Very Friendly staff and a great place to workout. However, the facility can use a remodel and a pool!
Love the programs and how diverse it is. My son is having so much fun meeting new friends and learning new things through their programs.
With the development of programming, introduction of the nutrition kitchen and introduction of the Lu, the YMCA is offerings the City of Portage some very unique experiences. More is on the horizon. Proud of the direction our Y is headed!
Staff does not have the capability of handling children with certain diagnosed disabilities even after excepting children into their programs. Was an issue w/ their daycare when they had one and now their summer camp as well. I am an active military service member and finding good childcare is a must. I recommend finding somewhere other than the Y. They charge too much to not employ staff that can engage more one on one with children.
So much fun to go and play pick up basketball games
After careful consideration and based on my experience I decided to give the Y of Portage 5 starts. Here is my honest review:ProsPrice: This is kind of tricky, but I think that if you live in a household with more than 3 people willing to go to the gym then the Y is a great option for you. For individuals may get a little tricky as you can probably get cheaper gyms in the area. One thing that I like about the Y is that they give you a key ($25 one-time charge only) that gives you access to the gym 24 hours every day.Staff and classes: Staff is always friendly and the gym offers different classes and activities. I never took one, but seem to have a variety of them.Facilities: This one is also a little tricky as most of the equipment and the cardio machines are old, but be certain that everything is functional. If you want to do cardio they have treadmills, ellipticals, and stairmasters. If you want to do weights they also have different machines as well as free weights. Again, most of this equipment is old, but if you seriously want to workout you have everything you need in there. The gym also has two small stretching areas, and (this is probably top notch) a basketball and a raquetball court. They also seem to have a whirlpool (that I never use) and an infrared sauna that seems to be on and off (that I never used either because rules dont seem to be strictly enforced i.e. shower before entering and always use a towel). By the way, the gym also has a nice walking/running area if you dont like to use a treadmill.Activities: The gym seems to have a ton of activities that you can participate.ConsI dont have many negative things to point out other than some of the facilities, the equipment, and the machines are a little too old. This is not a massive deal breaker though as you are able to perform all the activities that you want without a problem. The gym is clearly tailored to families, so if you are an individual you may need to think twice to join this gym as prices seem a little high for a single individual.
Great staff and the facility is very nice. Lots of cardio machines and enough free weights so most of the time there is no waiting for equipment. Would be 5 stars if the whirlpool was working :) ... will update later
A nice place to exercise with a good size locker room. Plenty of friendly people to socialize if needed.
Since the y is closed due to this virus are you gonna charge us membership dues
Great atmosphere to workout and enjoy family activities☺️
Lets be real here, $75 a month is a lot of money to pay for a less than satisfactory experience at a gym.... The facilities are old, and the locker rooms are extremely outdated. The whirlpool in the womens locker room has not worked since I joined two years ago, and has paint chips from the peeling ceiling at the bottom. Gross! Overall I feel this is a poorly ran establishment. I have had many issues with the Portage YMCA over the past two years, none of which have been addressed despite the fact that I have reached out by email and in person to management. The final straw was an incident that happened in the gym while my 17 year old son was playing basketball, that I feel was not handled appropriately. Ill contact the Board of Directors about that shortly and hopefully they will change the way they handle issues involving children. My family will never attend the Portage YMCA again. We have transferred our membership to the Valpo Y, and will continue to use the other local YMCAs.
Ive had no issues with the Y!
We are members of the Y, use the funzone regularly, and my daughter is heading into her second year at the preschool. Weve had only positive experiences with all of the staff and my daughter loves her class.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Have never been so disrespected before. A female employee at the desk was verbally harassing me. There were also young men screaming profanities and nothing was doing me about it after several complaints by others in the building. It was a horrible experience.
Locker rooms are consistently filthy, people at the desk are rude. Would not recommend.
Not a facility that caters to all families. Youth programs that only take place during that day is not right. They basically only cater to stay at home parents. Not fair to kids that have 2 working parents. Staff was rude when calling to inquire about this.
People The work here they always say hello.
Awful place. Besides losing kids and having a bitchy masseuse, it looks like it hasnt been cleaned for ever.
Good workout equipment, that’s about it
Gotta love the Y!
This is a terrible organization that overcharges and is very unorganized
Very unfair, prejudice and bias.
