After hitting a wall of frustration while trying to learn how to cast a fly rod, a friend told me to reach out to Chris for some casting pointers. We met at a soccer field where he walked me through tying some basic knots as well as how to cast. It didnt stop there, to make the experience better, we headed out into the river on his well equipped and very spacious boat for a couple of hours to practice on the water. Chris is very knowledgeable about fly fishing as well as light tackle striped bass fishing. He stayed patient with me and even though we didnt catch a fish, I learned A LOT. I would definitely book again and recommend Tide Charters 110% to anyone who wants to get out on the river and catch fish!

I had a chance to go out with Chris this past season. It was fantastic. He gave me a good grounding in fly casting on land, then we headed out on the boat. Before leaving he gave a brief but thorough safety spiel, which made me feel he was truly a prepared professional. We spent several hours on a lovely day casting and chit chatting. Was able to go out with Captain Christopher last summer and had a blast. The captain has an extensive knowledge and history with the area and the passion he feels for the place definitely comes through. The boat is a perfect fishing platform that I found to be roomy, comfortable and sturdy. I went to learn specifically about Striped Bass fishing and found Christopher to be knowledgeable, a great teacher and quite the story teller. His connection to the place and the resource is contagious. Cant wait to go again!

Christopher introduced me to fishing - and it is clear from reading the other reviews that he is the perfect captain for experienced fishermen and novices alike! In addition to a wealth of knowledge about fish and fishing, he is also deeply versed in the natural ecology of the area. For me this really adds to the experience, as it lends to the sense of place I feel when out on the boat with him. Captain Christopher provides a safe and rewarding fishing experience for everyone from novice to experienced fishermen. Under Christophers tutelage, in just a short few hours, I learned the basics of fly fishing and caught my first keeper on the Merrimack River. It was a really an amazing experience and a beautiful day on the water. Highly recommended.

AWESOME GUIDE! I’ve never known a captain that knows EVERY little slough or drainage on Joppa Flats the way Capt. Chris knows them! He knows where to find fish when no one else can; especially in the relatively shallow water of Joppa Flats, any fish finder or side-scan is going to be of little help. You need local knowledge, and he’s clearly got it! When he says, “try the left side,” and you’re literally casting or stripping ONLY a boat’s width (~4ft) from where you were last casting or stripping a fly, and get slammed by 30 & 40lbs fish amongst all the schoolies you’ve been catching, you know Capt. Chris knows his stuff. It’s all about matching what your doing to what the fish are doing, and he does it better than anyone I’ve ever seen! Definitely recommend this guy, whether it’s the first time you’ve EVER touched a fishing rod, never fly fished before and want to give it a try and learn or if you were Lefty Kreh and have fly rods and flies named after you. Already booked 3 trips with Chris this year!
