I wish I could give higher than a 5π rating!!The guys down at Jays really know how to provide the absolute best service with the utmost honesty. They will never, ever try to get more money out of you with bologna claims of your car needing excess work. They only do the work that is necessary to keep you on the road safely. Its rare to find an honest mechanic anywhere, let alone a family owned/ran business. The owner, Miles, is a very kind and generous person, and a man of pure integrity. His son Joe helps him run the shop, and they do so in perfect harmony. I dont even know where to start with Mel.. The guy knows his stuff and is incredibly straight forward about any and everything. Theyre all straight shooters and Theyll tell you how it is and they wont bulls*** you! Trust me when I tell you that this IS the place to get all your car repairs and maintenance done if you want it done right! Schedule and appointment or just go down and see what they say, I absolutely, positively, 110% guarantee you wont regret it and youll want to thank me later!
Honest, honest, honest mechanic. You canβt find a more honest mechanic than right here. Not only were they beyond understanding and honest but also not greedy. They could have not disclosed things to me, taken a lot of my money and then never see me again. Instead they told me how to save money and then even discounted my bill to be less than it was originally. This company goes above and beyond Excellent.
Super nice and honest mechanic. Went in because another mechanic told me I had problems with the struts and the axle. Mel showed me exactly what the other guys were talking about and why I didnt need to be worried. I feel like I just had a lesson with a master mechanic.
These are skilled, honest and scrupulous mechanics. Jerry and Miles @ Jays Garage worked hard to price cost the car parts I needed to work out an extremely affordable rate-- no arbitration, no haggling. They went to great lengths to try to save me money, even calling manufacturers on my behalf to try to honor warranties on inadequate parts. Im puzzled that this neighborhood shop doesnt have more reviews. Theyve got my future business and trust; theyre amazing, friendly guys with great communication who help you understand what went wrong, they talk straight (no embellishment, no exaggeration) and they definitely want to stand behind their workmanship. I like the commitment to their customers, Ill be back, thanks!
Love this place!! Itβs so hard to find a good mechanic, especially as a female, you do not want to be treated unfairly or over charged. This will NOT happen at Jayβs garage. You get good service, skilled and knowledgeable employees at a fair rate. They have been my go to shop for both me and my sonβs car for almost 4 years now. Highly recommend going to Jayβs (family owned and operated) if you need a trustworthy shop that provides high quality work!
Weβve been going to the shop for almost 4 years now, never had a bad experience. This is a family owned business known for fair pricing and excellent work. If youβre looking for a mechanic you can trust Jayβs is the place with great customer service and knowledgeable employees!!
Besides for being the only pump e85 in the region, the staff is awesome. Several times Ive locked my ecu up while switching tunes and they always help me push the rig our of the way and back. Cars never had issue with their quality of e85 either.Little pricey but I guess thats S&D
Very friendly, fast and professional.
Just overall bad service if you can even call it that.
Best place to get e85
I had an unexpected rather major repair arise with my WRX - I had it towed to Jayβs Garage as that was the closest place to me - being rather new to Portland and the first time needing a mechanic I crossed my fingers that I made the right choice- and that I did! The guys there were awesome- I felt treated like family. They were patient and very accommodating- explaining to me in detail what exactly was going on, letting me do my own research ect. In the end the repair bill ended up being a fair amount less than I expected and the quality of work was exceptional- I highly recommend Jayβs Garage- they will be my go to repair shop for as long as I live in Portland!
Jay is always helpful and fair! Does work on the whole families vehicles. Couldnβt recommend a better place!
Amazing garage! If you need anything fixed or looked at on your car, definitely take it here! Just an awesome bunch of people. Two weeks ago, I took my car to them to get new brake pads and rotors. During the entire process, they would involve me in some way. I was able to actually look and feel the old parts versus the new parts and learn about their function. Everybody there was more than happy to answer any questions I had!I flew home for the holidays, so my car sat for a couple of weeks. When I got back, I noticed some grinding when I would brake. I took it back to Jays, and Mel explained that it was probably just because the moisture rusted the new rotors while the car sat (and it was). But, they went ahead and double checked anyway- free of charge!I seriously cannot recommend this place enough! Jays Garage is the first garage Ive ever been to that involves the customer in the process, gives mechanical insight, and treats women fairly. Plus, I genuinely enjoyed having conversations with the employees!Go here! Its a no-brainer!
Iβve been conned and taken advantage of at a lot of car shops and repair places because I donβt know all that much about cars... never once have I found one that I could trust to help me get the best bang for my buck until I stepped foot in Jays Garage! I didnβt even make an appointment! I walked right in and was helped immediately and they diagnosed the problem with my vehicle right then and there! A faulty battery! And they installed it at an outstanding price, and weβre really nice the entire time I waited which wasnβt long at all. I canβt even express how grateful I am to have such amazing car pros in the area who were quick and went out of their way to get me the best price possible, they made my entire week with this visit and theyβve got themselves a customer for life! Happy Holidays! &,Thank you Jays Garage for keeping me on the road, going out of your way to save me time and money all while providing excellent customer service!
I originally found this place through a friend who knows one of the mechanics, thinking eh, why not?. They made the process incredibly easy through their credit service, getting me my car fixed before I could afford all the work, and by keeping me updated daily (by request) as to what was happening with my car. The whole time I felt like they were giving me the best work at the lowest prices I could find after doing some further research, as going to a place just because you know a guy that knows a guy isnt always the best way to find a mechanic, though fortunately this time it ended up being, by far, the right choice.
Great customer service, they got me in and out quickly. They managed to find and resolve the issue with my car and I was happy with fair prices!
I recently had an emergency repair needed for my car and because the cost was more than I anticipated, Miles worked with me so that I could have the repair done and be safe on the road. I really felt that they cared about my safety and valued me as a customer.I will be using Jays for all of my automotive needs in the future. Their standard of customer care is exactly what makes them top notch for me.I highly recommend them.
Jerry is the best! I always bring my problematic car here & they always take care of me. They communicate very well, help you problem solve and get to the car as soon as they can. Such great guys, Iβll continue to only take my car here :-)
The crew here is very knowledgeable and honest. They did quality work for us and I am grateful for it. My only reason for the 4 star review is that the work was a bit pricey.
The reviews on google are a lot higher than any other review platform. With that being said, the reviews here that state the prices are high are true. An oil change ran me 70.79 with an average for the area of 45-70. A coolant flush ran me 149 with an average for the area of 100-140. It was 52.48 for an hour of diagnosing a coolant leak and then 744 to replace a water pump and thermostat with an average price for the area of 445-671.
Great service.
These guys completely fixed a jeep I had my wife buy while I was deployed in South Korea. It had a ridiculous amount of problems and not only did they take special care in finding them all, they kept me updated on the progress they made on it and not to mention after they were done and I told them I wanted to lift it and put bigger wheels on it, they assisted my wife with finding a reliable place to do it. It was a great experience and they truly care for their customers.
I called them and asked if they could install some HID Headlights I got for Christmas. They said they could easily install them, but because I didnt buy the headlights through them they would not install them. So, they told me to try somewhere else. They werent interested in helping and I really wanted to support a local business, but they didnt want my business!
They were kind and efficient, and I would absolutely recommend coming here!
How to describe my experience with Jays Garage; Reliable, efficient, great customer service and cares for their customers safety.
You get what you pay for here. Which means higher prices than other places because their work is FAR superior to other shops. They care about me and my car and it shows. Would recommend to anyone!
I have been going here for about 14 years to get gas . Great customer service! Didnt realize until this last year that they sell tires too. They special ordered some tires for my Dodge Ram, and I got a killer deal. Saved me a lot of money compared to what I was going to spend at Les Schwab.
Jays was wonderful and went above and beyond to take care of me! I came to Jays after buying a truck that failed me over and over. I bought the Groupon and asked them to run a diagnostic. A couple months later, two new catalytic converters, new wheel bearing, and a few other repairs and the check engine light comes on again. I brought the truck in again... Tried to clear the code... was feeling really frustrated. Ended up speaking with Miles who told me to give Jays another shot. They ended up fixing the issue and getting my truck to pass DEQ! I was totally shocked and I am extremely happy with Jays! Ill be bringing in my truck and any other car I have for as long as Im in Portland!
Jays Garage is an all time favorite. So happy Mel is still there.
Very nice people! Whenever I bring my car in, they always do a great job and smile while greeting me.
Long story short. I have been having some difficulties with my car. I have gone to a couple different shops and I have gone to the dealer and everybody has told me a list of things that I need to do to fix the problem with my car. And I just so happen to stop at Jays garage to get some gas I asked one of the mechanics Joe quick question and he asked if he could look at my car. Next thing I know my car is fixed for a fraction of the price that the dealer wanted. I have now found my mechanic shop I will always be going back and its right in my neck of the woods. They were fast they were friendly they were reliable. Ultimately they scared for my safety and wanted to solve the problem without breaking the bank. Thank you Jays garage for doing a wonderful job on my car I will see you guys again soon.
They sell e85 flex fuel. The only one in portland so they definitely deserve 5 star for that. I wish they had longer hours on the weekend.
I dont find Jays too expensive. In fact, they are fairly reasonable. Warning, if you go to Jays Garage be prepared to be smiled at and treated awfully nice.
Great because its the only spot in town which has e85. But pricing it 50% higher than gas because they have a monopoly isnt cool. In 3-2016 e85 is $2.91. Normal premium is around $1.99. Most other states have e85 hovering slightly over a dollar. UPDATE 9-2016 price is 2.41 for e85. 5stars now
Great work and very reasonably priced! My car broke down in downtown Portland and I had my car towed to Jays garage. AAA recommended Jays garage and my car is fixed. Thanks!
E85 fluctuates a little seasonally but its good overall.
Best service team ever! Reliable work and great repair suggestions. No hassle pricing.
Jay recently replaced the driveshaft in my 1990 Subaru and it works awesome now. Will definitely be going back. Thanks guys!
We had a not so good experience here however the owner handled it so well and was so quick to get back to me and make things right Iβm updating my review!
Good, reliable work. No frills.
Jerry was a great help in getting my wife and Is car back up and running. I would highly recommend anyone with auto repair needs to go to Jays Garage!
The best shop in town. My trusted local mechanic for years.
Jays garage was great and very helpful when my car broke down! They towed my car for free from nearby and the cost of the repair was fair for my starter. The mechanic also did a through check on my oil and noticed the battery mounds needed to be replaced. I would go here again for service.
Professional service that genuinely WANT to help you! I felt taken care of and felt they werent trying to oversell anything! I will always use them now!
I came in awkward and unsure what to do- these guys were kind and understanding! I would go back anytime I had a need. Thanks guys at Jays Garage!!
My 2000 Dodge Ram Cummins diesel crew cab pickup truck developed an oil leak just before we were to head out on a six week getaway on Maui. We use the truck to pull a 32 foot trailer on our hiking and mountain climbing trips and we needed it back when we returned. We worked with a wonderfully knowledgeable technician named Jerry. Not only did he correctly diagnose the problem and made the necessary repairs, he arranged to have the truck picked up from our home, and delivered back to our home. He also went the extra mile and tested/observed for leaks over a several day period over time. I have mostly had good experiences with auto repair in the past, but I never had this level of service from anyone. Amazing! Price was quite reasonable for the amount of work needing to be done and part needed. I will definitely will use them again in future.
Jays Garage resolved my car problems that other body shops couldnt! Did it fast and for half the price of others! Thank you guys!
They take care of their customers, they make sure to give you constant updates on your vehicle, and they dont waste anytime on repairs. Obviously a well rounded business
They take good care of my car and complete the repairs quickly.
Only place that has e85 in town nice guys too
Not sure if its actually a gas station. Pulled up to a pump, wasnt approached for a few minutes so got out of my car to find attendant asked if they were still able to pump gas? Grungy looking guy with long blonde hair told me afraid so then threw up hands exasperated at my car. I asked if he wanted me to pull up to a different pump or another side, he said do whatever you want and walked inside to lock up all the doors and never came out.Up there in worst customer service experiences, which is surprising reading the other reviews.
They have e85 gas and thatβs amazing. Not much more to say about that
My daughter called me today saying her check engine light on. Looked for a shop near by and it showed jays garage. We took her car there and he scaned the codes and it showed something to do with her brake lights. He said that she had no brake lights. Which little did we know was the reason we couldnt get her car out of park without using a screw driver.. he had us in and out in about a half hour. Definitely will be taking her car there for any other service.
I have been taking my two cars 1995 Miata and 2013 Optima to Jays Garage for along time for maintenance I recently had the top end done on the Miata and am very happy. They have great costumer service.
Friendly staff. Clean restroom. High quality E85.
Had a electrical problem with my car went to two other shops no help stopped by jays an hour later problem solved. great shop. thanks mel.
I took a used truck to Jays Garage to see if I should buy it. They said it was a good buy, but that I needed a new power steering pump and some work done on the rear differential. They charged me $1000 for the work, but neither of the problems got fixed. I drove it x-country and brought it to a mechanic here in Maine. Turns out Jays garage missed the fact that the timing belt hasnt been changed in over 100,000 miles, the CV boot is torn open, the rear differential is leaking into the rear brakes, everything that could be wrong with this truck, is wrong, except for the transmission. They didnt even do a BASIC tune up on this truck for me before I drove it x-country. Yeah, I made it, but they were half-assed and dishonest. I would NEVER go there again.
Honestly, I am a bit surprised and highly concerned by some of the negative reviews. I am a former Portlander who relied exclusively on Jays to service my vehicles for many years. One time they did my brakes after I had waited way too long to get them taken care of and they had started to grind, After picking up my car I still had the grind. Jay personally apologized and said his mechanic had misunderstood and done only the front brakes. In return for the inconvenience he did my back brakes for free - parts AND labor. Another time I went in convinced I needed a new air conditioning pump and had a $1,200 budget. When I returned that afternoon for my car, there was a bill for $89 for a simple recharge. Jays opinion was that with 180,000 miles I wasnt going to get $1,200 worth of $89 annual recharges. He could have easily performed the service I asked but chose to be honest. I lived in Hillsboro, but worked two blocks from Jays. Never once did I have to arrange for alternate transportation because my car wasnt ready at the end of the day as promised.I moved away several years ago, but here is what concerns me. My son is 23, lives in Beaverton and not very streetwise. He has already been ripped of by two other mechanics. His car needs some work and I have insisted he go see Jay and tell him of our history. After reading some of these bad reviews I am wondering if that is sound advice.
My mom took her car here for a battery draining issue. Car was dropped off at 10:30am, tech calls a couple hours later and tells my mom that the handsfreelink module is draining the system. Quotes her $930-$980 to fix. Mom calls me uneasy about the price, I knew right away that something was funny. Searching through pages of forums I find that this problem is common in Acura TLs. Forum explains how to fix it and roughly how much it will cost($200). Acura itself has even released a TSB(technical service bulliten) on the matter. TSBs are open to auto shops to help diagnose common issues and resolve problems quickly.I knew right away that this wasnt the shop for us and that we needed to get the car out and pay him for work completed. I showed up that same day at 5pm and the techs were gone. Next day 7:30am i show up with my mom. I asked the tech how he came up with this solution he explained. Extensive explaination about checking multiple power sources and hunting down this open circuit. Then hands me a printed TSB. This TSB had a short explaination of the problem, how to check and see if this was the problem, and lastly how to fix it. The work was done for him he just needed to test the HFL unit. He explained to me that the HFL unit is $473 and we would pay 4 hours of labor at 104.98 per.I told him that we would be pulling the car out because I know that the HFL unit takes 10 minutes to remove and uninstall. He told me that the 4 hours of labor is time spent diagnosing and that he easily could charge me the 10 hours he spent with the car. I told him the car wasnt even here 10 hours by the time you guys left and that 4 hours labor is outrageous for printing out a TSB and testing the unit. He didnt budge 4 hours labor charged. AAA discount and a mysterious $67 disount (probably because he knew i was onto this BS) we ended up paying $298 for him to print a TSB and test the module. Whatever, ill do it myself i decided. I called Acura and for the part was $364 with a $170 core charge. End price for part $194(not $473). There is 1 cover and 4 bolts holding this module in, and that somehow to Jays Garage it is worth almost a Grand to complete this work. Not to mention Acura will complete this service for $736. Not a stand up shop. Very expensive and very misleading. Great E85, terrible auto shop. We spent more on the diagnose than we did for me to order and install the part. Total time 9 minutes. Car runs fine. Thank you for the $300 diagnose!
As its the only place in the Portland area that offers e85, this will be my one-stop shop for fuel when I need it. Service was prompt.
They have that good go fast juice E85 ya boy!
Good place for biofuels. Friendly staff, and they even wash my windows evey once in a while
Two thumbs up for Jays. Keep em cranking.
I bought a car from these people on good faith, desperately needing transportation for my wife because our other car had been stolen and the insurance company would not give me very much money for it. We explained that we needed reliable transportation and that we just wanted something to get us through until we could save up for another car. They told me the car had been gone through by their technicians and given tranny service and such. Two weeks into driving the car, I had realized that the car leaked so much oil that I couldnt even park it in my garage. Then my wife was backing out of the driveway to take our kids to school and the transmission literally grenaded and broke the outer case. I called them several times over the next few weeks and was put off, told to talk to the other guy (they sell them through arrowwood auto at a staffing service up the street) and finally after almost a month of not returning my phone calls, Jay tells me Im not going to do anything for you, I dont know what you want me to doHeres what I wanted you to do, Jay, treat me like a human being. I never expected you to buy me a new car, just help me get this one fixed, offer to give me free labor, a discount on a tranny, SOMETHING that would show that you were affected by the fact that you sold me a car that blew up. Thanks for being heartless, good luck in running your business into the ground. After reading other reviews on these people, Im sure they took this car from someone by telling them it needed a new transmission, and then just sold it to me as is.
I visit regularly for e85 fuel. The guys working the gas pumps are always friendly, professional, and efficient.
Only locally owned gas station that I know of in the area. I always get great service, and dont mind paying a little extra.
Friendly, knowledgeable, people who get the job done quick.
Quick, friendly service for our flat tire. And open Sunday!
The only e85 station in Portland/ vancouver/beaverton area?
Jaye himself gonna come out pump your gas. Last time I saw that I was in rural Laos. Respect
One thing to say: The guy working tonight who answered the phone when I called... He needs a lesson in customer service.Update: the guy the next morning... As soon as I questioned the price to fix a flat his whole attitude changed to something unfortunately distasteful.
Iβm Jason I donβt know carsSo Jason went to jaysJay knows carsBe like Jason take your car to jays
Knowledgeable staff.
Only spot to get E85 at the pump. Cheap too...$2.40/gal
Had a Groupon with them. They wanted me to buy expensive brakes when I didnt need them. But they changed my oil
E85 prices are on point here
DUMB and SELFISH. Ethanol is supposed to be cheap and an alternative to high gas prices. This place knows it is the only E85 fueling station in the Portland area so they mark up the price per gallon significantly. Theres no sense in going here for Ethanol when it is virtually the same price as gas.
Great service!
Biodiesel.
Awesome
Biodiesel central!
They fix cars
