I started studying Chinese with Rita about a year ago. Tried to get started on my own but wasn’t making too much progress, and was curious to see how working with someone could help me work around some of my roadblocks. One year down the line and I genuinely can’t imagine how much time and effort I’ve saved by working with Rita. I can read, write, understand and speak comfortably at an intermediate level, even with native speakers and native-language materials. I completed the HSK3 exam last fall and am already preparing to move onto higher levels. Every week, I still notice consistent improvements, even if when I’m not able to practice on my own time. The benefits of working with a native speaker, one with experience navigating the difficulties of learning a language, are endless. On top of that though - Rita is a phenomenal teacher. Rather than pulling from a textbook or teaching to a curriculum, she creates specialized material and won’t stop working until she is speaking directly to your abilities and comfort level. She is constantly researching and implementing new learning tools and platforms, and if it doesn’t exist, she’ll create one - from recording personalized podcasts, to writing stories, to building lessons into board games and your own hobbies. It’s a rare and refreshing approach to learning that will push you to work harder and smarter in everything you do.

I came to Rita with a decent low-intermediate knowledge of Chinese vocabulary and grammar but struggled to form all but the most basic sentences. After one month of working with Rita my speaking and listening comprehension both greatly improved. I attribute this improvement to her method of creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere for each session. One day she conducted a tea ceremony, explaining the ritual, and making tea for us to drink during the lesson. She takes a genuine interest in my daily activities, hobbies and interests, creating endless topics for conversation. She will encourage you to text her questions during the week as soon as they arise, so that a teaching moment will not be missed. I am so fortunate to have her as my Mandarin coach.

My daughter has been taking Mandarin lessons from Ms. Rita for about a year now & she has learned so much! She orders from Chinese restaurants, speaks to her friends at school & neighbors, all in Mandarin. My daughter is able to do this because Ms. Rita has taught her through her main interests such as Asian TV shows, movies, school activities & music. Learning to speak about everyday relevant things has captured the attention of my daughter & has motivated her to work harder. Ms. Rita has such a wonderful style of teaching that my daughter looks forward to each week because it’s fun for her. We are so lucky to have found Ms. Rita & highly recommend her to anyone who wants to start speaking Mandarin or anyone who wants to improve what they already know.

A few months ago I decided to sign my son up for mandarin lessons even though he was only 2 years old at the time. I was hesitant, as I wasn’t sure if he would be able to learn another language at such a young age, but Rita is such an experienced professional that in only a few months he was using Mandarin day-to-day.I am amazed. She has been doing this for many years and my son loves her. She has an education in child development as well. You can not go wrong with Texas Mandarin! Highly recommend.Update: It’s been a few more months since my review and I had to give an update. My son absolutely loves Rita! She has the passion and kids pick up on that. When she went out of town for a few weeks we had a substitute and it was not the same at all. She truly cares about him and he noticed that.Another fun thing. I asked her if she could start teaching him numbers, well turns out he already knew 1-10 from the educational videos she had been telling us to show him. Amazing what your children are absorbing, you just have to make sure it’s the right material.I cannot recommend Rita enough.

We moved to Frisco one year ago. Our, now 15 year old, son had been taking Chinese since second grade at his previous school. Unfortunately, his HS in Frisco did not have a Chinese teacher. Rita came highly recommended and we are so thankful that she has been working with our son this past year. He loves having Rita as his Mandarin Chinese teacher and he continues to thrive in his Chinese learning because of her. He recently passed his HSK exam and couldnt have done it without Ritas instruction. We are so fortunate to that Rita has been helping our son improve his Chinese!!

I adopted my daughter from China when she was 2.5 years old. As she rapidly learned English when we returned to the US, I found Rita when we were looking for someone who could help her retain the Mandarin she had learned. Rita was so dedicated to helping us-always coming up with new ways to teach a toddler. She would come up with new games, find my daughters favorite characters books translated into Mandarin, and would even make us videos on the weeks we couldnt get up to Plano to see her. She is passionate about helping others learn, and she is a wonderful teacher and person.

Prior to starting my classes with Rita, I was trying to learn Mandarin thru an online course which teaches very formal spoken Chinese. I wanted to not only improve my Chinese but to understand it as it is truly spoken. She teaches Chinese as it is actually spoken on the street or between friends as opposed to the formal language presented in an online class. She structures her lessons around what is currently happening in my life which makes the lessons relevant to me. I have picked up much more grammar from Rita than from an online class. She teaches phrases which are not out of date. The pronunciation she provides is as the Chinese truly speak so that I hope to lose my international accent and actually sound Chinese to native speakers.

We met Ms. Rita in 2016 for Texas Mandarin Tutoring for our 9 year old son Victor. He is a creative, inquisitive but shy and we thought he would enjoy learning not only a new language but a new culture from outside his regular school curriculum. After 2 years we can honestly say our 11 year old is a much more extroverted in terms of his confidence to not only learn but speak in a different language. Neither me or my wife speak Mandarin which makes it even more exceptional. We could not be happier for the role Mr. Ritas Mandarin has played in our sons life and only hope we can stay with her for a long a Victors education continues!

My learning experience with Rita has been wonderful! One of the things that has really helped me improve is the fact that she speaks to me predominantly in Mandarin so that I get used to listening and understanding native speakers. She is also flexible and creative and uses events in my life to create lessons that help me express myself about them! I used to think that Mandarin was impossible to learn, but shes shown me that it really isnt.

I started tutoring with Rita in an effort to be able to better communicate with my in-laws and eventually speak mostly if not only Chinese at home (for the benefit of our future children). She really knew how to prepare lessons according to my desired goal and made a true effort to keep me interested and practicing the language on the days in between our meetings. I would highly recommend her services for those looking to start or improve their (Chinese) language skills!

I learned more in one lesson than I did in weeks of self-study! Each session is unique, and I like that my learning material is applicable to real-life experiences. It is tailored to my interest and learning preferences, and has given me a greater understanding of Mandarin and Chinese culture! I was able to pass the first level of the Chinese proficiency exam (HSK 1) after just 9 lessons with Rita, which shows that her teaching style is exemplary!!

I met Rita when my wife and I were planning a trip to China. I have a different learning style and Im in my 70s which made Ritas job very challenging. Then, I didnt even know how to say 你好 or Hello in Chinese.Rita took the challenge and developed a lesson plan that not only taught me enough Chinese to speak and understand many phrases, but I learned much of the Chinese culture which enhanced my learning experience. She used many creative methods to help me associate what I was learning with the situation.I was able to ask for a taxi, show the driver an address and say I wanted to go there, order food and ask for tea or water, ask hotel clerks how to find places, and best of all, barter with the street vendors (even if I still paid too much).Rita prepared a travel booklet for me with English/Pinyin/Chinese words which helped me remember phrases and recognize signs. And her help with my pronunciation had my friends in China commenting that I sounded like a native.

My son’s development of the Mandarin language has improved exponentially since starting weekly tutoring sessions with Rita. He’s developed conversational capability - Rita goes out of her way to engage him by discussing his interests and activities as a regular part of the curriculum.

I had absolutely no experience learning mandarin before I found Rita online and from the first lesson I knew I found the right teacher. She has made the learning process so engaging and genuinely fun! I have only been with her since March 14th and I was able to pass HSK level 1 on May 11th. Her patience and persistence while teaching me was so unbelievably helpful. I look forward to my classes each week because I know I have a teacher that is wholeheartedly interested in helping me learn and grow on this journey. She goes above and beyond to help find the best learning strategies and personalizes her lessons depending on what you want to learn or are interested in. For example, she is teaching me how to order food. She even takes to time to help me with vocabulary in class and finds the best way to phonetically memorize everything. I also appreciate that she checks in with me in between lessons, when she sends me an incredibly helpful diagram or recording it motivates me to practice and study! I believe she is very passionate about teaching and it makes me passionate about learning.

Rita plans lessons around what you will ACTUALLY use and keeps it simple. She is willing to teach you as much as you are interested in learning and has a natural skill in teaching. I have learned so much that I am able to use on my Asia business trips. An extra bonus that sets Rita apart is the tools she provides - travel reference cards, Google classroom, Quizlet, Youtube videos, and learning apps. Definitely a great learning experience and well worth the investment!

I met Rita when I was somewhere between HSK3 and HSK4, the point when you make it or break it with you Chinese study. Or you become fluent, or you get lost and all you can do it to sing in Chinese. The best thing about Rita is she understands what I need and what I like, and plan her lessons around me and my life. For example. I love Daniel Wu, so we end up learning through his movies and reality shows! Or she can keep texting with me for hours about my ex boyfriends!!!I work for a Taiwanese company with co-workers from Mainland, Taiwan, and HK speaking Chinese around me from 8 to 6. By the time I met Rita, I can only recognize simple sentences like Good morning, Thank you Whose is this, yes, no when my coworkers speak with their normal speed. I can carry on some basic conversation in lunch room, but only with the people who know my vocabulary foundation and only with certain easier-to-listen accents.I spent around half a year with Rita, 2 classes per week plus regular texting and phone calls after class. Now I can understand 90% of what my coworkers are talking about, both work-related or chit-chat. I can write simple Chinese emails and can talk over the phone in Chinese with customers and vendors (of course its also because I get used to the certain vocabulary and common situations of my job). Chit-chat is no longer a problem. Grocery shopping feels very easy at 99 Ranch. Now if someone approaches me and speaks to me in Chinese, I can respond to them at ease. I feel very comfortable speaking Chinese.Rita is a very dedicated teacher. Shes also very creative so you wont get bored!
