Customer service is good but in terms of getting some custom work not so much. Was told the muffler i bought wouldnt fit on my car. So i went to a friend who is a welder and it fit just right.

My first call on ANY repair is Big Als. Even if they cant fix the problem, they will diagnose the problem and tell you where you CAN get it fixed. This kind of integrity just simply doesnt exist anymore. They are honest to a fault. They will always get my business

Went to big Als mufflers and brakes today to have some work checked on that initially was done by them always good as to what I thought the issue may have been I was given information as to what the problem really is I was also given estimates and pricing for all the work that needs to be done as always the staff is helpful and polite I would totally recommend this location to anyone

Great establishment. Great customer service and people you can trust with your car. I was passing through and I thought my brakes were messing up so I took my jeep to them. They told me they were fine and explained me why that sound was for. They also fixed my windshield water pump that wasn’t working. I’m glad I came to this place. I definitely recommend them!

This is the best place to take your car in Norfolk! The men there were super professional and diagnosed my problem right away with me when I dropped the car off (with no hidden costs). They took me into the garage and explained that I needed a new bearing and gave me an upfront price before I left. I dropped off late afternoon one day, and the part was picked up from the dealership and installed by 9AM the next morning. The final price was actually $10 less than what I was quoted. The shop may look tiny but it puts bigger mechanics to shame! I will continue to bring my little Chevy Spark here for all services and recommend to all my friends! About to take my partner’s truck in now!

Big Als took care of my truck after driving 1400 miles from Texas and almost losing a wheel because of a broken bering.As soon as I told them my problem, they scheduled me for the next day and took care of everything in a matter of 2-3 hours, calling to check on the price, approval and notifying me of anything going on.I absolutely recommend them!

Just got off the phone with one of the men that work there and he was very unprofessional and rude. I was trying to explain what I needed for my car and if they do what I needed and he completely cut me off every chance I tried to talk. It was very unprofessional!

The customer service was outstanding. The wait time to install an ac compressor was surprisingly quick. Prices were responsible and quoted before work was done. To my astonishment they actually do all types of car repairs even though you wouldnt assume this from the business name. Highly recommend these guys!

Do not be fooled by the outside! This place is awesome and deserves every star. I had an oil change and tire rotation done under and hour ( went in around 2pm on a Saturday) spent under $100 (Tire rotation is free with oil change). If I am in town again, I will be back.

I had a muffler job done. He did not tighten my heat shield and made a horrible noise when I got home. I’m just gonna take it to my mechanic, once you mess up, I’m not gonna take it back to the seen of the crime for further mistakes. Plus I paid for a good job, why would I take back to have something done free because of a previous mistake. I don’t trust it. Great attitude just didn’t check his work!

Scott is very professional and always helpful when I bring my car in for service. Today he saved me $400 and I greatly appreciate it. I live in the neighborhood and I’m so happy to have a nearby place that I can trust for car maintenance and repair!

Extremely friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. Their prices are reasonable (wont break the bank), coupled with fast and reliable service. In my opinion they definitely beat the competition. The atmosphere was inviting, easy going and trusting (as close as you can get for a repair shop) along with with a sense of comfortability. Hands down the best place to go. Very HONEST. I have gotten my brakes checked a few times because I am neurotic like that, and they have told me they are fine. They could easily scam me because I dont know much about cars, but they dont. Awesome prices on car fixes and good quality fixes. I am going to be devastated when I move because I am not sure I will find another place like this where I trust them completely and know I wont break the bank. 100% recommend!

The service at Big Al’s was great. I was in and out in a timely manner, Mr. Griffin was very professional, and he made everyone who came in the shop while I was there feel welcomed as well. The technician who worked on my car (Vinny) cleaned my engine thoroughly (as he was looking for a leak), showed and explained to me what was going on, and fixed the problem within 20 min. I will definitely come back, and refer other customers there based off of performance, and especially excellent customer service!

Was suggested to Als by our mechanic who we trust. When we picked up the vehicle it was in worse shape than when we brought it in. We wanted to allow the wrong to be set straight. We were told we dont work on Priuses after he had just worked on my Prius and gladly charged us $250. Then when asked to fix it SCOTT told us to go to the dealer.Customer service SUCKS and the attitude was even worse.Id steer real clear of BIG ALS

Excellent experience! Chris did the exhaust work on a difficult car (classic BMW e12) and used his years of experience and talent to put together a beautiful exhaust system that looked better than stock. Scott, the manager was very professional and kept me part of every decision that needed to be made which made the process very smooth. Can’t say enough how much I appreciated their time and the quality of work that was done!!!

I dropped my SUV off last week thinking I only had a serpentine belt needing to be replaced, got it done (definitely needed it), and then we figured out I had another issue. Not only did they work with me to get it scheduled, they were nice as hell the entire time. They made a major car repair so easy to take care of, and during this crazy time, it was nice to get things done fast. As long as Im in Norfolk, my default is going to be bringing my car to Big Als on Granby. I think I worked with Mike & Scott, these folks are great.

Went in to get Exhaust work on my car. Griff made my experience worth the wait while services were being done. He provided awesome customer service! Had a issue with one of my lift points under my car coming off and Griff made sure first thing on Monday morning to have the part ordered and back on my car before noon. Always love going to this locations to get my car maintenance! Griff was a great help with explaining what was going on with my car, as well as finding me a great deal! To make things better they work so quickly, I dropped my car off and within two and a half hours I had it right back, good as new. Highly recommend!

Wish I could give half a star.Needed an alignment after doing $1,000 worth of suspension repairs. Shop chose not to do the work due to the parts that were replaced but not to their satisfaction. Manager told me that their liability and reputation stops them from doing the work. Went back to get the vehicle and manager caught an attitude with me, heated words were exchanged and the immaturity came out of the manager. Unless you want your vehicle fixed with a side of attitude, go to this shop.

Honest and stand-up people. I brought my vehicle to get my brakes checked. The rear passenger wheel was making a cyclic grinding sound at slow speeds. I was convinced I would need new pads and rotors at the very least. He did an inspection and told me that it was just rust probably from the car sitting for a while through the rain. He said he checked the bearings also, which did not need to be replaced. There were so many opportunities for him to replace parts and charge me an exorbitant bill, but he didnt. I felt bad for wasting his time. So, I got an oil change to call it even. I will definitely be bringing my car back for future service.No appointments offered. First come. First serve.Looks like a shady part of town, but it was OK.

Ive only been to this establishment twice. On both occasions I havent had to wait more than 15 minutes to get attended. Bare in mind; these are walk ins. Short and to the point; and work well done.

I arrived at the shop about 9:30 a.m. on July 9th. I have been there previously. They gave me an action plan for getting it fixed. then when I arrived there the gentleman thats at the desk was very rude talking to one of the machanics very loud and I heard them talking about how what I needed to be done was a long job and they didnt want to do the job it.it was going to cost me $333 to get it done.after I had sat there for about two hours they chose to complain about what a big job that was so I will not be returning to this particular Big Als mufflers. Now mind you the work that needed to be done...WAS A PLAN THEY SET-UP.WAS trying to regular TRYING mechanic to get comfortable with and that could get to know my vehicle I was very disappointed and I was offended at the way they handled

Unable to do their job

So I called first to see if they could look at my car they said they could but couldn’t guarantee it would be fixed today. I leave my car there a few hours later they called and said they could fix it. It was a very responsible price. The guy at the register was very nice. They fixed my break line and I was able to pick it up before they closed. Very fast and friendly service at a reasonable price.

Very helpful and better prices than other shops. No questions asked when they had to replace at no charge a defective part they installed weeks earlier. Made no excuses, just replaced it.

Navigating these GREAT streets of Hampton Roads I hit something that fell off the truck in front of me. WRECKED MY BRAND NEW $800+ exhaust system! I was recommended to this place. I wont lie I was apprehensive about it but MIKE and his team PROVIDED EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! They saved me money, showed me the problem areas, SAVED ME MONEY, AND FIXED IT PROPERLY (did i mention SAVED. ME. MONEY??)!!! I didnt even have to wait too long which was great for me because I had just worked overnight and i was TIRED! The reception area was clean and comfy also which is a nice touch for this germ-a-phobe! I hope I wont need to see them soon but im glad I have some knowledgeable people to keep my baby on the road!!!!

This is my 2nd visit to Big Als. The service is OUTSTANDING!! I felt that Scott and Vinnie went above and beyond what they had to. I went in for a brake check and they found much more than I cared to hear about. They explained everything and the best course of action to take. I just wanted to say thank you and you have a customer for life.

Big Als always provides me with great service. The guys over there are friendly and trustworthy. Plus theyre always good about check things in my car so I can be aware of any potential issues, at they same time they dont force unnecessary services on me. I take my car here regularly for oil changes and have also had them do a power steering flush, all services always pan out well. They always have coupons too!

I called Big Al’s on Granby street and they were able to fit me in right away. I was already feeling slightly stressed from being unsure of what was wrong with my vehicle, so hearing a friendly voice answer the phone was extremely nice. I brought my car in, and they were able to quickly tell me what was going. I appreciate Scott and Vinny for being friendly, and Vinny for being incredibly knowledgeable with answering my questions and showing me what was going on with my vechicle. It’s nice being able to talk to someone who didn’t give me a runaround and knows what they’re talking about. They were very straightforward, and it was a pleasant experience versus experiences I have had in the past at other places. I would recommend them to anyone. I am very pleased with their customer service and work.

As a disclaimer; I never review people online, but was so pleased with the work done I decided it was well earned. Joe was the mechanic who worked on my exhaust and I am nothing short of thrilled with the quality of work and attention to detail that Joe provided to my baby. The cuts, welding, and placement of the pipes and mufflers was exactly what I was looking for. In addition, the management was friendly, honest, upfront, and very competitively and fairly priced. As a customer, I felt like my satisfaction was their number one concern. I will certainly come back to Big Als Mufflers and Brakes next time I decide to do work on my vehicle.

I have been to two different locations, and both times i have been pleasantly surprised! Its always one thing or another that puts them over the top in my book. they have fast service, they are very friendly, they will explain things to you like they should..not like some places that think just because you are a women you are not able to understand, and their prices are good. i have only went for muffler work, but with how they are with me and my car i think i will start going there for all that i can. im excited i found a place i feel deserves my business instead of me settling for something less some place else.

Omg! I was ripped off by the manager scott, I spend 641 yesterday, he charge me for a part I already had and scott never adjusted the total. I didnt realized it until later that night, I call to scott today and he giving me excuse that do not make any sense, I use to think that big als was an awesome and trustworthy company NOT anymore!! Replaced exhaust gasket and fixed exhaust leaks all for $50. Didnt try to sell me anything extra. Let me check the work done with my own eyes. Highly recommend.

Ive had great experiences with Big Als for 3years, they recently saved me from having unnecessary work done recommended by another shop. They make me feel at home.

Your store on Military highway is very unprofessional. I took a bearing to be pressed in on friday and it took all day. Got it back and they had pressed it in wrong. Took it back today (Monday) at 8 am now it is 10:30. still not done. The person working there now is Sean. He charged me 50.00 and said it was supposed to be a hundred. I have been doing business with them for 4 years and paid 25.00 to have my bearings put in and Sean said that that was not the price. He said that whoever did this previously was taking the money and pocketing it. He has an opinion about everything. He is not helpful nor is he very nice. I am Talented Automotive and I will be using Barry Lee Tires to press my bearings.

Came here in need of an oil change and they helped me out big time! When VW dealer (checkered flag) tried to rip me off on fixing hand-brake issue, Big Als on Granby Street came to my rescue. Excellent manager in J.D., he explained the repair process thoroughly, and completed the job on time as promised, all for way less than what the dealer was quoting. Even fixed taillights on the same VW for no extra charge. Besides being a good manager, J.D. is also a great person to talk to. I will definitely bring any future repair work to this location. This has for many years been a staple for affordable muffler and brake service. If you lived in the Park Place, Villa Heights, Lamberts Point, Larchmont community, this place meant friendly, honest, and reasonably priced help was just around the corner.But like many businesses today its bucks over people at any cost. My recent experience left a feeling of being ripped off with a smile; an over rated quote for a basic brake job, and a warranty that was designed never to honored due to technicality.Id rather they did just mufflers and brakes again and offered the fairest straight forward price rather than shoot a lot of bull trying shake you down for every nickel and dime you got.

Went in to have them look at my loud exhaust, and they said i need a manifold and a catalytic converter and quoted me at $900. i said okay and got a second opinion. the second person told me its a $30 part... big difference huh? go somewhere else or these guys will try to hustle you. if I fell for their trickery, i would be out $900 and id still have a loud exhaust. thieves..

This place is terrible. They act like they know what they are doing but boy thats a joke!They replaced a flex pipe for me and were too lazy to weld all the way around the pipe. So they filled the top with exhaust putty. So it literally stopped leaking for a day. Pure laziness. And to top that off, what they did weld, looks like a 5 year old did it. Had to re-do myself since they dont stand by their work.Very disappointing and sloppy!!Scott-

Never had a problem here until they replaced my muffler. They called me and said it was ready to be picked up so I went to pick up my vehicle. I get in, start the engine and hear a loud rattle come from underneath the car. I go back inside and ask the gentleman at the front desk if there was a reason why it was doing that. They take it back in to look at it and he tells me they installed it wrong so I waited there until it was fixed. 4 months later the rattle comes back and now I have to pay to have it replaced again.

Way over priced! They quoted me $589.00 for a master cylinder change and brake flush, I did it for $98.00 myself and I know alot is labor but jeeez it was super easy. The only hard part was bleeding the brakes and needing help but hey I have a wife that I dont have to pay $500.00 for labor! Shammmmmmmmeeeee For ShaaaaammmmmmmmmmmeeeI got a reply from your company in response to my review, I cant figure out how to reply. I wouldnt make up random numbers for quotes that are exactly accurate to what i was told and this was a while back and I still remember it, the vehicle was a 97 nissan maxima. They looked at it, gave me a quote. Im not sure how i would be in a database if no services were done.
