I’m thankful to God for placing the Ayerst Family in my path. I started Choi at the lowest point of my life. I couldn’t get out of my bed.I didn’t want to.I could barely eat and keep fat on my body. Pretty much, I was a walking corpse. For a year, Sabumnim Ayerst CONSISTENTLY encouraged me to come in to train. One day, I decided I was never getting out of bed again. I told God that. Seconds later, I got a phone call from Sabumnim. In that moment I knew God sent him. He was more persistent than usual. So I decided to give it a try. I had no other choice. I was wasting away.Coming in, I was full of anger, rage, bitterness and pain. I was broken. I struggled with Post Traumatic Stress, Depression and Focus issues (ADHD). I was a mess.Sabumnim Ayerst has dedicated hours upon hours at the dojahng keeping me moving forward, setting goals, drilling positive thought patterns into my head, training in technique, walking me through breathing techniques to help me with my tremors, and talking me through triggers and flashbacks. Praying with me. And his family has supported him supporting me through it.With tough love, Sabumnim Ayerst has been a coach, a brother, a friend, a father, a therapist, a pastor, a Doctor. Sometimes a teacher takes on many roles. I dragged him through Hell with me, and back again. And he didn’t leave even at my most rebellious moments. He toughed it out and taught me perseverance, discipline and determination. Leading by example.I’ve been training for a little over 2 years now. I’m stronger physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I’m prepping for my Black Belt and working on becoming an Assistant Instructor. My three children are training and just received their green belts. It has helped us come together as a family.Jesus is my Savior, Choi is my therapy and Ayerst Choi Kwang Do is my second family. With the leadership at ACKD, I’ve been taught how to to persevere through trials and to keep moving forward no matter what. It’s not about a belt, it’s about the journey.Forever grateful,Emily Maureen Davidson
Mr. Ayerst, family and Instructors are top notch. I have had the pleasure to get to know them over a number years. His dedication to the martial arts is exciting and contagious.
Great Instructor, great staff and clean facility. Everything a parent would want in a martial arts experience for their child. As an Adult Instructor myself, Deputy Master Ayerst personifies class, patience and the positive demeanor that is critical to have as a teacher in martial arts. Keep up the great work and growth sir. Pil Seung!!
Great environment to learn martial arts and self defense. Really good for character development and personal growth for kids and adults alike.
I have been doing Choi ever since I was 7 and now I am 20 years old it has dramatically changed my life. From a timid little boy to an out going and confident young man. It has given me a positive outlook on life. This summer I will go from learning Choi to teaching Choi with hopes that I can make an impact on someone the way it did me.
My son (5) and I (41) have been attending Ayerst Choi Kwang-Do for the past few months and we love it. We attend classes twice per week and have a great time working with the instructors and classmates. The atmosphere is awesome - comfortable, fun, friendly, supportive and positively encouraging. We love the way the family can all participate in martial arts training together. Would highly recommend it to anyone that has an interest in learning self defense with the family. Pil Seung!!
Ayerst Choi Kwang Do is the epitome of the highest level of character, integrity, honesty, truth, values & morals. Over the last 10 years they have partnered with our church (St. James of Novi) to assist with our annual Self-Respect/Self-Defense workshop for our middle/high school students & young adults of the parish, & we couldnt be more pleased with how wonderful of a job they do year in, year out! Michael & his team are true professionals & their passion for how they teach is reflected in all of the lives they have empowered & hearts they have touched, including my own. I would recommend their organization to anyone who is looking to better themselves or loved ones, especially our youth!
Mike Ayerst does a fantastic job teaching the principles of Choi to all ages, children to adult. Very family friendly!Principles of Choi Kwang Do:HumilityIntegrityGentlenessPerseveranceSelf-ControlUnbreakable Spirit
Although I train at another school, I tested for my second degree black belt at Ayerst Choi Kwang Do, last Saturday. The Instructors and Examiners, were warm and welcoming. Mr Ayerst, organized a celebration at a local restaurant, following the test. Everyone was so positive and encouraging, sharing advice from personal experiences. It was a very enjoyable day and I am so grateful to everyone at Ayerst Choi Kwang Do, for making all of us who tested (and our families), feel so special.
I have been going to Ayerst Choi Kwang Do for just over three years and it has been the best sport/activity I have done! The owner, Mr. Ayerst, is one of the nicest and most positive people I have ever met! I highly recommend Choi Kwang Do itself to anyone interested in taking a martial art because it is fun, easy to start, and works around your schedule. You can go whichever days of the week you are free and you can go different days each week. I especially recommend going to ACKD because the instructors are very friendly and helpful and the facility is very nice and large.
My family and I have trained at ACKD for the past 10 years. All 3 of my girls have learned to be confidence and disciplined people through Choi Kwang Do. I love the family atmosphere also. We have several families that train together. I also like the family activities like pizza nights that we do.
Ayerst choi kwang do is a very good place to learn something new I have training for 6 years
