I have had the pleasure to work with Debbie as an occupational therapist working with a shared student with significant learning differences and organizational challenges. Together, we collaborated on goals and approaches that helped this student move beyond his old habits and routines that persistently interfered with his ability to complete and turn in work. In particular, this student struggled with note taking and comprehension in his Algebra class. She found ways to help him understand and learn Algebra when more conventional approaches were not working. This had a marked impact on boosting his confidence and willingness to keep trying. Debbie is an effective and personable communicator who spends time and effort to get to know her students and the people that comprise an educational team. She understands sensory and motor challenges that can have a negative impact on productivity. She is able to work with these these sorts of challenges in a way that helps students build self awareness while bolstering self esteem. Debbie uses best practice models to work with complex learning profiles, and is willing and able to revise approaches as new insights into her students emerge. I have recommended other students to her practice based on my overwhelmingly positive experience with her over the past year.
