Wow, I could not have asked for a better company to take care of a classic 1985 BMW M635csi I purchased. It’s a great car…but bring a european model and an M6, it takes an experienced repair shop with specific experience with euros. The owner is just such an experienced technician who has deep experience with BMW M cars in general and European M6 specifically. Darby sourced the hard-to-find parts from Europe, Brandon was always there to help and Joseph lead the technicians to sort out the car and bring the monster back to life. I’m impressed with Munich Motorworks, I believe you will be as well.
Joseph and the guys at Munich Motorworks are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful! We had an emergency situation with our Subaru this week and Joseph was able to diagnose the problem instantly, even though the shop does not work on this type of car. He went out of his way, at closing time no less, to help us out and we are so grateful! We got some great advice on how and where to fix the issue, and also information about long-term car maintenance, which was much appreciated. Plus, there is a very cute shop dog.
Love this shop. I bought an old E36 for cheap and have been trying to keep it alive for the last year or so. These guys are great partners in the effort. Appreciate how they share their knowledge and take the time to answer any questions, and their prices are always fair and reasonable. Dont take your BMW anywhere else in town -- this shop is by far the best.
These guys are actually honest and totally cool...also very helpful. They were booked solid over a week out and they pulled my gfs car in at closing and checked it out for us. Staying late to do so and no charger!!! Its rare to find a business that understands customer service these days.
I can not overstate how nice it is to have a BMW repaired by Munich Motorworks. Instead of just loading the parts cannon, firing at your car, and changing you for every missed attempt, they diagnose the problem correctly and stand behind their work. Just a great shop to deal with. Easily the best independent of the four independent BMW shops that I have tried in Portland. -Michael
Joseph and Darby were both extremely knowledgeable and straight forward when helping me with my car. I could tell they had my best interest in mind and not just trying to get money from me. This was by far the best experience I’ve had with a mechanic. I will recommend them to all friends and family that own German cars.
Guys here are knowledgeable and incredibly nice! They did a great job, did it fast and didnt try to up sell me. As a female, I especially appreciate that...
My e39 540 couldn’t be fixed by a local Indy shop. Munich Motorworks quickly diagnosed the issue, knew how to fix it and did just that without any drama. Highly recommend for any e39 owners!
Recently took my E46 M3 in for new header and exhaust install. Talking to Joseph he was extremely knowledgeable and didnt give any BS, straight to the point and the price was very reasonable compared to other shops I had called and they finished within a timely manner. Great shop with nice guys that know their stuff, will definitely be going back regularly for maintenance up keep and more.
Very good shop and fair . They wont cheat you
Darby and the team here at Munich seem like great people... They accurately diagnosed my mini cooper and shot it straight with me. Upon learning that my car was worse off then previsouly thought he didnt even charge me for the diagnostic! What great service honestly the best kind of people work here and I will certainly be back and I live in Vancouver!
No ripoffs here. Great customer service - just dont drive inside the garage!
Excellent service at a very competitive price. The staff is always helpful and professional. I wouldnt bring my German cars anywhere else.
Excellent service, reasonable prices, customer service was excellent as well. Their little baby girl doggie is absolutely friendly and gorgeous. This is my #1 go to place for car repair now.Thank you Munich Motorworks!
I brought my 40-year-old BMW (E21) to Munich Motorworks for the first time after I tried to replace the alternator belt and ended up shearing a bolt. I was really impressed when Joseph immediately put the car on the lift and looked over the whole car with me, rather than just addressing the alternator situation. I cant say enough how important this holistic approach is, as well as his understanding that not everything must be fixed all at once (and, related, that some things dont need to be fixed). Ive taken the car back for additional work and will continue to do so according to the treatment plan that we came up with (and of course, thats ever-evolving). From the start Ive really felt like he aims to make it a team effort, where Im ultimately the decisionmaker on what work gets done, but hes making recommendations based on prioritizing safety, longevity of the car, and what I would call economic reality; for example, hes not going to waste my money charging me to meticulously clean 40 years of gunk to make my window roll up and down more smoothly - thats something I can do. Owning an old car like this means you do have to tinker with it some, as I always have done and enjoyed, for the 18+ years Ive had this car.I really appreciate the teamwork aspect of working with these guys. I feel like Im always aware of whats being done and what its going to cost, never taken advantage of or even remotely surprised. This has unquestionably been the best auto mechanic experience Ive ever had.
Amazing shop. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Great communication, and quick turnaround time. I brought my Volvo there when the check engine came on. They quickly resolved the issue and had it back to me the next day.
They quoted me 500 for a battery and oil change and only charged me 388 by the end. Most mechanics Ive been to try to squeeze you and they didnt. They were done within six hours and very professional. 10/10 reccomend.
Awesome and honest guys.very friendly. Darby at the front counter is very welcoming they Even changed my hood struts for free. My 2008 bmw m3 is very happy. They do alignment here too. Easy to get to. This will be my shop for many years to come. Thanks to Gresham Auto Wrecking for the recommendation. 10 stars for Munich Motorworks !!!
Wanted buy a 335i and wanted to get it inspected before I purchased it. Joseph walked me through everything and explained to me I was looking at. He’s a no bs kinda guy. He was very honest and upfront about everything that would have to be done and told me there was no reason for me not to get the car. I bought the car and I’m looking forward to taking it to this shop and having him and the rest of the staff take care of my cars needs. Thank you for a great first experience.
Munich Motorworks was recommended by a friend who is a mechanic. I had tried several other shops and was consistently underwhelmed with the service. I dread maintenance issues. I have worked with Joseph and Darby two times now and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. They are friendly and accommodating. They don’t try to sell me things I don’t need. I highly recommend this shop.
Honest, knowledgeable, and kind. Great shop!
BEST place to go in the area. After trying other places around PDX I was lucky to eventually find Munich Motorworks. Staff is honest and knowledgable and do a great job on repairs. Definitely alleviates the stress of Bimmer maintenance.
Great shop! A+ customer service 👍
Having car problems is never pleasant, but the crew at Munich made it as painless as possible. Quick (same-day!), no BS, and incredibly knowledgeable.Highly, HIGHLY recommend, and will only be taking our Audi here from now on. Thanks for being awesome!!!
Bring your BMW here! Exceptionally knowledgeable, straight forward, quick, and fair priced! Plus, Darby and Joseph are very friendly and take the time to educate. I would recommend anyone in need of Bimmer repairs to them!
Had a great experience, shop is run by straight forward trustworthy people.
Great service! Honest and straightforward exactly what I want from a mechanic!!
My first car was an old Mercedes my grandfather gave me as a 16th birthday present. In 18 years, I’ve always had a German car and gone to German car mechanics. I’ve had some competent but costly mechanics, some brilliant but crazy mechanics, and some total idiots over the years. Darby and crew are not only clearly competent, but honest, helpful, friendly, patient and affordable. I’ve taken both my Audi and now my Mercedes to them and wouldn’t go anywhere else. I trust them far more than the dealer. Like health insurance, they believe preventative maintenance is key, and are very flexible with helping you understand expensive services and budgeting when it comes to prioritizing work. I highly recommend them if you own a German car, and don’t want hassle or the nosebleed the dealership can cause. Say hi to their dog while you’re there. It will make the activity that much more enjoyable.
We had our car fix there and they did a great job.Thank you.
Excellent service
Phenomenal place. Joseph and his crew made vetting options for my first used German car a breeze. Joseph went above and beyond to make sure that I would be satisfied at the end of the day and know what Im getting myself into. Will definitely be going to them when I need service
They know other stuff, theyre excellent at executing the work and they always exceed my expectations of getting done faster than I expected
Expert, reliable, trustworthy and fair repair shop. Joseph, Darby and their team are an invaluable resource for owners of older BMWs. My go-to garage since 2013. Kept my 1995 540i Sport running beautifully, retaining high value until I sold it in 2020. 👍🏻👍🏻
I took my e30 to Joseph and he and Darby treated me, and my car, extremely well in my first experience. The issue with the door lock core and power steering pump were fixed within the timeframe they quoted. Joseph also recommended addressing some things that I had overlooked in the near future and gave me some great advice. His experience goes way back with e30s and I will continue to take my car there in the future. Really stoked on my experience...thanks guys!
If you choose to have work done at Munich Motor Works BE CLEAR IN YOUR EXPECTATIONS otherwise you will be disappointed. At first blush Joseph is an amiable and convincing salesman; he is the type of person you will want to trust. There is no doubt Joseph is knowledgeable about certain BMW models. That said, echoing other reviewers, my overall experience with the consistency in his staff’s quality of the work and the transparency in communications was poorer than I have received elsewhere. After several incorrect diagnosis, repeated part failures, and service delays at Munich Motor Works, I found another shop to service my BMW and have been much more satisfied overall.
They are the best mechanics Ive ever taken my car to, ever. I have never and will never worry that they are telling me my car needs some work/part that it doesnt actually need. They have encouraged me on multiple occasions to put off doing work to save $.when we bought a new car, they gave it a once over (for free! I was totally expecting/willing to pay.) They are friendly and knowledgeable and never make me feel like a dumb girl who doesnt know about cars.
The folks at Munich Motorworks stayed late to look at my BMW when it broke down, then called me the next day with a good news/bad news report. The good news was that the issue should be covered by a warranty around a recall, but that a dealership needed to do it. The bad news was they had called the dealership and the dealership told them no. They suggested I call the dealership myself, which I did, and got to a yes. They were really upfront with me about the potential costs, and they emailed me all the pertinent information about the recall and warranty so I would have a better chance with the dealership.I will take my car back to them again.
I had the misfortune of driving a mini through a part of Oregon that has no mechanics willing to work on it when it broke down on Mount Hood. They were friendly and helpful and got me back home to California quickly!! Thank you!!
Joseph at Munich did a soft rebuild on the M20 in my 325i and Ive got to say Im impressed. We spent a couple weeks brainstorming parts and what to do first, it was one of the more painless experiences Ive had with a shop. There were recommendations on what hed do but no pushing/upselling; his recommendations were based on the fact he really knows these cars (and has built many). When I got the car into the shop I was amazed to get a call asking about pickup within a week, it was done quickly, exactly like wed discussed, and on top of it underhood was beautifully cleaned and all done at a fair price. Im very impressed
Went here the other day and got an analysis of my Volvo XC70. The guys Sam and Joseph were extremely friendly and honest. They gave me the run-down and sent me home more knowledgeable about the car, its worth, its issues, and what I should do to keep it running. Very fair and able to work with me on prices. Definitely would trust these guys with any of my cars in the future.
Love the people working at the shop and they will tell you the truth, if your car needs work you will know because they will show you.....Friendly and helpful to say the least.
After I found Munich Motorworks I do not have to worry about finding a mechanic for my Mini Cooper again. They provide excellent service, provide excellent maintenance advice and are always there when I have questions. They have corrected errors done by previous certified Mini mechanics. They show you what is going on so you understand. I have nothing but good words to say about them. The most important is that I trust them.
BMW Club had an event here, we were able to take our vehicles into the shop and get advice and some hands on time. The shop owner Joseph is a great guy. Super friendly and his staff seem really knowledgeable. Ended up purchasing a 97 E36 318i from the shop and my expectations were low because of the great deal I was given. 6 months in, right around 3000 miles driven, only one issue has occurred and that is the drivers window took a dive when I was trying to roll it up. Electric drive for the window still makes noise, so I think I just need to get it realigned. The important part is that I was given more than I was sold. Joseph is attracted to E36s like fat kids are attracted to cake. He knows them inside and out and has been a true E36 tech for many a years. Ive seen cars other than bimmers at his shop, so I would highly recommend this shop to any vehicle owner!
These guys were so fast, so reasonable, and very kind to me. I came in to get my spark plugs replaced and oil changed, and my car feels 5 years younger. They also fixed a broken piece in the dash, just because they saw it was broken. I recommend all German car owners I know to this place. Looking forward to a long relationship with them.
Could not ask for anything better for car repair and servicing. Have utilized their services twice since recently moving to Portland, and have been totally impressed by their friendliness, availability, communication skills, explanation of options, quality of work, Straightforwardness, and efficiency.
These guys know their stuff! They also have the coolest dog to greet you. I cant wait to take my 2002 back to them to do some upgrades.
Very nice people to deal with! Very kind and no nonsense. Stop by to say hi if traveling north of the border ;)
Conscientious and knowledgeable staff. We have used them whenever we need work done on our vehicles and they have never disappointed us!!!
This place is wonderful. They hook it up. Good mechanics.
They are absolutely the best- great service, thoughtful professional service recommendations, and top notch repairs.
UPDATE BELOW: OWNERS LIE IN THEIR RESPONSES. MISREPRESENT SELVES.went in to get a low coolant light checked1. when i asked how much they thought my visit would cost the guy at the desk said well its gonna cost Something.2. I could not agree to have them work on my car without at least an estimate, so they said they would call before doing the work so I could approve the cost. 2 hours after they said they would call I hadnt heard from them, so I called to find out they had already done the work and I owed them $350.3. 1 day later, coolant light is back on in spite of their repairs. I call immediately to make another appointment. At this appointment, they look at the car for literally less than 10 minutes, say well there isnt a leak and say it would be thousands more to look into the problem further.4. the guy at the desk lectures me about how he would teach me to check the coolant level myself if i want to save money. Any idiot can check the coolant level, which I have continuously done to make sure my engine wont over heat.Overall, they did not solve my problem, charged me without making sure that was the plan, an d were generally unhelpful/condescending. Done with this place.EDITTING TO DEAL WITH OWNERS RESPONSEInaccurate. I was told you would call to tell me what the cost would be before you did the the work; the fact that you could not provide an estimate does not justify doing the work without fulfilling your promise to call before.Secondly, the light came back on the THE DAY AFTER your repairs. I was out of town for a month, but i called immediately and scheduled my appointment.Third, you did tell me you would teach me how to check the coolant. Lying on the internet doesnt change thing....the fact that youre saying now that you offered to check and change it for FREE is insane to me. The dude at the front desk was lecturing me in an emasculating and arrogant way. that was what happened. I know because i was so amazed that it did happen, I immediately posted on the internet about it!fourth, i can complain because i did pay! and you didnt fix it! i went in, you said you would fix my coolant light problem, I paid money, I left. ONE DAY LATER, it was back on, which means YOU GUYS misdiagnosed and fixed something that was not the problem. I hope others see your response and my review and realize your priority is clearly on your own ego (particular front desk dude...wow.) rather than helping other people have functioning vehicles.instead of being defensive, learn about customer service, communicate better, dont make promises you cannot fill, do not blame things on the Customer. There are several other reviews with similar experiences both here and yelp.Other customers, know the owner is not being honest. I have nothing to gain here, I just now how hard it is to find a reliable/honest mechanic and was extremely disappointed and continuously frustrated by my trips to munich motorworks.
Very knowledgeable shop with reasonable rates. I have had them work on several of my BMWs and would gladly trust them with any of my older European cars.
Could not be anymore satisfied with the work these guys do. Been working with Joseph the owner for years, and he always makes sure everything is repaired beyond OEM specs, and that there won’t be any comebacks or problems later on down the road. I wouldn’t consider anyone but Munich motorworks if you have a BMW!
Fast, Fair, knowledgeable and friendly
These guys are truly enthusiasts when it comes to BMW and Volvos. Im in the market for a new whip and I think Euro is the way to go, but the process is daunting. The guys at Munich MotorWorks give me an honest inspection and let me know the full health of the car. Once I do get the euro of my dreams these guys will be the only ones servicing it.
Took my 03 GTI 20th AE in first time for a transmission flush and engine oil change. Gave me a breakdown of any issues, non appearant aside from brake fluid service reommended. Price was very affordable and they had me in and out same day within a few hrs! Using quality German Fluids and Oils. I will definitely coming back for the brake flush and any future work! Darby was an excellent service manager and I couldnt ask for better service.
Great service and communication, honest advice!!
It is a real treat to come across such a personable and professional shop. This place cant be beat for BMW (and Im sure other makes) performance upgrades and older model know how that can be so hard to find.
This place is solid. They hook it up. Good people.
Best in the business and fair pricing
Best import service shop in Oregon
They take advantage of those who are not knowledgeable about cars, so if you arent an expert beware, no just avoid, find an honest shop.
Impeccable shop and service. Thank you.
This is the shop you take your car to and tell all your friends about.
Very kind people
