When I moved to the Newport News area I began my search for a gym that would continue to foster growth toward my goals and upheld my standards. American Iron not only exceeds these basic gym standards (clean equipment, professional, variety of quality equipment, positive environment, etc.), but has become a place I feel at home. From the moment you step in the door you become part of a family of driven people, who are ALWAYS willing to lend you a hand. The owner, Rex, goes above and beyond for each and every member and shows his dedication to the American Iron family without fail. I have only positive things to say about this gym and couldn’t be happier with my time spent here! Highly recommend checking them out :)

Love this place its open 24hrs gives a monthly discount to military and has free weights as well as machines 4.5 out of 5 oh and its also encouraged to grunt and make noise and you are able to work out with your shirt off if you want see yall around #bodybuild #hardwork

Had a great experience just getting signed up. The owner was able to squeeze me in to sign up on a Sunday, which was thoroughly appreciated. The feel of the gym is no frills, old school body building and power lifting. Equipment selection is suited to that end as well with tons of specialty bars and some machines that are rarely seen in commercial gyms. Probably not everyones cup of tea, but perfect for people interested in the smaller gym vibe with a no bs, lift these damn weights kinda feel.

Love this place. Dropped in for a workout - its definitely an old school mens gym. Nothing polished about it, but you can lift without a shirt, make noise, and do your thing without any drama.

I spend about 60% of my life in gyms because I operate an on-site gym upholstery business. My apprentice and I were called out to this gym by the new owner to reupholster the gym equipment. I spent about 7 hours in the gym working. I’ve never been in a gym quite as unique and creative as this one. There are a lot of cool programs going on there besides just using the space to “work out.” All the patrons - both male and female - were extremely friendly and I could tell the new owner takes pride in the relationships and community he’s building. You could tell from the vibe that everyone there is really dedicated to their health and working toward their goals. No pretensions or attitude. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my gym. (My apprentice is female and felt extremely comfortable working in the environment which isn’t always the case).

Just recently moved to Newport News and of course was looking for a good quality gym. I looked up a few gyms but this style gym caught my eye Old School Iron!💪👌 The owner Rex is one coo down to earth man, respectful, professional. Martin also helps run the gym is just the same these guys makes this place fun its 24hrs and membership price is good. Just all around good environment great quality gym Im glad I found this place.

This is the best gym I’ve ever been apart of. The environment is an experience that cannot be replicated. I came in as a newbie lifter and have seen extreme results from the positive and hard working community that surrounded me at American Iron. Martin is excellent and is always willing to lend advice when it comes to bodybuilding. Rex does an excellent job of maintaining a gym that calls you back everyday. If you want to improve yourself, whether that be cardio, body building, or powerlifting, THIS IS THE PLACE. American iron for life!

When first deciding to join American Iron, I was hesitant. I wasn’t sure if it had the equipment I wanted or felt like a welcoming environment. Since joining, I have been pleasantly proven wrong about so many different things. This gym is incredible. The gym may be smaller than most, but it has more than enough equipment for all fitness goals whether it be cardio, bodybuilding, powerlifting or anything else. While the equipment is good, the environment is second to none. I’ve never worked out in a gym that has motivated me so fully to improve. The rest of the members are friendly and welcoming. Employee, Martin, is always able to motivate me to have a good lift or make me laugh if needed. The owner, Rex, is constantly looking for ways to improve the gym and get to know each member. Overall, I can’t imagine working out at any other gym. American Iron is the best!

I Been going to this Gym for an month now and it’s way better than my previous gym . It’s like a family there and nobody is there to judge. The front desk guy is cool and the owner himself is well - manner and be in there grinding too . I like it’s very diverse there (all sizes and shapes ) . Overall the best gym I been too frr

Solid gym only true 24/7 365 gym in Newport News. I work in the bar industry so my hours are all over the place and this gym allows me to catch a workout anytime. Everything you could possibly want to get a pump this gym has! Also new ownership is way better!

Great place to train and better yourself! While the gym maintains that awesome “grind it out” culture, the one thing that makes this place truly special is the people. First time walking in, and you will feel like you have been there for years.

American Iron is a locally owned gym that treats you like family. Great place to train and is open 24/7! The new owner truly cares about everyone that steps foot in the gym and has done a great job on expanding and creating a better atmosphere for his members. Very clean and plenty of parking!

When you inquire about going they email you asap. The place is by far the coolest thing ever in Newport news. They have all of the necessities you need to get Swole. My only problem is I didnt become a member as soon as I walked in because I go to onelife and idk if onelife will let me go. Cause onelife isnt for me. This gym has the motivation, change and freedom Ive been craving for the past 8 months Ive life in newport news. OPEN 24 hours 7 days a week! Even on holidays. I just think that is a beautiful thing. Great gym, all free weights, no machines. There is cardio equipment here. The owner is very outgoing and willing to help. They are expanding the gym currently, about doubling the amount of space. Its nice to see there are still real gyms out there that dont cater to just one group of people, and where its locally owned and not a corporate chain. I really hope America. Barbell club thrives and continues to stick around.

Great environment, it’s just recently expanded and I’ve been going to this gym for 3 years now. Warehouse feel too it and not close to feeling like you’re in a commercial environment. Worth taking the time to stop by and it’s 24/7 can’t beat it.

When my husband and I joined this place was perfect for us! Kenny at the front desk has always been more than helpful. After months thought the gym has declined drastically. Equipment is breaking and some doesnt work at all. The owner has made ZERO efforts to fix or replace anything. He just doesnt seem to care about his establishment. Such a sad loss. Was great once but no longer.

Was EXTREMELY excited when I first heard rumors of a new gym opening up in the area. After going to the Grand Opening Night and meeting Dale and Jake I was hooked and signed up, a decision I have YET to regret!! I have been in to train just about every day since opening and my workouts have gone up to a whole other level!! The atmosphere in the gym and the other members make you want to get better. I can go in and lift in the way I see fit to, without the rules and restrictions of other gyms. And of course I have access to it 24 HOURS A DAY. If you want a stripped down, back to the basics of lifting REAL IRON then THIS is the place for you!!!

By far the best gym I have ever been too. Ive been to multiple gyms in Virginia and overseas and you will not find the same atmosphere anywhere else. The people and especially Dale (owner) will help you with anything you need. This gym has pushed me to new PRs and the motivation the people here provide is unlike anything else. 5 out of 5.

Poor customer service. Tried calling on several occasions. It no one ever seemed to answer. This used to be a decent place. Merchandise was good. Then it seemed like the merch was outsourced and it isn’t even branded the last time I got something.

The absolute worst customer service I have ever been associated with. I took a class for the Fire Department there back in April. Was told I could pay $20 for a partial month membership and cancel at the end of my 2 week class. I cancelled upon leaving and have been charged every month since. They have been unresponsive to any emails or phone calls despite many times reaching out. I am ashamed to have reached out to as they were recommended by a friend. They seemed more than willing to help out a member of Public Service however they have since done nothing but take advantage of me.

Are you getting tired of the spa music that your local gym plays that ultimately causes an immediate lethargic affect resulting in total motivational shut down? If you are a IRON ADDICT you need to get to this gym. They are great guys and provide a great atmosphere for iron heads to go and lift heavy with out restrictions. Definitely a place to belong to.

Awesome gym. It is very traditional and is open 24 hours! The music playlist is awesome and the staff is very nice and supportive. Everyone here compliments and helps each other achieve their goals. They keep powerlifting records on the board to keep competition interesting! We needed a gym like this on this side of the water that accepts chalk!

Worst gym in 757. The owner Jake I believe his name is,is a complete tool. Has zero people skills. Plus the vibe is very cooperate now. The owner cares more about flirting with women and talking about steroids then helping customers.

Gym has everything you need in a location that has been begging for some kind of gym in it for years. Most gyms tend to be near the City Center area while American Iron stayed true to its local roots and opened locally. Has all the free weights you need and the owners Dale and Jake are continuously taking suggestions on what to improve.

Great gym! I was visiting Virginia from the Boston area and staying in Newport News for a few days. As a powerlifter, it can be hard to find a gym with a squat rack, good stiff bars, deadlift platform, and a place to benchpress where the pick height is adjustable- American Iron Barbell suited all my needs for a great workout. The owner and staff were very friendly! The drop in price is very reasonable compared to most gyms Ive encountered while traveling. The hours are extensive, being open 7 days a week and 24 hours for members. Best of all the atmosphere encourages heavy lifting and chalk!! Ill certainly be back the next time Im in Newport News.

This gym Is by far the best around for true gains...the owners who you can tell are truly about fitness are always willing to help help with any questions you may have to help you get where you want to be physically...I personally left onelife fitness to come to American barbell club and I have zero regrets...Im truly glad I ditched the corporate hype gyms and made a local owned gym my new workout home...so if you want results give this gym a chance you wont be disappointed...
