Let me just start by saying that I never thought I’d be seeing a sex therapist. The stigma that surrounds sex therapy is real. I had no idea what I was walking into. I knew something had to happen or my marriage would not survive. Sex wasn’t fun, we felt like it was a chore. We had been married around 20 years and I am in my 40’s and my sex drive was going crazy. I needed an outlet and felt I couldn’t have that with my husband. I thought we weren’t compatible anymore. I was so wrong.My marriage is amazing now because of Dr. Anya. Dr. Anya makes “seeing a sex therapist” something that is not intimidating or stressful. She is well versed in respecting a person or couple’s beliefs and boundaries. She takes a very thorough history and LEARNS you and LEARNS your relationship. Then she starts in on the things that you need help with. I was frustrated by the therapist provided by my insurance company. She didn’t give me tools or knowledge to use to work on my relationship with my husband. Anya has a whole box of tools (literally and figuratively). She gave us homework, she pinpointed what was missing in our relationship. The deficiencies in our sex life turned out to be a symptom of flawed communication. Anya is a masterful coach and speaker. She had led a workshop where my partner and I had the privilege to attended.She coached our small group in some communication exercises regarding intimacy and creating safe spaces for communication and touch.I felt like I was able to learn from Anya that evening and saw places where I could create more space for intimacy.My partner and I also spoke to her in private sessions a few times again and each time she brought a lot of knowledge and compassion to the table along with tremendous insight.She inspires and conspires to move things where they want to go. Dr. Anya is the real deal and I cannot recommend her more highly.
