After moving to NC and researching different schools in the area I landed on Gracie Raleigh, and I’m really happy I did. It’s a place where I know I can always come to focus and learn. The instructors here pull from real world experience and competition, and they know how to break down Jiu jitsu into bite sized pieces. I think the best part of this group is that you can train at whatever level you want. If you want to be competitive you can find that here, if you want to focus on your fitness or if you‘re just starting and want to try it out, you will find people that are interested in the same thing and on the same level as you. It’s an all around welcoming environment. They also have an awesome kids program here. It’s really cool to see a school that genuinely enjoys teaching younger kids about grappling/jiu Jitsu, and the parents are excited about it too.Hopefully this helps, I would definitely recommend this place!

Really nice folks. They are very welcoming to beginners and the prices are not bad at all. They sell all the equipment you need for any of their classes, which I thought was really cool. They have a wide variety of courses for beginners or experienced members, so it stays fresh. I have had nothing but good experiences and am having a lot of fun! If you want to learn to defend yourself, get some exercise, or just try something new, this place is worth a shot.

Gracie Raleigh is by far the best BJJ gym I have ever been to. It is a great full body workout both physically and mentally. It also improves flexibility and equips you with the knowledge and skills to protect yourself. The instructors and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Everybody who trains at the gym is always trying to help each other and themselves improve. The students that train at Gracie all have different goals they want to get out of training, and Gracie meets all of the goals. Whether you just want to train for a good workout, acquire self defense skills, or make a career out of marital arts Gracie Raleigh covers all the above. I highly recommend this gym and a google review does not do it justice.

From the first time I walked in the door at Gracie Raleigh, the coaches, staff, and other members of the gym have only been friendly and helpful. I had no marital arts background when I joined Gracie, but that did not stop them from warmly welcoming me. Coming up on 5 years with Gracie, and I have never regretted joining this gym. It is an incredible learning environment, with an incredible staff and team environment. Many thanks to Brandon and his coaches for creating a great atmosphere!

All the coaches are knowledgeable and will go above and beyond to help you. I have been training there for 5 plus years and dont ever see myself any where else.

My son has been training at Gracie Raleigh since he was 6 years old. He is now 9. He loves it and we love it. He usually comes 3 days a week, but we have the flexibility to skip a day. His prior coach Evan had a very gentle style that didnt show off. Coach Tom used to help out and is now the full time main coach. He is equally awesome in a very different way. Tom is the classic coach that knows how to control a room of kids, make them try harder, and make them feel confident. I appreciate that assistant coaches also help out! Coach Amber is great at correcting kids firmly but gently. She pushes them to challenge themselves but not too far. Beyond JuJitsu my son is learning confidence, resilience and responsibility. I want him to be able to overcome things that feel impossible. JuJitsu has been great for this.

My children have been in the The Gracie Raleigh Juniors Jiu-Jitsu program for a few years now. I cannot express how wonderful this program is. The teachers are so dedicated and they are teaching them not only Jiu-Jitsu skills, but also life lessons that my sons will carry with them. They have so much more confidence, patience and respect. I owe it to Gracie Raleigh!

Gracie Raleigh is a top notch place for anyone who wants to learn BJJ!Its location is great, right in the heart of downtown next to the Wilmington street parking deck (which is only free after 6:45). Its great having a place like this in Raleigh. The gym itself is very sweet. It is always kept clean and tidy. There is a LOT of mat space. The atmosphere is friendly and as such it was easy for me to dive in even as a younger guy with no previous experience. Both instructors, Jason (brown belt) and Brandon (black belt), are clearly very knowledgeable in the sport and I know that they are genuinely concerned with my personal progress. If you have any desire at all to learn, I recommend that you at least come check out Gracie Raleigh!

Gracie Raleigh has become one my favorite places to be. As a sixteen year old I started growing an interest in martial arts and very luckily stumbled into Gracie Raleigh. I was welcomed in with open arms by a staff of amazing people who are all lifelong martial artists and all love the sport. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, never refusing to help anyone. Since joining not only have I gained a love for athletics but the discipline and confidence instilled in me by training has improved my life at school. I can honestly say starting Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai at Gracie Raleigh was a great decision and I would recommend them for if you have no idea what Jiu Jitsu is or are a world champ.

With my work and family schedule, the only time I could train is early mornings. A couple years ago, these guys saw my dilemma and were the only ones who offered to sacrifice their sleep to train me between 5-7am. This kind of passion and dedication to the sport is infused in how they run Gracie Raleigh. They provide a very clean environment in which they train their students methodically and safely. They are natural teachers - very good at explaining and demonstrating the hows and whys - and they have an obvious desire to see their students - and visitors - learn new techniques and improve on old ones.A huge plus is the clean and fully stocked shower! Im able to get a full session in, shower, and go straight to work. Im no longer limited to mornings - I can go anytime during the day and still go back to work feeling refreshed. The new mats are awesome and make for a massive training area.Im looking forward to many more years of training at Gracie Raleigh!

Today is roughly the 1 year anniversary of my membership and it has been much, much more than what I expected walking in that door on day one for my free trial. Evan was patient and funny, and really took the nerves out of the learning curve. Despite being a mixed bag of jiu jitsu players, there is a solid sense of unity and team while remaining welcoming to new comers or visiting players alike. I feel extremely fortunate for having Gracie Raleigh as my gym and I recommend them to anybody whos interested in training or challenging themselves.

For those that are looking for a new hobby for themselves or their kids: In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I have found an intricate game that is extremely challenging and fun to play, a full-body-workout that will make you leaner and more limber, and a useful skill that makes you harder to kill. I cant think of many other sports/hobbies that give you all three benefits. For those that already train but are relocating to Raleigh or just need a new gym: Ive been training here for 3 years and have my blue belt. I have two children, age 6 and 7, that have been training for ~6 months. Gracie Raleigh excels in all of the things I find important in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym for both myself and my kids.1) Coaching: Brandon, Jason, and Andrew differ from each other in their grappling styles and physical attributes, which in turn, offers exposure to the full spectrum of Jiujitsu as a sport and fighting art. What they each share is the ability to breakdown concepts and techniques for their students, as well as giving you systems of moves over a series of classes. For the kids class,, the above praise also applies to Coach Thom and Amber. They are amazing at commanding a class of children, as well as teaching them lessons that apply as much off the mats, as they do on them.2) Students: There is an amazing culture here where everyone is helping each other improve. That means being attentive training partners when drilling moves, and it also means giving each other challenging rolls while not injuring each other.3) Physical space: the mat space is plentiful and accommodates large classes, and the mats are disinfected daily without fail.BJJ and Gracie Raleigh has positively impacted my kids and myself to such a massive degree that it is impossible for me to do it justice in a google review. Try it out and see for yourself.

I highly recommend Gracie Raleighs kids class. The instructors run very balanced classes combining jiu-jitsu skills, anti-bullying, and personal responsibility. About a year ago, my daughter started taking classes. She has always been very shy and nervous but the last year has been hugely transformative for her confidence and personal growth as a direct result of her jiu-jitsu training. Shes now competing and enjoys helping new kids in class.

I read about gracie jujitsu helping children defend against bullying and also being a great resource to help bullies themselves. As my child had been chronically bullied by her sister, extended family and in school, she had the worst of both worlds: she was a target and as a defense mechanism had adopted bullying behaviors. So I cut out all toxic relatives, decided to homeschool, and was overjoyed to find the was a gracie studio right here in Raleigh. We enrolled her in the childrens class, bought the hundred dollar gi, and started attending. The regular childrens class instructor had no business teaching kids from what I saw; his star pupil took my daughter down out of nowhere and refused to let her go until I intervened before class even began one day, and feeling threatened and at risk immediately triggered aggressiveness and disruption during class time which the instructor did nothing to correct; she pushed another little boys face into the mat that day making him cry and I was so horrified we did not return after instructor did nothing to either protect or teach that little boy or to correct my child. There was another instructor who filled in one day that handled the class beautifully, was watchful throughout, and even told my daughter she would be suspended from a week of classes if she continued to misbehave and like magic, she responded to firm, helpful guidance and immediately tuned in to the lesson. Unfortunately, he was not the kids regular instructor and her behavior degraded under the regular instructor.I cant speak to adult classes, but as for children, if your child had no issues with focus or behavior or trauma, they may be ok. If your child has any of the problems that gracie jujitsu claims to help with, Id definitely look elsewhere.

This is a great gym. I have been a member for 2 months now and plan to stay. I was intimitated by the fact I had no martial arts or MMA experience but its been great. First, Ive learned a lot about the basics of kickboxing, and some advanced material as well. I already can tell a difference in my confidence level when it comes to self-defense. Second, Ive been challenged and pushed to get into better shape. And most importantly, Ive made friends. The people who teach and attend the classes are friendly and encourage the newcomer. Highly recommended.

Weather you are doing it for Self defense, Weight loss, Competition, or for fun youll fit right in and see your goals actualized.I had done some martial arts before coming to Gracie Raleigh but after an injury and college picking up I took a hiatus until my significant other told me the wanted to start martial arts. 1 year later and were both still attending classes regularly and cant get enough! The gym has Muay thai, BJJ, and MMA classes and they have a flexible schedule so you can find a time to train any day of the week. The instructors and students are highly qualified and are always looking to get to that next level.

Gracie Raleigh is a terrific place to train, and one Id recommend to anyone near downtown Raleigh. Its a beautiful space that is easily accessible; the facilities and equipment are excellent. I just moved to Raleigh from DC where I trained BJJ for 2.5 years. I was looking for a new school down here so I tried out Gracie Raleigh first and knew immediately that it was the BJJ school for me. All three instructors Brandon (Royce Gracie black belt), Jason W. (Royce Gracie brown belt), and Jason J. (Ralph Gracie brown belt) are excellent, skilled teachers and offer different styles of instruction and jiu jitsu. All three are very friendly and very supportive and open to any questions that you may have while training and they all strongly emphasize technique above all else.Everyone here trains hard but fosters a friendly environment, and a lot of people are friends outside of training and get together for UFCs and grappling events. The academy is kept very clean and is conveniently located in downtown Raleigh. The school also offers a kickboxing class which I havent tried yet but plan on starting soon.

Dont listen to the negative reviews on this site because the person who wrote them is not only hiding behind the internet but hiding behind a fake name. If he had spoken his mind and shared his feelings to the instructors they would have taken that to heart and helped them along their way. Instead they jumped on their keyboard and decided to try and ruin a business started up by two stand up guys.Brandon is a black belt and a fantastic fighter. His Muay Thai classes are great and youll leave just that much better after every class. And if youre interested in a workout youll definetly get a great sweat on and bag work can really work you out.The Jiu Jitsu classes are just as great and the instruction is top notch. Really their isnt anything to complain about because this place has great instruction and a great atmosphere. I came into the school as one of the only teens amongst adults and instead of having an akward time we quickly came together under Brandon and Jasons teachings. And theyre so confident theyll give you a week to try it free.
