I got my Shihton fur baby Betty White from the Novi Family Pet a little over a year ago. At that time, finding a pet was extremely hard due to covid. I stumbled upon the family pets website and was immediately impressed by how easy it was to view all the puppies info online. Finding my Betty wasnt hard at all, and even more impressive, I was able to set up a meet and greet with her the day she became available. The staff was very friendly, even under the strain of covid, they did their best to provide me with safe and excellent customer service. Once I got my baby home, I discovered that she was a diva almost immediately. This little baby is like no other dog Ive met. Shes gentle, happy, cuddly, smart, and so beautiful, especially her eyes; her eyes are just heart melting! The only small issue I had with her (which is normal for little dogs), she was a picky eater. Luckily the owner, who is very friendly and caring, was super helpful and readily available by phone with any concerns. Id give the Family Puppy 1000 stars, they gave me the happiness I needed during such an unprecedented time and I am forever in love with Betty!
Our visit to the store and play date was okay.. the prices are about 2k higher then local breeders but the dogs seem well cared for. Zero follow up though after talking about financing and adoption.Editing my review: The team at Family Puppy called me immediately to let me know that I fell through the cracks with their new system and were very apologetic. Had a great conversation and learned more about the care of their dogs and next steps. Also was very helpful in discussing introducing our other dog to a new puppy.
One of the best pet stores I’ve ever been in. The first thing I noticed was how clean it was. The dog cages were the cleanest I have ever seen. The staff was friendly and helpful. I recommend going there if you are looking for a new dog.
Was told that the credit check for financing was a soft inquiry, but all credit reports for my partner and I show the check as a hard inquiry. Not a huge deal, but credit checks arent something to lie about.Puppies seem well taken care of and happy, but prices are SIGNIFICANTLY above what local AKC registered and trusted breeders charge. The benefits you receive here, such as health guarantees and joint guarantees, are no different than what youd receive at any reputable breeder for a fraction of the price. The only difference is a warranty to replace or pay you for a percentage of the dog if something tragic were to happen in the first 2 years. Just like a car warranty, its incredibly rare for something to happen in the first two years and warranties are designed to INCREASE a companys profits, not cause them to spend money. If you have a huge wallet and are willing to pay for the small increase in convenience, this is an excellent place to go. But if youre willing to spend an extra few days searching for and speaking with local breeders, youll likely save thousands of dollars for a similar or better quality pet.
We adopted 2 puppies from them in January of 2021. For what we paid, my expectation was that we would have carefully selected dogs with great genes. The puppies are a mix of Rat Terrier and Cavalier Spaniel. One puppy is perfect. The other has some real mental issues that result in extremely aggressive behavior. The dogs have been with with well accredited trainers and our vet. They all believe the issues are a result of genetics. When purchasing the puppies we were told about how selective the Family Puppy is with the breeders and how all dogs were AKC certified. We were offered the opportunity to review the parents papers. I trusted that when we were told the parents were certified, we were being told the truth so I declined. Turns out the mom was not certified or akc registered. We were also told the dogs have only eaten Lifes Abundance dog food since they stopped nursing. We had to purchase the food to keep the dog warranty. The dogs had digestive issues for the first few weeks after bringing them home. Once they adapted to the food they were fine. I am not certain that the dogs were on the food from day 1. My guess is the food the breeders fed them was something different. The reason they force that food is because they get a kick back from Lifes Abundance as long as you feed your dog that food.I think overall they do a decent job, but it seems they are willing to cut corners and creatively tell the truth in order to make an extra buck. My next dogs will be from reputable breeders where I can actually meet the mom and dad.
We bought our Shichon puppy from them. The price seemed a little high but it was all worth it. They showed me the breeder info which was really helpful to determine how large our 2 pound purchase would get. She is now fully grown at 6.5 lbs and very healthy. We continue to use the Veterinarian they recommended and are really happy. This was over 4 years ago and I highly recommend The Family Puppy of Fountain Walk.
My so and I were in the market for the new addition to our family. We had the best outcome and experience. Our husky was happy and healthy. Some stress from the move but thats expected. We had to change his diet 8 weeks after because he refused to eat it, and we were desperate. The life time pup hotline helped us with this, and helped us with potty training. Hes a little territorial but hes our lead dog in our new home. I loved the fact the women behind the counter used to take him home to play with the other dogs she owned.
Great experience!!! Alexis was very knowledgeable and attentive to our puppy picking experience! Our Puppy Counselor (as well as the entire staff) did an excellent job answering our questions and made this a memorable family affair! Had much concern and apprehension to purchase from a pet store however The Family Puppy had VERY detailed information on both parents, genetic testing of parents, & breeder videos. Our pup was vet checked prior to sale and also has a free follow up visit with veterinarian. We feel very confident in our decision to give this sweet little puppy a forever home 💗~
After talking with the lovely people at the family puppy store i loaded up my kids and drove over 2 hours. I wasnt sure if all the great sounding things were going to be true, but had a good feeling. 100% absolute best !!! We found our perfect fur baby !!! Even with this epidemic going on everything was great. So thankful for my amazing fur baby.
Beautiful puppies. Nice staff. The purchase process was too long though
I just bought a puppy here last night! Everyone here was SO nice and helpful; letting us take as long as we wanted with any of the puppies up for adoption and explaining financial options available. I am so glad I chose them! I havent come up with a name for my new little one but, she is healthy, happy and already settling in just fine (:
This is such a great pet place. I recommend coming to check it out. The Family Puppy also has these little separated areas where you can play with puppies one on one so you can see how much you like them. I love animals and am willing to take care of them, and even though being still a child I have done research on animals and The Family Puppy meets all my expectations and my parents too. Overall a place worth getting an animal from.
I am in the process of buying my first puppy here. Great staff. Very well taken care of puppies. I am very happy so far.
This place is horrible. Large dog breeds such as labs and huskys crammed into tiny cages. Smaller breeds crammed 2 per cage. Clueless staff who know zero about dogs. They clearly get their dogs from puppy mills and then have nerve to sell them for thousands of dollars. These people should truly be ashamed of themselves.
To begin with, I do not support puppy stores. This store however does not even give animals proper care. They do not have any toys and cages are WAY to small. We have taken out several of the dogs here and it’s sad how hyper they become when taken out; since they’ve been stuck in tiny cages for so long. The dogs are very expensive and from what I’ve heard not usually too healthy. You’d be better off adopting from a shelter or directly from a breeder. Please do not get a dog from here.
My puppy is a joy and a plus to the rest of our babies. The family puppy took great care of my puppy and the owner of The Family Puppy was very helpful and very nice. Thank you for our new fur baby.
Friendly and professional service. No surprises........We had a great experience and received a wonderful puppy!
DO NOT BY A DOG FROM HERE! Consider yourself warned. I payed triple the price for a dog that I thought I was helping just to find out there was no chance at saving it. 30 day warranty is a joke.
My husband and I got our huskypoo puppy from here. We got a really good deal on him because he was on sale. The lady that helped us did a great job. She answered a lot of questions I had about having a puppy. She has a few dogs herself, so that helped. The only problem I have had with this company is the brand that they make you buy once you purchased the puppy. My puppy had diarrhea due to the amount of high fiber.
Came into the store today during a busy time and both workers were great and very helpful! Alexis helped with getting out the dogs I wanted to play with and was super nice with everything! 10/10 recommended
Went in here with my mom a few days ago and the smell was so putrid we left after less than 2 minutes. It was so strong I left the store gagging. It smelled like sick dogs with diarrhea to put it nicely. The dogs in the cages even looked sick and they had several dogs smushed into the same tiny cages with no toys and only paper that was caught the in the fur of several of the long hair breeds. Absolutely outrageous environment. I cant believe this place hasnt been shut down.
Workers made it easy to interact with puppies. We found a new family member very easily. Price was good compared to other stores. Would go back for another puppy if need be.
I have tried to go a few times in the last 9 months. The smell was so bad I couldnt stay. They have such intense deodorants to cover the stink...those poor puppies! Imagine how unhealthy it is for them to breathe all of those chemicals! Im just disgusted.**reply** I am not confused. You may SAY that the puppies are your first priority, but your actions are very different....still disgusted.
If I could give zero stars I would. This store is the prime example of pet stores that purchase their animals from puppy mills. I do not have absolute proof of that but walking into the store not only did my stomach instantly turn because of the putrid smell but my friend had to leave because he started to gag because of the smell. I am an animal lover and the smell of dog does not bother me in the least. I cannot even describe the smell in there except for putrid and possibly from infection and sickness. Out of the 15-20 pups that were in there, 90% looked sick 🤕. I am just distraught that those animals have to live in those conditions. It breaks my heart. I don’t know if pet stores are regulated but this one absolutely needs to be inspected! Someone please help those animals.
Sales staff, Alexis, was great. Very helpful in walking us through our options and helping pick the right addition to our family. Thanks!
I purchased a puppy from this puppy store in 2018. They were so nice and helpful. I found the best puppy in the area. Price was good, too. Turns out, after 11 months, my little fur baby is my favorite dog of all I have had.
They really care about there pets they want you to have good experience I had an issue of concern about their recommended dog food . right away on a sunday no less they called me to answer all my concerns. The dog I got is a great addition to my family Thank You for your Help
If you know anything about dogs or love them you would not support this business. 2 large labs crammed in a cage together without enough room to lie down. Disgusting cages. Puppies need tons of exersize to grow and develop. Having them crammed together in small glass cages with metal grates is horrible for them physically and emotionally. Im a dog groomer and have been a vet tech my whole life. My boyfriend had to pull me out of there because I was in tears. You cannot say you care about animals and be okay with this. Dogs in the shelter have more room to move around and cleaner cages.
Fun place. Got to play with puppies. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable.
03/27/08 I walked in to this store just wanting to let my boys enjoys some happy as my husband and I were going threw some hard times. Little did I know my little white fluff ball would be coming home with us and changing our lives forever. He has always been such a good boy and is still with me today. He gave me a scare and I thought I was going to lose him and it just broke my heart thinking of my life without him. So I thought the owners of the store I purchased him at would like to know he is still going strong hes still with his original family and he is greatly loved. I didnt have all the money needed and you let me leave you with multiple checks and take him home. I thank you for trusting me and giving me so many years of absolute love.
Animals were great! The people working there could be more friendly, especially dealing with kids and animals. Some look for puppies but others just look for something to do. Overall experience was good.
Fantastic place, great place to find a puppy! Knowledgeable and professional experience.
I’ve been in here a few times to play with dogs and I can 100% agree the staff is crazy rude. There was a young girl named Selena in there my first time who rolled her eyes so much I thought they were about to get stuck in the back of her head. They get so annoyed when you walk in wanting to play with the dogs, like it’s such a huge chore to give these poor pups some free time out of their cages. They do put oversized dogs in small cages and I’ve seen them put two large pairs of huskies and labs in plastic cubes or “cages”. It’s not humane in the slightest. And it’s not just one employee, I’ve been in there about a half dozen times and each time they’ve been insanely short and unkind. Straight up kids don’t work there if you don’t like 75% of the job?? Which IS opening the cages and letting these poor animals have free time. How dare you be so rude about.
I got a puppy there, animals have a good play time with everyone who visits the store. They gave us good tips and eveything needed for the first days.
Went in an was appalled at the conditions. 4 puppies per tiny box and all eating paper. Two people working there is not enough to handle the dogs and crowd. We asked a sales associate and they dont seem to work with any local shelters at all and she couldnt give any verification on conditions of the breeders. This place should shut down or commit to working only with local shelters, rescues and humane societies in order to place dogs in need into homes instead of profiting off of puppy mills.
We are so thrilled with our new Havanese puppy!! The first week we had him, he only had 1 accident in the house (and that was really my sons fault). He is so friendly, so cuddly, was able to fetch and return within a few days, and was very patient with my older (grieving) dog. We had just lost our dog of almost 10 years. My other dog was extremely depressed!! We were advised by the vet to get another puppy sooner rather than later because my dog never spent 1 night away from from my other dog (the one who died) in 9 years. I wasnt sure how she was going to react to the puppy. The puppy would try and play with her, but she wanted nothing to do with him. The puppy new when to leave her alone and was very patient. I honestly didnt think my dog would ever take to the puppy. Well, now they are great friends and my 9 year old dog acts like a puppy herself. I have to believe that a lot of the reason why the puppy is the way he is is because of how well taken care of he was before we got him. This place is a great place, and they really do treat their dogs like their own. This puppy was such a great addition and has helped my family with the grieving process over the loss of our other dog.
We totally love our puppy he is healthy and adjusted great into the family. The people who work there should probably know better the one or other thing about the different breeds of the dogs but we didnt had a bad experience overall everything went great for us!
We got our Lhasa/Bichon mix from there in 2006, and she is just the best! A wonderful, healthy, good natured dog, and so good with our kids (who came after her!)Since we purchased our dog, weve had friends and family purchase dogs from this store and all have equally successful stories as ours. Its actually the only pet store I would even look at!
I definitely understand why these guys rating is so low! I came in inexperienced about animal ownership and just wanted to inquire about the process and prices. They were not helpful at all! Both girls were dry and not very enthusiastic. It was Monday afternoon at 4pm on February 25th. The fact I took time to write this shows you the attitude. And because I havent seen any responses from the owners on others reviews, I take they dont mind either.
Clean and safe
Looking past of their outrageous prices. Do not fall for their credit line that they offered this should be illegal. They did not explain exactly what they were selling with the credit line as they only told us about the payments of $200 a month they didnt mention anything about how the program is a lease program which I never heard of such a thing. We are not forced to spend triple the amount the dog that we purchased I am not exaggerating triple the amount. Luckily for us we can cancel the agreement high paying only double the amount stay away from this company
We have adopted two wonderful dogs from Family Puppy. Neither one have any medical issues and both have been easy to train and very loving family pets. Would recommend this facility!!
I came in to visit The Family Puppy and the two young ladies “Alexia and Justina” were very helpful. Definitely coming back this weekend with my parents!
My first time at this location. I was interested in a Shepard/ lab mix and they were all sold at my nearby location. The staff there sent me to this location. Upon arrival it took 20 min for staff to even acknowledge me. They put me in the larger room to play and socialize with the dog. I wasnt aware that once the door is closed only staff can open door it doesnt open from inside. Well five min into socializing with the dog it became very nippy and biting and pulling our pant legs. She wouldnt stop and wasnt destracted by the toys. You couldnt touch her or she nip your hand or arm. We knocked and knocked to get out of there once we couldnt get out. No staff paying attention we are trying to get away from this dog leaping up on us and nipping our arms, legs. Finally a customer got the staff and she let us out. I told her the dog is extremely nippy and not sociable. She said yeah shes teething. Well that would of been nice to know that dog is nippy. Glad my daughter is older. Staff need more training. I wont be back. And I feel sorry for the dog because she need love and socializing.
I have purchased 2 pups & almost a 3rd from Family Puppy Novi. My first experience with F.P. was 3yrs ago when I found my Noelle, a Cavalier. It was terrific. The manager really knew her stuff & answered all my questions. The owner even called & spoke to me. My only issue was, Noelle came home with giardia & 3 vet visits later, we finally got rid of the messy parasite. So obviously she & many other pups were suffering with it. My 2nd purchase was with a friend of mine, December 2018. The staff was much less professional & knowledgeable. We love the mixed breed Shitzu Poodle but our vet did say he might have Dachshund somewhere in his history. We dont mind but how can we know for sure without DNA testing. AND The inventory had DOUBLED & there were older dogs still waiting for a home while growing up in crates at a strip mall. The 3rd visit was with another friend. She found a Cavalier like Noelle but the price was 1k more. So I started doing research & asking questions. The answers I did & didnt get are the reason for this review. As I started asking questions, they dropped the price twice. Hmmmm, they finally told me the pup was not registered with AKC & the mom had no health certificate for heart & eye issues Cavaliers often suffer from. So the initial price is shocking. But then I learned the breeder has 10 intact breeding females. So I asked for that breeders veterinarian info to call & confirm the humane treatment of so many females at one facility. They would not give that information to me nor did the owner ever call me back after numerous requests to speak with him. Family Puppy may have started out with the best of intentions but they are now just a middle man for puppy mills with an irresponsible number of puppies waiting to be taken home. If people continue to shop for puppies at places like this, the puppy mill industry will never shut down. And the inhumane treatment of animals will just continue. I will never go looking for my furry family member again at a store. And I strongly urge others to not buy from Family Puppy. Find a reputable breeder where the pups grow up with their litter mates & mama until they go home with you and not stuck in a crate in a strip mall. The prices are the same and you can see for yourself where your puppy is coming from. My hope is that more people make this decision and stores like Family Puppy go out of business & the puppy mill industry ends once & for all.
Bought my German Shepard here and he is so wonderful and the people are so nice
Beautiful healthy looking puppies. I am considering making a purchase
Found our latest dog there. Good pricing when compared to pet store in 12 oaks mall
If you look responsible (have an adult with you) theyll let you play with a puppy for 10 minutes.
Selena and Annika made the experience of buying our first puppy memorable and enjoyable. They were knowledgeable, compassionate, and very patient with my wife and I. We walked out feeling comfortable and confident that we found the perfect addition to our family!
More experienced staff know a lot about the puppies, but younger staff seem inexperienced. That being said, we got our Shorkie there 9 years ago & she is a treasure.
They are very pricey puppies for no reason. I mean the girl in Toledo Said he was only $228 and here they said it ranges from $1000-&5000. The only good thing about that store is that they at least have puppies. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Took our 2 year old here and he absolutely loved it! You get to play with puppies and they have a build-a-bear like machine to get stuffed animals, I think it was only like $10 to get a stuffed dog!
Can i have one plz
I would like to start off by saying this place is a disgrace there worker that was working there on January 31 2016 4-5:30 was very rude and I wont stand for this, she lied about the dog being on rest and never even attempted to ask if I needed anything, she didnt even greet us when we walked in . She let everyone else play with the dogs but when it came time for them to leave, I asked for the dog and she said that he was going on rest. I constantly asked for 4 different dogs and she said they were all on rest so I say thats woman needs to be fired
It is a very nice shop the staff are very friendly and have excellent knowledge of the puppies that they care for and sale.
Tons of designer mutts at outrageous prices crammed into stinky tiny cages. I felt so bad for these dogs crammed 2 to 4 in 3 foot square cages with water bottles like rabbits.
The puppies are all adorable but I just felt bad being in there. I wish that these places were not for profit or something where all proceeds went to the humane society.
Smells awful, looks like the front for puppy mills. So sad.
We bought our puppy 6 years ago from The Family Puppy in Novi, MI. He is quite simply the best natured dog Ive even known. He was examined by our vet immediately after we purchased him. The vet was so impressed with his health condition and told us that she would purchase a puppy herself from them. Our dog (shorkie) has remained healthy since we brought him home in September of 2009. I hate that anti-puppy mill activists post negative reviews without any facts or personal experiences with this establishment. Please leave the reviews to those who have actually purchased a puppy from The Family Puppy. We love our little buddy, hes the best dog weve ever owned.
Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the puppies, and the knowledge of the staff.Lots of the initial setup of getting a puppy is taken care of including first vet visit.
They made everything right by having the puppy that I needed
The most adorable fur babies Ive ever seen!
Unique pups. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Very friendly and helpful staff, love!
I was looking for a puppy last fall and i came here, they all look cute when you look at them. When i asked the woman can i play with one she brought him to the closed off area where the dog was bored and ripped my sweatshirt, i dont blame the puppy he doesnt know better i asked her for a toy and she looked at me like i was crazy and put the puppy back. I was looking at the other ones in the cages and she pulled one out to take pictures of it and the puppy wouldnt look straight at her and she slapped it! I immediately left. I wont give money to someone who does things like that. I picked up a 2 yr old dog from the humane society where they really do seem to treat the animals with respect and dont go all crazy about getting a picture.
I love this place!!! IM GETTING A PUPPY FROM HERE THIS SUMMER!!!
Kids had fun playing with the Great Dane puppy!
Overpriced in my opinion. Going there is a bit frustrating. Its really small. They have some cute puppies albeit with a lackluster selection. Be prepared for an adult or two with a kid or two and for some reason 8 of their kids friends. It was crowded and uncomfortable.
Puppies seemed healthy and well fed, although staff members were very rude, and quite snappy, I was with friends and when we walked in we asked to play with one of the Labrador puppies, and the woman assisting us scoffed and walked out of the room leaving us to wait and eventually have to ask another person😅. Not the worlds worst experience but, nicer employees would be great.
Always enjoy spending with the puppies and the staff is always helpful and friendly
Puppys were super cute, fun and playful, wonderful staff and wonderful establishment.
Cute puppies but they have a very small selection.
Dogs look tired of the small cage many pacing back and forth all dogs are over priced
Rude staff and sad living conditions for the animals. Please! Dont buy from places like these!
Bought a great puppy there.
The girls working there were very rude. One of the workers would just be standing there so i said excuse me can i get some help and she looked at me and walked away and asked a white family did they need any help.
Changing my review, went in there to see huge puppies thrown in too small cages, multiple puppies it’s heartbreaking to see, if you are getting a dog just go adopt one or go get one from a responsible breeder.
Beautiful pets and good price.
Great puppys nice staff
Really friendly staff and puppies!
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Good place for kids to interact with dogs
Nae puppy looked thin and emaciated...I could see his ribs and with a 2500$ start price you can keep those mill hounds
Got to love capitalism!
Prices are ridiculous
I love the serves
Friendly and nice.
Cute puppies
So cute.
Place wasnt in best of shape!
Over priced
Great and friendly
Cute puppies
