I highly recommend Portland Service Center (Chips) for all of your auto service needs. The entire team is excellent - Becki, Dave, Andy and Cody are always friendly, honest and do an amazing job with your vehicle. The pricing is fair and I trust them which is priceless. I would not bring my vehicle anywhere else!

Ive been taking our family cars there for nearly 2 decades. I absolutely love this place! I trust their reliable, thorough, competent service. They are friendly and straightforward. I have called them when on road trips when I have needed advice and they have been MOST helpful. I recommend them without hesitation!

They seem to do good work but I’m not an expert so it’s hard to tell for sure. Certainly they communicate well and charge very reasonable prices. I do wish they had a better transportation plan for while they have my car and would get it done faster.

I do not trust this place. Aside from the fact that my gut told me to leave immediately when I pulled in- the front desk employee made it clear Chip’s Service Center lacks accountability and could care less about customer safety concerns. I made an appointment to get wheel bearings replaced. When I voiced my safety concerns (from another customers very negative Yelp review) I was told “We don’t look at reviews” and was rudely dismissed. I told the woman I wasn’t comfortable leaving my car there for service and took my car to Pape Subaru (they say they’ve fixed many of Chip’s customers issues in the past- as they are not a certified Subaru service location). Normally I wouldn’t post a bad review but hopefully others can learn from my mistake.

Great service, honest and fair!

My 98 Subaru (never call a Subaru a Subie) Classic/Vintage wagon, is alive and well due to Chips (now P.S.C.) care over the last 8 years. Two weeks ago, the old dog went in for inspection that required substantial work to get the sticker. Becki gave me a quote of $850 + change and, when the gagging was over, I gave her the go-ahead. Last week Becki called and said that the deed had been dun and the bill was for $350 + change. Becki said that when the area was opened up, it wasnt as bad as they had assumed. Strange place. Ill go back in a minute.

Ive been bringing my Subarus to Portland Service Center (aka Chips) for many, many years now, and have always received prompt, friendly, and very reasonably priced service on my cars. I also like that they give me a heads-up on what is probably coming down the road repair-wise. I recommend them without hesitation, and credit them with keeping my last Subaru running well until it reached the age of 20!

I was very impressed with Becky and team when my 2013 Outback’s transmission went out. They helped me find a transmission that was much more economical than any others I had been looking at for weeks. They took the time to help educate me. They installed my transmission and all is well again. I’m always so hesitant to try new places as I have felt taken advantage of in the past with other mechanics, but I will be sure to take my Outback to them again when it needs work.

Went in with a recently bought older Subaru. Had them do an oil change and asked them about a sound that was bothering me.I was told that my car would not pass inspection in Maine due to rust (I do have NH tags, but bought it in Maine and it was just inspected in Maine and passed fine. Guess he didn’t look at the windshield, just the tags? Humm)My car was diagnosed as needing a new driveshaft and I was quoted over $800 to fix. The quote was with new OEM driveshaft and he didn’t bother to mention the options of using a new third party manufactured part or a used part. I spent a whole day stressing out and doing research myself and found a replacement driveshaft that is perfect and I’m now looking at a total repair cost of around $250 elsewhere.I called the shop to speak with my service tech to ask some follow-up questions. I was told he was busy and someone would call me back. Sadly, that return call never happened.I waited on writing this review because I figured I can never go back after I submit it, but I finally came to the conclusion that I would never want to go back since I feel I can’t trust them to do what’s best for me based on the experience I’ve described.I hate leaving a bad review, but I needed reasonable advice based on my car and a budget reasonable for the age of the car I own. I don’t feel like I was presented any options... just repair estimate shock and lack of communication when I called to try to discuss my situation further. It was all very stressful.Update: After seeing my review, I did receive a call from them. I was told that I wasn’t presented other options regarding the driveshaft since they don’t install used parts since they can’t warranty them. No problem. I get the idea. But what about brand new, third party manufactured parts with a manufacturer warranty? I said that it would have been helpful to be told that other options existed, even if they wouldn’t do the work. Was told they don’t have a list of people that they reference for that. Cool, I get it. No list. How about saying this... “We realize that is a lot of money to spend on a repair for a car of this age. If you can’t or don’t want to invest that much in the repair, you could consider looking at NEW, non-oem parts online that are a lot less than OEM, or even used parts I’d you want to take the risk. I’m sorry, but we don’t install anything that is non-OEM . You could try calling around to find a mechanic that will do the installation. We understand your situation. It’s not uncommon. Let us known if you’d like us to install the OEM part. If not, we truly hope you can find a solution that makes sense for you and your car. Please don’t hesitate to visit us again for any future issues. We value your business.”

Another great experience.I’ve been using this garage for years. I trust them 100%. This is a reliable and hard working small business. This should be your first stop for automobile service but if you are looking for a second opinion, these are the folks to ask for an honest opinion.

Becky, Jason, Kyle, Andy, and Koty are an excellent group of solid, knowledgeable professionals who work very hard to make my experience there a good one.... and it always shows! I’ve been taking my cars there for over a decade and I’ve always been satisfied that they’ve done their best for me. I have no reason to look anywhere else... it’s a good thing!!

Portland Service Center has truly exceptional service! I have an older Subaru, so I always expect that I will have to replace my engine or some other really expensive repair. The folks at PSS never take advantage of my ignorance (I know NOTHING about cars). It’s really great to know that they are concerned about my safety and getting back on the road rather than my pocket book. I refer everyone I know to these guys!! Highly recommended :-)

I have been bringing my car to Portland Service Center for years now. I trust this crew with my car needs, which I never thought Id be able to say that about a service center. I have brought my car into the shop (one more than one occassion) and Kyle has actually called me to let me know that certain issues would be warranty work so that I could call a local dealer instead. I am amazed every time! What dealership turns down guaranteed work because its in YOUR best interest? The best ones, thats who! They are friendly, quick, and there are no surprises on your bill! If the team finds something wrong with your vehicle other than what you expected, they will always call you to consult first. I will continue bringing my car here because they have shown me time and time again that they are a trustworthy, hard working, talented group of people. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend the Portland Service Center.

I love Chips Service Center!I love having a place to take my late model Subaru where they are very knowledgeable and experienced with Subarus and I can trust them not to up-sell me anything I dont really need. EXAMPLE: They recently welded an exhaust crack for $89, where a lesser inferior place would have just seized the opportunity to sell me new exhaust components $$$.Thanks again Chips. Friendly efficient honest quality work. I dont like wondering if my car is going to work. I dont want to have to think about it. I want a competent mechanic to see the car a couple times a year, then identify and fix any issues at reasonable cost before they become a bigger problem. I have been a customer for just a few years now (since 2017) but have so far gotten that service here. I would recommend them.

They fixed my issue. The price was reasonable. They did a good check up to see if other issues were present. Gave me the information I needed, didnt pressure me to get the optional repairs done. Cheerful, helpful, good service.

When I moved to Portland I needed a new mechanic for my Subaru. Found Chips and havent looked back. Excellent team and are super easy to work with. As long as I have a Subaru I will use them. If you want a place that wont take advantage of you, Chips is your place!

SAFETY CONCERNS -- Im very disappointed in my experience at Chips. I took my 2016 Crosstrek in for 90,000 mile service and state inspection. They told me that the wheel bearing needed to be replaced in order to pass the inspection, which I agreed to. When I got my car home that night, I noticed a good sized gash in the rear tire sidewall. This gash was not there when I brought the car in and Chips did not say anything about it on the state inspection. It also did not happen on the 1 mile drive home from Chips. I took my car back to Chips the next morning and was told that they would call around and look for a replacement tire -- in the meantime I was told that the tire was safe to drive on. I was uncomfortable driving on a damaged tire so I took it to another repair shop for a second opinion. The second repair shop was shocked that Chips let me drive off the lot -- they said it was definitely not safe to drive. This second shop located a replacement tire and had it replaced within a couple hours. Meanwhile, Chips called me back and told me that the kind of tire I needed was no longer manufactured and Id have to buy 4 new tires or they couldnt help me.Chips either damaged my tire or missed it on the inspection -- neither of which they apologized for. They then told me it was safe to drive when it wasnt. And finally, they told me that the kind of tire I needed was no longer made while another service center easily found one. I usually dont write reviews, but I felt the need to warn other potential customers -- especially regarding Chips lack of ownership over their mistakes and putting their customers safety at risk.

Great shop with a fun, super staff. Not only do they get the job done (on time and with the price being as quoted!) but the crew here smiles, is fun to deal with and they make what is usually a drudgery (car repairs) way less a pain. Wish wed have had a Chips back in Indiana, where I moved here from in 2015. Glad to have discovered these folks!

The mechanics at Chips do great work at very good prices. Theyll talk you through any issues and repairs. I recommend them to any Subaru owner in the greater Portland area.

I love CSC. I have a 15 year old Outback with 150,000+ miles. I hope to keep it on the road. CSC is helping me do that.

This crew is fantastic. They have consistently gone above and beyond for me and my family. They are more than happy to answer any and all questions you have and have been very flexible to meet my schedule and needs. No pressure here, never feel like you’re being cheated. Good honest folks. Can’t say enough good things. They are great people, who provide outstanding service.

Chips is THE BEST. Great, fast, cheap service. They will never try and cheat you like many other places in town. I made the mistake of going to Sullivan Tire for my inspection and they wanted to charge me $1800. Chips quoted me at $540 and even told me that if I go to the dealer they will cover one of the problems under warranty. Ill never go anywhere else.

If you want high quality work, honest opinions, and a safe vehicle, Chips is the place to go. Kyle and Becky are great, and have always been upfront about the state of my vehicle and the timing of repairs.

Outstanding service. I have only been to this repair shop twice. The first time, they checked out my car the same day I called about a vehicle noise. The second appointment, I was late for my 7:30 AM appointment because my car battery died in -20F temperatures. Not only did they wait for me to get to the appointment but they were able to put in a new battery in addition to the original planned repairs so quickly I still made it to work on time. Highly recommended.

Chips is a professional well organized place and at the same time very informal. I very much appreciated being able to discuss my cars problems with the man who actually did the work. He fixed the major problem -- new rear brakes -- and indicated the status of the other problems on the statement. Very helpful! And the price was reasonable. It was well worth the 25 or 30 minutes it took for me to drive from Brunswick. Ill gladly do it again. Oh, and it was all done while I waited.

Super friendly husband and wife team were extremely understanding of the poor service I received at another dealership...over the phone we made an appointment for my car to be looked at and taken for a test drive; they treated me with respect and actually listened to me describe the issues my car was having. I decided to have the oil changed at the same time and that was all they charged me...they even fixed my rattling heat shield too!!! They were honest and real down to earth people; I know who Im taking my Subaru to from now on!

Called to make an appointment and she said they would be closed for a week. She asked if I could make it in today before they close. I came in because I wasnt sure if the noise the car was making was something that could wait or not. He took it for a quick drive, popped off the hubcap and looked around a little bit. Then he was going to bring over to the bay and we noticed that the noise was gone! They didnt charge me and I left feeling safe in my car again and not having to wait, worrying what it was.

Outstanding customer service. Developed a short a day before going on vacation. They had no openings but squeezed me in and fixed the issue......better yet it was only $35.......Great folks to deal with. In a prior visit I had a local shop tell me my care would not pass inspection without replacing the front struts for $800. I took it to Chips who inspected the struts and said they were fine and gave me a sticker......

Honest and trust worthy service!! I had received a quote from a dealership and Chips was able to do the same service for a quarter of the price. I highly recommend Chips!

I am happy to write a positive review for Chips Service Center. It is especially relevant because our last appointment, a #4 Service, started with my bad. Chips had me down for a drop off and I stayed, which put them in a bind on a very hot and muggy day. Nonetheless, I received the usual best service ever. I am a very elder woman and I left confident in my somewhat elder Subaru with my 2 grand-kids for a lengthy trip in the Maine woods. Been coming here for 16 years. Fantastic garage. Great work, reasonable prices, all well documented with email service reminders and warnings about what may be coming down the line work wise. I cant imagine ever finding a mechanic who I like and trust as much. They used to focus on Subarus (which is what I have), but now they do everything.

Chips garage is wonderful. I had exhaust system issues on travels, 200 miles from home. Chips was able to deal with my car on short (i.e., desperate) notice. They could have gouged me for new parts but they saved what was already there instead. For which I am so grateful. They communicated with me really well about my options. I dropped the car off just as they were closing and it was ready by 11 the next morning. The service at this garage is prompt, professional and reliable. They treated me like a neighbour.I would strongly recommend this garage to a friend.

We live in Lincoln County and happened to be in Portland for a Doctors appointment last week. When we got off the freeway my Subaru (Outback) was knocking in the front right side of our car. We had never experienced this knocking before so we had no idea what it was. We saw Chips Service Center and stopped by to see if they could help. We didnt know these kind folks nor did we have an appointment. A gentlemen by the name of Andy came right out to our car with a tire iron having a good idea what the problem was. He checked my tires and sure enough the lug nuts were loose due to not being tightened properly when we had our winter tires installed. Andy tightened our lug nuts and sent us on our way with no charge. A quick but great experience. Thank you for your great customer service.

Yesterday I was visiting Portland for the day, about to leave on my 2 hour trip home to Concord MA. My friend noticed one very low tire. Not good for a long trip. We happened to be near Chips while heading out of town. They were nearly closed, but filled and tested my tire, without charge. Instead, they have a box to collect funds for a needy family. What a great solution! I am very grateful!

I was told my car would be done in one business day. Showed up at 455pm they said they didnt even look at it. No courtesy call no apology. he asked me who told me that it would be done by 5pm? I told him the lady that answers the phone. Looked at me like I was lying. I didnt have time to argue he said hell look at it the next day. If they cant communicate that to each other I lost all faith in the.I get a call my car needs more work. I told them Id tow it. They ended up putting the parts in my trunk and charged me half the labor $250.I brought it to the dealer and they said I was missing parts. Called chip and they had them. Waste of time. It was a 5000 job they lost. I really hate going to the dealer so I was getting to give the local guy business but I learned my lesson. This is the type of shop that gives mechanic a bad rep

These guys provide great service at a very fair price, especially over the Dealers, My 13 year old Outback has always been serviced ty Chip and runs super at 100K plus. My 2009 Outback has yet to need Chips/ attention but we will be under their good care when the time comes... With 10 years of dealing with them, I can highly recommend this company for their knowledge of Subarus and the personal care and advice they have provided me..

Chips is great. I bring both my Subarus there for all service. They are true experts with Subarus and use quality parts. They are hands down the most honest garage Ive ever been to. They DO NOT rip-off their customers. If you are looking for a mechanic in the Portland area, they are the place to go.

I would not take my suby anywhere else. Took to a mechanic in Biddeford with a problem they claimed my car was worth scrapping. Took it to chips for a 1500 dollar fix. These guys really know subarus. Saved my car and they could very well save yours too.
