Really genuinely good people. Honest, efficient, and kind, I cannot recommend highly enough. They do have a wait time of about a week for appointments, but its for good reason (top notch service).

Mr Walter was very friendly and helpful in checking out my car and pointing out the issues I had. Couldn’t get it repaired in house soon (they’re too popular!) but referred me elsewhere to get it done quickly and affordably.

Went here for my yearly PA Inspection + Emissions and was super happy with their service. Dropped my car off 9-10am, and got a call back at 2pm saying it passed and was ready for pick up. They were expeditious and most importantly affordable; I payed $59 and change for Inspection + Emissions. 5/5 stars, will use again!

Piling on to the heap of positive reviews. Ive taken my car to Walters 3 times for state inspections and different issues and they have always treated us well. I used to dread dealing with car maintenance because of all the sketchy shops I have had the misfortune of dealing with in the past. Walters is not like those shops at all. I actually look forward to calling Walters because I know there will be no BS and they will do a good job. They do get busy, so dont put off calling them if you know you will need some work. Unbelievable that there is a shop this good out there. Other mechanics wish they were Walters. I have also had good experiences with Merlinos for work vehicles, but I think they recently moved to Etna from the strip.

I realized my inspection was up at the start of the month. I called the 5 closest shops to me. Walter’s was the only place that told me to come in the next day, the rest only had availability weeks out. Dropped the car off at 9am, got new brake pads and rotors, car was ready by 3pm same day. Pretty reasonable prices. Would come again

Walters is great for any car repairs, maintenance, or state inspection. They treat you very well there and give you honest and fair prices. Usually you drop your car there in the morning and they call you in the afternoon when its ready. Location in East Liberty is very convenient. Highly recommend.

I went to Walters automotive for inspection. Walter check the car, and said the bake, rotor and lower front control arm, lower control arm fail to pass the inspection, and offered 1500 to change these parts. I am a little bit skeptical, because I change the brake pads last years. So I took car back. I check the car, the rotor and control arm is rusted, I decided to replace them. But the brake pad and the engine mount are still good. As you can see in the picture, the upper part is a new one, the lower part is the old one, and old one still is in very good condition. So I return the new one, put the old one back. Then I go to pepboys for re-inspection, pass. This auto shop cannot be trusted.

We had a front-end wobble, and were expecting $1500 for tie-rods et cetera. Walter looked at it and found that one of the tires was way out of balance; he charged us just $90 and fixed it.

I am not really adding anything new to the conversation with this, but these guys are simply the best. I can not recommend them enough, every time I come to them theyre straightforward and friendly. Going to be advertising them to everyone I can.

Walter was very accommodating and always made sure to call before doing any major unexpected work.He was honest and did a good job.He is very popular so appointment times represent that. Ive had to make appointments two weeks in advance due to how busy he is, but is worth it if you arent in a rush.

Have taken my car to Mr. Walter for ~ 3 years. It was mostly oil change, inspection, emission test etc.. for the first 2 years. It was all fairly good except the price is a little bit higher.This year, my car had engine problems. The engine light went on and off. So I took the car to Mr.Walter for diagnosis. The problem got fixed by having the coolant bypass valve replaced. However, after 2 days, all of the coolant were leaking while I was driving and the engine overheated. Had to take my car to the nearest dealer and I was told that the hose between engine and coolant bypass valve needed to be replaced for 900 bucks. Although the dealer said it was the hose issue rather than the coolant bypass valve, I am still wondering why my coolant valve got replaced in the first place for clearing the engine light issue. Mr. Walter explained it to me that the coolant valve had to be replaced and now the hose issue is absolutely nothing related to coolant valve. It was largely likely that the hose should be replaced in the first place rather than the coolant bypass valve and also the mismatch between the newly replaced coolant valve and hose might cause the coolant leakage.I am pretty frustrated and end up paying 1300+ bucks for solving the initial one engine light problem.In conclusion, for small maintenance and repair, Mr. Walter could be your choice. But for more complicated problems, you may need to hesitate.

Best mechanic Ive ever worked with, hands down. Very up front and honest, always trying to help you make things affordable. My only complaint, if I had to have any, is that they are too good, their demand exceeds their supply, and it can take a while to even get your car scheduled to go in, let alone get it back. But its worth it!

Walter is the most honest mechanic you will ever meet. He also charges a fair price for all work performed. The only negative is that if you need something done quickly, it wont work out. Scheduling time is a week or two out, and you must be there on your scheduled day. Small operation, but overall very good.

I first went to Walter’s after moving to PA and needing this new, weird inspection thing. These guys were super helpful, extremely reasonable pricing, and never tried to do one over on me. I’ve since returned to this garage three times now and will plan using them for all of my automotive needs. One recent story was when I stopped by the garage to ask a question about an issue I was having after a friend of mine did a repair and they didn’t try to sell me on something. They advised what they thought it was, told me a couple questions they’d ask my friend if they were me, and then gave me a super reasonable quote if I wanted them to do it. Super good group here, and I highly recommend!

Nice people and honest mechanics.It took me a long time to find this excellent workshop for annual inspections. Since then I keep coming here because Walters never disappoints me.I am kind of a home mechanic. I do repairs by myself when applicable. These experiences help me distinguish an honest mechanic from a bad one. Usually a bad one will try to convince you that they are professional, your cars integrity is critical and every dollar they charge is necessary while they keep providing false info about the situation of your car. The worse ones will even deliberately deny some parts replacement so you thought they were trying to save you money. However, Tim in Walters is actually a good honest guy! He provides low cost (sometimes even free) and effective repairs.The only complaint is that their scope of service is too narrow. For some other services I have to find another workshop.

I Took my Civic into Walter’s for an inspection and emissions test. They got it done quickly and efficiently, and when I showed up to pick up the car the mechanic who worked on it (Tim JR) explained to me my different measurements And he even rotated my tires without me asking because they needed it. Phenomenal experience. They squeezed my inspection in so that I wouldnt miss my due date after registration. Friendly, helpful and affordable. Cant recommend them more as a place to complete inspection. I hear theyre great for actual repairs as well however I did not need to personally test that as my car was 100% at its check up.

I took my car to Monro in Cranberry and they charged me $50 just to look at my wipers and had my car for about 5 hours. When they called me back they said they needed to replace the entire motor for the wipers and that it would cost $1000.I took my car to Walter’s Automotive in Bloomfield/Shadyside instead and they found that only the linkage needed to be replaced. They fixed it all for only $130 compared to what would have been $1050.I used to go to Walter’s all the time when I lived nearby and even though I live further away now it is still the best place to go. They are friendly, know their stuff, and don’t overcharge you.

They gave me a much better price than the first shop I went to, were honest and fair in their prices, and didnt charge me for a bolt they had to replace when it snapped on them. I had to leave my car overnight for the work, though, and no one bothered to call when it was finished, which is why Im giving it 4/5 stars. Ill probably be back whenever my car has needs in the future, and for next years inspections.

On one occasion, when my car broke down across town, he drove out to my car to diagnose it just so I wouldnt have to pay to have it towed to his shop in case he couldnt fix it. He couldnt in fact fix the problem, so he then called around to other mechanics he knew until he could get me a good recommendation of where to get my car towed to. He didnt charge me for any of this. Ill never go to another mechanic in Pittsburgh - hes earned my loyalty!

Tim at Walters Automotive is the best mechanic Ive found. He charges very reasonable prices, works quickly, does a great job, and is as honest as they come.One time, my car was having a problem, and Tim remembered that there was a recall on the problematic part for my year of car. (I bought my car used, and the recall was over 5 years old.) I would never have known that the part was recalled, and Tim could have fixed it himself (it was like a $150 repair for parts and labor). But instead, he told me about the recall so I could get it fixed for free at the Honda dealership. Hows that for trustworthiness??!There are a couple (very minor) downsides. Occasionally it will take Tim a couple minutes to find your invoice or something, and sometimes he might occasionally leave his phone or a tool or something inside your car, so you will have to bring it back. Also, since the shop is a very small shop, there is not a waiting area (although it is right on the bus line, so you can catch the bus to a coffeehouse).I recommend Tim and Walters Automotive to everyone I know who needs a mechanic, because they are the best around.

Walters has been my go-to place for car repairs and inspections since I started driving in the city three years ago. Always been helpful, fair, knowledgable, and thoughtful.All these being said, I want to give them a special thumb up today: I just got my state inspection done today. When I was making this appointment a week ago, I asked for their records of my car repair from two years ago (the replacing part is involved in a current manufacture recall, I cannot find my copy). MAGICALLY, the very nice madam gave me a copy of exactly what I asked for!

They dont nickel and dime you at Walters. The mechanics are knowledgeable and arent out to rip you off. The work gets done promptly. If and when a problem ever arises, they fix it with no problems. I cant remember ever being more satisfied with services. I can say without a doubt, they are the best!

The man is a magician. He must be, to have kept my ancient beater running for as long as he has. Fair prices, warrants his work (even years later - I had some work done, moved to a different state, lived there for a year and a bit, came back, and then a part failed that he had worked on, and he replaced it for free), no fuss. You wont find a better mechanic in the East End.

Echoing what many have said, this shop is top notch and truly an honest business. Tim and the staff are very friendly, accommodating, and have great integrity. If your repair is not urgent, you will have to wait a couple weeks or more, but if you have a crisis, they will get you in as fast as they can. Ive called for everything from the electronic controls of my seat, to an oil change and inspection, to replacing my entire exhaust system, to answering my questions when my car was misfiring and getting me in the next morning and out in the evening (I have an old car, what can I say). I never felt like I was being jerked around, price gouged, or treated as anything less than a priority. I would (and have) recommend this shop to anyone.

I used Walters for several years while living in Pittsburgh. I found the shops service to be courteous and diligent. I got several second opinions from the shop which saved me quite a bit of money, and they spent a lot of time trying to diagnose a particular transient problem with my car, which finally got fixed after several tries to elicit it. Only complaint is that getting on the phone with them sometimes takes several tries due to the busyness of the shop.

Tim is a really cool and helpful guy. He checked out my car briefly and out-of-the-line (had exhaust system issues), diagnosed it for free, and sent me to a different shop (at no apparent profit for himself, also recommended a fair price twice less than an average quote). He was very willing to help out and did not try to rip me off at all.

Being new to PA, I have never had to do emissions inspections on my vehicle. With a new car, I only had about a week to obtain my stickers. Not only did Walters manage to squeeze me in pretty quickly, but they were very knowledgeable, courteous and SO fair. I felt like I was in great hands. Not to mention... Mr. Walter waited over an hour past closing time to wait on me to get there in traffic so I could get my car. I stopped by their garage before work one day to get a quote on a radiator repair. They were able to very quickly give me a price, and promised to have the job done by the end of the next day. I picked up my car as promised with no problems whatsoever. The staff is friendly and make me really appreciate a good family-owned business. The only downside is the small office and cramped parking lot, but Id go back for any car repair.

Brakes cut out on my car and I towed it to Walters. After inspecting it, they gave me a thorough description of what was wrong and what needed to be done. After consulting with them about my options, they decided that the work that needed to be done wasnt a good fit for my budget and for their shop. Instead of taking the not my problem mentality, they found another mechanic that would do the job, and then they drove it there so I didnt have to tow it or worry about it. Even though they were going to make no money helping me out, they went above and beyond to make sure that I was taken care of, and that level of service is priceless. Thank you Walters.

Honest to a fault. Tim will talk you out of doing work if he thinks its not the right choice, or help you get by until a repair is necessary. He also seems to have a photographic memory and will never forget any work hes done on your car. Theyre busy and backlogged because they are the best.

Awesome service! My cars hood wouldnt open. They took a look, fixed the problem and added washer fluid to my car all for free. It took about 15 minutes to fix the problem, but still they were really nice and willing to help.

Did state inspection here; workshop did the necessary repairs and explained why the repairs are needed.I should also mentioned that when I tried to send it two weeks ago, they apologised that they were fully packed and got me on schedule. Walter nonetheless gave a quick look at my car and serviced what needed to be done immediately and can be done quickly.Really satisfied with their honesty and fair pricing for the work done.

Tim saved me for spending a penny when my regular mechanic replace distributor $400 which was totally UNNECESSARY.After a 30 sec look, Tims FREE advice Clean the dam Throttle worked like a CHARM, NOT ONLY that, Tim insist me to to go back to my own mechanic where I spent $400 to get my stalling problem done. My regular mechanic for last 5 years, changed distributor, Tim advice me to use that as a chance to save my money. Tim even dont bother for his own business in comparison to customer satisfaction.I will never go to any mechanic ever.

I took my car (10-year-old Volkswagen Golf) here for three years while I was in college and I was extremely happy with them. The service is great, they do their best to fit you in if they can, and everyone who works there is very nice and, in rare mechanic form, very honest! If I ever move back to Pittsburgh, I will absolutely be going to Walters again.

I feel very lucky and grateful to have found this shop. My daughter is a student in Pittsburgh and she needed emergency brake work done on her car before she could drive home for Thanksgiving break (a 3 hour drive). I called Walters on Monday morning, they took the car in right away, and finished the work by Monday afternoon. The price was extremely reasonable and they did only the work that was needed and nothing more.

I was upset, for me time was important, left the car to go through inspection, they replaced the rear brake pads. and only for work they took $ 110, which is very expensive. I will never go back to this car service! in other places they charge $ 45-50 for replacing brake pads.

Don’t go anywhere else. Just don’t. They are always busy but it’s because they’re amazing. Not only can you trust that you won’t be cheated but they go above and beyond to make sure you’re taken care of. Trust me, I once called them panicked from the side of the road not far from the shop and Tim came to where I was at to help get my car (and sanity) in good enough shape to make it there. Then they helped me figure out what to do with it after the fact. Completely above and beyond what is expected.
