THEY SNEAK IN EXTRA COSTS AND FEES. Tried to upgrade my car without approval. Just before paying I clarified and was assured no upgrade, same price. I compared prices later on to my booking.com quote and was still charged higher even with same car originally reserved. They put a $300 hold on my debit card at car pick-up (in addition to the full fee of the rental), telling me that travelers who actually have cash are higher risk than credit card users (really? You discriminate against those with cash?!) so we are penalized with DOUBLE the hold fee. Then at car return they charged me $15 because apparently their car data showed my car being 1 gallon less than at pickup. I have before and after pictures and there is literally no visible difference on the consumer side for me to know (and really I don’t see how the gauge could go higher). I used one of the closest gas stations around drop off so it seems a bit odd.Beware. Less than honest dealing - taking advantage of tourists/vacationers. (Axis and Budget function as one here.)Do you see a $15 difference in gas level at pick up/drop off? (See pictures)
The service was great at the airport. I walked right up to the kiosk and was taken care of. The vehicle was easy to locate in the parking lot. The price was excellent considering the state of travel and availability of rental cars right now due. Well done Avis! I will be back for sure!
My family of 12 people (including 5 kids under 5 years old) arrived in Panama City and waited in line to get the keys from the kiosk. We were told our Ford Transit was out in the lot and we would find it in row 7 but the stall number tag had fallen off the key chain and we were supposed to just use the alarm button to find our car. We all trekked out to the lot on a steamy Florida afternoon and went on a scavenger hunt with luggage, car seats and kids. Went down almost every aisle, spoke with an attendant and another driver who also could not find our car. I went back inside to speak with the person at the kiosk again but there was a line of 20 people. We were all extremely frustrated that our car was not out there as its not an easy feat to maneuver as a group with all of our luggage. After about 45 mins they finally pulled a van up for us that was extremely damaged. A huge dent on the right side and a lot of missing trim on the other side. No one was documenting this for us or seemed to care that we had concerns about being charged for this when we returned it. They said Id have to go back inside and talk to them if I wanted documentation of this damage prior to our rental. So I went back inside, waited in the long line AGAIN just to have them tell me to take a photo and that would suffice. The entire process was extremely disorganized and was not how we wouldve liked to start our vacation.
We were totally taken. First after waiting an hour and half to get up to counter. Two employees with zero hurries the manager said he sold out of the car type and size we paid for but we could have a compact for same price or pay an additional 10 a day to get next size larger. Also his exact words were if you dont like it someone else behind you with gladly take it so I would need your decision. Absolutely terrible the way I was treated
All of rental companies at this airport got very bad reviews, but enterprise but it didn’t have any cars available. We decided to go with Avis because of the price and availability.Our flight was 3 hour delayed, but the check in was very quick unlike what others said in their reviews. Upgraded to a mustang for $15/day as we just needed to get to the hotel quicker. Check out was easy, just dropped the key in the box.The line over Hertz was crazily long.4 stars because the inside of the car smelled like smoke but it was too late for us to come back in and asked for another car.
Definitely would give this place negative stars if I could. One of the tires on our premium elite SUV had belts showing through. Noticed it after about 90 miles of driving and customer service was horrible and would not help in any way (after we were on hold for hours and had been hung up on multiple times). Basically said it was our problem to deal with. This car had about 50,000 miles on it and was in desperate need of some maintenance - rips, holes, dents, dings, and the steering was horrible. My husband and sons tried to change the tire, but of course the necessary tools were not in the vehicle so we had to take it to a service station. They do not care at all about the safety of their customers. And in the end, we were overcharged for it. We cannot get anywhere with the customer service department on this either. Will never rent from AVIS again.
I booked the car through USAA and the price was great. The service was speedy and return was excellent. Car was a good module (Ford Fusion) and had fantastic amenities.
I have never had an issue and this was horrible. I use my personal insurance for the rental. Upon arriving in FL, I was informed do to wheel base that my insurance did not cover the vehicle as was a DOT vehicle. I was unable to get a hold of my insurance at time arrival and did not want hold up line. I took the insurance and then waited on a call from my insurance provider State Farm. I received a call my my insurance and told I was covered. I tried calling direct to Avis to have the insurance removed and was told that I had to do it at an Avis location. I drove to the closest one at Destin FL Airport as I was not going to drive to Panama City. I drove same day the counter said that only a manager can do this and he was not available till next day. I drove back again and he was not there then told it was the weekend that he does not work weekends. I called a direct number they gave me and reached someone at Panama City Airport that the manager was not going to be back till the Monday. I drove to Panama City Airport on Monday morning and the desk person was able to remove the insurance. THIS SHOULD BE SOMETHING able to be done over the phone. They also told me at the counter that Avis did not want to pay for direct numbers to individual locations and this is why it goes direct to the general Avis Customer service representatives. What good is customer service if they cannot help? Absolutely horrible experience where I have to lose out of vacation time trying to go to counter 3 times at 2 different locations.Update: Hello Joey, Im sorry you have been charged for insurance and werent able to get in contact with anyone. All insurances are optional and it is listed on our website. To have insurance removed only the locations can do it for legal purposes. ~JasmineApparently you did not read the review, I did go to the counter after NOT being able to remove via phone (incidentally I was told by AVIS customer service I could) . I went a total of 3 times at 2 different locations.
I tried to rent a car from the airport, but for some strange reason every car was rented on the day I was flying into ECP, so your rep set me up to pick up from the satellite office. I told your rep what time from flight got in after looking out the hours at that office noticed that it closed at 2:00pm on Sat and my flight did not get into 3:30pm. So I called you customer service line and asked if there was anyway that they might me able to take the vehicle to the airport for me to pick-up, they stated no but now there was a van there at the airport now for me to rent 1 week before I leave, but we would have to start a new contract. I was fine with that until there was a 1300.00 change in price. Are you kidding me that you was changing the price and this was not my fault. I would never recommend anyone to Avis.
The car was good and comfortable to sit in. The counter staff was excellent to work with. I think they should get a raise. The reason I marked this a 7 instead of an 10, was because the previous driver had smoked in the vehicle and every time we got in the vehicle we had to smell smoke. It was not pleasant. You can clean a car all you want, but you can never get rid of the imbedded smoke smell in the fabric seats.
There was one person working the desk for Avis. It took 45 minutes for 5 people to be served. The only reason I got out of there was by being in the preferred line. I feel awful for the people who were still in their same place in line when I left in the normal line. Absolutely unacceptable for a vacation destination where people are usually with families and looking forward to a good time. EVERY OTHER rental company had no line by the time I left and Avis had a line 20 people long. Dont blame the unemployment benefits, this was specific to you.
Getting my receipt has been a nightmare.. Had to drop my key in the drop box.. They never sent an email just charged me. Wouldn’t be a big deal but it was for a corporate trip. I cannot file my report until I talk to someone, I have been on hold for hours.. will not return
Service at counter was not great, girl acted like I was putting her out. Kept trying to put me into a more expensive car, even after I said no, kept going to back office then would come back and ask for a different car. When I returned the car I put 4 gallons of gas in drive 100 miles the car got 25 miles to a gallon, so I filled it back up and still was charged. Had two cars rented and was told I prepaid and had to call back into 800 number, when I called on they said no I was not prepaid and they could have canceled at counter. This entire experience was terrible and will not recommend
It was quick and easy. The rate was also reasonable although I didnt expect to pay so much in taxes.
Avis always makes renting a car very easy. Super easy to locate car in the lot and locate the drop off. The cars are always clean and in great condition.

The car that we received was in terrible shape and was filthy. The car sounded like it had a muffler issue and the customer service at the airport was non-existant.
I finally got to the airport delay after delay past midnight. You didnt have the car I reserved. I was given a smaller car. Kids had to have suitcases on their laps. The car was dirty. Water bottles, used napkins, used face masks ect. Definitely not COVID safe!!! The poor girl working was apologetic and said we would need to come back in the morning to get our car. So after being up all night traveling I had to wake my kids up early travel 40 one way back to the airport and switch cars. We finally got the car we reserved and it stunk like smoke. Everytime we got in it stunk soooo bad. I complained to the staff and they said that the only thing they could do because I booked through priceline was comp me some gas. After spending over a thousand dollars for a rental car I would expect a totally different experience. Thoroughly dissatisfied!!!! I will never rent from you again and will tell everyone about my horrible experience.

Josh/John? pleasantly reminded us of what customer service was like... Although they didnt have the exact vehicle we wanted, they found us a nice, comfortable car that had the same amenities for a discounted rate.I will absolutely use them again in the future.

The car ran well however it was obviously dirty, smelly and had expired tag since November 2020. Manager said he would address this issue but DIDNT. Will contact corporate.
Easiest rental Ive ever had. All the paper work was ready. Handed the keys in and out under 10 mins, that was just wait in line time.

No one walked with me to check the vehicle, the front tire was going bald and there was a plug missing from the tire. (I found this out when I went to another Avis to get a vehicle to return home). The steering shook when you pressed the brakes. When we ran into rain the anti skid light kept coming on and the traction was slipping. My family and I coul have been killed on the highway because of all these problems.
I had rented a car with Alamo and they GAVE IT AWAY! because of Covid, they wouldnt do another same day rental. I will never use them and will ALWAYS use Avis. You truly saved our vacation.
Not the car I requested. I asked for one with good gas mileage. Since they did not have one I wanted a luxury car, you did not have one. Since I was going to pay in gas I wanted to travel in comfort. not in a cheap KIA. I ordered GPS which it did not have. the worst car I have ever drove.

Quickest car rental process Ive ever had in my life. As we approached the counter, the clerk (a man) was helping a customer. He asked us if we were preferred (which we were); he checked my ID and handed us the keys and in literally 30 seconds we walked away from the counter. He continued to assist the other customer, which was not a preferred Wizard customer. He saw us, recognized us, asked if we were preferred and we were on our merry way as my car was already setup. AWESOME customer service.

The people at the airport were so nice and helpful. I reserved my car online which is so easy and I was able to go into the airport, check in at the counter and leave with my car. I highly recommend Avis over Enterprise.
The rep explained that I could return the vehicle and theyd put gas in it and just charge me the gallon rate they advertised($2.14 I believe)...never once did they explain Id be charged $10 PER GALLON!! I didnt find out until my credit card statement arrived.
The car i rented reaked with smoke the whole 7 days I had the car. The smell never dissipated.
I would have gave 0 stars waited all day for a car when I got there they wouldnt give me one I will never call them again screw them!
Panama City Airport car rental for Avis was woefully understaffed - unprepared for amount of people requiring vehicles- had to wait in line for over a hour to get keys as I had prepaid and registered online all my info- had to wait additional 15 minutes for them to bring my vehicle up from their overflow lot even though my reservation was done more than a month in advance they did not have my vehicle in the pickup lot ready to go.
I appreciate the online special through the AVIS website, which led me to choose AVIS. The rental, a Toyota Camry, needed the tires balanced as well as new windshield wiper blades; thankfully, I only experienced light rain. What I didnt like, compared to other rental companies, is that I have to walk inside to the counter to return the vehicle. Its just an inconvenience, honestly. Overall the car met my needs.

My rental at pickup reflected a different price than my online reservation. The Avis agent (Chad) was argumentive and told me to call his supervisor on Monday to deal with the problem. Terrible customer service!!

Would be nice to have potential style vehicles identified online during reservation. Jeep vs escape surely are 2 different comforts; was hoping escape, arrived Jeep available. Kinda placed in a position to upgrade.
The car that I reserved was not there and I had called two months before and she said oh your car will be here if you do arrive early. So of course they had another vehicle just cost more money. That does not keep customers happy.
Panama City airport.....1. Inspect your cars better...it took 3 cars, 2 hours to get an acceptable car on this trip. Car 1 had dead battery and would not start. Car 2 had some kind of engine noise which started at 40 mph and increased with more speed. Car 3 was a good car.2. Have transportation from terminal to car lot. The distance is several blocks. I use a walker. The distance is nearly impossible! A healthy, young man would have heat problems on a summer day.3. Be more sensitive on personnel. The woman working when we turned this car in wasnt very friendly. She told to use the local shuttle which was not visible. I suggested a van (like the one used by your competitors). She said that you have a van, but NO ONE TO DRIVE IT. It was not visible if it even exists.
The staff was friendly and willing to answer any questions. The car itself was clean and good working condition.

Very helpful and alerted me to a special they were running at the time and also told me about small business program that saved me an additional 10% on my rental. Also the only car rental place that would stay a few minutes late as my plane arrived at 11:01 and no other rental place would wait they all close at 11:00. So I would highly recommend. Great newer model, clean mid size SUV rented and it was perfect.
The value and price paid for the rental was better than other competition, but our vehicle had ants all throughout it that we had to deal with throughout the rental as well as a smell of cigarette smoke. We tried to get in contact with the local Avis we rented from but were unable to reach a couple times and had to deal with these issues for the entirety of our rental. The ants were disgusting and constantly crawling on us and our items. The smoke smell bothered my brother with asthma and was bothersome to breathe in.

Very friendly staff, computers were down when picking up my vehicle. Staff took time to find out vehicle size i am used to driving, to help pick perfect vehicle for us. One of the easiest Avis locations i have used for pick up and drop off. Shame more are not like this location .

They were very accommodating and prompt with there service. They even upgraded the car for us for free which was helpful since were traveling with children.
Make sure your car doesn’t reek of cigarettes before you leave. And if it does, be prepared to explain to the employees why that’s a bad thing.
We reserved a mustang convertible or comparable. When we arrived to get our car, the lady told me she had us in Miata or I could pay an extra $8/day to get the Mustang. When I explained that is what I rented, I was told it cost more because it had leather seats. A Miata is not comparable to a Muatang.
Though this is a very small site compared to bigger airports, they attempt to make the experience a good one with personalized service. I have had problems in the past at this location receiving sub-par cars and not within my profile, but in the last few trips, it has been very good service and much newer cars.Some of the bigger lots, the service you receive is kind of like going thru the steps and not very personalized. This is a smaller site and they tend to be more personalized and pleasant. You do have to walk outside to pick up your car, but they do make arrangements if it is raining. Too expensive for the quality of vehicle. Completely unimpressed there. Advertised as a Malibu, got a basic Kia that was out of alignment and almost killed us. Hidden charges ended up costing me 100$ more than expected.
When I rented my car, I picked the cheapest one that would hold my passengers and their luggage. When I got to the counter, the attendant, upon finding out I would be driving halfway across the country, suggested a much nicer car with leather seats and more power for an additional $5/day. Needless to say, after driving for 14 hours I was very glad he made the suggestion.
Cost too high - extra cost for navigation - the only service avis provided was to take my money and tell me where to go in a large parking lot ( Im 79 years old ) to get my car

I don’t know why they let racist people work there! I rented a car for 2 days and it was the worst car rental I had ever. The lady in front, her name is Shelby treated me in a unprofessional way, you can tell from the way she talks to you and looks at you how racist she is.First she gave me very dirty car and smaller than the one I reserved, I had to come back and change it. I tried to upload a picture of the filthy seats but couldn’t as it keeps loading. I called customer service headquarter and reported that.

It would have been a 10 but I have a consistent problem when renting from AVIS. I always fill the tank on the way back and tell the attendant I filled the tank and show them the gas bill but they always charge me a fuel charge that I have to jump through hoops to remove. That needs to be fixed.
This was the WORST customer service at a car rental I’ve ever experienced. The people (2 heavy set white boys) running this counter are rude,sarcastic bullies trying to get upgrades at any cost. My car was ready when I got there they just wanted to force me into an upgrade and were willing to make me wait to do it...AVIS IF YOU READ THIS GET A NEW TEAM HERE OR YOUR BUSINESS WILL SUFFER.Booked car for 10:00 am. I showed up to get my vehicle at 10:00 and the attendent asked me if I wanted to upgrade? I said no thank you I booked an economy due to my budget. He said well it’s a vw big and it will be an hour.... needed to be cleaned he said... I responded that I booked for 10:00 and I really need a car, he said the policy doesn’t require that they provide cars at the time you book them for lol so after asking for a manager who was another rude twin of the first guy I had to wait nearly an hour after my reserved time. While waiting Expedia tried calling the branch 3 times to resolve the issue and the staff just let the phone ring. 2 men and a blonde woman stood there as the phone rang and rang and rang.....After waiting for over 35 minutes they signaled me back to the counter and said my car was ready. The car is now a Kia Soul not a vW bug? When I went outside to get it there were at least 6 Kia souls and smaller cars available.
Nothing but problems. You would think being Avis preferred for the last three years would get you treated with a little respect but not here.
My experience was awesome, the line moved quick and I got out of the airport with my rental pretty quick. The day i dropped off my rental it was so easy to drop off, just park the car where you first got it, and drop the keys off at the drop off (after hours).
The car that my fiancé and I received is disgusting & dirty. I really hate to leave bad reviews but I felt that this was necessary for change. The inside of the car is so dirty to the point where there are ANTS crawling all over us in here. It looks as though there was no attempt to vacuum the car at all. We are driving straight towards the closest AVIS in our direction of travel to swap out the car that we received at the ECP airport. I hope this review sparks some change and accountability at that location because this level of uncleanliness is unacceptable.
