Amazing experience. After I had my son over a month ago, I ended up back in the hospital off and on for a month due to severe preeclampsia complications. I met with so many lactation consultants/ feeding experts who really couldn’t help me. I met with Sharon the lactation consultant twice. She was amazing. She really helped me and gave confidence I needed to go back to my original plan of exclusively breast feeding. I no longer have to cry feeling I failed my baby because I been unable to figure it out. She also gave me so many helpful resources. God sent for moms in the community.
I’ve been trying to call to make an appointment for over a week now. I’m calling every day and nobody is picking up the phone and I can’t leave a message because the voicemail box is full. I just gave birth two weeks ago and I need an appointment and I don’t know what to do at this point. I can’t just show up without an appointment
I come here to get my son his shots since our family doctor can’t do it due to it not being an actual pediatrician on site at their practice. That was no problem because I love my family doctor but coming here is such a hassle, to get an appointment you literally have to keep calling and harassing their phone lines, mailbox is alway full so leaving a voiceMessage is impossible, then once you get an appointment time, please do not expect to be seen at that time. I had an appointment today at 130 for shots, I get there at 115 staff is not back from lunch to even check me in yet, then I have to wait longer only for that department supervisor to come out have me fill out a questionnaire form and tell me that pretty much my concerns about waiting for extended amount of times past my appointment time is not okay. She was very dismissive and was like well i don’t know what to tell you. How do you justify giving someone an 130 time slot to tell them ooo well you have to wait at least till 2 to maybe get seen if not longer. Completely unacceptable!! This is every time since my son has been three months coming here, at this point I’m annoyed and frustrated. Definitely have to find somewhere else to take him because this is not it.
Great help with breastfeeding. Sharon was very informative and resourceful.
You barely will have someone answer the phone here to schedule an appointment you just can’t walk in since Covid hitI’ve been calling for two weeks now and no answer and the voicemail box is full RIDICULOUS
Terrible service they answer calls as if their tongue weighs in a way that doesnt make you want to call back I recommend you go to Lafayette it is very good and they attend well
Great people and great service! During Covid 19 I pushed off WIC and their resources to avoid the stress but little did I know benefits were just a phone call away! They had a great system and they sent me everything through the mail. I was extremely pleased with the lactation consultants, Sharon and her team. As soon as I signed up for WIC, she contacted me the first day and helped me THROUGH THE PHONE to get my baby to latch on and she taught me a lot of techniques. Thank you WIC and thank you Sharon!!
The wic office is getto they are very unprofessional VERY UNPROFESSIONAL CAN’T get through to no one on the phone they all talk no work is getting done I believe they do not even deserve one star
Great people and great service.I am a first time mother and they have been very helpful from getting me enrolled in wic during the pandemic and also having breastfeeding zoom classes on Mondays ., I’m truly great full have met such dedicated and hard working people. Renee and Sharon are the absolute best . I would recommend this facility to anyone who needs a good support system especially when it comes to breastfeeding.
They are so helpful! I came in 15 minutes before closing time desperate for help with breastfeeding my 5 day old baby. Despite the time Sharon, Jennifer and Rene were so kind as to help me/ train me how to breastfeed my baby boy.. they were so helpful and patient! Definitely a great experience!
I went to my first wic appointment a couple of days ago not really knowing what to expect. 24, new mom. I walked out of that office thinking wow that place is awesome. First of all, I had no idea they had their own lactation consultant! Her name is Sharon and she’s amazing! Literally an angel at what she does. I’ve been breast feeding but I had issues with my baby’s latch so I decided I didn’t want to feed him off of my breast anymore and i would just pump. I hated pumping and I hated feeling like my nipple was being chewed off. I left her office completely happy and ready to practice breastfeeding again. I was so proud of my baby for latching properly, and now we help each other out, I feed him and my breasts don’t become painfully engorged until I have to unwillingly pump again. Once you get past the long waiting and all of the people, the actual staff members are great! Tons of information, it’s so nice that people are willing to help mothers and children in the way they do. Thank you for helping me feel closer and bond with my baby and thank you for helping us meet our nutritional needs.
I love coming here! It may be a bit of a wait sometimes but the staff is beyond friendly and helpful. The support you get as a breastfeeding mom is incredible! You can come in for 1 on 1 appointments with one of the lactation consultants or join a monthly breastfeeding meeting which are always fun and educational.
I went in really wanting help because I didn’t think I was breastfeeding effectively. I just had my second boy and he was getting super fussy when it was time to feed. Until I met Lisa. She help me feel sooo very comfortable with breastfeeding at a time where I was googling the most healthiest organic formula for my baby because I was ready to give up! She even gave me her number and said I could call/text anytime. She helps me through my breastfeeding experience and I’m so proud to say I’m still exclusively breastfeeding all because of her help! Thanks Lisa. You’re amazing!
The breastfeeding consultant Lisa was so knowledgeable and helped me answer any questions or doubts I had. She was not only professional but very warm and friendly. I always look forward to talking with her!
They makes me a phone appointment. Never calls . I calls and they put me on hold and never come back to the phone . I continues to call and yet have no response from them.
As a new mother I didnt know what life had in store for me I knew that I wanted to breastfeed my baby he was born at 38weeks I thought it was going to be easy to breastfeed but I was wrong. They were multiple people trying to help me get him to latch on in the hospital but nothing and on a rainy Tuesday Sharon from my wic center came into my room after I finished pumping and asked why I wasnt breastfeeding and I told I couldnt get my son to latch on properly and she stayed with me until he got to latch on and I was able to do it on my own and I was engorged with breastmilk and she helped relieve the pain. I am so grateful that she came into my room that night because if she didnt I dont think I would ever get my son to latch and would have to bottle feed him. She is the breastfeeding queen and whisperer and I love her and couldnt ask for anyone else to help me with this journey I would never forget her, she is such a special woman and I dont think saying thank you would ever be enough
Lisa is amazing she inspired me to breastfeed not just me but family and friends
This office is the best one to go to for all your wic needs I had alot of help in an outside the office you ever need help with anything talk to Lisa She is literally the best person to deal with and you will never be overlooked I love her .
SHARON ! Sharon is an amazing breast feeding consultant. I had such life changing and uplifting experience while being there. She helped me with my baby’s latch after being told by several consultants I was unable to breastfeed unless I used a nipple shield because it seemed my baby was used to a bottle.I was originally going to the Elizabeth wic office where I expressed my eagerness to breastfeed my child. I asked about having one on one meeting with a lactation consultant and I was told there wasn’t any possibility for that. I was informed if I wanted to see a consultant I would have to join their support group which is held twice a month, not to mention I had just missed that opportunity because they had just held their last one the day prior. I left very disappointed and a little heart broken I may add because that meant I had to wait another month and my milk supply was decreasing due to my baby not nursing. I learned about Sharon through a friend who had similar issues when her son was born. She told me about the amazing Sharon. I was upset I had to go to the Newark wic because it’s out of my way and it’s a shame I have to go to another town in order to get the help I need. You would think Wic would want to encourage more breastfeeding than giving out checks to get formula but that didn’t seem to be the case at the Elizabeth Wic office. I was desperate in getting the show on the road, so I switched offices.I went in and met Sharon. Sharon encouraged me to try latching my baby in the office and with her assistance, he latched beautifully. She was surprised herself at how well my baby latched considering the story I told her of my prior experiences. She also gave me a portable manual breast pump which I can take on the go; I was not offered this at the Elizabeth Wic. I was never asked if I had a breast pump or if I needed help with breastfeeding even though I expressed how much I wanted to do so. Sharon also called me to follow up and see how breast feeding was going with my little one and let me know I can call her for anything else I may need along the way. Sharon is the true definition of a great breastfeeding consultant. The only downside to the Newark Wic office is there is no parking lot and you have to find parking on the street. It’s located near a school making it almost impossible to find parking nearby.
Terrible there is literally no worse place to go. They lose paperwork and refuse to reimburse you if that paperwork cost money to have done. A simple 1-2 hours process takes over 5+ hours. More often then not the employees just walk away and leave people waiting endlessly. All three times Ive been here the entire office left for lunch break and kept over 50+ people including infants waiting without any information for over an hour.
Great service and great people.
They are very supportive people especially to breastfeeding mothers.
This is the worst wic office there is..... constantly slow and always with excuses of only 2 dieticians being there.... never have they once showed compassion for the people that wait patiently there to recertify or get their checks. Always a hassle or problem...some of the workers are very unprofessional.... dont and i mean dont open your mouth to voice your frustrations with them unless you want security called...... the workers there especially the ladies are quick to call and lie to security to tell them your are disrespectful and a problem.... all theyre there for is to collect a check and benefits.... great choice newark nj for choosing such uncaring and unprofessional workers from your dieticians to staff..... this office should be ashamed of themselves..........................
Its so sad that mothers with there children come here to get help and in need to assistance and the only thing you get harassment and people very unprofessional that dont care for their jobs... you call the office and no one picks up where they leave you on hold for more than 20 minutes or they say leave a message and then never answer the messages in the morning they just dont care about you because they think youre a minority and thats so sad.... You make appointment for norhing
Wic caters to breastfeeding moms ... very encouraging to push on.
The wic office is okay overall but it’s getting into contact with them is the problem they never answer the phone and you finally get a hold of them they give you attitude .
I love the support and help they give
They stressed me a lot
They never answer the phone / and the voice message is from the morning..
Everyone talks bad about going to thus office but the ladies that work here are great help from the moment you walk in to when you walk out!
They give me 9 cans of feeding for 6 months
THEY give less as possible.
