33 years ago this was the first place I visited in Orlando for a hair cut. It was on a different location and with a different owner. I moved out of the area for many years and just a few years ago I when back and meet Barbara. Men, she is good. She listens and is very consistent. You get a good old hair cut for a great price and no complications. I think there is military discount if Im not mistaken and many military guys and some gals get their hair cut there. Fast and clean. Live is great.

I’ve been going to get my hair cut at Yates since I was 8 years old. I knew the original building on Goldenrod. I can honestly say since 1988, those wonderful people are like family. Tommy, Joe, Barbara, and Cookie have cut my hair, my younger brothers, and my mothers. From flat tops, to fades, to styling my moms hair, I’ve never had any complaints. Tommy is amazing with a straight razor. Stop in and check them out!!

Excellent Barber shop. I dont go anywhere else. Ive been getting my ears lowered here for 54 years! Yes, you read that right! It used to be up on Goldenrod Rd. and moved to east 50 years ago. Go get your hair cut like you live in Mayberry and be happy. Say hey to Cookie and Tommy!

Best place for flat top that Ive found since my previous barber retired (he was much closer). Staff is very pleasant. Old school barber, nothing fancy, you arent paying for decor or fancy useless stuff. Be warned, not all barbers can do flat tops if thats what you are looking for, but most times someone will be there who will accommodate for flat top. More than reasonable prices for service.

You know how when you get to a new town you keep trying barbershops till you find that perfect one you stick with. This ones mine here. Barber very skilled and comfortable with his skill. Homely decorated place, very nice and kind customer service, and great price.And as other reviewers mentioned, real professional methods of cutting, and attention to small details of comfort other barbers dont bother with usually.

I initially found this establishment in the corner of my eye while driving down Colonial, as the electricity was out at my regular barber. The atmosphere in there was very hometown-esque and reminded me of my childhood. Staff is friendly and courteous. This place is perfect if you are looking for a basic haircut, however, do not expect any form of quality here if you need your hair styled (especially for modern hair styles). The haircut was rushed, and the lines/edges were flawed. I had to fix them myself at home. They (who I assume was Tommy) used CLIPPERS for the edge, no sign of a blade anywhere. My beard line was totally messed up as well. As for service, you have to point out every little detail to them, as they dont ask for things (ie if you want rounded or square edges, hair gel, etc) like other barbers do. One other thing that I noticed, they dont use hairdryers/blowers. Like I said, this barber shop is absolutely perfect for quick trims and basic cuts, but do not expect any decent quality cuts for styled hair.

Great haircut, great price, and a great Barber in Mr. Upton. I called at the last minute for an appointment close to the closing time, Mr. Upton stated to come on in, I will wait for you. I arrived a few minutes after the normal closing time so I thought for certain they would be closed, WRONG. Mr. Upton was patiently waiting for me, he didnt rush me out the door and he even had a Regular waiting after me to get his haircut.After such great service, and an even better haircut, I have found my last Barber Shop. Tommy Upton is the man! Ive been going here for about two years and have had pretty reliable service no matter who I sit with. I can vouch for Tommy and Cookie in particular- theyve both done a good job keeping my head presentable. As of Sept 2011 its ten bucks (plus tip, you cheapskate!) for a regular cut, which Id say is a fair price for a real barber and not some salon bimbo.

Hidden gem of a barber shop. A true barber shop by true barbers. Not one of the current trendy places that can do any cut you want as long as its a fade. These folks are masters of their craft. Mens cut? Check. Fade? Check. Style cut? Check, Military cut? Sure? Which version of military would you like? High and tight? Flat top? Regulation? Female cut? Check, check, check, check.

Fantastic cut. I called in and Tom stayed after closing to get me in. The cut was clean, precise and the conversation was good. I’ll be going back

Best barber shop Ive been to in Florida. if you are or were in the military or any form of uniformed services that require you to have a clean cut. i.e. off the ears, neck, etc... this is your place! and if its a once a week obligation your in luck these cuts are at great prices. ask for Mr. Upton or cookie and you will not be disappointed.

Went to get a haircut at 8:30 AM seeing I had a Morning meeting at work I took a lyft to this location. I walk in to a lady putting on makeup who proceeds to tell me.”you have to wait for the owner” why advertise you open at 8 AM if your not.

For the past 16 years Ive been going to this establishment with great haircuts, excellent service and unforgettable kindness from the staff. I have gone to other shops in the Orlando area but I always come back to this one. This shop will always be number 1 in my book.

Tommy’s been cutting my and my grandsons hair for a very long time. I drive 30 mins to get to him and his hair cuts are always worth it. Try a shave too if you have a chance. Tommy is a master barber.

The only plus about Yates is the cheap price. I dont know if it was an off day or whatever, but Barbara cut my hair and she did not do a good job at all. The front bang area of my hair was uneven, I did not notice it until I left the shop so I had to come back and get that fixed. AND on top of that she didnt offer the mirror to see the back of my head, and I just forgot to ask for one, so thats partly my fault. The back side of my head was completely uneven, spots everywhere. She finished my hair in around 10 minutes, when every other barber shop I go to, they take 20-30 minutes. And I would never have known, except my friends told me shortly after. Will not be coming here again. Id rather pay a little extra and get quality. You pay for what you get I guess.

Read the reviews and decided to give them a shot. Absolutely love my haircut! Barbara worked on my hair and not only was she very friendly but also very efficient. I have curly hair and lots of stylists have a hard time working on it. Been in Orlando for almost a year and others have messed up my hair every single time. I would definitely go there again.

The worst haircut experience I ever had in my entire life. Not only did the guy mess my hair up, when I asked if he could fix it, he said it looks fine to me. What a joke. Rather than have him mess it up even more, I just paid and left. Yeah the price is cheap, but at the cost of having your hair ruined... I think not. Going somewhere else to get it fixed tomorrow.

Tommy is an amazing man. Another barber shop had ruined my hair. I called Yates since it was close by and hoped they could fix it. Tommy answered the phone and told me to come right over. He was able to fix the bad haircut perfectly as if it never happened. On top of that he was sweet enough not to charge me. This immediately became my official barber in Orlando!
