A wonderful gym with not only well informed trainers but a friendly and honest environment welcoming of all ages. After being someone who has bounced around from gym to gym for awhile I honestly can’t see myself training anywhere else!

If you want a coach and a great fight team that will take you far whether you want to fight and be a world champion, or just looking to get fit and find a great hobby to stay healthy and in shape, you can’t go wrong with MMA bravo Zulu.Coach Nick is a true professional, a wealth of knowledge when it comes to combat sports, especially with his experience in the striking field. The gym is clean and pristine, no issues with the equipment, gear, or hygiene. I haven’t had any issues regarding drama or attitude with any of the staff or the students of this academy, which clearly reflects on the instructors character and leadership skills, something which is unfortunately quite common when it comes to most MMA gyms, particularly the “famous” local ones that are just looking to market themselves. Coach Nick is always very friendly and personable and so are his instructors. you shouldn’t ever have any anxiety if you need questions or help with anything particular they will gladly give you the attention you need to improvise yourself. My personal experience, I’ve learned far more than I ever could with Muay Thai and striking in any other gym in the Bay Area. All bad habits were worked on, and Coach Nick was always motivating and inspiring, you will feel determined to come back and train harder and harder the more you work with him. I’ve managed to lose close to 30 lbs in the 8 weeks I’ve worked with this gym, which clearly shows his conditioning program is also 100% world class.I could not recommend this gym anymore, if you want to test yourself and change your path in life, make good friends, and learn some useful skills? The answer is MMA bravo Zulu

Nick really takes pride in his gym and his members. The mats and equipment are really nice to train on/with. The other members are all really cool and humble. I felt welcomed since the first day I started. Really great community!Ive been training jiu jitsu for a few years and I really like how technical the coaching is. They really focus on fundamentals which is lacked at some other gyms. The members in the advanced class focus on slow, technical rolls which keeps the injuries down. Very enjoyable!Im new to Muay Thai and really love these classes! Nick doesnt have us spar for the first 6 months which allows me to get comfortable with the techniques. We get really great workouts in in each class too!

Deciding to have Coach Nick as a personal trainer is hands down the smartest decision Ive ever made in regards to my physical health. Not an exaggeration by any means. Ive always struggled with trying to get back into shape, but this man, he will push you to be better. Whether its kettle bell swings, boxing, Muay Thai, Russian Twists, even the good old squat, he takes the time make sure you understand what youre doing. The posture, the position of your feet, the way you have to hold your hands up. He walks you through every step, demonstrates, and motivates. He is truly phenomenal. And I am so grateful for him that I finally have the motivation to be healthier. If youre trying to get back into it, go to Coach Nick. You will not regret it.

Bravo Zulu is an excellent gym with fantastic instruction, training space, and training partners. You get world class hands on jiu-jitsu training and practice from black belt instructor Alex Yocum, and while Im not a striker, Im always impressed by what I see going on in the striking and fitness classes. The gym is well set up and clean. A great and comfortable place to train. Highly recommended!

I love Muay Thai class! David, Gary and Nick are fantastic trainers. I came in off the street with no martial arts backgrounds whatsoever, wondering if I could keep up, and they took me on, no problem. Classes are tough, but not more than you can handle, and all of the trainers care about you and your progress. Go to every class you can make and get your moneys worth!

Nick is such a great trainer. I had fun while doing the workouts. Nick is more than a trainer, hes really there to accommodate to everyones needs. I personally found a connection with him by both being pro military. I hadnt trained in a long time due to injuries, but training at Bravo Zulu gave me that great workout while not forcing my injured knee.

This spot is the best MMA training gym youll find in the Bay Area! if you want to learn some new skills - while also getting in shape - while also upping your self defense game - while also getting your stress out - while also channeling your inner Tony Jaa - while also being around a cool group of people who will encourage you and make you laugh - join already. Nick and his team of trainers are professional, skilled, and encouraging people who will help bring out the best in your ability. Some highlights that it is/has:- Beginner-friendly- Great instruction that balanced good exercise with good technique- An environment that is empowering to women, and/or had womens classes- Affordable prices/membership (Bay Area living, right?)- Instruction that focuses on helping you progress and become a better fighter (not just sweat it out for bikini season or some last ditch effort to try to finally get that six pack)- Awesome trainers that know how to push you and also help you nail down the details of the martial art- A diverse crowd that isnt overrun by jocks or meatheadsTheir classes cover everything - fundamentals, striking, womens classes, jiu jitsu, sparring, HIIT classes, all of it. If it wasnt for needing to make a living, Id be at every single one of them.

Great kids program! My 2 kids, age 10 and age 6, have learned so much over the past 6 months! Theyre training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, and Kickboxing! Nick, Alex and Gary give great instruction, make it fun, and provide a good amount of discipline and challenge at the same time. Definitely worth checking out if you want your kids to learn self-defense and self-confidence!

So happy this place is in the neighborhood! No excuses, when the gym is 5 minutes away. Other than the location being super convenient, the gym is beautiful. All new equipment (pads, bags) and the mats are clean and super bouncy.Nick, the owner, is a down to earth guy and really wants to build a sense of community in what sometimes feels like an over saturation of MMA gyms in the Bay Area. Other than being super knowledgeable in wrestling and jiu jitsu, Nick is just the kind of guy I would want to hang out with! Trust me, it helps to get beat up by someone you actually like. His strike fit class is so torturous, but like, in the best way possible. It hurts so good!I have dabbled in jiu jitsu here and there but Ive really enjoyed the classes with Alex. Jiu jitsu is a ton of technique that can get pretty overwhelming when first learning, but Alex is articulate and encouraging.David is one of the Muay Thai trainers and I really dig what he does. He really focuses on technique and the basics. Listen, we all want to be badass mofos doing spinning back kicks and superman punches, but you got to learn the basics first. David does a great job of focusing on certain themes in each session (footwork, head movement) for beginners and intermediates alike. All in all, this is an awesome gym and Im glad its in my hood!

So, so, so, so thrilled to have found this place. Ive been looking for somewhere I can do some kickin and punchin on the regular. This is it. Im not new to martial arts, did TKD for a long time and some boxing, but have been interested in Muay Thai for a while. The instructors here are awesome and the sense of community is an added bonus. Theres no ego and so much to learn - many MMA styles to choose from. Ive also been doing private training with Nick and its been both fun and challenging. This is no cardio kickboxing joint, youre training to fight here. Youll undoubtedly be in better shape as a by product of your training, but the end game is learning skills/strategies and conditioning for sparring.

MMA BRAVO ZULU is an AMAZING gym in the Dimond District of Oakland. The gym was clean and professional. The instructors as well as the students were all nice and welcoming. I took the Muay Thai kickboxing class and worked with Nick because Im just beginning. He was a great help and really pushes you to keep going and not give up. If you want a really good work out that leaves you sweating like a beast I would definitely check them out!

I walked in to my first class without any previous grappling experience and my instructors and training partners have made me feel welcome from Day 1. The Show-Then-Do type of instruction is great and has allowed me to grasp the fundamentals of jiu-jitsu relatively quickly. Every day I come to practice my instructors teach me something new and refine something I’ve already learned. I have a long way to go in this martial art but with their expertise and my persistence, I can see this becoming a passion of mine.Im loving jiu-jitsu thanks to the everyone here.Good rolls and good vibes all around. Give it a shot.

This non-traditional dojo is a breath of fresh air. The teachers are encouraging and positive with the kids, rather than punitive and demanding (like our previous experience--five-year-olds do not need to be bossed around and get barked at for not bowing or saying Sir). Instead, Bravo Zulu encourages teamwork and gives structure to its physically demanding yet methodical work. My 6-1/2-year-old son has been attending JiuJitsu classes three days a week, traditional wresting one day a week, and Muay Thai (kickboxing) one day a week for several months now (each days class takes 45 minutes and is incredibly affordable). Not only has he become more focused and built strength and stamina, he has shown pride in learning and mastering skills that previously had seemed difficult to him. Ive seen his self-confidence soar and his physical strength increase over these many months, and his pride in earning strips on his belt is immeasurable. I cannot say enough about how great and easygoing the staff is. Soon there will be inter-dojo competitions, and we cant wait!

Fantastic gym right in the neighborhood! Ive been training there for nearly 6 months now and I have only positive things to say. Nick the owner is very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and has created a legit fighting gym with trainers that know their stuff. Everyone at the gym is very friendly and great at training you at your own specific pace. The gym itself is based on three main classes: ji-jitsu, muay thai kickboxing, and strike fit. The ji-jitsu class is taught by a legit trainer with over 10 years experience. There are two awesome trainers for the muay thai class, David teaches the more introduction class and Gary slighty more advanced but either one would be fine for most people. The strike fit class is a sweat your brains out boot camp type class and that is taught by the owner.I cant recommend this gym enough. If youre looking to learn how to fight or just to get in better shape, and want to do it in a friendly no judgement space, come give it a shot.
