There couldn’t be a nicer guy to work with. Joe and his team looked after me promptly and expertly. Hard times with your car are hard times in life generally and these guys get you through it. Attitude free. It’s not all richy richy going in there. Be ready to park in small spaces and get a mom and pop feel. For me, that’s the dream. I’ll be loyal to them as long as they’re there. Say hi to the goldfish!
Had to find a shop for an emergency repair. I was from out of town but they could not have been more helpful and knowledgeable. Use them!!
2009-2014: Ryan was my go to mechanic for my vintage BMW e34 wagon. They knew the car inside and out. Experts! Amazing!2014-2019: Ryan was, of course, my go-to for my next vehicle, a late model Lexus LX470.Went in for a new exhaust, among other things. Got my car back and it was making horrible rattling noises. I brought it back immediately and they “looked it over, sending me on my way with a “nothing is wrong.” I brought it straight to my shop in NY because it was clearly broken, and they told me that it seemed like someone had mishandled one of my two catalytic converters and a piece broke off inside of it; the obvious cause of the rattling noise. New cat was ~$800. And the other cat still goes strong...Then I needed new shocks. Because the Lexus model (as opposed to the Toyota Land Cruiser) has height control, they were $1,300 as opposed to a couple hundred for coil springs. My height control worked perfectly, but Ryan was adamant that I do a full coil conversion for ~$2,300. I understood that it could reduce costs down the road if the height control were to have problems, but had seen Range Rovers etc with the coil conversion that wind up with a sagging front end. He convinced me after much persuasion (and much hesitation on my end) to do it, specifically and unambiguously promising that the truck would be “exactly the same height on both ends” and that he knew “exactly how to do it.”I go to pick it up. The front end was sagging so low it looked like the job was half done—totally not road safe. I refused to take it, which for some reason confused them? So, I get picked up, go home and google “Lexus LX coil conversion sagging.” In ONE minute I found countless photos and blogs matching the issue exactly, and learn that the coil conversion requires new Toyota Land Cruiser torsion bars, since the Lexus torsion bars are not compatible—they are designed to work with the height control. Totally makes sense, right?I go back in after they “fixed it,” even though they previously said it was fine (?), and it’s still grossly sagging. Again, I am told that they did “everything.” even though everyone there had eyes... I asked them specifically if they knew that the conversion required new torsion bars and they told me that I was wrong and it didn’t.. I begrudgingly paid and left, immediately bringing it to my guy in NY. He was shocked and told me that the truck was not even road safe the way they left it unfinished. If I had hit a pothole or bad bump on the highway on my trip down, things could have been deadly. Of course, I needed new torsion bars. An additional $700.I brought it in once more for some AC work. $1,700. Reasonable though, those lines are complicated. The next year I had to get it completely redone yet again? Thankfully by my guy in NY. Haven’t had a problem since...I brought it in yet again for something else (I forget what). I got it back with a wheel cap “missing” (/“not in the shop”) even though they are EXTREMELY hard to get off & the repair had nothing to do with the wheels...? Sketchy. Someone must have smashed it off accidentally? Even still—sketchy. In sum, I don’t know what’s happened here in the last few years. Used to be the best, but I, nor my parents, are using Ryan again. Writing this is very sad for me because of all the great experiences I had with my BMW (and other vehicles belonging to my parents). Not sure if he’s getting old? or has lost his best employees? Whatever the case, i have been completely roasted by this dude. Straight up lied to multiple times, even when my family has spent probably more than the cost of a new car at this place over the years. Multiple grossly negligent repairs. Thousands down the drain. On a Lexus nonetheless! All I gotta say is RIP this place I guess 💔 I’m adding two stars for the sake of the BMW.
Joe Ryan saved me over $2500. The VW dealership told me I needed to replace the Turbo on my Tiguan, a $2000 part, and that it was so labor intensive they were going to charge another $1000 just for the repair. It was going to take them at least a week just to get the part. I took it to Joe the next morning and he had it fixed by noon. He repaired the part instead of replacing it, whole thing cost $400. Thanks Joe!
The poor reviews are accurate. In contrast, there are repair shops nearby that are competent, respect the customer, have fair prices and are not arrogant. Dont be fooled by the occasional Porsche you see parked outside.
Competent service at a fair price. I will be back.
Joe Ryans the best.
Had several check engine codes fail my car for emissions. They diagnosed our car correctly pin pointing it to one problem.... repaired it at reasonable price. Passed inspection...high five to you guys
Reliable, good prices.
I have been meaning to write a review for 5 months. We brought our sons 2005 Nissan Altima for some significant and complex emmission repair work. After spending a lot of $$ at a different repair shop and the problem did not get fixed and car did not pass inspection. I brought the car to Joe Ryan. He and his team figured out the issues and fixed the problem. Car passed inspection and has been running without any issues. The cost was well worth the repair! I highly recommend Joe Ryan for any complex emmissions issues - he really dug into it and solved the problem.
Great!
Stay away from this auto shop guy. He is too hassled to work on cars, has little interest gaining business, and hangs up on potential customers. No wonder he uses radio commercials to spread the name, everyone knows how arrogant he is
Ive had several issues investigated here. The biggest job was a new set of struts and control arms to repair my beaten up suspension. Long story short, the mounts they used failed within 6 months and I brought the car back in to address the issue. They replaced the mounts and this time the fix lasted almost a year before failing. I ended up going to the OEM dealer who remarked on how screwed up the suspension repair looked. They fixed the issue for a similar cost and the components lasted much longer. Im not going back.
Ive had a lot of luck with getting in same day for work done at Ryan Imported.
