What a great school. Very professional and courteous to everyone including outsiders visiting. Coach is very intelligent and skilled in the art. 10/10 would recommend 100% of the time.
Awesome school and coach. Tons of classes to choose from to fit your schedule. Everyone is friendly here and very encouraging.
Ive had the luck of being able to train with Jacob back for a summer or two when he was at ACS when he was a literal prodigy purple belt. I seen him get promoted to brown belt and he was one of the most gifted jiujitsu people ive ever been lucky enough to roll with. If you are able to train here you absolutely should this dude is gifted and helped me more than hell ever know.Cheers, Jacob, hope youre well man, wish I could have stayed.
The school is filled with skilled, respectful students. The instructor is knowledgeable and welcoming. The facility and mats are clean. Id recommend (and do regularly) to anyone.
Great place to train. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Coach Jacob genuinely cares about helping everyone succeed
Started training at TTJJ about 6 months ago and have had nothing but a great experience at this gym. The coach and everyone I get to roll with have been very respectful and have pushed me to my full potential. 100/10 recommended
Coach, Jacob McClintock, is very technical and always shows the small details that make a big difference. Everyone there treats you with respect and trains with safety in mind. Glad I have the opportunity to train here. 👍🏻
Highly recommend this gym.... I dont live in Charleston but if I did I would want to be around these people.
Starting off my BJJ journey here, great environment to learn and train in.
Outstanding school with an outstanding professor. Tick Tock aims to provide a safe and fun learning environment for all students who attend.
Best place to train in charleston 💪🏼💪🏼.. group of great guys and a super cool and amazing instructor. love this place 💯💯💪🏼
I cant say enough good things about this gym. Not only is the instructing top notch but everyone at the gym is there to push you to achieve your goals. If you are looking to improve your BJJ game then this is THE place to train in the Charleston area.
This is a great gym to train at full of the some of the most welcoming and friendly people. If you are looking for a gym I could not more highly recommend this one.
Tick Tock is a high quality home for all your jiu jitsu needs. The coaching staff and instruction is professional, welcoming, kind, and patient with members of all skill, fitness, and ability levels. As a black belt in jiu jitsu who has trained at many schools across the country, I cannot recommend Tick Tock enough.
These people fight dirty just now a coach told his student to break a competitors leg in which the student did no honor in this gym no respect from me. By far worst gym. Would not recommend -100/10
Clean facility, quality mats with tons of mat space, and top notch instruction. Regardless of if you are learning the basics for the first time or refining advanced skills, the head instructor (Jacob McClintock) and students are friendly and always willing to assist you with reaching your goals and maximizing your potential. The lessons learned at Tick Tock will allow you to be successful both on and off the mat.
If you want to learn and get better at jiu jitsu, Tick Tock is the place to be! What you will find here is excellent, conceptual instruction from coach Jacob McClintock regardless of your skill level in a clean and modern facility with tons of mat space! Everyone in the gym is very welcoming but will push you to your limits in training! What you won’t find is sketchy contracts, excessive formal traditions, and big egos.If you’ve trained before and are looking for a new place to call home, or are wanting to jump into the sport, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t give Tick Tock BJJ a try!
Very welcoming experience. I was in town for work training and wanted a place to train some jujitsu aswell for the week. I was greeted by a group of very humble and talented people. The rolling was also very humbling. Calling the individuals I encountered hard working and dedicated would be a understatement. Thank you again for the training.
Great gym great coach!
Great place for VETS to train and/or learn for the first time. A lot of talent stems from the coach being what he is. Grateful to say I’ve trained here. There are reasons for the only negative reviews and it’s not because this gym isn’t great. A+ hope to get back soon
Great training, great athletes, great coach
Ive been training at Tick Tock for the better part of a year and it has honestly been a great experience. Jacob is an excellent professor. He is very detail oriented, yet he provides instruction everyone at all levels can use. Not a lot of flashy, trendy moves but techniques that are proven to work and make sense. His main goal for everyone is to make progress. The atmosphere in the academy is one where everyone can learn and have fun all the way from the newest white belt all the way up to black. Everyone in the gym is cool, no crazy egos or knuckleheads.Training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been one of the most challenging things Ive ever done, but its also been one of my favorite things ive ever done. Im glad Im doing it here at Tick Tock.
I cannot say enough positive things about this gym. Tick Tock is a great place to train with all belt levels throughout the week. Plenty of class times to choose from so theres no excuse to not make it in. Relaxed enviornment, yet you are pushed to become better each day. Coach Jacob is a great instructor with a clear passion for his sport and it shows and shines down into his students. 5+
Sophisticated men of culture
Ive been training at Tick Tock for about a year and a half. Ive had the opportunity to train at about half a dozen other schools while traveling. During those experiences I got to see the great things about my home gym that I would love to share with the world.1. InstructionJacob cares about your progress and your goals. Do you want to lose weight? He will hold you accountable when your not pushing yourself. Do you want to be a world champion? He will honestly asses your flaws and give you the necessary steps to improve them. Each month focuses on a specific position or technique. During the first few months of The Journey having a regimented curriculum will help your progress. Instead of bouncing from one position today and a completely different position tomorrow you are able to become proficient in the Months Focus. The curriculum is based off of positions that can be utilized from white belt to black belt. All of the moves I teach you, I use. is one of Jacobs Mantras. I was a little skeptical about this at first, then I witnessed him in a professional MMA fight utilizing a move he has us drill constantly. He won by submission. I am a believer.2. InclusionJiu-Jitsu is hard. It might be the hardest thing Ive ever done in my life. At this school you will find like-minded people who are willing to tackle this challenge together. The community at Tick Tock is diverse in age, experience, occupation and goals but unified in pushing each other to bring out the best in one another. There are some great role models in the gym to look up to. If it is your first day, someone is going to greet you with a friendly attitude and guide you through the difficult journey.3. StandardsJacob is meticulous. He cares about details. The gym is cleaned religiously. People see Jacobs commitment to hygiene and take it seriously. In regards to his instruction: because of his attention to detail, everyone has something to gain from each of his lessons. How do you place your hands? Which way are your hips facing? These are questions that are overlooked sometimes. Some places might say, Eh . . .Good enough . . . Not Jacob. With Tick Tock, you begin to understand that tiny details make significant differences in your abilities. Whether you are a brand new white belt or a visiting black belt you will leave a better person after training here.
I was in town briefly for work and felt an itch to train, so I dropped in here with my friend (his first time) on their weekly review class. Everybody was quite welcoming, and the class was great. The structure and material was quite good. Above all, it was a great atmosphere and it was cool how welcoming they were to both an experienced guy and a first timer.
Awesome group! Got stationed here in Charleston and I havent found another place that felt so welcoming and comfortable to train at!
I practice Jiu Jitsu primarily to learn and maintain self-defense skills and to stay in shape. I drive a great distance to train here because Jacobs teaching style is so effective. We are fortunate to have him here in Charleston.
Good people and a good mix of belt levels to roll with. Proud to be a part of this gym.
Very welcoming and clean facility with friendly and knowledgeable instructor/crew.While visiting from out of town, I dropped in for the Monday (10:00 am) fundamentals class taught by the owner, Jacob. The students spanned a wide range of belts and experience levels, and welcomed me, a 6 month white belt, right in.The instruction was great and perfect for my level, and everyone was eager to learn and teach. Then we had 30 mins of solid rolling after. I really appreciate the hospitality guys! Thanks, and we’ll see you all again soon! Oss.
Jacob McClintock has been associated with my academy GD jiu-jitsu since the early 2000s when he was a teenanger. Jacob is an incredible martial artist with a lot of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and MMA experience. Give Tick-Tock BJJ a try and you wont regret! 5 Stars!
Awesome place to roll. Instructor is knowledgeable and experienced. If you are looking around for an affordable gym that is worth your time, this is it. If this review helped let them know my name.
Very welcoming group with quality rolling during open mat! Couldnt be happier with my experience!! ^_^
Super friendly group of folks who are careful not to hurt you.
Tick-tock’s staff is very knowledgeable and willing to help no matter what your goal is. Every student is also very friendly and willing to learn. Facility is very clean and put together nicely. Highly recommend Tick Tock to anyone searching for a BJJ gym.
You will be welcomed here with open arms!! Beginners or vets theres definitely a place on the mat for you at Tick Tock BJJ. No bad attitudes here, Im a week in and everyone has been patient while I try to pick up on things. I can already see how fast I will advance here and its exactly what I was looking for. Ill probably start getting into some kickboxing classes as well as BJJ soon. Im glad I chose tick tock bjj. Jacob Mcclintock the professor does an A++ job with the students.
This place is great. Its not your kids karate class this is a gym where you can truly be tested. These guys are here to help but they will also push you farther than you thought you could ever go.
I remember walking into the gym on my first day, and hearing Joe Rogan’s podcast, where Eddie Bravo was being interviewed. I get to the back to where the members change into their respective gear, and hearing conversations about podcasts and instructionals theyve watched. Then I realized how high level the lower belts were and quickly realized I found a place to train. Today I strive for the knowledge and conversations that can be exchanged before, after and during training, so that I can one day achieve a better understanding of this art.
Several things jump out about Tick Tock Brazilian Jiu Jitsu:a) The instruction is great. Jacob McClintock wants you to succeed and if he teaches you a concept and youre not getting it, he will work with you until you do. Hes very encouraging.b) Everyone Ive met through Tick Tock Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is welcoming and, like Coach McClintock, wants you to succeed. Walking into a new place is not always easy but here, it is. Students with more experience are always willing to help answer questions and show me different adjustments that can make me better.c) Communication leading up to my first class was top notch. Im a little older and was nervous about starting BJJ so I had several questions. My emails were answered quickly and thoroughly. That might not sound like a huge deal but to me, it made the difference between coming in to try a class or not. Im glad I did.Top notch all around.
I began my Jiu Jitsu journey in February of 2018. Tick Tock BJJ offers a FREE trial class to anyone interested which I took advantage of. Upon arriving for my first class, I was greeted cordially by the Owner/Instructor, Jacob McClintock, who took the time to explain to me what to expect for my first time. The other students in the class were equally welcoming and I could sense a bond among them. I thoroughly enjoyed my first class and began attending on a regular basis.I highly recommend Tick Tock BJJ to current and potential BJJ practitioners. Professor McClintock is extremely knowledgeable and sincerely wants to help his students achieve their goals. He is committed to the pursuit of excellence and holds a high standard for his students.
Awesome instructor. Great classes. Highly recommend to anyone.
