Great people, great facility! I have been to RVA Performance for a series of weightlifting meets and also as a drop-in to lift while in Richmond. They have great communication and are easy to work with. The lifting area is always clean (before the pandemic and now as well). The platforms are even and well spaced and they all have their own weights and racks. I would highly suggest this gym to weightlifters. They also have a team if you are based in Richmond! I imagine the other classes, such as group general fitness classes are also top notch, but I am strictly a weightlifter so I have not tried those. Thanks RVA!

I first joined back in early 2013 on a whim. Left for a good number of years due to work schedule, but returned in 2020. Even in my absence, I was still a part of the family. The communication between the gym and members is fantastic, and the extra steps theyve taken during covid have been great. The coaching staff is well informed, friendly, super positive!

When I started at RVAPT last summer, it didn’t take long for me to notice the social toxicity at this gym. The exclusiveness of certain members fosters an uninviting environment. I was targeted by certain members for not fitting into their “clique” and was made to feel so unwelcome at the gym by certain members that I could no longer attend it for its sole purpose, to exercise and grow as an athlete. The very apparent friendships of certain head coaches with only select members fueled the toxic environment I experienced and ultimately made me decide to leave. If you are looking for an environment to workout where people encourage your fitness and DON’T drag you into uncomfortable personal situations, then I would highly recommend NOT going to this gym.

I haven’t been to RVA performance training for years, since way before the name changed from CrossFit RVA. In fact, my first workouts were in Jake Rowell’s back yard, and I watched them transition through several spaces over the years, and have yet to see their newest space. All I can say is if you have the chance to work with these guys DO IT. Jake personally trained me from 0% knowledge to competition level Olympic weightlifting, and his careful and considerate coaching have kept me relatively injury free and still training and getting stronger on my own since the day I walked out of his gym for the last time 12 years ago to move across the country. I wish I could still train there, but alas, life has me elsewhere.If you’re serious about your fitness, performance, strength, and general well being, you absolutely cannot go wrong by working with RVA Performance Training.

Great Place! Awesome workouts and coaches. The coaches are friendly, knowledgeable and will always take the time to work with you personally if you have goals you want them achieve ! The equipment are always cleaned after workout throughly.

One of the best things about RVA Performance Training has always been communication. Jake and the rest of the team always do their best to be transparent with what is going on with the gym. As someone who went to the gym in person back in 2015 before moving to a new state, I was extremely excited when they started their RVAPT Online program in response to COVID precautions. Now, I get to work on my own fitness goals with the support of a solid program and amazing coaches from anywhere. CJ, Kathryn, and Gerry do such a great job leading these online classes you almost dont miss physically being in the gym.

So this was my first time Into RVA Performance, and I have to say it was one of the best experiences you can get! Rashid was a complete professional! He asked a lot of questions, discussed goals, addressed all of my concerns. He was very clear and up front about what RVA Performance is all about, and made me.feel very Comfortable while we were going over movements, addressing mobility etc etc. Went through the intro workout and signed up immediately afterwards. Cant wait to get going with this, I highly recommend RVA Performance!

I joined a few months ago and am finding a wonderful community here. Everyone is working hard to better themselves and their strength/skills; it’s a great supportive atmosphere to be in. The workouts are a great challenge, never boring. I love the changes I’m seeing in both my body and my attitude - highly recommend checking it out!

RVA Performance Training is the best!Coming from someone who has traveled(lived) up and down the east coast Ive been to a ton of other boxes and this one is on another level. Filled with people that are trying to be a better version of themselves daily makes for a very enjoyable experience. Not to many days go by before someone hits a PR or a first (Pull-up, Muscle up, Double Under). If you are looking for a place with a great community atmosphere full of coaches who love what they do this is it.

Joined Crossfit RVA a year ago, and it has turned out to be one of the best decisions Ive ever made. The instructors are fantastic and provide world class instruction. The community is second to none. I wouldnt imagine working out anywhere else. Also youll get stronger and faster. So thats pretty cool too.

From the first day I walked into Performance RVA, I realized I was never, ever, EVER going to go to another gym. Jake and Kat, the owners, are awesome. They embody exactly what it takes to be successful. These guys care!I’ve only had the utmost respect, kindness, and guidance from members and trainers both, in the year I’ve been at this gym.I did day to day membership to see how it went, while I was a member of another gym before I joined. My former gym was great. My whole family was there. So was my coach. But something was missing. And I felt it to my core. I struggled with the management. They didn’t care. I even reached out to my former gym’s management via email, even just to praise my coach, or to say I appreciated my coaches response to a gym accident, and for him taking me to the emergency room.Unfortunately, every email fell on deaf ears. The gym wanted to stay so corporate, they decided it was better to ignore my praise towards the way their trainer reacted in a gym emergency, and refused to acknowledged my letter.So I looked for a new gym. And when I found Performance RVA, I found a gym that cared: that listened. A gym that ASKED for members to speak up and be involved. I loved the members, the instructors, and the amazing coaching. I told everyone at my former gym how supportive and strong the Performance RVA gym family was.Jake, the weightlifting coach has top athletes. If you are interested in weightlifting, or are already an avid weightlifter, he’s your coach in the Greater Richmond Area. One of his athletes is representing Team USA at an international competition. Enough said.I’m an awkward girl. I don’t make friends easily, but Jake encourages an environment of community and partnership. Everyone looks out for each other, and people have always been kind and welcoming to me from day 1. This gym community is what makes me never want to leave. I’ve learned it’s not the same in most gyms, but at Performance RVA, it’s a basic expectation. And that’s why I love this place.Jake, Chris, Megan, Nate, Gerry, Rashid, and the rest of the trainers have been amazing, and their leadership is what continues to motivate me to keep showing up.I can’t quit, won’t quit, Performance RVA, because these guys care. And that matters.

Joined RVA after being at another local box for 1.5 years and haven’t looked back since! I’ve seen countless PRs in my almost 3 years here, and it’s all thanks to the knowledgeable staff. I love the various programs offered here (CrossFit, RVA Fit, Barbell, Yoga) and the one on one training available as well. You can tell the staff is passionate about what they do and that makes a huge difference. Couldn’t imagine training anywhere else!

Well. I tried to join, but i guess its not that easy. I went in to join based on reviews and what I’d seen. I was told i needed a tour and to schedule one for the following week.After booking, I receive a message that my scheduled time can’t be accommodated due to scheduling conflicts. Apparently only ONE person can schedule and sign people up.I got the gut instinct this wasn’t the place for me. Signed up with another place instead, for a much cheaper price and less attitude.I’m sure the programs are great, I’ll never know now. Thanks CJ and team.10/16/18 updateThanks for reaching out. People should know what to expect and that there will be a screening unlike other fitness establishments. I did not say the staff was rude or not professional. RVA Performance has amazing members and coaches, which really creates a welcoming environment. They offer outstanding services with their group classes that can accommodate anyone regardless of their goals. RVA also offers access to PTs (onsite) and massage therapists that have helped many in the gym. If youre into Olympic weightlifting then this is the place to be in Richmond. RVA had great equipment and have invested a tremendous amount in their barbell program including a beginners course that is growing every cycle. Cannot recommend this place highly enough, its amazing! Come see for yourself.

What I found was a supportive and welcoming community, knowledgeable instructors, and a new training program that includes CrossFit and barbell. By far the best decision Ive made since moving to Richmond.

The gym and it’s staff are excellent. The facility has a wonderful setup. I went for a workout challenge here and received great words of encouragement. The workouts are friendly to all age groups, and provide a nice challenge. I would definitely attend the gym again.

CrossFit RVA has by far the most knowledgeable instructors in the Richmond area. The gym is one of the largest facilities Ive been to with several different programs (weightlifting, strongman, endurance, RVA Fit, and yoga) not normally offered at a CrossFit only gym. Always accepting of drop-ins and new members. Couldnt imagine going anywhere else for strength and conditioning.

Came here for a free group class and had a great time. Place had just opened so they still had some construction going on, and the place was a little hard to find, but the class itself was an amazing work out. They made it easy for a beginner and made sure everyone went at their own pace. That said I my thighs were sore for days because of all the squats. It was a good burn though.

Great variety in their offerings. The super serious can do barbell work. The serious can do CrossFit. And the serious about staying fit (like me) can do RVA Fit, the non barbell, bootcamp style workout. Check it out.

I have never been to a more friendly, professional or personally investing Performance Training/CrossFit facility!Every time I go, Im greeted warmly and every time I take a fitness course, Im pushed beyond what I thougth my limits were and leave feeling accomplished! I have, personally, attended CJs classes and I can honestly say that his attention to detail and client development is inspiring and extremely motivating!I would recommend RVA Performance Training to anyone and everyone looking for a challenging facility that will help them reach their goals and feel empowered whole doing it!

Be ready for a workout. Most gyms and their trainers are quick to boast about how difficult their workouts are. While Crossfit RVA isn’t one to gloat, instead they let you try it out for yourself. The staff is excellent and their facilities are top notch.

Ive been a member of RVAPT for just over two years and can confidently say this is the best gym Ive ever been a part of, whether in terms of the quality of programming and instruction, breadth of offerings, or sense of community. While I originally came to RVAPT for the CrossFit classes Ive been lucky enough to get to expand my fitness with the gyms RVAFit and Barbell classes, which are awesome. I especially love how inclusive the RVAFit classes are: no matter your fitness level you will get a great workout in in a supportive, non-competitive, and welcoming community.

I have been consistently impressed with these guys over the past 2 years. They have helped me recoup from shoulder ROM limitations that stem from an old injury years ago. Rather than shy away from my incessant questions, the instructors are always super informative with advice and scaling when needed. The move to pair everyone with specific instructor so they can have individualized coaching while working on long and short term goals was an attention to detail that I didnt expect. It has helped challenge my athleticism and increase my skill set in ways that I was not expecting. I highly recommend CrossfitRVA to both new and seasoned athletes who enjoy cross-training.

CrossFit RVA is more than a gym. It allows me to meet new friends, laugh with old friends while reaching goals I thought I wouldnt achieve. Ive never been able to do a lot of the required movements before CrossFit but since Ive continued to push myself and stayed consistent, I can say Im happy with my results and where I am today. That is thanks to great coaches, flexible class schedules and the ability to scale/adjust the workouts to better fit my level of ability so I am not discouraged to continue.Huge thanks to those who didnt push too hard but hard enough to encourage me to finish every workout successfully.#GymFam#LoveYall

By far the best crossfit facility in central virginia!! The facility is huge, the equipment is fabulous and most important the coaching/instruction whatever your age or fitness level is awesome, they provide great scaling options for everyone! I wouldnt go anywhere else!

Hard to find but so worth it! So many great programs! From CrossFit to RVAFit, yoga to massage and basics classes on barbell and gymnastics theres something for everybody.I dont usually participate in the extra programs/services a gym offers but here theyre so accessible its easy to get involved. Id hate to go a week without the meals from Human Food, Yoga Sundays are great, Ive learned a ton (not literally) at Barbell Basics, and recently had an amazing massage. Not to mention getting cold brewed coffee on tap on the way out of crossfit class. Its all so easy to do.Last but most importantly, the coaches are wonderfully motivating and knowledgeable especially in being able to accommodate those of us who are beginners and/or have physical issues (like old age in my case). Im always amazed at what I can accomplish with a little pushing/coaching from them!

Becoming a part of the family!Let me start by saying that my wife and I have had really wonderful experiences at both the Crossfit gyms weve been a part of since we started a couple years ago. In fact, Id say weve been spoiled by the camaraderie, coaching, and community at those gyms. Therefore, when it came time for us to make an unavoidable switch based on a recent move, we were both extremely nervous about how RVA Performance would stack up, and whether wed find a home here.Roughly 3 months later, I can now say that we have indeed found ourselves a part of the RVA family!From the very beginning, not only were we welcomed by everyone we met, we were taken care of. We could sense early that the staff here werent just concerned with us as another number added to their membership, but truly cared about our experience. When it comes to Crossfit boxes, the choice is as much about fit as it is fitness, and the staff here have been super diligent about assessing the needs of the athletes, and executing to meet those needs.Some of the things about RVA Performance that weve come to LOVE are:1. A serious variety of programs that are staffed by extremely knowledgeable, caring coaches. During any given week, we can participate in RVAFit, Yoga, Crossfit, Barbell Club and other classes. The great part is, these are all included in our membership. Crossfit alone is constantly varied, but having access to these other programs gives us amazing options for our fitness desires and needs.2. A coaching staff that is very very good at what they do. They are ALL attentive, super responsive, and clearly love helping us meet OUR goals, while having a lot of fun.3. No pressure to become the next [insert Crossfit Games contender here]. Coming to RVA Performance, every athlete is working on becoming a better, more fit version of themselves. Though competition is present, its fun and its evident that its meant to motivate individuals to individual improvement, not necessarily peer to peer comparison (this is important). Essentially, you will get what YOU need each and ever workout.4. Uber family-friendly environment. Of course as a family that includes 5 children, its important that my kids parents gym also be a place that they are welcome and can eventually call their gym. They are. Again, we didnt know if wed find a place that this was true again after leaving our previous two gyms (which also were very family friendly and accommodating).5. GAINZ!!!! The measure of the programming of a gym is improved fitness. When we came back from California, we hadnt worked out in 2 months solid. I know for sure that in my short time at RVA Performance, Im right back to where I thought Id never be again. I was seriously so out of shape when I arrived that I was hesitant to ever go back to Crossfit.Because of the fun, stress-free environment-I literally just show up, and the results have been beyond my expectation. From the warm up, till the clock hits zero the programming has been challenging, and EFFECTIVE.I know this is a long review, but if youre looking for a gym on the Northside of Richmond, I would say your search should start and end at RVA Performance Training.......

I joined Crossfit RVA about 6 months ago and have seen major improvements in all my lifts because we have the best Crossfit coaches in the local area. All our members are super nice and willing to help each other with their movements. Super glad I joined this gym, Ill probably never leave. Thanks, my CrossfitRVA community.
