I randomly got a text message asking me to do a survey. I don’t know how EMC Research got my contact info because I didn’t ask for them to contact me. I don’t appreciate them messaging me without consent and my privacy feels violated.

Their requests for participation in surveys are void of any info that would inform the reader as to the authenticity of the company or the integrity of the survey info. Comes across as though it is junk mail.

Just took a survey which was laughably bad and clearly intended for some candidates spin. The first question asked if I thought the city was going generally in the right direction, seriously off the rails (or something equally dire sounding) and prefer not to comment. I chose the third simply because I think the framing was so intentionally dishonest.

I was contacted by EMC Research via email - with an explanation for why (“registered to vote in Emeryville”), and the issue being assessed was made clear (parcel tax for schools in Emeryville). I’d never been contacted by them before nor had contact with them previously. Always creepy to figure that our email addresses are circulating beyond our knowledge - but, I guess that is the way of the world. I felt that the questions I was asked allowed me to respond in either a pro or con manner without bias in the questions. I sure hope my data is put to some positive use. The issues one has with suddenly being asked to submit a survey are 1) why me, 2) how did you get my info, 3) who are you, 4) what are you going to do with my answers, and 5) who contracted you to get my answers. So, I looked up EMC Research before answering - just check out their client list - obviously straight-up folks, and decided to answer. Glad I did.

EMC Research is sending out highly questionable emails and doing political research in the Northern California region, without stating who is hiring them for this work. In this day and age this is wholly unacceptable to not identify who the research is being done on behalf of, or even stating HOW my private information (name and email) was provided to this company.

This company purchases email addresses from voter registration records. Now to contact my voter registrar and tell them what I think of that business practice.

This organization sends out pollling requests with NO significant explination of purpose, sponsor or how a participants opinions/data will be used. While technology has made polling easier and cheaper, the best pollsters provide transparency into their work including a responsible explination to those they solicit including how the data will be analyized and leveraged.
