I was excited to try this place- the booking process was very easy via Google and they had availability day of. However, once I asked what the price was for a basic mens cut, I had to cancel and look elsewhere. I cant justify spending $60 on a very basic haircut. I barely paid half that when I lived in Manhattan.

Barber of Hell’s bottom is fantastic. Everyone is passionate and wonderful to talk to. Big Nic gives a wonderful haircut and she always makes me laugh.Their free touch-up program is also an excellent service that I take full advantage of.

Decent fade and top cut by two different barbers. Not the best I have ever had but definitely good enough to go back. Wish they had more precision on the fade and style on the top. Very costly for a beard shape up. Most places include it or at least it’s 10 bucks and under. Here they estimated 25 so I did it at home in five minutes. They do not provide you with any booze which is a bummer but it’s still covid times. I do not like that some barbers give you a head massage and wash your hair while others don’t. I wish it was streamlined. Although I would go back for a third cut there are better barbers at a place down the street and I only changed from there because of scheduling.

I just had literally the best haircut of my life. Dom cut my hair today and did en excellent job. She was very personable and detail oriented. I had my neck straight razored and hair shampooed at the end. The place is very clean and my appointment started right on time. I walked out feeling like the hot dad on the block!

Honestly the atmosphere is great and low-key and everyone is very nice. Rich and Nic have both cut my hair before and did a great job. I also highly recommend this place if youre LGBT+ and dont want to go to salons.

Great spot. Feels like a real barber shop but with a “hipster” vibe. Things feel hands on and crafted. This is the type of place you could feel “uncool” in, but the friendliness of everyone makes it easy.My only real negative on this place is you could get a cheaper haircut... but when I say that out loud I feel bad for myself and for barbers everywhere.

Was frustrated with never loving my hair no matter where I went to get my haircut (NOVA or Richmond) til I came here. I was recommended to go to Anthony and I was skeptical at first due to the price but at this point I just said I might as well because I was losing hope Id ever really figure my hair out. From the moment I got to the shop all the staff were super welcoming, Anthony genuinely cares about you looking the best/getting you the result you want. He doesnt just listen to you and do what he wants, he talks to you throughout the process to make sure you understand why hes doing what hes doing to make sure there is 0 miscommunication and you leave happy. I entered confused on the direction I wanted to take my hairstyle and left having a sense of where Im taking it and feeling way more confident about it. If you are at all just not sure what to do with your hair or feel like you cant figure out whats best, I HIGHLY suggest checking this place out and going to Anthony. Its 100% worth it and I will be going back regularly.

I have a lot of surgical scars on my head, including fairly large dents that make it difficult to get haircuts. In fact, I had been going to the same barber for 10 years before I moved to Richmond. I was very nervous but decided to give this place a shot. Rich was great, everything was clean, comfortable, and after I told him he made sure that I was alright the entire time. I look great, feel great, and Ill definitely be coming back. Thank you Rich and everyone else at Hells Bottom.

I’m a man and this is the first place I ever paid $35 for a haircut so I was skeptical at first. However, after learning that I get a free cleanup between haircuts and then seeing the quality of the service I receive, I think it’s a fair price. I’ve been coming here consistently now for five months and will continue to do so.

Ive jumped around barber shops in the city for over a decade, and Barber of Hells Bottom has been my go to for quite a while now. Its the best combination of talent and experience Ive found. I dont get my hair cut as therapy or anything, but its nice going to a place and not feeling rushed or crowded. They take their time and clearly care about what theyre doing. While I havent taken advantage of this, they offer a complimentary touch up a few weeks later when the sides grow out a bit. Ryan is the only guy Ive seen there, and hes awesome. Down to earth, funny, conversational, very likeable dude. And importantly hes excellent with scissors. Hes routinely given me great cuts, very consistent. Hes never had an off day. I strongly endorse this place, and would recommend it to anyone.

The best barbershop I’ve ever been to! They washed my hair to start. The barber asked lots of good questions about my vision. And the hot towels for the shave makes it all worth it. I am very pleased with my haircut and I walked out feeling like a million bucks.

Now Im a pretty easy-going fella - its not common for me to actively dissuade others from doing something even if I didnt have a great experience. However, unless youre looking for a run-of-the-mill fade, then you should avoid this barber shop at all costs.Ive been fortunate to have experienced hair-dressers since I was eight years old so this is the first time in nearly twenty years that Ive donned a bad haircut. Not just bad: truly sad.The barber quickly appeared in over his head. Some of the highlights:- He only cut one of my sideburns. I left the store with one of my sideburns straight and level-off and the other completely untouched.- He applied three different styles of product to my hair (gel, mousse & spray).- After each product application, he proceeded to irregularly cut up to a half-inch off of hair across sections of my head.- Several times, the barber turned me away from the mirror and then stood behind me to prevent me from watching what he was doing / how it was going.- The barber frequently cut my hair directly into my face, requiring me to take the hair out of my mouth several times.- The barber placed my drink on a ledge under his workstation, causing the drink to fill with my hair.- My hair now sits awkwardly and uncomfortably patchily on my head.This place is truly horrible for anyone that doesnt want a fade. Again, if you want a fade - Im sure this place is great as every other person in the shop was equipped with that hair style. However, if you dont want a pseudo-upscale Super Cuts experience, then go elsewhere.Pro tip: if the other barbers in the shop dont let your barber cut their hair, get out of that chair ASAP!Cheers,A

I first came here over a year ago after a bad trim at a great clips. I was able to walk in and meet Ryan. He hooked me up, I now will not have anyone else cut my hair. The entire staff there is AMAZING. Hairs cuts are great also the beard trim and hair wash is calm and relaxing! Nearly fall asleep everytime!

Best fade I have had in a longtime. As someone who has there haircut every 2 weeks due to being hairy as a maf. I can say Sheenas cuts are on point. Her attention to detail surpasses anybody I have the pleasure of cutting this old mop. She turns mud ducks into swans and nickles into dimes. Check them out, ask for Sheena.

I use to travel all the way to Harrisonburg just to get a haircut because I couldnt find a barber in town that could properly cut my hair. One day a friend recommended I stop by BoHB and Ive been coming here ever since. Staff is super cool, the remember me every time I walk through the door, the barber (Anthony) remembers my formula for how I like my hair cut and they play cool music. Couldnt recommend this spot more. Glad I finally found a local barber that can do a cool, classy yet modern cut with expertise.
