Staff was nice, the food was good. Not all staff at indoor event had masks, not sure if they are supposed to or not. Banquet hall was clean. Overall, happy with place.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I just had my wife’s baby shower there and it was the worst experience ever. The waiters and bartender were excellent. The food was okay. I just don’t understand how I paid per plate and some of my guest arrived late and I was told there was no food left for them. Also, the open bar which I paid extra for had half empty bottles at the start of the party and when those bottle were done, it was done. The manager Brianne was very unprofessional throughout this whole experience. When we booked this place we mentioned that we would be having a DJ present which wasn’t an issue. During the party Brianne came storming in demanding the DJ to lower the music or else he had to go. At that point everyone saw the show that took place and couldn’t believe it, ruining the atmosphere.Then 10 mins left until the end of the party and Brianne rushed the dj to pack up and leave. I think Brianne could’ve handles the entire situation differently and approached us with respect. Lastly, there were two areas in the ceiling of our room that were leaking on the tables, guests and food. Not only that but the AC wasn’t working on a hot summer day. The aesthetics of the room were horrible, part of the ceiling was missing and some had mold where the leaks were coming from, the dance floor had cracks and the restroom sink was clogged. At minimum the room could’ve used a good paint job. I could’ve overlooked bad food and the look of the room but not the level of disrespect that was given to my guest, vendors and myself. I spent a lot of money and time preparing for this day for it to be a disaster. This is our first baby shower and and we could never get this day back. Please see actual pictures of the ceiling in the room.Stay away from this place.You won’t regret it.Brianne needs to be fired for the way she treats paying customers.

First of all, the pictures shown to us are false advertisements. On July 3rd my wife and I had our baby shower at Portobello Banquet hall in Oakland, NJ. First off, we absolutely DO NOT recommend this venue. Our experience was horrible. Before our guests arrived, our event planner found holes in many of the table cloths. The service was terrible, starting off with the servers, all but one seemed as if they didnt want to be there. Our guests were asked what they wanted to eat without a menu to decide from, and when guests would ask the waitresses what was available many received rolling of the eyes and an attitude as the menu was explained. We paid for unlimited mimosas, but never got a refill. It is terrible when you dont even get water or sodas served for the guests. For the amount of money that we paid for Portobellos service, you would think that we would at least have great service. My wife, myself and our guests all felt that we were treated poorly. In one instance, My wife asked if we could get 3 more plates of food for our guest that arrived later, the answer was a flat out no. My wife has worked in the restaurant business for 13 years and you never say NO to your guests. It is customary to at least offer at least a to-go plate, but that wasnt even offered. During the time when desserts were offered guests got their coffees way after they had finished the desserts. At the end of the event, one of the managers, a woman wearing a burgundy blouse sporting short hair, started to rush us out as she spoke to us in a very disrespectful way. She also expected us to break down decorations that had been left behind in our event without our knowledge. Overall the service was substandard, unprofessional, and quite frankly disrespectful because we paid a lot of money for services to be rendered, instead we were treated as if the services were given to us for free. There are many other places where you can go, do yourself a favor and avoid Portobello Banquet hall.

Staff was friendly, Nice to our kids, and attentive. Plenty of space for kids to run around and the adults to dance and chat.

I highly recommend Portobello Banquet Hall. The food is delicious, the staff is excellent, and the hall itself is attractive. Definitely worth every penny for the food and service that you receive. They offer an excellent variety of foods and services to choose from no matter what your budget is. Portobellos menu was outstanding, I had a lot of fun going through and choosing the different foods and desserts. Also, I was pretty impressed with the different options they have available for linens, napkins, etc. (most venues only have 1-3 color choices). Definitely an excellent venue to work with! And finally, I have to put a word in for Anthony. He was absolutely fantastic to work with. Very informative, professional, attentive, and reliable. He answered all my questions and took very good care of us during the entire process. Couldnt have asked for a better person to work with.Overall I am extremely happy with Portobellos and would recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone.

All this money my nephew paid for his wife baby shower and they literally complaint about our Spanish music to lower it, with attitude too! And on top of that my elderly parents got here late, we asked Karen Manager if they could get a plate of food since there was alot of food left over, she refused!

We had our wedding at Portobello Banquets in November and what a a amazing day. We had both the ceremony and reception here. Vincent, Anthony and Brianna were very accommodating and helpful with our day. The food was amazing and people still talk about it to this day. Venue pricing was fair for such a wonderful place, very budget friendly.

I have been coming here for years through company functions. Today we tried their Thanksgiving dinner. We were seated on the second floor. All of the food was cold, slow to replace, the “Turkey carving station” was a small plate of turkey under a heat lamp. At some point roast beef was dumped into the turkey tray and divided down the middle. I’m not sure what was happening with that. Our server was missing most of the dinner and we had piles of dirty plates all over our table right to the end. I’m not happy with this place after bringing my family here to spend the holiday.

I have been going here for a few years now. It is a great restaurant and great service. However, the last time I went recently, they overcharged my card. It was less than $10 overcharge so it wasnt the biggest deal but they still should not have made that mistake at all as a well off restaurant. I called them multiple times and even spoke to the manager personally in which he said he would fix it and i even sent pictures of everything. He said i should see it in my bank soon but its been many weeks and i never got my money back. The money is not the issue because it was not that much. It is just the principle of the fact that it was not supposed to happen and they did nothing about it. So watch out for that!

We held our daughter’s Bat Mitzvah in the upstairs ballroom at Portobello Banquets. Vincent was great helping us book the party and he was very accommodating. The wait staff was nice and professional. They even prepared a special plate for me due to allergies. The guests enjoyed the buffet. The buffet was refilled as needed and looked good. The cake they custom ordered for our daughter was exceptional. Better than a lot of wedding cakes I’ve had. Thanks for setting up the room so nicely and all the little extra attention. I’ll be back if the occasion arises :)

I went here for my cousins engagement party and thought it was really really nice. I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and family. One thing you should know is that there is no wheel chair access which is completely ridiculous in my opinion.

Eh....went to a baby shower rooms were separated by a curtain...so you could hear the other party. Not my money to hear another party. Get sliding glass doors or something. Wait staff were ok. Seemed stressed and a little snappy. But forgivable. Parking lot gets full very quickly. Good location. Food was at the level you would expect...for a place like that. Suggestion...let the guests put the dressing on the salad.

While the party room upstairs was very pretty the staff lacks customer service big time. The 3 servers were very very nice but the bar tender she was very rude. The woman in charge was beyond rude. She stormed into the room after the party was over & told us we had to hurry up pack up our stuff & go. She is in desperate need of training in how to run an event. Short staffed. Guests were cutting their own cake. Waiting for coffee when it ran out & then had to wait for coffee cups. & they only knew to get more coffee & cups after I had to go in search for someone to let them know. No one was around ever. You had to go searching for someone every time you needed something. They put antipasti out with all the food for the main course at the same time. Disappeared! Took everything away, put out dessert. Disappeared! I called ahead to ask if they had long lighters I could use to light all the candles & she said yes but you have to give them right back as soon as your done with them as if I would have any other intention. I was taken aback at her demeanor. It was rude It was the way she spoke. Extremely surprised by the lack of professionalism & customer service. It felt like disrespectful children that don’t know any better we’re running the show. So many unacceptable things going on. It’s disgraceful to take someone’s money offering something you have no business doing.

Went there on Mothers Day, and was impressed by their organized operation. We had reservations and were seated immediately, the buffet had a nice variety of brunch items, all of which were very good. Portobello knows their business.

Food was good and place is clean. However the chairs are not all stable. Two chairs I sat in were wobbly left-to-right. I dont want to end up on the floor and I shouldnt have to locate a safe seat! Cmon people tighten the screws on all the chairs.

The food was excellent. Wait staff were great. They had coat check. Building was a little warm for those formally dressed. No baby changing station in the lower level restrooms. Clean.

We threw a surprise retirement party for my dad at the banquet hall at Portobello’s. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or accommodating. Anthony, Vincent and head server Liz were outstanding in everything leading up to the party, and my family really appreciated their sincere service. The food was OUTSTANDING. Highly recommend the eggplant parm and the salmon w/ horseradish. We had salad, penne alla vodka, and four main dishes. We had 120 people for this party in the upstairs ballroom. People were going back for seconds, thirds and then some! The buffet style was the way to go for this type of party, and fairly priced per person, too. They were continuously refilling all of the trays. They were very accommodating with scheduling the food and dessert to come out about a half hour later than they usually do - to allow for my dad to get there after all of the guests. It was such an amazing night and our family couldn’t have been more pleased with the way the night ended up. Thanks again guys! Top notch service, and professionalism all around.

Dinner was fine and as expected. We ran into an issue when it came to dessert. Service of dessert and coffee was extremely slow and unorganized. Part of the room was served and then there was a gap of at least 15 minutes before the other half of the room was served. Additionally the cake was not cut properly. Of the portions that I could see they were not complete slices of cake.

Decent food, 3 to 4 course lunch, appetizer pasta, salad, main (seabass, steak or chicken masala) & dessert. Seabass flaky, steak nice & tender, chicken masala very tasty & tender. Salad is typical salt & vinegar.

Came here with the family for Thanksgiving. Menu online has both traditional thanksgiving items plus others you would expect at Portobello like eggplant rollatini. First let’s start with the turkey which was suppose to be a carving station. No station but instead a tray of turkey. That would work but upon closer inspection the darker meat that the manager (the one with the shirt and tie) added to the dish is a little pink. My first thought was it was not cooked, but nope the issue was it was some type of roast beef mixed in with the turkey (see picture). Really?! Next the mashed potatoes that is a thanksgiving staple. I went up to the buffet four times and each time it was empty with no worker in sight to even ask. So after I give up on the traditional Thanksgiving items I go for the more Italian dishes. Half of the items were not named so it was a guess as to what it was. Pasta with vodka sauce was a joke as there was so much water in the dish that the sauce would not stick to the pasta. Try to get some extra sauce and you also got a plate full of water. When I get back to my seat I realize I have never had colder food from a buffet in my life. With the over a hundred patrons for that particular station I have no clue why the dishes would be cold as they swapped them out.Beyond the food I found the lack of any decorations just sterile. White table clothes and brown napkins, that is it. Trays of cheeses and appetizers just thrown onto white trays and then onto the tables. Maybe that would work if the tables were full but with so much extra table space for the couple of plates it looked so sparse. Also no salt and pepper at the tables but instead ONE set on the buffet. So much for tasting food before seasoning it.So lastly the service, which seemed to also follow the theme: lacking. At a buffet service is more about taking an occasional drink order, which she did but only after I flagged her down and asked for them. It is also about clearing dishes. Only once after we had salad and cheeses did she clear the dishes. After multiple trips up for food for the whole table, and dessert dishes accumulated at the table. We kept pushing them into the middle and stacking them ourselves.So while it was a less stressful Thanksgiving I would gladly spend hours next year cooking myself rather than ever coming back here.EDIT: In addition to posting this review I also sent an email to Portobellos using the email address on their website. It was factual with what happened and included the same picture I posted. A week later no response.

Was there for a 1st birthday party. I asked for a salt shaker and I was told no. I didnt think he understood what I said so I said, salt? He said sorry, no. I was frankly shocked that a restaurant of portobello status could possibly have something that ridiculous happen. Ive been here numerous (20+) times for banquet hall and restaurant events and they are inconsistent, hit or miss.

This place is very elegant my brother had his daughters party sweet 15 there the service is great they have a lot of room space they also have a dance floor and a bar that serves beer wine for free and they also served alcoholic liquor drinks those u gots to pay for they also have great food a lot of selection they have a staff that takes care of food drinks and cleaning as well as setting up the tables and chairs they decorate them they also have parking for ur guest cars this place is fancy u will feel rich if u have ur party there is beautiful everything is beautiful and they also have rest rooms very clean rest rooms they also have security in case of trouble well I hope this is helpful and I dont know how much they charge that u have to contact them for that info well thats all

I go to this banquet hall about once a year, and Ive never had an issue with them. Their food setup, as well as the quality of their plates, is always spot on (especially their eggplant). Ive always gone here for work events, so Im not sure about the pricing, but the parking is great and the staff/selection/layout of the place are all spot on. If youre looking to try out a new banquet hall, give this place a shot. The quality has never dipped!
