I came here at the recommendation of a friend for my first brow shaping and I absolutely loved it! The salon itself is a spacious building with tons of attitude, and the employees inside were super kind and welcoming. My stylist helped me with the shaping (as I had no idea what I wanted) and did so very gently and professionally. She was super pleasant and the experience went great! Velvet Monkey Salon will definitely be first on the list whenever I need a salon from now on :)

My 7 year old grandson loved getting his hair cut here. The lady who cut his hair made him feel very comfortable, held a conversation with him the entire time. Very friendly and professional and relaxed atmosphere.

I booked with Tim for a highlight and cut. I haven’t had my hair highlighted or colored in many years but Tim listened to what I wanted and made it happen! Styled it and everything for a really decent price! Definitely will be coming back!

This location is so much like the old Velvet Monkey on 23rd! The staff is awesome and helpful. They are taking the whole covid thing serious with proper precautions and still taking care of business! Kayla was my stylist and she rocked it! I wasnt really sure on what I wanted but with consultation she helped me decide! Will definitely be back!

Well..I got a younger girl to just wash and curl my hair I told her small curls it is very short. She made BIG old lady curls all over and shen she spun me around I told her right away I look like an old lady I need tighter curls she did some in the back and asked how I liked I told her it was fine paid and left but will NOT let her do my hair again.

Elle did I nice job on my cut and colour. The atmosphere was stimulating and everyone that works there seems in tune with their clients needs.

The Velvet Monkey in the Plaza is one of the best salons in town! I have been going there for years now and I am always happy with the results. 😊 Tristan is my person so of course I recommend her! But theyre all great and have you covered from cuts, to color, extensions and more! The quality is totally worth the price.

This place is amazing! Love love love! I have had some bad experiences at salons because of my hair type. I’ve been seeing Jessica since the first time she cut my hair in 2019. I adore her attention to detail. She really cares a lot about your hair as an expression of yourself. Everyone at The Velvet Monkey is super nice and make you feel at home. I have never felt good about my hair being that it’s very fine and often lays funny because of my crazy growth patterns😂. Every time I see Jess I leave feeling like a million bucks!! I went to my 1st appointment today and was given Catie (or Katie if spelt wrong on text confirmation). My hair was a mess ON TOP ONLY after cutting it myself and needed help). I explained that I did want to grow my hair out in the beginning I just wasnt sure what style.She HACKED my hair shorter then it has EVER been and I just wanted to cry!!! Its also extremely uneven. Never will I go back there. I cried as I left just disgusted! Its MUCH worse then it was before going there! Its just depressing!

Absolutely love going here, took a little while to find the stylist right for me and my needs, but overall a great place for any haircuts/styling/waxing. Some stylists are better than others, but they just might not have been a right fit for me!

Ive been going to visit Catie at Velvet Monkey for several years now and Ive never been disappointed with the results. The salon is always clean has a fantastic accepting vibe. Ive gotten just hair cuts, balayage, and colors numerous times. The stylist Ive gotten(even if it wasnt Catie) has always taken time to understand what I was think and give opinions on what would look best with my face shape, etc. Love this place! Cant recommend it enough!

This place is so awesome! Totally laid back atmosphere while still being professional. I loved the vibe here. Tristan is AMAZING and very patient. I know nothing about my hair or what it can handle, and she was very detailed when she explained what we would be doing to give me the look that I wanted. My hair looks amazing, still feels healthy, and I found a great place to be a regular at. I will be recommending this place to anyone and everyone who asks. 10/10 quality service.

I had an amazing first visit to the salon today! I have a short bobbed haircut and I have struggled to find someone who can cut the back of my hair right. I have a cowlick in the back as well which makes it a tougher job as well. I was taken care of by Nikki today and I could not be any happier! She is the first person in years who has been able to give me a perfectly even cut that looks amazing! She did an excellent job of blending the layers into the bob and shaping the hair on my neck. Ladies, if you have a short style and are struggling to find someone who will get it right, I highly recommend that you go see Nikki!

I just had an appointment with Kayla O’Donnell and she did so awesome! I went from long blonde to short ashy grey/purple. She took the time to make sure I got exactly what I wanted even with some annoying restrictions I had because of my job. She is super nice and really good at her job. Her and another Kayla at the salon made my experience so great I’ll definitely be coming back!

I would give it a zero if possible. Nah, make that minus 5 stars. At least. What kinda hairdresser takes off and goes to a lil bodega and who knows what else for 2 hours while the customer waits? And the other hairdressers actually lie for the one who went AWOL b/c she later lies to customers for the other hairdressers. They lie for each other. Velvet Monkey Salon is the only one in Oklahoma City thats even worse than Revel 8 Salon. Expensive, inexperienced, inconsiderate, obnoxious, & unprofessional hairdresser who is very slow & proven incapable of touching up roots (once she ever finally begins, that is). The best hair care in Oklahoma City is provided by the Academy of Hair Design beauty school! Theyre impressive!!!

I do not recommend stylist Jessica C.- The minute I sat down and told her I wanted a half head/highlights she was a bit pushy about persuading me with what SHE thought I should do. Once we started with what I original wanted she rushed through it and gave me a very unflattering orange toner. The highlights are chunky and don’t even remotely reach my scalp.

Need a beard trim? Ask for Sara.. Consistently does a amazing job. Thanks Sara!

Definitely a cool atmosphere, I had Nikki and she was very accommodating of my somewhat odd requests, hair turned out great my wife loved the cut ( hard to find ppl that can pull off a masculine mens long haircut at least from my experience.) Called in to find a new stylist. Reception was unable to give me any indication as to the political leanings of any of the stylists. Im going to be spending a lot of time with this person, and then handing them a large sum of money once the job is complete. I dont want to listen to any nonsense. I did not think this would be an issue at this salon, but whatever. 5 stars because I dont want to hurt the business; hopefully this feedback will be well received.

I have been to a lot of salons and this place is definitely my favorite. I got my hair styled my Cara. It seriously was the best hair experience of my life. She was completely gung-ho for my ideas and was actually excited to do my hair. She actually cared and that was amazing. She completely understood what I wanted and executed better than I could ever imagine. Wonderful experience. Definitely come here! Everyone is warm and inviting and the building itself is awesome. Im going to stay with them for a while.

Ive had some good haircuts here, and some bad ones. Ive gone three times, and each time the service has been getting a little less than what I expect.At first, Alex did a great job on my hair--she knew just what to do with my super-straight, thick hair and didnt leave it too long or uneven in spots. She was good with the scissors and had a great razoring technique, she was able to thin my hair a little and NOT make me look like a mushroom.The next two times, I couldnt even remember the stylists names... these were not memorable cuts, and not for the prices I paid. On my second visit, the girl didnt even bother to wash my hair, and just tried to cut it with heavy gel all over my head. Ive never had that done at a salon, and I expect a little more for what I paid. I had hair clippings stuck to me for weeks, and my hair just didnt look right--it wasnt trimmed properly in places that had been combed down. After the first washing I started planning my next trip to another salon.Overall the Velvet Monkey is not a bad shop--it just depends on whether you like your stylist and agree with his/her method--like ANY salon. I liked Alex, I wasnt so fond of the others.I might go back, or I might try somewhere else. You wont come away with a bad haircut from this salon, but it might not be what youre expecting. I recommend calling or texting the individual stylist you plan to see and talking about the haircut you want, that way you know what youre getting into.

The Salon itself is great, the atmosphere is really nice. My stylist was super nice. She did a great job on my cut. But the reason I am giving 3 stars is my color, she wanted to cover my grays (I do not have many) and I said I would prefer not to. But she did anyways, and the color is super orange. I tried to make myself think I would adjust to it, but everytime I do my hair I end up just putting it up. I hate to sound dramatic, but my hair makes me super sad. Cant wait to get my hair fixed.

Don’t go here if you’re a guy with long hair. The stylist seemed inexperienced and gave me some kind of long in the front, short in the back Karen hair cut. She butched it way too short for twice as much as I usually pay.

Catie did my hair a while ago and while I loved the cut and the way she styled it she really over processed my hair. It’s been breaking of in chunks since our appointment. Do not let this woman anywhere near you with bleach.

First time going to this salon and I left hurt, disappointed and belittled in the way I was treated. I dont color my hair often and it had been about 6 months since I last touched it. The hairdresser was trying to figure out why I had such dry, brittle hair even though I havent colored it recently and dont do it often. She kept prying to figure out what was going on so I told her I have Lupus. One of the many symptoms of Lupus is dry, brittle hair. She told me that she wouldnt be able to color my hair the way I wanted without it breaking off in the next month. Which I appreciate her telling me because my hair already in bad shape as it is. I definitely dont want to make it any worse. She seemed to understand my struggle at first, but continually used her bossy voice (her words, not mine), saying over and over that I need to use different shampoo and whatnot. Which I understand. Cheap shampoo wont get you high quality results. But I felt belittled when she spoke about my hair and everything Im doing wrong with it, when its mostly due to the fact that I have an autoimmune disease and cant control every single symptom.She also goes on about another client who has RA and we were just making conversation and I asked if the womans hands are starting to deform. I asked this because along with Lupus, I too have RA and deformed hands is a worry of mine. She told me that shes noticed her hands change but that she doesnt believe her client realizes it and went on to say that she doesnt know if she should bring inform the lady or not.What?! Why on earth would you even consider telling someone that? Im sure the lady knows that her fingers are becoming crooked and its no ones place to point that out to her.To summarize, I know she had good intentions of warning me about my hair. But I also didnt want to spend over $200 and 5 hours in a chair to be ridiculed and belittled.

After getting a really bad haircut at another place I decided that it wasnt worth saving a few bucks if I looked like I had been in an accident so I decided to try Velvet Monkey. I am so incredibly glad I did. I scheduled through their online system for the same day and when I went in there was no wait, I went straight back to the chair.My stylist, Catie, was very involved in asking what I wanted done with my hair and listened closely to what I had to say. She had several suggestions and I went with her ideas. She gave me the first good haircut that Ive had in years. Its the first time I havent walked out of a hair place in a long time thinking, Its OK. Itll grow out I guess. I scheduled a return appointment on the spot and Im looking forward to being a regular here.

Sophie cut my hair yesterday. Nuthin too complex--just trimming/thinning my combo curly/straight hair. After rocking my svelte mane for a day, I can report that it looks great! Love this place so chill and great cuts. Yeah it cost more than Supercuts, but you get what you pay for and Im glad to pay extra for it and to support a local business. Jessica is my go-to stylist here, she is great at her art and super friendly, but I would trust anyone that works here; their standards are high. First time coming to this place and Ive been looking for a great stylish so I tried velvet monkey, and my stylish is Kyle. He did a fabulous job he exactly knows what I wanted for my hair and im Asian so I have a thick long black hair so yes a lots of work. But Im glad I came to this place and definitely going back. And the place is very eclectic love it.

I spoke with a friend of mine and she was able to lighten my hair doubly as light and was able to do the color job I wanted in two hours. My stylist wanted several appts. During the first two appointments with my stylists at Velvet Monkey, my hair was the same color and I was out $280 in total. My friend did it all for just over $100

Mandi is great! She always takes the time to talk through a clients plan for their haircut before doing anything rash. The clients happiness is her number one priority and it shows!

I absolutely love The Velvet Monkey. I came in to this salon after my hair colorist of 7 years, tragically quit listening to me. Im so glad I made the decision to choose The Velvet Monkey and my hair colorist Taylor Sparks is Awesome! From my first meeting with her, she explained the process of how to reverese the color I had and she took her time, listened to every word I said and included me in everything to make sure I understood and was accepting of my color. Taylor is remarkable and I would recommend her to anyone who wants beautiful hair color and excellent service. Thank You Taylor for your patience and your phenomenonal service!

HORRIBLE first experience in going there. I paid $130 to have my hair ruined and over processed. The lady who was doing my hair kept on pausing to text on her phone and while I was getting my hair dyed she ran to Braums and left the dye in an extra 15 min! What made it so unprofessional is that her and the other stylist next to her were having some highly inappropriate conversations that I would have preferred not to hear! The inside is nice but it definitely lacks professionalism.

I go to the one in the Plaza district and i absolutely love it! Ana styles my hair and i couldnt be happier with my cut! She is great at taking instruction and is very versatile when it comes to different cuts/styles.

I wanted a bright red and I left with a darker red than I had expected. They are overpriced. I have seen them do really good colors on others on the website but was dissapointed with mine. Maybe it was just the color I requested but I was a little disappopinted because of all the excellent reviews that I had read I was really expecting to have the color I wanted. The place is nice and the staff is friendly. Just make sure you get the correct stylist.

Be careful, some people cant cut black hair here. My GF got a terrible shape up for $30.

My girlfriend turned me on to Joan Brinkworth and I think she must be the best hair stylist Ive ever had. She is very knowledgeable about trendy cuts and I always get my fill of political conversation (although she could probably stand less talk about Republicans). I highly recommend Joan at the Velvet Monkey on 16th.

I had graying Black hair & Cara blended a mixture that took away the top Grey and left a hint of it in my sideburns, so the attn. to Color it wasnt SO Obvious....Many people have asked me, if i have lost weight, or what I changed...did I shave the mustache and that is the ultimate compliment...Cara...every 21 to 27 days !

I LOVE my hair!!! I had tailbonelength hair and I saw Jessica (I had rachael before and also loved her) It had been a year since I had my last haircut and I have really back salon anxiety but Jessica is really knowledgeable about what looks good with different hair types. She did just what I wanted and we talked it through before starting. I love the layers she gave me!! The only negative thing was she tends to be really rough when brushing and styling which isnt a problem if you have short hair but if you have long hair, those little hairs that snag hurt really really bad!!!! So yeah heads up if you have long hair just ask them to be gentle :)
