible experience at Del Paso Clinic I took my cat there for testing and care and thank God I did!At the initial appointment he was given an anti nausea medicine on more which helped tremendously until he could receive a ultrasound. There were times when his new veterinary clinic wasnt able to be reached to get refills and VCA Sacramento didnt hesitate to go above and beyond to make sure Reds refills were available.Sadly my Red was diagnosed with large cell lymphoma and a tumor on his kidney and after discussion with Dr. New it was determined that because of the severity of his condition coupled with his age (15) chemotherapy would not have provided him with a good or lengthy quality of life and my son and I made the heart wrentching and humane decision to allow him to transition in peace alleviating his suffering. In addition to being distraught about what was about to happen I didnt have the money for the euthanasia. I was completing a promissory agreement and before I finished Kevin came in the room and said all the charges were waived. He and Dr. New allowed us time to say goodbye to Red without the additional stress of financial uncertainty. After a week or so of Reds transition the staff sent me the most beautiful sympathy card. I have never experienced this level of compassion! I HIGHLY recommend VCA Sacramento to anyone needing any care of their precious animal(s). Im not saying theyll waive any fees but I guarantee you will not disappointed with the treatment. God bless you VCA!

Had to give one star because there’s no option to give zero.My little dog suffered from congestive heart failure and was on four types of medication. When he showed obvious signs of coming to the end, I was not able to get him into his veterinarian. They referred me to the VCA emergency clinic. This was two days ago and I went there with the sad intention of having my dog put down. After they looked at him, I received a call from the vet there basically saying that my dog still had pep and that I should keep my scheduled appointment with his vet. Pep? It didn’t matter that I told them he was dealing with diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, huge increase in intake of water, loss of balance and sleeping way more than normal.I brought him there because I see him all the time and know that it was the best thing. Evidently, they don’t take into consideration any pertinent information that the owners provide so they did nothing but take my money. Now it’s two days later and I’m taking my dog into his vet to be put down. To the vet that saw him that day...thanks for being absolutely no help to my dog.I’m sure they do some things right but it was all wrong for a sweet little dog. Having my daughter and I go through the gamut of emotions twice in two days it’s not something I would wish on anybodyUPDATE- My dog’s vet put him down today as she listened to what I said was going on and knew it was the humane thing to do. I don’t know if my dog suffered or was uncomfortable the past couple of days after this place did nothing but I definitely hope not. What they showed me is that the dollar is more important than the animal.

My dog had unfortunately swallowed fox tails and the staff here were wonderful from the very start. I was a hot mess and they talked me through everything from the sedation to the possibility of further testing if needed. They were up front and honest which is so helpful in emergencies with your beloved pet. Highly recommend for saving my Rosies life today. I can’t thank you enough. Also, the prices for an ER visit are way more affordable than I thought it was going to be and they tell you the costs of everything they suggest which is such a nice courtesy so you aren’t blind sided at the end of the visit.

Took in my cat, Jack. Had no idea what was wrong... described symptoms, left him in their care. They called me and said hes ready...They supposedly did X-rays and a thorough exam sent him home with pain medicine. The following morning we noticed a giant abscess that they obviously missed. Brought him back they simply shaved the spot and gave him antibiotics. The wound was not cleaned out, their supposed x-rays found nothing, they ran various blood tests and found nothing. All of which we paid for...and their diagnosis was simple and unrevealing. My cat is still experiencing an amount of drainage and pain, and the wound was obviously not taken care of correctly. My wife and I spent over $1,200 to come home and nurse our cat by ourselves.I would not recommend them to anyone else. I believe they were in it for the money and not for the care of animals.

I think the place gives excellent service and great people working there. They handled me and my loss really, really well. I just have an issue with the policy where they take your pet and you are not allowed in while they examine. And I was concerned that last night with my pet, it was nervewracking waiting for them. I have heard more than a few stories where where the pet died while the owner sat in the waiting room. One was a personal friend. Sorry but I would be furious over that. That policy is not good the animal or the owner.

Dr. Casaneda was very informative about Lunas procedure and everything involved. We knew exactly what to expect going into it and what to expect taking her home. The staff was responsive to calls before, during, and after surgery. All information about Lunas surgery and findings were shared with us so we could forward to our regular vet. We were particularly needy too so we appreciated the extra care and patience the staff took with us.The only thing that wasnt positive is that we were quoted an estimate over the phone and then the day before surgery we were given a price nearly double what we were quoted. In the end, we paid only about $600 more than we expected so it wasnt too awful. I feel like the surgical coordinator could have clarified costs better so we could have been more prepared.

I believe that our dog got very good care but the follow-up was terrible. Our dog had surgery there for Mast Cell Tumors. We were told that we would be kept updated about his care. We had to call several times for updates on the day he had surgery. Im sure the surgeon was busy as we finally spoke with him around 11pm.We had a complication, a section of the wound in his chest was not healing and is a gaping wound, so we returned. The vet was kind enough to meet us in the parking lot (to reduce the anxiety of the dog) and a bacteria culture was taken (C&S). We were told by the vet we would be called the next day.We werent called but we called every day after (to see if our dog had an infection or if he is even on the right antibiotics). We kept being told by the receptionist, We dont think the results are back. We can take a message and have someone call you. No one ever did return our calls.Four days after we were told we’d receive a call, we were still unable to obtain any definitive information, the receptionist would not allow us to speak to another vet, nor would she send any results. We were told that that only the vet that performed the surgery could give us information and he would not be back for another 4 days (8 days after taking the sample). In desperation, I contacted the vet via Facebook Messenger saying that I was disappointed I had to do so but I felt I had no other choice in trying to make sure my dog was ok. He then proceeded to tell me how inappropriate I was for contacting him (I don’t disagree but was desperate to discuss what was occurring with my dog.) I just don’t understand why someone couldn’t return my calls to give me any information.UPDATE: I contacted Chris as requested in the owner reply below 4 days ago (April 8, 2021). I have yet to have to receive a reply.

Your wait time will be longer if there are more critical animals that need immediate intervention/life saving measures, so please be patient and kind to your vet staff! Thank you SVRC.

I was so nervous because it was not only our first visit to VCA but it was also the day he would be having surgery. The entire team completely understood my concerns and made me feel so comfortable with the entire process. They called me with updates multiple times throughout the day and really made me feel like they cared about my boy. When it was time to pick him up, they had a nurse speak to me first to make sure I understood on how to care for him. Dr. Rank helped me through one of the most difficult times of my life. I unexpectedly had to say goodbye to my dear fur baby of seven years. She developed acute renal failure and did not have a good prognosis. Dr. Rank clearly communicated with me during my entire visit. She reaffirmed I was making the right decision to end the suffering of my poor sweet cat, Flora. I never once felt rushed or inconvenienced by staff. Everyone was so supportive and made the very difficult time a little better. My partner was over seas visiting family so it was just me going through this difficult time alone, but the staff at VCA made me feel like I had family beside me. Dr. Rank even sent a sympathy card to me a few days after the death of our baby girl, Flora. I definitely recommend VCA, any location, as a place go for the medical care of your beloved pet. Five stars is not enough. Thank you all for all you.

After the surgery the doctor said he was doing very well, we took him home and after a while he started vomiting again, we took him back, got some more tests and were told that the doctor could only find out what the problem was with another surgery for another $8000+-. We feel that we were taken advantage of becuse when your pet is sick you are emmotionally weak and accept anything in order to save your beloved dog. After the surgery and 2 days β€œobservation” at the hospital we took him home only to see him get worse still not eating or drinking we brought him and again for β€œobservation” only to have them recommend another costly surgery ( with no diagnosis or recovery rate) or to put him down. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM WITH UNETHICAL STAFF AND THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY. I cannot imagine the service they give to people who can’t afford their astronomical prices. Do not take your pet to any VCA medical center. I came to this particular hospital with a very sick pup. They were about to charge me $2000.00 to do an ultrasound. I drove 6 1/2 hours north to Oregon and had my pup hospitalized for 3 days over a weekend, had multiple x-rays taken, injections, food and medicine were given all for less than $1200.00. If the vets here really cared about animals they wouldnt try to capitalize on pet owners misery. You should be ashamed of yourselves.Update: 11/01/20Your assurance does nothing for me, when I have seen that your actions speak otherwise. If you really cared about pets and their owners you wouldnt charge 16 to 18 times the normal rate that it takes to treat our pets. Like I said, you should be ashamed of yourselves.... period.

Well, in the past we have relied on this VCA. They saved our baby when she was 6 weeks old. Now she is 8 years old, and I feel the VCA failed her. They didn’t have the staff to treat this emergency. We took our Dog in Friday night. With what appeared to be an eye scratch on infection. They took her blood pressure and did a glaucoma test. Nothing to raid red flag. Sent us home with steroid eye drops. Suggested us follow up with a pet eye doctor. Sunday her second eye started doing the same thing. I called first thing Monday to have some eye place look at her. Here is where I ran into my frustration. Called UC Davis small animal clinic. Was told only way to get her into the UC was to have the doctor call them directly. I literally went and was sitting in UC Davis parking lot waiting for the VCA to call them. First they just emailed, second they called the number I provided them. Which the UC gave me. Apparently The number was messed up. But instead of calling me back or for them to do research to look up the direct line themselves, they didn’t follow up. After army frustration was high, I called them back and had to tell them the direct number. Turns out our baby isn’t doing well and could have bleed out, because the eye issue was a autoimmune disease. Reason was eye because blood vessels were bleeding. The doctors at UC found a bruise on her which grew as they watched it. She was bleeding internally. Make me wonder if VCA was tunnel visioned with the eye to look at bigger picture.Hopefully my determination of calling over and over got her in and saves her life. Another non critical issue with them. To be seen you have to fill out contact form. Which I put all my contact info, but instead of calling the primary, they keep calling my other half’s number. Why have me fill out the forms if you are not going to read them..Email was Sent to Chris Findlay or Marc4th.. week later no response. Dr. OConnell called during that time and took time to explain what they were doing, what Pepper was given, what to expect, shaved and cleaned her eye up. Pepper was brought out shortly afterwards and the assistant took time to go over all details again for us. A few days later, a follow up/courtesy call,Dr. OConnell called to see how Pepper was doing. I had already told the veterinarian the dog was coughing to the point of vomiting but he didnt want to hear any problems that were actually relevant. Turns out this was an infectious disease that transferred to our 10 month old dalmation. Having had to work two days later I had my significant other call to say there was no improvement in our first dog and its spread to our puppy. After refusing to see and treat my dog again he called my voicemail. The facility left a message to follow up with a primary veterinarian ( I had already mentioned to this vet I was traveling for work) about this problem and denied necessity to see the first dog again. This facility falsely diagnosed my dog with esophagitis via an x-ray. Coming from the medical field, I know this is impossible to diagnose with an x-ray, you need an egd. I have zero confidence in this place and was left with a 900$ vet bill and two sick dogs instead of one. I was given medicines with no real instructions and no communication of what was wrong with my dog. The cost at this clinit was literally 6x what my local vet charges. In my experience, we were referred for emergency surgery (during Covid) and the professionalism and manner in which this business operates is what I would caution against. I can’t complain about care but I can let you know that I was asked not once but twice for down payment on surgery prior to my dog even being a candidate for surgery. That means, while waiting for blood and lab work to learn if we could save our dog with surgery or if he had to put down VCA asked for 50% down on the surgery. The estimate: over $11,000. Luckily, we had the surgery and it wasn’t quite that much. On my itemized bill. I was charged for Items not received can’t prove it but fairly certain overcharged for meds not dispensed. I had to call multiple times and finally have my local vet call for the post surgery lab results.I’ve called and I’ve emailed the doctor directly with a concern after surgery. Nothing. If you have an emergency this is the place to go. Don’t mess around with anyone else. We found our 8 year old cat, Mittens on the floor with no movement in her hind legs, she was crying uncontrollably breathing out of control and obviously in lots of pain. This was a very stressful situation for our whole family. We called VAC and they told us to come straight in. Explained the $149 fee to be seen by the ER Vet and then they will give us a valuation and discuss treatment. The moment we walked in the doors (15mins later) they knew what and how to handle the situation with Mittens. Our family of four was crying and obviously upset. The waiting room had about 5 other families with animals waiting on their laps. They took our Mittens into the back immediately and placed us in a private room. Within 10 mins they requested a $500 deposit to increase services/tests needed. Which I was fine with because I knew something was going to be needed, X-Ray’s other tests obviously. Within 10 mins the Vet explained the bad news and what had happened to Mittens. She explained that she didn’t need to take X- Rays or run any other tests to determine that she suffered a saddle thrombus. This is a blood clot that blocked her iliac arteries causes the paralysis of the legs. This is why her feet were cold and she couldn’t feel or move anything. Plus she had congestive heart failure (no signs before) and that’s the reason for the rattle we were hearing in her chest when she was breathing, which happened after the blood clot. It was horrible but we got a straight answer within 15 mins and not having our poor Mittens stressed out going though a handful of expensive tests because the Vets didn’t have enough experience in understanding what was going on. Also I already agreed to $500 in tests a few minutes ago, but experience is what you want on your side in dealing with this kind of emergency. The Vet knew what was happening without running and putting our Mittens though more stress. So it wasn’t the answer we were hoping for but a honest assessment of what’s best for our Mittens. Tough decision for our whole family but made easy by the truth of the Vets experience and the situation of what was in front of us. They discussed what options we had for Mittens remains and we choose to have her cremated and ashes returned to us. We ended up paying a total of $550, which 1/2 of that was because we wanted her cremated and ashes returned to us. So in dealing with a emergency situation I appalled VCA for handling our situation very professionally, giving us privacy for our family during this horrible time, honest billing & treatment practices, experienced ER Vets for fast assessment and foremost compassionate care for our suffering family member. Hope our Mittens finds her friends over the Rainbow Bridge. Rest In Peace

I understand the distancing over Covid 19 but to not allow me in with my dog even to the exam room is crazy. My dog is not familiar with other people and the unfamiliarity and inability to breath must be hard on her. Especially the last time she was at the vets she was dropped hence her first time here. IW in a hospital and they are more strict here than a human hospital. I think they should at least have screening to allow you to be with your pet and have you wear a mask. If she wasnt having a breathing problem I wouldnt be here.

On May 29, 2019, I took my female dog to have an ultrasound on her liver and surrounding organs. The vet. recommended the removal of her gall bladder, spleen and a biopsy of her liver. When I asked if they could aspirate her liver, the reply was she needed to see the architecture of her liver. When I asked for a copy of the ultrasound, I was told we dont save copies, we do it live. Excuse me, but I paid $507.90 for the ultrasound and $190.00 for consultation for a total of $697.90. I think as a consumer, I should get something back for my money. I do not think this is a good way to operate, you may say, you paid for an ultrasound and thats what you got. As a consumer, I expect the proof of the ultrasound and not to go on this is what the doctor says. As you know, medicine is an art. I decided to go for a 2nd opinion elsewhere.

They do not take responsibility for when a surgery does not work out and will deny deny, until you just give up. My dog had double knee surgery there, one knee didnt take and their response was the surgery was a success. And the girls at the front desk can be very rude, depending on which one you get. Overall I would never recommend them. Since I paid several thousand dollars to fix a knee that never got fixed. And when I said maybe the surgery didnt go well they told me it was my fault somehow.

This review is long overdue and I apologize to the VCA. When my dog-son Moose was diagnosed with a life ending diagnosis abruptly at the age of 6 years old, the staff at VCA did an exceptional job of doing what they do. Every facet of their response was top notch, from a quick admission, taking nearly immediate action, helping me understand the decision I had to make, etc all the way through the follow up letter and plaster paw print. I cannot thank or recommend this organization enough - they made a horrible life experience as pleasant as possible for me and my family.

We cant predict when life will end. Whoever we are and wherever we may be I think one would want peace for when the day comes. Pressed on time we found ourselves at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center for our family feline Dr. Pepper to be put to rest. This review is for Katherine Sanui the Associate Veterinarian. Her empathy and ability to be present in the moment for my family was the consolation they needed for the inevitable. There was no haste. Her assessment before the procedure was thorough. She still presented options with what could be done if still desired. Although, the quality of life was chosen over more suffering.Dr. Peppers IV was in without any troublesome. He came back to us in the waiting room more at ease wrapped in a blanket. For them to allow all the time needed to spend the last moments with him was greatly appreciated. The difference it makes when saying goodbye. In the end with Dr. Katherines sincere words and caring hands she was able to reassure my family he passed with no pain.Treatment for the beloved ones is expensive. That can be said for any other practicing clinic or hospital. At the convenience of 24 hours a day for your pet I think the expenses will be forgotten when all is done. Thank you VCA Sacramento for everything you did to make our visit a peaceful experience.

After speaking with someone who does work at the clinic blood work was suppose to be taken and that never was done. If you need to take your dog to the ER save your money and go somewhere else where they will actually help you and not tell you what you already knew going in.

I have been going here for about the last 8-10 years, and I have always had great care for my pets -- and for me. One dog had complicated leg surgery. One dog had diabetes and an intestinal condition. One had respiratory problems. The cat had a cancerous mass on his ear. All have been treated well and compassionately. Even when we had to let a couple of them go, their final experience was loving and kind. A few of the general practice doctors have moved on, but I love Dr. Johnson and Dr. Wong who also steps in. The office staff and techs are so friendly and kind as well. My dog likes going there, gets excited to see Dr. Johnson, and has made friends with all the tech. Their services and specialty doctors are wonderful as well. Ive often told them I wish I could come to them for treatment for myself.!!

VCA Sacramento treated us with compassion immediately upon entering the center. We walked in, they asked if we were Calvins parents (Id called ahead) and immediately announced triage in the waiting room. Calvin was immediately examined, diagnosed, and surgery was successfully performed within a few hours. They clearly communicated our treatment options, over-estimated the price a bit to give us a worst case scenario, and really helped us to make an educated decision. We had our little guy home in a day, with frequent follow up calls by the vet. They were extremely professional and compassionate. More concerned with making money than treating my cat. I brought my cat here due to shortness of breath and some sort of eye infection. They charged $140 for the visit, and another $50 for a 10 day round of antibiotics. That was all great! Then..giving my cat a pill was comparable to having a root canal. He was not having any part of it. So I waited to see if the infection would get better with the 3 pills I managed to get down his throat. It didnt. I called the vet back and asked for the same prescription in the liquid form. They denied it and said I would need to pay the $140 exam fee again. Unbelievable! I will never go back there.

In 2016 we had the sad experience of taking in 3 of our kitties to be put to sleep because they were old and their bodies were worn out. The kitties were a mom and her two kittens that we found in the bushes in 1998. They had good long lives and we found that this VCA facility being a 24 hour facility works best for us. When the time came for each kitty, we were able to take them in late in the evening when it was quiet and peaceful. We were allowed to take out time and the staff was respectful, as were the vets who administered the medication. We had each kitty cremated and they were returned in a beautiful wood box along with a colorful ceramic disc with their name and paw print. I hope to not have to repeat this experience for a long time, but will certainly return to this VCA facility. Thank you.

Thanks Lauren, my dog is now dead. i talked to her co workers and they couldnt believe she did that . if you want your pet to live dont bring them here! He was my fur baby! As far as the manager, i keep trying to talk to, I get the run around! not in with someone at lunch out of town: Ans NOW that Brutus is dead you want to make it right? A little late for that, dont ya think????Update: Ive spoken with Lauren and the manager who both agreed that things werent handled correctly. They were both quite sympathetic and apologetic about the way things went. Im sure now, if it happened again, things would turn out differently. my dog would never have survived his injuries but being put down humanely instead of suffering as he did would have been the best thing for him. thank you for acknowledging the mistakes that were made and taking the time to talk to me about it.

They wanted us to either rush her into surgery (which may have killed her because she was so weak), put her to sleep, or take her home to die.
