I understand that shelters are currently overwhelmed, but I adopted a kitten who has a severe case of ringworm which is highly contagious. The money I’ve spent (over $500, which isn’t much compared to others I’ve spoken with) and the time I’ve invested making him well is insane. We called to alert them and of course they acted like it was the first alert but I’ve recently heard other cases. Any shelter should recognize infections and treat them. They do not. Instead they ask you to sign a release form saying you adopt “as is.” *edit* I’m adding photos. The first is the one they provided, the second is how he looked when he came home, the third is after I treated him. He definitely got ringworm at this facility.
The place was immaculate and did not smell. The ladies were all very friendly. Besides taking puppy food each month, I will also give them my old bath towels. I also stress the fact that it is a no kill shelter. I encourage people to donate what they can please.
We got our puppy from here we had the best experience. Theyre really great people. I would certainly recommend them. We got a black lab puppy and my three kids havent stopped playing with her since we got heard almost a month ago. And shes already house training. Im loving it. Thank you so much kind keeper animal rescue and to all your staff. Keep up the great job and Im definitely be donating soon. And sending people your way!
20% animal rescue 80% puppy/kitten mill. I started following them on facebook a while ago as a I had recently moved to the area and am usually always involved in my nearby animal shelters. I liked all of their cute pictures for a while but then began to notice something strange, they ALWAYS had litters of brand new puppies and kittens. I understand that cats can have 3 litters a year but with dogs it’s much more difficult. Also, if a shelter has a litter of puppies they usually go quickly and there isn’t another litter for a while. Not with kind keeper. They are always willing to charge you $375 for a puppy. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt though and decided to check out their facility. Little kittens were sat in small cages right next to energetic screaming puppies. There was a room with a wall full of cages of small puppies, at least 20 puppies. Many of their animals were sick which can happen sometimes but was more common here then i’ve ever seen (i’ve worked/volunteered at 6 different shelters and rescues). Also, if you read through other reviews you’ll see more than one person who adopted an animal from them that died days later (also not very common). Lastly, I saw them at a festival where it was at least 85 degrees out and they had poor little cats and dogs just sitting in cages. I think they took the dogs out and they probably didn’t mind as much but were probably a bit scared. The ones I feel really bad for were the cats who were being poked by children and were probably way overstimulated (there were thousands of people at the festival). I believe they do help animals that are surrendered to them but other than that they are just looking for the cheapest way to raise an animal to then sell it for $300 plus. My review unfortunately doesn’t have the power to shut them down but just know this, if you’re gonna buy an animal from them don’t post about you “rescued” them from a “shelter”. Put that you encouraged the cycle of puppy mills which raises animals in subpar conditions only for profit and is one of the reasons there will always be homeless dogs and cats.
I dropped off puppy food to these Amazing People today.Im going to make a point of donating puppy and kitty food to them each month.I want to challenge everyone to do the same. That or either going into be a Hands-On Volunteer since this place is run solely by volunteers.
Adoption process was so easy. We came down to Myrtle Beach from WV for vacation. We were able to find our puppy Amelia (whose name we have changed to Riley) The staff even made special accommodations to let us pick her up on Sunday when we were leaving to go home, even though they were closed. Riley has been nothing but fun since we got her. We love her so much!
Adopted 2 kittens back in March. One had exploding diarrhea for months. We took her to Kind Care and they treated her, we thought. Nothing changed. After multiple prescriptions, we contacted the shelter and they treated her. No results. After 3 months of continuous diarrhea, we returned her to Kind Keepers and adopted another kitty. The 2 got along great but same problem. Took them to OnPoint and they were diagnosed with FIP and ended up putting both of them down, returning the first one which probably had the same thing since they all had the same symptoms. Very disheartening. We spent hundreds of dollars on vet bills, adoption fees, supplies, specialty food and have no kitties. Beware of adopting kittens here. It’s a shame because their hearts are in the right place, but to have that many sick kittens is worrisome.
This rescue center wants donations but wont allow someone to view their website. I dont think that anyone should have to long into FaceBook to view the website. This is a great way to loose an adoption.
The staff loves these dogs.. Kittens etc. What amazing work they do. The animals are beautiful. Please support in any way you can.
Adopted a cat. Fell for her instantly. Looking forward to many years with her
The staff is welcoming and friendly. They work very hard keeping the fur babies taken care of. Please donate anything you can to this wonderful group!
I adopted a kitten may 2020. Great experience. Staff are wonderful!! Ive recommended the shelter to friends!
Fell in love with 2 puppies. Staff was wonderful, efficient in spite of multitasking!! Got vet appt for me and love the choice.
My visit and adoption process very enjoyable... They are very kind and friendly... If you wanna adopt this is the place!!
Got our girl hazel the 14th of December. Shortly after getting her she started with worms in her poop and she was very lethargic. By the 4th day she quit eating. I took her to my vet Banfield and they said she has tapeworm which the dewormer the kennel gets will not kill tape worm and she had kennel cough which both are highly contagious to other dogs and pups. She is ok! She is very healthy now and acting like a average pup! I just want every one warned to get a vet check right away!( I did call the kennel and notify them the day after the vet visit)
The staff at Kind Keeper do a great job. They kept in touch with me during my application process and adoption. They gave me all the needed paperwork and information that I could pass to my vet. They even included tips and tricks for how to handle new puppies. I appreciate the hard work that Kind Keeper does to save animals and get them to the right home, and our new pup Gerty is happier for everything they did. Highly recommended!
They ALWAYS need donations- whether $, food, cleaning products, garbage bags, towels, prizes for benefit fundraisers, time, (dog walkers, clezning, office work, leashes, collars (all sizes), LAND
We traveled an hour to meet a pup today. All I can say about our experience is, very RUDE employees! Very unorganized! Did not want to answer any questions! They really messed up today, Sunny would have had the best family ever!!!Please do your research before making a decision!
Very friendly staff. Super helpful helping us pick out our new fur baby 🥰
Couldnt give 0 stars so had to do 1 star. I adopted two kittens through Kind Keeper from Petco in NMB a little over a week ago. Woke up this morning to one of them being dead so immediately called my vet and took the deceased kitten and the other one to be tested. Both came back with feline parvo so ended up having to put the other one down as well. Who knows what other kittens were adopted that had this as well since its very contagious. I cannot imagine an organization allowing this. Ive spent over 700 between adoption and putting them down and being tested and still have nothing to show for it. Im so disgusted right now at the fact that they continue to profit and adopt out sick animals. Ive tried calling but have been unsuccessful with getting anyone to even answer the phone.
Hard working employees & volunteers who really Love animals. Working on small budget but do a Great Job. This is definitely the place to adopt your next cat or dog!!!
These guys love their animals and take care of them tirelessly. Donations of money, goods and your time are always appreciated. We need more shelters like this around.
They were awesome and very nice and kind to my neighbor who I brought to adopt a dog. 😊🐾
Not once but twice I called on 2 cats, set an appointment to meet the cats. I never had a chance to meet the cats because they were adopted, even though I set an appointment. I dont know what type of business they are running there. A warning for future people who want to adopt an animal here be prepared to get a call saying the cat/dog you made an appointment to see has been adopted. DO NOT trust them when you make an appointment.
We are in the process of adopting a puppy. This review is more in response to other reviews like Library Lover. 1) The shelter does smell. There are many, many animals in 1 place. I checkout the enclosures to make sure the animals are not living in their own filth. The enclosures were clean and free of old feces or urine. The building is old but the pens are good size and the animals look to be warm and safe. 2) Some of the animals are in bad shape when they are received. These animals have come from horrific conditions. Dont expect a miracle recovery. 3) After care of the animal is your responsibility. If your animal requires antibiotics dont try and pawn it off on the facility. This is your responsibility in adopting a rescue animal. I also look at the adoption procedures which are for the protection of the animal but also show the care given by the shelter. If it is more stringent rules for adoption it shows that they care for the animals well being. I believe what your looking for is a breeder but you dont like breeder prices. You maybe better off without a new dog. To the rescue shelter volunteers who do the heartbreaking job of caring for wounded animals with LIMITED FUNDING keep up the great work.
They are the best found one of my rescues a home!!
We dropped off a donation.
It was a far drive but worth it to me. We got our babies from them and I have been looking at the website for another.
Very happy with the work that was done on my car. Price was very reasonable. Would highly recommend!!
Loving, caring no-kill shelter, people are kind knowledgable. Reasonable prices. Donations needed to care for animals thru several on going projects.
Great people doing great things.
I was surprised at the condition of the building and the lack of cleanliness. The smell was terrible and was hard to breathe even with a mask on. The dog I went to see was in terrible condition and it broke my heart. He had not been neutered and was on antibiotics that the shelter would not provide with adoption. I would not feel comfortable adopting an animal from this shelter.
Stays and unwanted animals are Blessed to have such caring people in our world
Cannot speak highly enough. This is truly the most loving and caring people I have ever seen. I adopted a tiny black kitten and she is healthy and happy from the time I picked her up. I was given her medical records and a sweet care package. We absolutely love our sweet kitty. Please adopt if you can.
They are very polite and let you know if they have what kind of animals you are looking for.
Kind Keepers is an amazing place filled with love for animals...I highly recommend it
We are so blessed to have the opportunity to be the recipients of Kind Keepers Animal Rescue. After an awful loss of our Great Dane our home and hearts were empty. We searched all over SC for the right fit for our home. We found Kind Keepers, a small rescue, but what an experience. They allowed us to come on their day off to accommodate our schedules. When we did we found the most amazing little angel and are so happy to have her. She was timid and shy, but upon arriving at home she really came out of her shell. Luna has already captured our hearts and is full of life. From her morning walk, Playing fetch with her ball, to her command of our attention she always needs to know where we are and l cant tell you how incredibly happy we all are. She is and will always be our Christmas Blessing, we are forever grateful.
Extremely upset and heart broken over my experience here. And Im not the only person with the exact same story. How this shelter is still open is beyond me. Wish people shared the negative experience on here like Im doing. If they did I would NEVER USE THEM EVER AGAIN. I met another lady who had sick kitten (s) yes plural, back in 2017 that died just as fast as mine did. So heres my story.... I went to the facility with my two young children and we had one kitten pick us to be his forever home. We paid the $95 adoption fee (our background check was completed prior to us arriving to ensure we would find a kitty for my young daughter) so we get the kitty who picked us even though he was so very skinny. (Mainly skin and bones literally feel every bone on him) thinking he just needs to be fed more and he will be stronger. All the kitten did was cry. Very vocal.... The first day I figured this was normal. He bit my daughter after coming home which, you know its a kitten. Eh. This will be important later in this. So anywho the kitten just slept and ate and got love all week from us as its an adjustment period. Continued to cry, so loudly that it was screaming and needed me to pick it up to make it to the restroom. By Friday (4 days in my house) I was getting concerned and decided it needed to go the vets but being a weekend I decided Monday would be when I can bring it and I would just feed it extra wet food in my lap to try to get its strength up. Well Monday never came as over the first weekend with us a VCA emergency vet trip was executed. And the young precious kitten my daughter has been kissing and sleeping with had to be put down. He was too sick and not in its right mind. Seizing no blood sugar even though it has a full belly of food and voided his bowls all over us. The VCA immediately thought rabies or distemper. Tested for distemper. Was negative. So now we are thinking rabies which Ill remind you my daughter was bit day #1..... Im a complete mess at this point. DHEC is now involved and a formal investigation being done. I called this shelter multiple times in tears (sobbing) to update them over my experience, about the VCA and DHEC about test results. First call she offered me a refund or replacement but then cut me off to call the VCA by the time I called with DHEC results and asked about my money back the lady was like yeah no too bad we arent responsible for the health of our kittens he was healthy before leaving. (Which he was not. VCA emergency vet stated hes been sick for a long time) now Ive patiently waited 2 weeks for a phone call stating I would be refunded. After another attempt of contacting them after this refund request. My heart has been broken for my children to go through this. The fear my 6 year old daughter with health issues might have rabies. The thought that others have had this situation with this shelter. Now I did my research before going. I read the reviews on here. But Im sorry to say the people who have been hurt like me are too devistated to share their horror story. This has taken me weeks to write as I still cry for my kids hurting. But what they are doing is not okay. Offer a refund in cases like this. My whole family went through a traumatic thing and I only asked for my money on a cat I barely had 5 full days. Now Im out almost $400 and have a hole in my heart and my family. RIP Charlie (AKA Oreo) the only positive here was that this boy was loved so much his last week of life and he at least got a family in his final days.
The owner does not care about the animals but only the money!! Animals are wonderful just wish they were in different hands and the business was run by someone less scatter brained.
We wanted to adopt one of their new puppies. We put in an application within minutes of them posting the pictures online. The automated email said they would be in touch. We didnt hear from then by 4pm the next day, so we called them. They said all of the puppies except the one we wanted had been adopted already. The lady on the phone needed approval from our HOA, so we got the approval for her with 10mins. She then called us back and asked if we would like to make an appointment to come see the puppy the next day. We made an appointment for 12:30 the next day. (We live 2.5 hrs away.) She told us that we wouldnt be able to bring him home that day, but we could meet him and love on him and come back the next weekend to pick him up. We traveled there the next day. Since we had to detour, we called to let them know we were going to be a few minutes late. We were informed that someone came at 10am and adopted the puppy. I dont understand how a business would think that was okay. No one even called to tell us not to come. Very poorly managed rescue.
They will tell you whatever they need to do that you pay/leave a deposit. Was told on a Monday afternoon that a puppy they had for 4 days already would be ready to go on Wednesday. Then Wednesday the dog now has worms and isnt up to date on shots etc, all information they clearly already knew. And it would now be weeks. Did give refund but explain to a 10 yr old why he cant have his puppy he picked. Would give zero stars but cant.
This was a great experience. Everyone was super friendly. We are excited to have a new furry friend.
This animal rescue team facility is amazing. They love these animals so much so please dont think twice. Pick up your new best friend. God bless
Wonderful people who really care about their dogs. They try very hard to make sure you get a dog that perfectly matches your needs and suits your personality. I feel very certain that they are honest about the dogs behaviors and medical needs and I would recommend them to anyone. Thanks ladies for being so kind and helpful to our family as we search for our new family member.
The volunteers do amazing work here, showing love and kindness and respect to frightened, abandoned animals. This is a no-kill shelter. There are dogs and cats both young and old. All help is appreciated. Why not give them a call and see how you can help.
Horrible experience!!!! We got a kitten from here recently and not only did it have a confirmed case of panleukopenia, it affected our other cat, and we had to put her down today. Buyer beware of these crooked and inhumane people!!!
Great animal rescue that is NO-Kill and dedicated to finding loving homes for their rescued animals.
We recently adopted Nelson it was easy and Nelson has finally settled in. It does take time and isnt an easy transition for the humans but it is very rewarding. My son loves his dog and he is part of the family.
Best place to rescue your fur baby. My Otis is the best.I had a problem and Belinda drove 40 miles to come help me.Thanks so much kind keeper!
It is a great place to adoption .
Lots of love here!
Very helpful not judgmental. Nice place, residents are very well taken care of
Love for all animals is what you will find at kind keepers and great folks loving all there fur babies young to old
Absolutely the best 10 stars
These folks are truly incredible people. And the facilities are THE cleanest Ive ever seen in a shelter or pet store. They help so many animals, they should be given an award for such hardworking & dedicated staff. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
We were able to speak to Volunteers who were very nice and helpful but did not see any pets at that time
Very clean and the staff are so friendly. They really take great care of all their animals.
Great spirit in this place. Needs are high. Donations of cash, food, time, help in anyway. If you dont walk away with alot of love in your heart...there is something wrong with you.
Please donate. This no kill rescue works endlessly to help these precious animals find forever homes.
Great people that genuinely care about the animals being adopted.
I adopted the sweetest senior furbaby. This place is a Godsend for your new pet
They was great
Very pleasant experience, nice people, and I am now the proud owner of the most adorable little puppy!!
Greatest place to get your pet. Rescue shelter I got 2 great puppies who are grown now.
They love the animals as much as you will when you pick yours out. The process is simple, the animals all have been vet checked, vaccinated, nutuered and spayed and socialized by the wonderful volunteers that work there.
Kind, compassionate ladies.
Superb service! Great tanning and CBD purchases
They truly believe in careing for and finding homes for every animal that comes to their rescue.
Had a bad experience with them. After Christmas went there to adopt a puppy. Picked one out, and my family was so excited to go back out to pick it up. Had to wait 2 weeks because puppy was not ready to leave mama yet. Put down deposit. 7 days later got a call that a mistake was made. Someone else already put a deposit down. I dont understand the mistake. The girl specifically checked availability when we were there. So of course we were all heartbroken.Although they do good work rescueing and finding homes for animals, i would definitely not go there again. There mistake really broke my kids hearts.
Great service! Belinda and her team are amazing. We love our new puppies.
After searching rescue sites for months, looking for THE One face that I knew would help fill-in the missing piece in our hearts. I found her picture on Kind Keeper site. After two weeks of texting & phone calls back forth, we were on our 45 min drive to get her. She was shy, of course, but won our hearts on the spot. We brought her home with us. Fast forward 5 days, her wellness health check-up with our vet of 25-30 years results:Had not been spayed, we were told in advance that she had not been & that we would need to take care of that, which at the time was fine. She had not had her rabies shot, nor had she been checked for heart worms.Note: This was in July, she had been in that shelter since March.Bloodwork found she has heart worms. Doc said three month treatment - $1,000 - and hope to be successful.Im not saying to stay clear of this shelter, I am saying proceed with caution, the pets there still need forever homes.
No kill shelter...adoption fee includes all shots..spay and neuter... wonderful volunteers
I got a new dog at the Kind Keeper. And I love this boy so much.
Please update your hours of operations. Went in Friday and then missed out on the dog of our choice because hours are wrong on google
Los of puppies
The animals are spoiled here with having large Kennels and people to play with. They always have food in their dishes and freshwater. I have never seen a nicer place
They take superior care of all their animals, are loving and kind to all.
This rescue works very hard to help animals. They care a lot. They are helpful and answered all of my questions.
