First time here. Angela would not tolerate being late. She was furious when I showed up 15 minutes late. I had called to let them know and nobody picked up or called back. I was going to leave or propose to do just one service instead of the two services but ultimately she agreed to do the full service. She just kept yelling “it’s not ok! It’s not ok” and ordered me to undress while telling me how valuable her time is. I felt very uncomfortable, she didn’t give me any privacy at all and I was lying there naked (for a Brazilian) when she started with brows. She only covered me after 10 minutes. I don’t understand why I had to be naked for the brow part. I was listening to a lecture and she would not allow me to keep listening to it during the session! Claiming she had to get to know me first and she doesn’t allow “social media”. It was a lecture!! She then starts talking and talking non stop and completely flipped from being super rude to being the nicest person when I told her I was a doctor, and even said “next time you can listen to a lecture” like I needed her permission to do whatever I needed to do during this time. I’m sure she wouldn’t allow me to play music if I wanted to. She didn’t ask what I wanted for my brows she just “knew”. Overall, this was a very disturbing experience. Extremely unprofessional and zero clue or care about my comfort or needs or my business. I wouldn’t recommend her to anybody, specially having so many options around. She mentioned the bad reviews she’s had and I completely relate to those. The wax service almost doesn’t matter when you are treated like this but it’s just ok. Nothing spectacular.

Best and fastest wax Ive ever gotten! Angie is kind, a superb conversationalist, an outstanding aesthetician, and super precise! She treats you like a friend every time you walk into her business and always remembers you and your last conversation, even though she has a million clients! She is also understanding and very reasonable: I had a car emergency during one of my previous appointments. When I realized that I would not make it to my appointment, I called and left a frantic message telling her my sob story. Later on we talked again and she told me to not worry about missing my appointment-- she didnt charge me and told me to reschedule at my convenience. I was already a repeat customer at this point, but after this car fiasco, I am a loyal customer for as long as I am in Portland! I highly recommend Angie and The Wax Shack!

I’ve been going to Angie for 5 years now! Can’t believe it has been since 2015. When I was searching for wax services I had 3 criteria: clean, quick and quality. Angie met all 3. And honestly, what more do you need from a wax specialist?! Initially when I started going to her, I lived in Portland but then moved to Salem and driving to see her is worth it for me! Our conversations during appointments are fun, honest and open; it makes the session go by so quick since I don’t focus on how it feels. One thing to remember is you have to go consistently when it comes to waxing and the “pain” eventually goes away. Angie’s services at Wax Shack is so worth it!

Ive been seeing Angie for about 3 years now and have always had a great experience. She loves to chat which helps keep me distracted as getting a wax is not my favorite thing. I never get ingrown hairs, which is an issue Ive historically had with waxing. Highly recommend!

This is by far the best waxing shop on the planet. I have mostly been waxed by the owner Angie, and she is extremely talented, professional, and welcoming. I have been waxed a couple times by her friendly associate Maisie who is also wonderful and great at waxing. Every time I get waxed at the Wax Shack, Angie has made me feel comfortable, safe, and taken care of, and I cant imagine going anywhere else. She keeps friendly and engaging conversation, and I always enjoy talking to her. Her shop is clean, beautifully decorated, and just the right temperature.I first started getting waxed by Angie over 2 years ago and continue to come back because of the quality of the waxing services provided, the amazing staff, and the affordable prices. Waxing is an expensive service so its important to me that the waxing be worth the cost, and the Wax Shack is phenomenal. I also really respect that Angie doesnt charge more for larger clients (some wax places do this and I find it discriminatory and disrespectful).The waxing products Angie uses are kind to my sensitive skin, and I always leave with my legs/Brazilian/underarms/lip areas feeling smooth and free of sticky wax residue. I can be sensitive to scents, but the waxing materials and the hydrating aftercare oil she uses smell nice and are not overpowering. Angie has great attention to detail and makes sure that I leave her shop happy.Also, she has a VERY generous 12 hour cancellation policy and wont charge you if you need to reschedule and call before the 12 hours.I cannot recommend Angie and her shop enough!

Reviews definitely don’t match my experience. I made an appointment, I arrived 5-10 minutes early. When it was finally my turn, she had someone else that had just come through the door, come in before me, saying, “oh, it will be quick”. 15 minutes later the customer comes out and the owner stayed cleaning up. The owner comes out, the customer pays, leaves, and so I started approaching her, and she snaps at me saying “I didn’t call you yet, you can go back and wait.” I became upset and told her that I have been waiting for a while now. She had an awful attitude and told me that I just had to keep waiting. I said that I didn’t want her services anymore and started to approach the door, she stopped me before I left and asked me to come back. I told her I felt extremely uncomfortable with her doing a service after her confrontational attitude. She apologized, and I went back in. Those were the longest 30 min of my life. She started with these little minor aggressions saying that I wasn’t from the U.S., and asking where my parents from, that I had a weird accent, asking me if I have a degree, if I work, how long I’ve been in the U.S. and how ’have I been able to stay.’ She even started getting political and saying how people from Portland just pretend to be “liberal” and “open-minded” but everyone is in fact very conservative and white. I had never experienced something like this before. Everything she said was trying to be subtle, and in a very passive aggressive way, and I just left with the worst feeling, and in complete shock. At the end she gave me this “free” exfoliating brush for my bad experience. I refused accepting it, and she kept insisting. I took the brush, paid, and RAN. Never again.

First time coming here, I felt pretty uncomfortable and uneasy the whole time. I’ve had waxing done before either from a business or doing it myself so I usually know how it goes. From reading the reviews, the service didn’t quite match what I experienced. With the pandemic and everything, we had a conversation on significant issues. However, the way it was discussed was unprofessional and mainly felt like a therapy session for the owner, Angela (who was the person waxing). Also, there was a couple of patches on my leg she had missed when she was done. Overall, I wouldn’t come here again.

I was scared when I arrived and embarrassed to take my clothes off, but Angie helped me feel comfortable and did the best waxing Ive ever had. Angie is awesome.

I went here today for my first leg wax in about 15 years! Maisie was wonderful - she worked quickly and thoroughly, all the while being incredibly chatty and friendly! It was so easy and enjoyable. It felt like I was just hanging out with a girlfriend chatting about work and travel. I combined the full leg with a bikini wax which was very painless. It was easy to make an appointment online, and the reminder emails listed good instructions for preparation and location/parking.The service itself was great and easy. Maisie is a great conversationalist. She made me feel so relaxed and comfortable. She warns you about whats going to hurt the most, and gets everything done quickly, which was great, as it was my first full wax. The space is cute, tidy, and comfortable. Its way cheap for how great the service is, so leave a good tip! They deserve it.

Before coming to Angie for the first time back in 2016, I had never been waxed before. She made my first experience stress-free and painless, and I have never gone anywhere else since! The heat in Austin has started to yellow the headlight lenses on my black Corvette around the edges. Angie is great, she walks that perfect Portlandian mix of immediate friend and awesome service provider. She kept me talking (and thus distracted) the entire time. She uses a couple different types of wax so she can get the really fine hairs after she clears away the thicker hair then she goes back over the entire area to make sure I did not have any strays. She is CLEARLY a perfectionist.Street parking was easy, take the elevator in back up to the 3rd floor and wait in the chair for her to open her door.Her prices cant be beat you would be silly to go anyplace else.

The Wax Shack had lots of great reviews and thats what drew me in. I had one wax (Brazilian/brow) and the experience was overall positive--although I noted that Angie didnt really listen to my concerns or indulge questions. When I said I preferred a different eyebrow shape, one that didnt lay quite so flat along the brow, she said, oh, you look great. Its perfect. Also, when I asked about the amount of hair coming off, down there, because I was a bit confused about the difference between a Brazilian and a Parisian, again, she just shut me down and went to town. I didnt want so much of my hair gone but she wanted to do it her way and didnt listen.After the appointment, I told myself she had a strong opinion/personality. I paid and let it go.My second visit was a disaster. I asked a question about what she was doing during the Brazilian and she was defensive yet again.When she went down there with a pair of tweezers and I told her that wasnt necessary, she refused to stop. Next, she went after an ingrown hair with some device she didnt explain before using (which hurt like all get out) and I was shaking so hard, I just had to call an end to our treatment.I got off the table and said it was all good, I was done.Angie told me how insulting it was for her that I had to stop the procedure.I smiled and was as polite as I could be, but was firm about being done, done, done.Imagine? My being in pain was insulting to her?She would do well taking a class on listening and compassion. My goodness, no one has a right to hurt you and to ignore your concerns and questions.I will never go back to that place again and I would never recommend her to anyone I cared about.

This was as good an experience as is possible for something as unpleasant as waxing. The staff was attentive, sweet, professional, and helped distract me from the actual process. Also fantastic price for a facility and service this good.
