My 6 year old son, has been attending classes here for 2 years. He is currently taking part in the online classes. During this time of quarantine they have provided my son and every student, with a virtual individual training plan, to keep them on track with their progression. They have also paired them up with an instructor that checks in on them weekly, and helps them to practice techniques they may be having troubles with. I would HIGHLY recommend this program for parents that would like to have some additional engagement for their child.
This has been an amazing place for my young son to learn discipline and how to work toward and achieve goals. All while having fun with his friends. Sensei Todd, Danyale, Tiffany, and the rest of the staff are amazing teachers!
My daughter (10 years old) has been attending since October of 2019. The difference I have seen in her in just 4 months has been amazing. She has gained more self confidence and self discipline than I expected in such a short time. The staff at JKI is absolutely amazing. They truly care about your child and help them to develop into the best version of themselves. My daughter loves attending class and loves her dojo family!!
My grandson started karate in August 2019. It is made such a change in him. He took karate due to being bullied in School. After homeschooling him for almost 2 years. He has returned to public school with the confidence that he needs to cope with situations. He absolutely loves it there. They have my highest respect at karate institute in North Charleston.
I really enjoyed seeing my little girls skills and dexterity improve in the time she was there. The only reason we left was our daughter begin having problems concentrating Im paying attention but I believe this was due to the fact that she had started kindergarten and was just worn out by the end of the day. The instructors are great and are very patient with the kids. After three months away my daughter is actually starting to say she wants to go back now.
My 7 year old son has been attending JK for about 2 years now, and he really loves learning karate and his confidence has improved since we first started. He has also attended the summer camp program, which he enjoyed. The staff is friendly and care about the kids. I would suggest JK to any parents looking to get their kid involved in karate.
Our son has been going to JKI for one year and the change in his behavior and focus is outstanding. Sensi Todd and the instructors run a well structured dojo, the kids love them all. The instruction is fun, educational and focused. The kids learn discipline, self control and excellent manners. Everyone is accountable to each other and everyone else.
Our daughter has strived these last two years at Japan Karate. I highly recommend karate for all age groups. The confidence in our daughter the excitement just continues to grow as she has learned and learning her own abilities. Best thing ever! She is developing long lasting friendships as well and able to identify negative behaviors she stays away from outside the dojo. Best ever!
The instruction is fun for the children they enjoy it tremendously. My son looks forward to every lesson. It has helped him with his confidence and he pays attention better and for longer. Its a very safe and friendly environment. Where he is learning to defend himself and respect others.
I studied martial arts for about 5 years when I was younger and received my blackbelt, so I knew what I wanted and didn’t want for my children when it comes to a dojo’s approach/philosophy. I’m very pleased with JKI, Sensei Todd, and the rest of the instructors. They’re incredibly welcoming yet stern when they need to be, offer great instruction, and are very accommodating. Our son has been attending now for about 7 months and he has benefited greatly from his time at JKI. From a holistic perspective he has grown tremendously; his self discipline, focus, and overall confidence have greatly increased in addition to the growth in physical athleticism that comes with karate. He loves it and has a great time there. JKI was a great choice for us and we’re very happy there.
Absolutely love this place. They are so friendly and understanding. The kids love them and learn so much. They are being taught skills but also having fun at the same time.
When we moved to the area, we were hoping to find some kind of activity for our children to meet new friends and try something fun. We have been beyond thrilled with our experience with JKI! The instructors are kind, patient, helpful, knowledgeable, and fun! They take lots of extra time with the kids. My daughter keeps talking about how she wants to become one of the instructors and how her karate classes are so much better than electronics! We highly recommend JKI and are very thankful to have found such a wonderful place for our children.
I can’t say enough good things about JKINC. My daughter was so shy and quiet. Karate has made her come out of her shell. The staff is amazing. They really do care about each child. My daughter just loves Sensei Todd and all of the instructors. I like having relationships with some of the other parents there and seeing their children grow and develop as well. It’s such a nice environment.
I started karate when I was 9. I made a lot of friends throughout the years, and they are probably the reason I come to my classes. Over the years, Ive developed a love/hate relationship for karate. I dread coming to evening classes sometimes, but I realized that when I do go to class even when I dont want to I feel a lot better after the class. I think everyone goes through a phase when they just dont like karate, but eventually they come out of it. When I came out of my phase of hating karate, I realized I shouldnt quit because I was so close to getting black belt. There really is no reason for me to quit. I enjoy going to my classes for the most part, but I really look forward to the classes I get to help with.
My son has been attending JKI for a year and a half now and Ive seen a tremendous growth in his confidence, focus and social skills. Great staff, great results!
My daughter loves JKI. Shes learning so much and has gone from a shy wallflower to confident young lady. We love the staff. They are always willing to help when asked and support everyone in the dojo.
My son attended that SummerCamp recently, it was an excellent experience. He was exposed to many new experiences. They made time for fun and still managed to include several learning experiences that my son enjoyed. Sensei Todd is excellent with the kids. If you need a camp for the summer this is the right camp for you. Your kids will thank you.
The staff at JKI are wonderful and very attentive. Sensei Todd is a wonderful instructor and holds his staff to a high level of excellence. My son has attended JKI since the age of 4. He is now 7. He loves it and wants to continue his training to reach black belt status!
So far so good we just started.
JKINC has been amazing! All the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and able to really connect with the kids on a personal level. I signed up my son toward the end of last year and he has made amazing strides, and I know this is because of his participation here. He looks forward to his classes every week, and constantly tells his friends how cool karate is. Academically, his test scores have improved drastically, he listens better, and volunteers more in class. He is also breaking out of his shell and making new friends when we go out. Thank you to Sensei Todd and all the Senpais and Kohais that have helped him achieve success. We are both excited to continue this journey with JKINC.
Chief Instructor Sensei Todd is incredibly knowledgeable, and along with his staff he provides quality instruction for all ages. Highly recommended for ALL ages.
As you are reading this, I want you to pay close attention to what i have to say about Japan Institute of NC. This will be my 26th year of teaching and training the martial arts as an adult, In my martial arts life journey I have come to know quite a few martial arts school owners, and none have impressed me more than Sensei Todd.He is down to earth, super friendly and caring to others. I met Todd through a Martial arts mentoring program called Team Parrella which is a bunch of like minded school owners from around the country and around the world, all trying to improve the service of there business, from providing superior customer service and top notch facilities, to always teaching the best martial arts there is.Todd is a great Martial Artist & Instructor but even more important he is an excellent person that wants to help and serve his community. If you are looking for excellent service, Instruction from top quality Instructors, then look no further Japan Karate Institute of North Charleston is the place.Did I mention they are also a Skillz school which teaches kids based on there stage of development within a 4 dimensional teaching platform that covers their Physical-Intellectual-Emotional-Social skills helping kids to be the top 5% of their peers. Skillz is an internationally recognized teaching platform taught worldwide.Make it a Great day!!!
We love JKI!!The JKI team has truly become a second family for us. Their Afterschool program is great, they get their homework done and participate in the karate class afterwards. Their summer camp is also fantastic. They are so active and go on all sorts of local field trips that, as a working family, we are not able to do all summer. My son loves it. Highly recommend.
My oldest daughter trained in the little ninjas program for 2 years with Sensei Todd. He is absolutely wonderful with the children.
My daughter attends the JKI of N. Charleston for the after-school program as an alternative to the after-school programs offered by her elementary school. Since joining the JKI after-school program, her grades have improved, her self-esteem has skyrocketed as well as her overall interest in physical activities. I have since joined myself in the adult night classes becoming more physically and mentally fit as well. If you are on the fence, check it out for yourself! Our family couldnt be happier or more grateful to Sensei Todd and the rest of the staff at JKI North Charleston!
We had our daughters 9th birthday party at the dojo and my daughter, her guests and us could not be happier! Senpai Nicole and Senpai Issy did an absolutely wonderful job with all of the children that were there! Thank you to everyone at JKI NC that helped make our daughters day so special!!!
I have been training at the North Charleston Dojo since I was six years old, I am now twenty one and I still enjoy every minute of my experience. Sensei Todd is so friendly and has truly become a second father to me. If you want to learn karate, get involved in our community and become apart of a massive second family definitely stop by and talk with Sensei Todd, Mrs. Ann or Senpai Eric, you wont be disappointed!
Great martial arts school, really have enjoyed my time there.
