Great place and atmosphere to forget everything and focus on health and fitness. Have not been able to get into the gym scene until joining here. Its like peace of mind as soon as I walk in the door. Staff are helpful & make you feel comfortable
Great place to take the family on a sunny day for swimming. Even though the pool is usually crowded it is still tons of fun for us! We love coming here year round but especially love the pool during summertime.
Love it! People are nice and welcoming, I love the pool especially! My son and I had a great time there!
The facilities are great, well maintained and clean. The staff is kind and accommodating. Our family enjoys the time spent here
It’s a great place to workout. Plenty of room and the dude that runs it I believe Matt is great dude and ppl up front are very welcoming!
Beautiful outdoor pool. Showers clean. Racquetball courts. Very spacious inside. Very family friendly. Good customer service.
The facilities are clean and the staff is pleasant. My 5 year old grandson is in swim lessons with Ms Victoria. She is excellent and patient with the kids.
Nice facilities, friendly staff. Pool is too cold unless it is 90 degrees outside. Other than that I loved it.
My go-to gym in the area. Prices arent bad, masks are enforced, machines are cleaned regularly. Helpful staff, if you ask a question youll get an answer. Especially nice at night.
I am happy with the gym inside but it is impossible to get a chair to sit around the pool. I joined this place to have access to the pool but it’s always to full and people hog all the chairs around it. It’s very frustrating. My daughter and I walked in just to have to walk out and I wanted to spend my one day off at the pool but that was a no go.
We have kept our membership through this entire shut down. Tried to take the kids swimming today. They passed the test to swim in the deep end but there is no longer a place for older kids to swim. The adults can play and stand around in the lap lanes but the kids were told to exit the pool. There is not a lane for kids in the big pool. The head lifeguard said too bad go to another Y. The Y used to be a fun place for the kids. They removed the slide and only 4 ft swimming area …no so much fun for older kids
This is a great family Y. The facilities are great and well maintained, but the staff interactions are hit and miss. Many seem to be friendly and engaging while others are less pleasing to interact with.
Very clean facilities and helpful staff. Pretty busy on the weekends, but very calm in the mornings.
Pool is GREAT. the water fitness class is the best!
Everyone is very nice and so helpful.
Clean, diverse, well organized, great Yoga classes, great pool - All around great gym
Great family experience, spacious work out area, swimming pool available, and several activities to participate in.
Great gym and pool. The fitness center exceeded my expectations.
The workers are always nice and there when you need them. The locker rooms, showers, and toilets are always clean. Same with the equipment.
Amazing gym and very friendly staff!
Great place for the family to workout, have fun and relax.
I was working out at pizza plant, constantly setting off the lunk alarm and being told I cant walk around with a jug of water. The Y is amazing!!!! Great equipment and great people!!!!
Amazing pools and as always, costumer service is on point!
Matt and his staff are awesome! It is always a hit or miss with the type of people that sometimes come here (can be obnoxious and rude 🤮), but THE STAFF do a fantastic job at keeping this place up!
Sadly, I actually very much like the Y... when it actually open for use. Ive been going to the YMCA for the majority of my life. Yes, I know the past year covid has made it difficult for everyone. Guess what, its made it difficult for the people going to the Y as well. Cut your cost by half the next 6 months for everyone who maintained their membership for the past year. And please try to have a nice day.
A clean and well-maintained facility with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Always a pleasure to do our morning workout there.
I am a new member and I love how everyone is so friendly and I never ever feel intimidated in this gym. I would definitely recommend the Y to my friends. Lisa, who teaches body pump, was so informative and welcoming when she knew I was new to these classes!
What do I like about my Y experience? The atmosphere, the equipment, the variety, the staff....everything!! There is nothing I dont like about the Y in Pasadena!
Excellent equipment well maintained…
I love the Y - capable, friendly staff, great instructors, excellent value. Sometimes my 7-year old son and I just come and hang out because its such a welcoming atmosphere. He also loves the Stay-and-Play, which is a great program. I also really appreciate the fact that they are socially conscious and offer assistance so that anybody can join - they are doing their part to bring the community together.
Good. I signed up for the family plan. I really like it. One of the ladies up front that seems like a manager of some sort was a little on the unfriendly side, but the young lady who signed me up was excellent. Im looking forward to using this facility. Would have been 5 stars if the one person wasnt having a bad day. Not sure if it was me or what the issue was.
Amazing Place For Kids & Adults
Good workout facility. Very good equipment.
It was great they have great life guard and great trainers
Wonderful facility, good people.
Very nice people Very clean
Great facility, big with well-kept equipment, and family friendly!
This one is great with lots of space. No masks seemed to be required in Ellicott city. Man with no mask cackling away out of his face whole disgusting. I can’t go back in there so I’m just gonna give 30 days until they can figure it out
I just joined so I may not be too helpful with rating... but I checked out the facility, and it looked good! I joined because Im a single parent and they offer daycare while I work out. Also, they have a lot of activities that you can sign up for! I remember going to the Y as a child for summer camp and different things. It was fun! Cant wait to introduce my son to the YMCA experience. Ashley at the front desk was helpful and informative and friendly! Thanks Ashley!
Love the Y pool is open!!
I did personal training sessions with Mary.Mary gave us great workouts. They were doable and challenging. She always gave us alternatives moves to do if you could not do the moves given. She is fun to work out with and make the class enjoyable. I did miss two sessions and found out I could make them up at a later date. Class area was clean and temp was comfortable. If there was a workout session that you enjoyed Mary would suggest Y classes that you could take at a later time.
The y is an extremely clean environment. I especially appreciate when I walk into the state and play area how fresh it always smells. Especially during this time due to the current of virus.
Coach Camden is so good with my son. He is usually very shy and it takes him a while to warm up. Coach is great with positive reinforcement and draws him right out of his shell. We have tried other classes and he largely sat on the sidelines never getting involved. Our experience here is that he cant wait to see Coach and jumps right in. Would recommend and take the class again.
Kids always have a blast here
I have one problem . Its the current situation at the pool . At the pool you have to reserve a time slot, which we have tried a few times now but its always booked . Also, if you do get a time slot its for a whopping hour . Things are opening back up, people are getting vaccinated, and the pool is OUTSIDE . Drop the BS and fully open the pool !
The environment is clean, the staff are helpful, and the overall experience is great! The camps are amazing. This is coming from a person who did not like camp as a child. Now as a parent, seeing my daughter beg me to send her to the y camp every summer is really encouraging to see.
This is a great facility to have fun, get exercise, and develop new fitness skills. It is kept very clean and up-to-date with newer fitness equipment. The instructors ROCK. They offer a great variety of swim and exercise classes. I love it!
Great staff. The facility is fantastic and clean. The equipment is in great condition and the pool area is great. Class instructors are very friendly and hopeful. Would highly recommend people to check the place out and join.
The equipment is all new, always clean. The people and management are friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
Staff are super nice. Facility is kept pretty clean. 99% of the equipment is well maintained and they just recently replaced their old equipment for new updated equipment. Which shows that they are not complacent with how they operate. Has a cool Cafe that serves some tasty smoothies. They also have a child care whole you get your minutes and reps in.
Been involved with the Y for years . This one is very clean&customer service is awesome .
We love this Y!! So happy we get to stay here even after our recent home move. All staff is friendly and helpful. Equipment is varied and well kept. Trainers are amazing. And beyond that great smoothies... 😀
We plan to keep paying our monthly fee during the pandemic closure so the Y can still pay their staff. Hope others who are able can do the same! Stay safe and healthy.
Im disable and overweight. Yet the whole staff at the Pasadena Y treats me like everyone else. The whole staff is amazing from the front desk to the pool. If you did have trouble Matt Lewis will do everything to solve your problem. You will not be sorry for going. Even if you are over weight you will feel welcome.
I love the cleanliness of the gym. So safe and comfortable, too. The staff is super friendly. It is my home away from home!
Really good
It very clean all social distance is marked out for safety. Beautiful day at the pool.
The atmosphere was very inviting. The staff members were very helpful. In it was clean and didnt smell like a gym. And the space for children was staffed very well.
Truly enjoy this facility. Clean, well maintained equipment, with friendly and engaging staff members.. Glad I joined and plan to remain a member for years.
Great staff, great location. Bathrooms, locker rooms, showers and saunas are always clean. Equipment is updated and laid out well. Sanitation stations are located throughout the gym floor. Water bottle fill stations are also available.
Very friendly and welcoming environment. The equipment is new and easy to use. The facilities including the locker rooms, showers and bathrooms are always clean.
Everything in this building it will make you comeback even if you are far away. And mostly the outdoor pool that all my family enjoyed. I enjoyed doing laps a lot. So definitely I will strongly recommend that to all Others branches YMCA members.
Great facility. Theyve been taking health and safety seriously during the pandemic.
What do I like about The Y? The variety! So many ways to explore fitness and fun. The Instructors! Always helpful. The hours! Plenty of opportunity to fit a workout into my schedule.
Took over a Big Vanilla gym. Some of the best Y facilities Ive ever been to. Covered outdoor pool for winter use, also heated. Facility is very family friendly. Appreciate the smoothie bar inside as well.
Signed up today and had my almost 3 year old with me. The staff was so helpful with keeping him occupied while I finished up the paperwork that I needed. I returned later with my other kids to use the pool and we had a blast. It was busy but well staffed. I love that there are no contracts and the hours and activities are great. I cant wait to spend our summer here!
They keep it simple and straightforward! Kind people, too.
Great atmosphere, programs and staff. The CEO and Program Coordinator are professional and caring about YOUR success. Thanks YMCA of Pasadena
The Pasadena YMCA is great for the entire family. It has the best pool and outdoor playground activities in the area for the kids. Top notch cardio and resistance machines combined with the free weight training equipment and bodyweight stations provide endless options for adults to stay engaged and motivated with their personal fitness goals. The included stay-and-play service, fitness classes and clean bathroom/sauna facilities also are of top-tier quality and separates them from the other local fitness club options in terms of overall experience and value for the money.
The staff are extremely friendly. The facilities are always clean. My kids LOVE Stay and Play and ask to go daily (extra gym motivation). The fact that my children not only feel comfortable there but look forward to going is worth more then I can explain.
Bill and Barbara are the best swim instructors in the area. We choose to drive to the Y in Pasadena instead of our more local Y because they are such excellent instructors. Both my children significantly improved their swimming skills this summer with two round of lessons. I highly recommend the Y in Pasadenas swim program.
Well maintained and fully stocked. This gym has it all. All the weights you can think of, newish equipment. Never a real wait for equipment. 3 Pools which get kinda crowded during the summer months, but nothing horrible. Kid care is amazing and the summer camps are nice.
Clean . Lots of equipment. Great vibe ! Great shakes also . Friendly staff.
I love going to the Y. My kids love the childcare center and as a mom of 5 that makes a huge difference in my ability to take care of myself.
This is a really nice gym with great amenities. It was better when it was Big Vanilla, but its still a great place. The pool was certainly much better before The Y took over. It can get crowded too. But the staff is very friendly and overall, its a wonderful option for a family gym.
Good management, friendly staff, nice facilities
Most of the reviews for this club are old and they should be taken down because what people are saying about this club is not what I have experienced. The negative reviews are mostly from more than a year ago and the staff has changed at this club and it is not fair to them for these negative reviews to still be up. I joined this club back in May 2014 -- this is the first gym I have ever belonged to and I could not be happier with my experience since I joined.I have met several of the staff members and EVERYONE, from the general manager to the front desk staff, have all been very accommodating and nice to me. I have never felt like I am just a number to them. They are all encouraging and easy to talk to. If I have questions regarding my weight training or calorie intake, Ive never been intimidated to go up to the personal training desk and ask -- they answer all of my questions and give me tons of information that I would not have known otherwise. One of the many benefits as a member is a tremendous program that is called the WELL program. For this program they take your measurements and give you free advice on nutrition and exercise -- I have taken advantage of this program and cannot wait for my 8 week follow-up to see my results!I joined this club being scared to death because of the stigma that comes along with joining a gym. Well, I can honestly say that I was scared for nothing. The members are just as friendly as the staff because we are all there to achieve a certain goal.I have been impressed with this club from day one -- it is very clean, the machines are always in working order, they have a cafe that serves healthy food and drinks, they offer a lot of free classes (Ive recently started taking group classes and love them!) and their swimming pool is awesome! If you are looking for a friendly atmosphere and great club, Big Vanilla is the club for you!!
So much better now that the Y is running this place over big V. Much more family friendly and casual with a focus on fun. Examples: easy access to the pool via the back gate, the new splash park for the young kids, opening up the second pool for families, etc... Reasonable pricing as well.
Perfect for the entire family! My 3 year old loves the pool. The wife and I love the atmosphere. Gotta get my teenagers to come more often.
Plenty of equipment and space for any type of workout you may like to do. Standout feature for me is definitely the pools. theres three outdoor pools that they cover with some sort of giant dome in the winter so it can be used year-round. Ive never seen anything like it before. Well worth the higher membership price. I left a golds gym in the area paying almost twice as much for this gym but it was 100% worth it!
Love the Y. The sauna is great and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The best part is that I can bring my son to the stay and play so that I can get a workout in even though I have a newborn.
I pay 91$ for my membership they do offer cheaper plans. Nonetheless, it includes 4 adults and any amount of kids that I want to bring. Since, I have 2 ages 5 and 6 its a plus! Also, membership is no contract, can change the date of auto draft and the plan anytime! Love the new equipment and how clean it is. I can go to any other locations as well. They have a nice pool here and sauna. So many free classes and dont have to get tickets first. Always offer kids activities and before and after care👍👍Definitely best gym I have been too, Worth the money!
Great gym and fitness center. Plenty of space for serious lifters and athletes as well as for casual goers and families. Never overly crowded.Staff are friendly and do not interfere with your exercise routine to enforce unnecessary rules on weightlifters; a feature of some fitness centers.
We going The Y about 10 months ago. We love it! Staff has always been nice and helpful! My daughter took her first swim class with them in May it was well priced and classes are small enough that she got a lot of one on one and her teacher Catie was great with all the kids. She sold me on the swim lessons there! Not only will my daughter take more swim lessons son will be taking private ones hopefully once I can sign him up and i am not be so busy with work! I know a lot of people get upset about the pool but I wish people would look at things all the way around. The hours are what they are my daughter misses naps on the weekend if we go at 11 or we go after nap. Sometimes we have to go with the flow. As for the diapers being allowed well I hate to say it you signed up and agreed to their terms! I thought well maybe a few for repeat offenders but really it is going to be what it is.
A lot of variety in regards to cardio / weight machines; good schedule of classes; very well maintained and clean. This gym is pretty much the Gold Standard to compare others with.
The Y is a family and fun gym to come to. Its not 24hrs like some gyms. I love it at the Y. My friends and family love it here. Things you can do.Racket ballBasketballSwimming poolWork out areaYogaPersonal trainingAnd more. The staff are amazing . Check it out...
Very family friendly. Updated equipment and unique offerings for exercise.
Its clean and they have plenty to offer...as long as you arent looking for a squat rack, of which there is one.UPDATE: improved rating after many new investments in the gym... including new squat rack!
Super happy with their safety precautions for the pool.
This is a very nice gym! Lots of friendly staff, clean bathrooms and lots of open rooms and exercise equipment within the facility. The large gym area has many free/body weight set ups but only one squat rack, thus depriving it of a 5 star rating. Overall, its an excellent facility with lots if amenities including a few pools that get covered and heated during the winter.
I cant say enough good things about the Y in Pasadena but I will try to include a few here. I appreciate the effort it appears that the Y is making to be an inclusive and diverse environment, and to be truly community-focused. The staff is very pleasant, cheerful and competent and its just a nice place to spend time while working on your fitness goals. Keep it up!Other little perks are that most fitness options are available to pre-teens and teens. And though my children are no longer little, I also love that babies and toddlers are allowed in the main pool. Makes it actually possible for parents to swim. I wish that was the policy years ago!If I had to pick one improvement, I would say that the pool shower rooms need an overhaul to more effectively use the space. Theres not room for more than two or three adults per locker aisle. And the lockers are so small as to be unusable, especially if you workout and then swim and bring your kids, and you have all the changes of clothes that go along with that.
I have been a member for the past year and I absolutely LOVE the Big Vanilla in Pasadena. It allowed me to have quality family time whether it was swimming in the pool, or working out while my son was in the child care. Yes the prices are higher than any other gym, but it is worth it. You get so much more! Unfortunately with my financial status, I was unable to keep my membership before the contract ended. Both Sarah and Tiffany have been extremely helpful with my situation and gave me options so I wasnt stuck. Later in life when I am able to afford a luxury gym membership, I will definitely go back! Thank you Big Vanilla!
Love the outdoor poll. My children and I love swimming all summer long and we love coming to the Y in Pasadena.
Friendly staff. Alot of class offerings. The yoga classes are great for a YMCA. Felicia and Jen are fantastic!! Clean/organized equipment is a plus!
From a family experience I’ve taken the time to assess many aspects of this place. The men’s showers, sauna, and overall changing room needs some serious cleaning. The women’s bathroom I’ll give three stars. Sometimes the carpet area has a odor and the showers need cleaning. The Big Vanilla did a better job in that aspect. The rest of the gym is nearly the same. Sometimes there are machines broken, but I think that comes with any gym and thankfully they tell you when it will be fixed. The food at Jack’s is good and is the same as it was when it was in Big Vanilla as well. Maybe not worth the $38 monthly fee is you don’t go frequently, but I find it worth it.
Ive worked directly for the owner of Big Vanilla and I can tell you first hand he is a high pressure guy to work for. Here are my observations:The pool is great (especially in the summer time). The place is clean.Ive never been pushed to spend more money.I dont use personal trainers so I cant speak to there knowledge. The General Manager and or Head Sales Person is not a natural sales person. Once he signed my family to a contract he has never initiated a conversation or even said hello. He not a warm and friendly guy that you would expect from someone whos job it is to give you a positive first impression. The gym equipment is great and Ive never waited.
