I can not say enough good things about Dr. Backiels office. I have had anxiety about the dentist for as long as I can remember. My experience here was so the best and most comfortable I have ever felt. Dr. Backiel is warm, patient, and so friendly. Jen is so kind and intelligent. I am not excited about the cavities, but for the first time ever I am not anxious about getting them filled. Thank you all!!

Dr. Backiel is truly a joy of a dentist. The work she does and energy she brings is incomparable, and by far my favorite dentist Ive been to. When my insurance was going to change, I made sure that it aligned with her office to ensure she stayed my dentist. And her assistants go above and beyond everytime. Peter is a teeth God lol, he is though! Hes a perfectionist that always leaves my smile extra shiny. I love our conversations and visiting with him, hes someone I trust fully with my dental care and board game knowledge. If you arent sure where to go, go here, they do top notch work.

Before I became a patient with Dr. Backiel I never understood what the importance of dentistry was. Her as well as her staff really take the time to explain things to you and give you every option possible to save your teeth. Came in for some fillings and a cleaning and as someone who is not a huge fan of dentist it was such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The front desk is extremely helpful and welcoming. Allison was amazing while working on my teeth and she made sure I felt comfortable throughout my time there.Dr. Backiel is very professional and made sure I understood what she was working on and why. She laid out a plan for me that was easy to understand and they took my insurance.I am more than happy to travel the 2 hours to go to Dr. Backiels office and I would highly recommend this practice to everyone.

Dr. Backiel is patient, kind, and accommodating; her PAs Ashley and Peter are saints. Her bedside manner is exceptionally calming, which is necessary for someone like me with severe — like, incredibly extreme and very embarrassing — dental anxiety. If you are terrified of the dentist but need to go anyway, Dr. Backiel will take great care of you.

I recently had a visit at the office and I could not be happier with my treatment! During times of this pandemic, it is comforting to see the plans in place to have a safe and clean environment, and that is how the office is set. I was greeted by reception and after a short wait, I was taken back by the hygienist, Shannon, who did a great job of easing my stress and performing a thorough examination. Dr. Backiel was responsive to my needs, had great knowledge, answered all of my questions, and appointed me to a quick follow-up where the EFDA, Peter, was a magician at helping renew a crown on my front tooth. Overall, the fears I had of going to the dentist were alleviated and I will continue to use this practice for my dental visits from this point on.

My first appointment went ok.During my second appointment office was visibly overbooked, person in the next chair left after waiting for her cleaning for over an hour. All that put pressure on stuff and midway through my appointment doctor disappeared and the assistant was doing my fillings. Which is fine but they ended up filling in between my teeth. After multiple attempts to fix it, dr was brought back in and they decided to drill it all over again and redo the filling. I didn’t get as much as an apology but an acknowledgment of what happened.After anesthesia wore out it was obvious there is a huge space left in between the other two teeth, which was extremely uncomfortable. Their initial recommendation was to just put a crown on it even though there was no mention of this previously. Eventually they just redid the whole filling on that tooth as well.Based on overall positive reviews It may be isolated experience but it didn’t feel rightI’ve decided not to come back.

By far the best dentist I have ever been toovery clean office and Dr. Backiel did a great job on my teeth im not afraid to smile anymore and her staff made me feel comfortable in these times of uncomfortableness I definitely will be back and I will recommend all my friends and family to Dr. Backiel.

It pains me to leave this review. I have been a patient of Dr. Backiels for seven years. I referred multiple friends and family members and even had my son visit on a few occasions. During moves and job changes I remained loyal to her and still traveled to Center City and paid the exuberant parking fees to visit her. She has always been very pleasant and friendly and her services were good. Well, I called yesterday to cancel an appointment today as my son had school virtually due to a snowstorm. This morning I was called by her receptionist who gave me other options I could come in today. I told her today was impossible as, again, I had my son and only made the appointment because I was expecting him to be in school. She initially tried to tell me that there were no other dates to reschedule in the near future as the office was short-handed due to Covid and the snowstorm. I was asking for appointment 2-3 months away! Snowstorm in April?? After a few more questions from me she said that she was sorry and that it was their policy. I was confused. After more prodding she said that I already had a lot of appointments rescheduled and had a fee waived once ($75 if not rescheduled within 72 hours). Soooo....let me be clear: Ive had to reschedule SIX appointments in SEVEN YEARS. They waived the fee for one because my heat wasnt working in my home and I was waiting for the gas company to show. Im sure the other five times were equally important as I just dont cancel appointments for fun. After I explained this to the receptionist she told me that maybe it would be best if I find another dentist. What?? Really?? Because I had to reschedule to stay home with my seven year old?! I told her that she was rude and that that was an unacceptable response to someone who has been a loyal patient of Dr. Backiel. Its insane that I would get that tone and language during this climate. Also, as a sidebar, their offices were closed on Monday and Tuesday due to the same snowstorm that has my son in school virtually today. Im sure it would have been fine had I had an appointment on any of those two days. Rescheduling would have been a breeze as it would have been Dr. Backiels decision to reschedule. Its absurd and unprofessional. People have emergencies. Things happen. People are single parents. It doesnt seem like this office understands nor cares about that. Hopefully my next dentist will be more understanding and appreciate my business and referrals.

This is the dentist I saw in Philadelphia. Looked at my x-rays and said I needed 6 root canals and handed me a Care Credit Application to get the funding for the procedures.I then went to the University of Penn Dental School and they recommended the opposite. 8 year later I still have all alive teeth thanks to the student dentist at UPenn and not 6 dead rooted teeth with a crown on top.Never ever trust a Dentist...The profit incentive is very hard to pass up in this profession.

I usually don’t like going to the dentist, like most people, but Dr. Backiel and all of the staff makes you immediately feel comforted. Everyone is so nice and real with you, great atmosphere. They do an excellent job with their services, never putting me into pain or discomfort... I never want to go to another dentist again! I moved to Denver and even scheduled an appt with Backiel while I was in Philly for a work trip..and they were able to fit me in very quickly. Love this place! Highly recommend!

Dr Backiel and her staff are amazing! Dr Backiel creatively fixed a front veneer that broke off when I was in Europe. It turned out perfectly! She was able to save the veneer, working with me on pricing as I was uninsured; helping me make the veneer last util my insurance kicks in. I have been seeing her and her staff for over 5 years now and would never go anywhere else.

Let me first start off by saying how warm and inviting the staff is. They are so kind upon arrival that it definitely eases any nerves one might have. I’ve always had very negative dentist experiences until I moved to philly and came to Dr. Backiel. Since my very first appointment, everyone has never failed to make me feel comfortable and informed. Before, my old dentist would never tell me what was happening and when. Now, I get a heads up and an explanation about everything. Being in the know really helps ease my nerves. Also, can I just say how amazing their therapy dog is?? She is SO great! What an amazing idea! For those who are a bit more nervous, they have a certified therapy dog who literally will sit on your lap if you want her to!! This dental office should be the standard for all in the country. Everyone could learn something from Dr. Backiel & Associates.

Ive been going to Deborah for years. As a contractor, sometimes shes actually a bit outside of my area, so for a while I thought Id find something closer. I did, and proceeded to go directly back to Deborah. It took that experience for me to understand what a gem it is to have her as a dentist. Not only does she care, but she is extremely capable. Ive been arguing for a while now that shes one of the top 3 best dentists in the city. Also throughout the years she has acquired a very capable staff. Fantastic dentist and office.

I just started going to Dr. Backiel, and so far, so good. I called to make an appointment for a cleaning, and they were able to fit me in in a couple of days. I then had to follow up for an issue they found, and they were able to fit me in the next day. Everyone is pleasant and professional. My only complaint was at the follow up, I had to wait almost an hour for Dr. Backiel to actually come in. She would say, Ill be back in five minutes, then not come back for well over that. I know Im not the only patient there, but it was still a little frustrating. That being said, I will be going back!

I would avoid this dental practice at all costs. I am pretty sure that while I was a patient, they saw my robust dental plan as opportunity to bill me for everything under the sun. Every year, Dr. Backiel would push me over my out-of-pocket maximum and bill me hundreds more after insurance for procedures I did not need. The absolute kicker -- they performed a root canal on me using an assistant who was not officially employed by the practice. During the procedure, I was asked how I was feeling and instinctively replied Im OK, how are you?, to which I was told Im a little nervous, this is a working interview for me. This was after I had already signed paperwork stating I could not sue for any mistakes made during the procedure (which there were many casued by the interviewing assistant). This kind of behavior is wildly unacceptable, but was viewed as totally fine by Dr. Backiel when I presented my complaint. My wife and I have both since left this practice and will never use them again.EDIT: Its amazing how quickly you responded to this when your reputation is in jeopardy. This 100% happened. It was an older African American woman who made several mistakes during the procedure that needed to be corrected by your oral surgeon. Yet, when I presented the issue to your front desk immediately after the procedure (as well as in a survey later on), I was dismissed immediately. GFY.

Seems that every patient needs a root canal, a crown, or some other absurd procedure. My wife and I both went here, got our teeth that drilled out to the point they now need a crown (and spent $700 between both of us). Of course when you say insurance doesnt cover crowns the filling magically is ok for 12-14 months (when your coverage kicks in).Although the staff are pleasant and the office nice, the practice of scaring patients into expensive procedures is unacceptable at best. Sorry, but avoid this dentist.

Like many people the Dentist has never been one of my favorite experiences. I can nervous and tense as soon as I walk in the office. Dr. Backiel and staff do a wonderful job of making you feel relaxed and at ease. She makes time to listen to concerns and cares about me personally. All staff at the office are considerate and personable. They send out several reminders so you dont forget your appointments. On your cleanings you never feel rushed or like they are squeezing too many people in the schedule. If you do need work done Dr. Backiel once again will calmly take you through each step. Explain the pros and cons and make professional recommendations. If you are looking for a Dentist I would highly recommend Dr. Backiel and Associates.

Like Mark Ds review, i found that an extreme amount of work was recommended and have reason to believe it was in the financial interest of this office rather than in the best interest of the patient (me) While replacing one of several fillings recommended, my tooth was drilled to the point that i needed a root canal, and crown.I went elsewhere for these procedures. The endodontist and other dentist that i saw were both surprised to hear about this offices recommended treatment plan for meI have very good dental coverage, but this mishap still cost me upwards of $2,000Giving 2 stars because the hygenists and office are nice..

Dr. Backiel and her staff are by far the best dental professionals I have had during my lifetime. Their focus is dedicated to preventive care as to avoid long-term or issues regarding dental hygiene in the future. They have the latest and most modern equipment and everyone in the practice always wears a smile throughout your visit.

Dr. Backiel is friendly, caring, and very knowledgeable. The downside is that she doesnt check your teeth when you come in for a regular cleaning. It would be nice if an actual dentist looked at your teeth when you go to the dentists office.

Service is excellent. Dr Backiel has been my dentist for 15 plus years. I hav had mucho dental work done there and Dr Backiel and her staff has ways been there for my regular and many dental emergencies. Dr Backiel or “Dr Deb” as I refer to her even once came to the office on a weekend hours before flying out for vacation to help me with a bridge that had fallen off. Never have I gotten service like that before. Highly recommend her and her staff.

Shes built a terrific team of hygienists and a friendly reception staff who will research your individual insurance plan and explain exactly what is covered and what isnt. I have been looking for a great dentist office like the once I previously went to before I moved to Philadelphia. This place looked very promising. I had gone to a different office where I was told I didnt have any cavities but still had pain here and there so I decided to go to Dr. Backiels to get a second opinion and make sure everything was ok. Because I was a new patient, I purchased the $99 deal which included a cleaning and x-rays. Since I had gone to that previous dental office mentioned earlier where I had gotten a dental cleaning already I asked if it would be possible for me to save that cleaning for the next time I needed a cleaning. They assured me that would be okay and that they would make a note. They never wrote a note on my chart so this time I ended up paying $110 for this cleaning, which I received last week. Dr. Backiel was extremely dismissive and rude and could care less about what I was trying to explain. She didnt spend more than 20 seconds talking with me, she just quickly shut me down. They said they were going to get to the bottom of the issue and call me back this Monday. It is now Friday and I have not received a call back. Another thing is that they did not take any time to discuss any comments they had about my oral health which I am pretty used to from other places, not because I have poor oral health but just to have an overall conversation. I was going to dispute this charge with my bank but to be honest maybe they need it more than I do so I will let them keep it. I do not recommend this office to anyone, especially if people are treated the way I was treated. I think I will drive the extra 30 minutes twice a year to continue attending my previous dental office.

Dr. Backiel is a sexy and smart lady. Her staff is as friendly as she is. I feel the doctor is an alarmist though. I had a few issue and she always presented me with the most expensive option and the cheapest alternatives to follow. Another issue I have with her office policy is that 2 day notice. With the job I and my wife have, we are not always able to give 2 days notice if we have to cancel. My other issue is i have never had to have work that was completed worked on again due to pain. Yes she is pretty and smart, I just dont think she is as good as the money she charges.

So glad that I found this place. The staff is friendly, the office is very clean, and everyone is very knowledgeable about their professional. Dare I say Im excited for my six month check up?

I really like Dr. Backiel but her office staff take away from how great the practice could be. During a snowstorm and below zero temperatures in Philly, where the city, schools and most businesses were closed, I was penalized for cancelling my appointment. I was told I needed to cancel in advance although the staff member I spoke to the day before told me to call and cancel if the appointment doesn’t wind up working out due to the weather. I was then told how they waved the cancellation fee for me the day before (during the snowstorm where there were several accidents due to the conditions) and in July (an appointment I canceled in advance because they did not obtain the required preauthorization for me to have the work done). I have been a patient for over 5 years and have referred several patients, but I will not be back! A business is holistic and unfortunately Dr. Backiel’s staff tarnishes how great this practice could be.

Ive been a patient of Dr. Backiel for YEARS, and I absolutely love her and all of her staff (including front desk). The location of her office is perfect, right at 15th/Market, and theres a personalized touch with each visit!

Expect to get told you need dental surgery, root canal or something every time you visit! She comes off as very nice to make you believe what she says. Scare tactics used for me personally into getting expensive work done. If you dont take care of it, you will need a root canal on the tooth. a month later. You need root canal on that tooth, it has decay and is infected. I got several root canals in less then one year here because this was the problem with every visit with all of my teeth. Boiling point was when she was insensitive to a weekend emergency call when I was in severe pain from root canal. She gave me attitude and did not call in medication as she said she would, there fore I had pain all weekend until end of Sunday Personal opinion pets need to stay out of office. Every time you go to a dental office you should not have to expect bad news like you purposely dont take care of your teeth and have not picked up a toothbrush in 5 years. I wish I would have gotten a second opinion. Last time I was told I need a root canal, I had the guts to say NO and then was told okay but it is a ticking time bomb and tooth could give you severe pain any minute. A year and a half later, no pain from tooth got a filing and that has held me down thank God. Truth in every line of this.
