This place changes you in the best way possible. The staff provides a second family and all are accepting. They work with you and make you into the best person you can be. Nothing but all love to every single staff member that got me through the difficult process. I highly recommend this program.
Graduated in 1997. Thank you Teen Challenge! This changed my life forever. Sobriety is the way of life.
Highly recommend MATC for their ability to work with teen boys who need a breakthrough, especially when the family needs an extra hand to deal with destructive behaviors. The staff at Teen Challenge is exceptionally qualified to love your child back to life, even in the darkest of circumstances. Residential care is a big step for any family but Mid-Atlantic Teen Challenge is well worth the time and cost for such a high level of care.
Mid-Atlantic Teen Challenge helped heal my family. My son was angry and withdrawn. We were at a loss as to how to fix him and reached out in desperation to this ministry. Slowly, our family healed. The staff at MATC has become like family to us. Now our son is interning there and giving back to other boys.
They are not legit and the Teen Challenge program has a history of severe abuse of their students. The curriculum they use to offer a fine education is mediocre and filled with misinformation and bigotry. The majority of graduates who use Accelerated Christian Education will not be accepted into college. TC is abusive, expensive, and misleading. Protect your teen, please do not send them here!
MATC is more than a school; it is truly a ministry. They offer a safe, kind and loving environment that families need in order to overcome and re-build. Making the decision to send your child away to school is not an easy choice. In fact, it is probably the most difficult decision we have ever had to make. The staff at MATC was overwhelmingly helpful at guiding us through the process. They simply loved our son and provided a wonderful, Christian environment that allowed us to take a step back from parenting and to grow spiritually ourselves. Our family is eternally grateful for the love, guidance and academic setting that they provided for our son. He has transitioned from being a distraught, angry teenager to a loving, reliable young adult who is proud to share his testimony. The staff will forever be part of our family.
You have better options out there. Please keep looking.
This program was a God-send to my family when no other program had worked. My son is a better person and a better citizen because of Teen Challenge. I highly recommend it!
The MATC staff is exceptional, teaching by example. They accept each young man where he is and assist in his healing, giving him the tools necessary to develop life-changing habits. When I left my grandson in their care, he was a confused, defiant, angry 16-year-old who did not respect rules or authority figures. Fifteen months later, he is a changed person having developed spiritually, emotionally, and educationally, even graduating high school during his stay. The MATC process and staff changes lives. I thank God that our search for help led us to them!
I attended here in august 2014. Wasnt to horrible. i was here for only 11 days. At the time i had a ton of anxiety and other health problems. thinking back it wasnt so horrible. Basic training in the army was a lot worse. In the end i reconized the seriousness in how my mother really thought of me. I dont think an entire year is healthy for teens. the decievement for teens into tricking them to come here is discouraging. All in all i think it was a healthy experiance it prepared me for the army. My reason for 3 stars is the lack of doors in the bathrooms i think thats innapropiate and also putting 4+ kids in a regular child sized bedroom is very Extreme we had zero personal space. i dont blame then due to lack of space at the facility but yeah.
Our son is graduating from Mid Atlantic Teen Challenge in 2 days, after a 14 month stay at this incredible program. We have had an excellent experience with the entire staff both at the center itself and the administrative staff and director. The hardest thing to do is to be the one to place your child in a place away from home and away from family in hopes that a new pattern of behavior will emerge and take root. MATC uses boundaries, rules and freedom from distractions of social media etc to help kids with life controlling issues learn how to cope with the negativity and rejection of the world, that can be overwhelming for teens to deal with. The boys also attend school while residing at the center. At MATC, the students learn how to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and if they choose they are encouraged to allow the Holy Spirit to transform them into strong, responsible, confident and purpose driven young men. They learn how to have healthy relationships and how to communicate. Change is always hard and recovery is no different. We had so much support and encouragement from all of the staff whenever we needed it, which was a LOT! The staff at MATC are dedicated to their ministry and it SHOWS. It definitely is a safe place that we could trust our child with. If you have a loved one that is struggling with rebellion and or any other self destructive behavior, we highly recommend Mid Atlantic Teen Challenge as a sanctuary for your child while you work on the whole family. In my whole life, I have never experienced a better example of the unconditional love of Jesus Christ, as my family and I have experience in the last 14 mos of our association with Teen Challenge. We dropped off a desperate, angry, hurting teenager and are bringing home a clean and sober, mature, caring, selfless young man, who has not only achieved success in the program but skipped ahead one year in school. Our son has been taught how to be the leader that he was created to be. We will forever be grateful to our beloved Mid Atlantic Teen Challenge family for saving our child and saving our family!!
My son asked to attend TC. He was struggling with certain issues. The staff showed unconditional love and dedication. I highly recommend them
I am a former student at Teen Challenge and i personally had a great experience. It was my seventh residential program but the first one that actually worked. Going into teen challenge, i was a rebellious, drug addicted teen who was near dropping out of high school. I left the program with a new heart in christ, a high school diploma, an acceptance to Regent University, and a renewed mind. I am still at Regent working on a degree in Economica.
My son had a minor incident in Jr.high. Someone gave him LSD, he told a friend, then he got caught. I checked on and asked for courts to allow him to go here at TC as a alternative to maybe taking the chance he would be found guilty and incarcerated in a juvenile facility. They did. He was 15,and it was suppose to be a 14mo.program, but he stayed 2yrs. Although it was very hard as a single Mom,living 3.5hrs.away, I made the trip every other Sat. Sometimes getting a room and staying over to visit again on Sun.before heading home. And many times I came more than 2x a month b/c of special events. Money was very tight, it was a strain to take care of his expenses at TC, as well as bills and supporting my self and 2 other kids at home. But God provided and met our needs. When Id think I cant make a payment or didnt have the gas money for the trip, He always came through. As hard as it was, Im thankful that my son went to TC. Tho he was gone so long, we nipped the problem in the bud. It may have saved him from getting into a lifetime drug addiction, overdosing or a career criminal. God only knows. He went in a rebellious boy who always had trouble in school. But came out a respectful christian young man, that was excelling in his school work. He learned responsibility when right away he learned to do his own laundry, cook, clean, and take a 5 min.shower and get ready for church real quik. He had a good re pore with most all the counselors and was well liked by everyone. He didnt always stay on the narrow path. But he had good self esteem and a drive to succeed. He came home, graduated from High School, got a BA, and finished grad school this past May. Im very proud of him and grateful for what Teen Challenge taught him.
I have been to three of the four adolescent Teen Challenges in the USA,this one is by far the best.
