Great aesthetician, great energy. Nice and clean interiors, and covid-competent. I got a cut by Omar, and he fixed my hairline up strong, and threw in a dry shampoo at the end. Interesting you gotta pay with a ticket instead of regular transaction m, but overall its a great shop.P.S. If you lucky, you might catch a football player or two in there!

The only place in Philly I will let cut my hair. Everyone in here cuts good. My man Lou in here has been giving me the freshest fades for a few years now and I always feel like a million bucks walking out. Mr Will the owner is a professional and friendly man who always greets you when you arrive. There is also always a good movie playing on the TV. Good price and great atmosphere, plus the best fade of your life.

I’ve gotten my hair cut at south street barbers a few times before and the barbers that took me have done a pretty good job and was pretty nice and accommodating, but my recent experience there completely discouraged me from ever returning there to give them any of my business ever again. On Oct 29th I went to get a cut from one of the barbers that was recommended to me and I couldn’t have been more turned off with the service I received. I scheduled an appointment with the gentleman “Chris” for 2pm. It was raining that day and I didn’t know what the turnovers Time was going to look like for that day with Covid going on and bad weather so I decided to arrive 15-20mins early. He seemed annoyed that I arrived early so I suggested if he’d like me to wait until he was ready. Being that there wasn’t any place to accommodate my wait and he had no current clients he agreed to take me right then and there. When he asked me what type of cut I wanted I told him a fade medium light. I guess I didn’t explain myself good enough because he kept telling me that wasn’t telling him what I wanted. I don’t know the different types of fades there are because Im not a barber so I usually ask can I get a fade not too high and can you make it medium light and the barber cuts my hair as close to the instruction I gave prior to the cut. As he began to cut my hair in a very rushed manner and very carelessly. When I explained to him that he kept nicking me with his blades and being kinda rough with them he replied “I cut everyone’s hair the same even 5 yr olds” with total disregards to the discomfort I was experiencing. To shed light on this horrific experience I was having I decided to engage in small talk to lighten the tension between the barber and I. It helped a little because close to the end of my cut he was less abrasive with his clippers and little be more gentle on my already jacked up hair cut. He priced my cut lower than the ones I normally received there, maybe because he knew the cut wasn’t up to par. I paid for my cut and still tipped him $5 only because I believe supporting black businesses and I hope he felt kinda bad about about providing very poor service to a customer that trusted your work ethic and was willing to poor into your barbers craftsmanship. That was my experience at south street barbers and my last.

This is the only place that cuts my two sons hair impeccably. You get what you pay for so the cuts may be priced higher than average but you get a much more than average cut. Even their as their hair grows in between and it looks great. They are masterful in their barbering.

I came to this barbershop on a recommendation that they give clean cuts. Im fairly certain I conveyed how I wanted my hair style and cut (fade from the bottom up and a trim on the top but not too much as I do the comb over). Nothing too complicated but I left the barbershop 45 min later with a fairly uniform cut that resembled a buzz cut. They were very professional and took their time. Take this review as you will but I gave them a shot and sadly wont be returning.

I just moved out here about a year ago and was worried about finding a barber - I lucked out when I found this spot. Will is hands down the best barber Ive had in a while. I am always happy with my cut (and my wife is too, so thats whats most important). Also, the prices are incredibly reasonable. I saw some barbers at other shops charging double what they do here, for half the quality. Also, even though I get cut by Will, the other barbers are great too.Long story short- best barber shop in Philly.

I have had two bad haircuts out of the three times Ive been, all with different barbers. The first time was a good cut and was worth the average city price of $20 (now $23). The next two times were both bad cuts and uncomfortable experiences. Joe is a nice, but is his cut. He was rushing his cuts and still took an hour. I dont get anything crazy, just short on the sides and an inch on top or short with scissors. He somehow managed to cut my top with scissors almost as short as my sides with buzzers. On top of this, the chair was broken and crooked, and my barber asking me questions rapid fire the entire time. I wouldnt doubt that there are some good barbers here, but two bad haircuts in a row is enough for me and the increased price of $23 is too much. Unfortunately there are no decent barbers in university city and will have to drive further out to find a good place.

No greeting when you walk in the door. They treat you like you dont exist. I waited 1.5 hours to get a cut with only one person before me. I asked for a fade which wasnt even on both sides of my head. I was in a rush so I left and came back for the barber to finish the shape up and even it out. He got an attitude like I didnt know what a fade on my own head looked like. Hopefully this was just a one time thing but as for my first visit? Terrible.

By far, the worst experience I have ever had getting my hair cut. I have no idea how this place has even close to 4 stars. The moment you see the building you wonder how this place could be charging $20 a cut. The barbers resemble nothing of any artistry and I had a bad feeling the entire time. Lucky for them, all I wanted was a slight fide on my sides (didnt want anything touched up on top). The barber legit spent an entire hour and my scalp feels raw. During the process, he managed to legit rip my hairs out after telling him THREE times that it was legit ripping the hairs out of my scalp. He then proceeds to dig the shaver into my head and repeats oh sorry. He starts to take off the shaul and I kindly remind him to do my neckline. He hands me the mirror and from a quick glance I thought it was fine enough to get the hell out of there. He tries to take off the shaul and literally dumps all the hair on top of me without even realizing what he was doing. I give them their $20 just to get home and realize GROUPS of long strands of hair next to my ear that he completely missed. I only came here because the other barbers I usually go to were not available--so good to know I will never be returning here. Id pay double for the extra care, professionalism, and clean environment. I never leave reviews online because I couldnt care less, but honestly, these reviews are deceiving and being treated the way I was is not okay. You cannot advertise that youre the best barbershop in Philly and fail like you guys did. Legit forget any of the positive reviews that might make you think it is worth coming here like I did.

The barber was distracted. I could barely understand him when he talked. I had to tell him three times what I wanted. He cleaned up the cut all right at the end I guess.

I simply asked for a 1 on the sides and to leave the top as is. The barber took it upon himself to trim part of the top as he saw fit without asking. Piss poor listening skills.

My regular barber wasnt in on this particular day but Jeff took care of me exceptionally. I was a little nervous (Ive have really bad haircuts before I switch to South Street barbers) but he handled it very well and professionally. It goes to say that whoever it is at SSB, you are always in excellent hands

I thought I had a good cut until I got home and saw that there were still patches of hair around the sides of my head that werent cut to the same length. Also, the clippers that the guy used hurt like hell because they cut my skin.

The barber I had, Luis, was unprofessional. Not satisfied with my cut and the barber made me bleed a few times. He charged me extra for scissor cut without really asking. Would never go back. Hope you don’t come either.
